With Bunneary’s pose, and the lower half being so fluffy, I imagine it evolving into a ballerina-esque rabbit, where the lower half becomes like a fluffy tutu
The problem with Jacobs concept for Klefki, aside from the fact that he didnt seem to understand it already does steal keys, is that if you make any fairy type to nefarious, it just becomes dark type. The intention isnt that hes a little stinker taking your shit, its a mystical creature that wisk away your keys, which is why it holds onto a small collection of keys its attatched to as opposed to hording them.
@@QuotePilgrim Yeah, she does the sillhouette exactly. It's still a pretty good bit but it does make me wonder how they set that up. If Spheal was on another layer, then we'd see it in the capture too, right? Did they tape a Spheal on the tablet??
@@SuperstrenghtPorygon It doesn't look like the other members were aware of Julia's bit. I honestly believe she just practiced drawing Spheal's silhouette for the bit. She is a great artist, I'm sure she could pull that off despite being known for not being able to remember what characters look like lol. EDIT: Also, there's the possibility she pulled up a reference on the spot, making sure the others couldn't see it. If you look closely you'll notice that the silhouette isn't quite an exact match.
Fun fact, the Portuguese Man O' War isn't a jellyfish, but a type of creature called a siphonophopre! Siphonophores are basically colonies of micro-organisms making up one singular creature, each micro-organism having their own specific function! The weird fin on the Man O' War's back actually functions like a sail, catching the wind while it floats on the ocean surface, and the transparent part connected to the sail helps it float Below the water, it uses it's tentacles to attract, trap, and consume prey. The tentacles are about 30ft on average but can reach up to 100ft long! And yes, their sting is one of the most painful, but it's rarely deadly, and a decent amount of people stung by them are stung after they wash up on shore. I'm a big marine bio fan, so I just wanted to take the opportunity to talk about them since I really like siphonophores :3 Fun fact, if siphonophores were singular organisms instead of several micro-organisms, they'd easily be the longest creatures ever discovered
Yes!!! Found the Marine biologist! If anyone's interested and wants to learn more, The Octopus Lady here on TH-cam has a great video where they drive her up the wall.
So julia started making spheal, karina made raboot and jacob messed up the lore of klefki... YEAH that fits the drawfee format of Nathan being the pokemon guy lmao
24:22 Something I find rather interesting is that a lot of the early anthro and "fem-coded" Pokemon design have a 1F:1M ratio whilst a lot of the later anthro and "fem-coded" designs actually have a 1F:7M ratio, which i find rather funny as it kinda suggests that Gamefreak began catching on to the fact that people were awooga-ing over certain Pokemon designs and their only solution to it was to just make the new anthro and "fem-coded" designs mostly male as if that alone was somehow going to stop people from turning into Looney Toon Wolf in Suit
Wishiwashi definitely has X eyes. It's part of the fish skeleton design. Like, it might be an X because it's watery, but it's definitely drawn with an X. Look at only the white bits of the fish. That's a cartoon skeleton fish. It's defs on purpose.
Actually Klefki's original name is already referencing that it's a kleptomaniac, it canonically already steals keys all the time Jacob you look really foolish rn
That's what I was thinking too! He said maybe it steals keys, and I was like ... doesn't it already do that ??? Isn't that like the entire original concept, that it steals keys to use to hide among household objects like weird camouflage, like those crabs that put stuff on their backs to blend in, but it's just freaking keys, I guess you wouldn't know that unless you listened to it's dex entries since there's nothing in the design alone that suggests it is a theif, it doesn't look malicious or anything, cause it's not supposed to be, but I will concede that out of context it does just kinda look like the keys are just a part of it's body especially since there are pokemon that are like that, but they're not, they're stolen keys, like you said, lmao
For real, the Vanillite line is right there as far as uninspired designs with no explanation goes. A ghost pokemon that camouflaged itself to look like keys makes more sense than an ice pokemon that has existed since the ice age but inexplicably looks like ice cream in a cone.
@vlinderfin It would be funnier if it didn't mean they would also have to be the inspiration for the word "vanilla", which was a flavor long before it was used in ice cream, but regardless I'm bored of most of the "it's a household item with eyes" Pokémon at this point.
This is exactly how I decribe being owned by a parrot! The quintessential parrot experience is telling someone your bird is a bossy, spiteful little shit sustained by malice (affectionate), followed immediately by "I love them so much 🥹".
Nathan's Pokemon preference descriptions are so wonderful, we now have two scales: the "hell yeah" to "neat" to "fine" scale, and the "little guy" to "Gyarados" scale
Klefki is actually a pretty inspired design as it is living fairy metal that steals people’s people’s keys. It also gets its Klef name part from its key but also music note shape and keyhole mouth that looks like a cleft pallet!
My thought was always that Seaking had its name derived from the fact that it’s a goldfish and that the romanization of the word for goldfish in Japanese is “kingyo”

Watching this episode I couldn't help but imagine the Spider-Man pointing meme, only instead of various Spider-mans pointing at each other it was Jacob, Julia, and Karina showing each other the same picture of Wishiwashi on their phones.
When they were talking about big, scary rabbits, all I could think of was kangaroos. They're not at all rabbits, but their appearance and main deal is rabbit adjacent. They're hoppy bois with long ears. And they're big and scary.
Jacob really looked at his Pokémon, pointed at the existing lore he previously ignored, and said, "I did this." Like, he got the meaning of his Pokémon's name exactly as Game Freak intended and thought it was an original idea! I cannot wait for him to realize this, because it's exactly the same stuff he calls out other people for 😂
Yeah, it was pretty funny, though I will concede that there's nothing in Klefkey's actual design that indicates it is a thief, especially when compared to other pokemon who have objects that are just part of their body or that they just seem to be born with more or less, so by comparison Klefkey does just look like it could he just keys, Jacob's does do a better job of communicating it as a thief by having it be more mischievous looking and having it be more humanoid, but that also kind of erases the original concept of it being a camouflage animal adapted to an urban setting, the whole point of it is that it steals keys, not because it's a jerk or even really much of a scamp, but because it uses them to blend in with it's surroundings, that's also why it's body literally looks like a key and keyring, it hides, it's like those crabs that put sponges and stuff on their back to blend in but it's also a little house fae, but having it be explicitly innocent like that does make it harder to convey it's concept visually ...
@@vlinderfin It camouflages as a key ring. I mean, technically there's nothing in Jacob's design that points to stealing the keys it has. More like a Kingdom Hearts lawsuit.

I love how I glanced over while Julia was drawing, just in time to think, "Is she drawing Spheal!?" Before the rest of the cast realized it.
I am so happy to hear this intro for the first time. Julia sounds so good doing a Pokémon impression, which I never knew because I had never heard it before.
Sometimes true love is showing each other the exact same photo of Wishiwashi
At jacob and Julia's wedding they didnt exchange vows but instead exchanged pictures of wishiwashi
I like that Julia accidentally dropped magikarps japanese name
It’s so Julia to know Pokémon facts without realizing she knows Pokémon facts
I kept thinking back like "does she know??"
7:06 Magikarp's Japanese name is Koiking
"there should be a Koi King"
Well you see....
Came here to leave that comment, it came out of nowhere and made me laugh 😂
Julia, asked to draw Spheal: mall cop monstrocity we all know and love
Julia, drawing Jumpluf(?): absurdly accurate actual Spheal
With Bunneary’s pose, and the lower half being so fluffy, I imagine it evolving into a ballerina-esque rabbit, where the lower half becomes like a fluffy tutu
The problem with Jacobs concept for Klefki, aside from the fact that he didnt seem to understand it already does steal keys, is that if you make any fairy type to nefarious, it just becomes dark type. The intention isnt that hes a little stinker taking your shit, its a mystical creature that wisk away your keys, which is why it holds onto a small collection of keys its attatched to as opposed to hording them.
Also, he drew a physical attacker instead of a special attacker that focuses on prankster abilities.
AND IT ALSO SUCKS
Watching back I’m literally skipping that part of the video
Nathans Seaking lineart was really cool. But the render REALLY made it feakin cool. Id want that pokemon
Julia accidentally drawing an excellent spheal is SO funny
She definitely did it on purpose.
@@QuotePilgrim Yeah, she does the sillhouette exactly. It's still a pretty good bit but it does make me wonder how they set that up. If Spheal was on another layer, then we'd see it in the capture too, right? Did they tape a Spheal on the tablet??
it's still a little off so probably she just looked at spheal beforehand @@SuperstrenghtPorygon
She draws a perfect spheal and then draws a molecule
So the funny thing about Julia suggesting Koiking is that Koiking is Magikarp's Japanese name. 😂
The real king of the sea!
Im glad someone else mentioned that.
Unexpected Simple and Clean in this episode. And I genuinely am amazed that Nathan and Jacob kept it going at 15:00. Beautiful.
I love when they describe their new lore for klefki and it's the exact same as the original lore
I'm a big marine bio fan, so I just wanted to take the opportunity to talk about them since I really like siphonophores :3
Fun fact, if siphonophores were singular organisms instead of several micro-organisms, they'd easily be the longest creatures ever discovered
Yes!!! Found the Marine biologist! If anyone's interested and wants to learn more, The Octopus Lady here on TH-cam has a great video where they drive her up the wall.
Gholdengo is really like they took Gumby, gilded him and then gave him a snowboard.
Cheese string guy. Board and all.
He always reminded me of Lucio Overwatch
I thought he looked a lot like kokopelli
He looks like a lot of things, but most of them aren’t ghosts.
reminds me of like weird olympics mascots or other things like that.
Karina's "You people exhaust me" was perfection ♥
10:17 I love whenever Jacob says something wildly aggressive in the chillest tone possible, 10/10 very funny every time
I've finally gotten the experience of reading a comment right as the thing happens now
Karina complaining about something being too sexual is the height of irony.
She basically says "I know this is rich coming from me" and I strive for that self awareness
even the chief designer of sonic's butthole has her limits
I adore Karina’s lopunny - also hares are 100% the big scary wild version of bunnies
You can't fire Nathan because then he's gonna water you and that's super effective.
So julia started making spheal, karina made raboot and jacob messed up the lore of klefki... YEAH that fits the drawfee format of Nathan being the pokemon guy lmao
7:07 Koiking is the Japanese name for Magicarp. So, yes Julia, there is a koiking and they are already peefect
I have (un)fortunate news for Julia: Magikarp's Japanese name is Koiking.
i always thought it was obvious because “karpa” means koi on my native language and never noticed how random it sounded in english
im glad the drawfee sound language is growing. now we have the one panel comic sound AND the pokemon episode sound
Fun fact : Koiking is in fact Magikarp's Japanese name so technically it exists already.
I was just coming to the comments to see if someone had already said this!
Timestamp is 7:05
This is how I realized that wishiwashi's markings are meant to look like a cartoon fish skeleton
Julia absolutely continues her tradition if drawing a human man instead of a Pokemon
I am not seeing enough love for Nathan's awesome Seaking it was so good.
Also the Simple and Clean duet 🥹
The best actual pokemon design. Looked right at home in the games.
Julia's Pokémon impression gives me LIFE.
"He's not dead, he's just sad!" What a phrase, Jacob
Whoa! That sound was almost 1 for 1 from the last episode!
Actually Klefki's original name is already referencing that it's a kleptomaniac, it canonically already steals keys all the time
Jacob you look really foolish rn
@syntext Well according to the lore, the Vanillite line were actually the inspiration for the ice cream cone, which I think is pretty funny actually
Was looking for this as soon as Jacob started talking about it 😂
@vlinderfin It would be funnier if it didn't mean they would also have to be the inspiration for the word "vanilla", which was a flavor long before it was used in ice cream, but regardless I'm bored of most of the "it's a household item with eyes" Pokémon at this point.
As a rabbit owner, listening to that whole segment about rabbits was too real. They really are little jerks. But we love them anyway.
This is exactly how I decribe being owned by a parrot! The quintessential parrot experience is telling someone your bird is a bossy, spiteful little shit sustained by malice (affectionate), followed immediately by "I love them so much 🥹".
@@MissionPetAllDogsGonna make a judgement. Rabbits are less of a jerk than cats which are less of a jerk than parrots
@@NoThankUBeQuiet Having owned all three, I'd say you're right
Nathan's Pokemon preference descriptions are so wonderful, we now have two scales: the "hell yeah" to "neat" to "fine" scale, and the "little guy" to "Gyarados" scale
Klefki is actually a pretty inspired design as it is living fairy metal that steals people’s people’s keys. It also gets its Klef name part from its key but also music note shape and keyhole mouth that looks like a cleft pallet!
Did you watch lockstin/gnoggin by any chance?
The return of the Julia Pokemon intro 😂
My thought was always that Seaking had its name derived from the fact that it’s a goldfish and that the romanization of the word for goldfish in Japanese is “kingyo”
I think Seaking in Japanese is KoiKing, so a missed opportunity- nvm is azumao but still
@@bearoace3278That's Magikarp's Japanese name
@@bearoace3278Seaking's Japanese name is Azumao.
19:26 oooh yeah Natu has BIG Julia energy I’m not surprised she likes it, but I am surprised none of us put it together before this
Update: I care about jumpluff!!! They’re just a near-weightless pollen puff that floats on the breeze through forests and plains with its friends and family!! But I’m also just a big mushball for gen 2 pokemon. They’re perfect in my eyes.
I like how they made the concept of kelefkey of him stealing keys in their design is already the actual concept of the original Pokémon
Watching this episode I couldn't help but imagine the Spider-Man pointing meme, only instead of various Spider-mans pointing at each other it was Jacob, Julia, and Karina showing each other the same picture of Wishiwashi on their phones.
But can they make Venasaur NOT a pervert?
No. Only God can and he's got more important things to do
What?
@@markrounseville6998they did a tier list where unprompted Julia says "He strikes me as a pervert."
impossible
@@jacade5898 Gotcha, thanks!
Can someone spell out Julia’s Pokémon cry? She really nailed that 8bit -screech- cry.
Nathan's Seaking is so fucking good! Absolutely nailed it
When they were talking about big, scary rabbits, all I could think of was kangaroos. They're not at all rabbits, but their appearance and main deal is rabbit adjacent. They're hoppy bois with long ears. And they're big and scary.
37:05 can we just appreciate Julia's real good and nice circle right here
Julia's own impression of herself was SO good, I have to imagine she watched it back to practice xD
I love Flababe's hit routine, titled "I'm a french flaming baby who can dance like a man."
As someone who was never really exposed to pokemon as a kid, I love seeing all the different pokemon designs they reference included in the episode. Thanks for editing those in 💜
the fact jacob knows so little about klefki that he thinks the name references clefs and not kleptomania (the pokemon is a keyring that steals keys from people) is so funny and inspiring. i wish i didnt have to learn everything i could about pokemon all the time
Holy shit. That Seaking render was epic. I just started automatically bowing before I knew what was happening!!
The Swampert hate really makes me sad, I have very fond memories of beating Emerald with him on my team and just obliterating people with surf and earthquake lmao
Swampert was the first Pokemon I ever got to level 100, I love it so dearly, I can't take nor understand the slander 😤
The 60th anniversary of Doctor Who is November 23rd...might be a good week to do a Who related episode? Could draw each other as your own version of the Doctor...or throw Julia a bone and let her design a new TARDIS console room?
I want someone to put a dr Seuss prompt for No reason! 😂
Almost certainly too late for that now, if it isn't already recorded...
I'd take a Who episode no matter how late. Plus its three episodes coming out so if it released by the last one that would feel right
Wasn’t expecting to feel simple and clean after listening to this episode, but that’s just how it’s making me feel tonight, and it’s hard to let it go.
Julia's CBAT impression at 20:15 is *startlingly* good
klefki is actually a really strong support pokemon in every generation its allowed in, to the point where i put it on uber teams for its screen + thunderwave support, so i've kinda fallen in love with the lil guy
I love how they mentioned making a Pokemon named “Koiking”, because I’m fairly certain Magikarp is Koiking in Japanese. Lol
That is 100% Magikarp's Japanese name. I shouted out loud when Julia said that
