An independent thinker who doesn't necessarily follow the trends! Good to see you have your own practical opinions about bikes & riding. Steel bikes last a long time. As for them rusting from the inside out you can always spray a rust inhibitor inside the frame tubes. Rim brakes are perfectly fine, anything stronger is likely to send you over the handlebars in a panic stop. Guess who's pushing disc brakes & electronic shifters? The manufacturers make a bigger profit off of these "advancements".

I've never felt that my brakes were any worse than discs when I've compared them. They do have a diff feel, but the stopping power always felt about the same.
Hello J! I will continue to profile my other bikes. The success of this Ritchey video has made me aware that there is a hunger out in the TH-cam world for this type of content. I don't gravel much anymore since I was doing mixed terrain rides on my road bikes back before it was cool lol! But I will have to go get dirty for the tube! lol! Rim brake, alloy wheel, is absolutely more than adequate and I dare say superior to disc brake in performance in the dry. I don't ride in the rain anymore so I don't care that disc brakes might work better under those conditions. Keep in mind it doesn't matter how good the braking performance is if you don't have tire traction. Thanks for watching and stay tuned for more of my personal bikes.

Hi George, Nice bike! I build myself last year a Road Logic V2 grey and yellow with rim brakes. I went for Sram rival 1X 42 and 11 36 cassette . I know you won't like 1x setup :). For my place, this gear spread is ok. I know there are some limitations with 1X but up to now, no issue to follow my club mates in sunday morning rides. With some simple alloy Mavic Ksyrium wheels it rides really nicely. Not a single pain in the neck or back after a 200km ride. Simple, reliable, great handling, what to expect more of a road bike? To compare, I tried a CF disc brakes endurance bike for a ride, and...how to say... not bad, efficient, but not as funny as the Road logic. As you mentioned in another video about endurance bikes, it was like riding a bus :) Thanks for your channel, always interesting videos.
Hello Mathieu! Thank you for the comment! I’m not a fan of 1X because where I live we have a lot of hills. They are stupid steep or long flowing rolling terrain. A 42T front and 36T might work for most climbs but not for the real steep stuff 20% or more. Then a 42X11 would not be fast enough through long flowing descents or fast descents or sprints. You need a 53X11 to ride in fast group rides here. Congrats on your Ritchey! I think there is a typo in the paragraph where you talk about test riding a carbon disc brake bike. Can you check please? It says “not as funny” Thanks for watching please consider subscribing!
@@SeeYouUpTheRoad Yes understand what you mean. For sure, for long descents it doesn't suit very well, 60kph is enough for me 😄. We have short hills, max 12% so it's fine for me. For real mountain, yes, I would have done differently. For the test I had, I wanted to say that this CF bike was not very lively. Steering was not very responsive. It was a joy to come back to my Ritchey. Sorry if my english is not so good, this is not my native language 😀

As an old roadie just getting back into the sport. I thought your comment about rim brakes vs disk was very interesting. I have old rim brakes on my roadbikes but I'm considering disk on a mountainbike. I also like that you carry the pump. I recently used the CO2 shot for the first time on a repair that got me home but the patch only held for a bit and was dead the next day. Another advantage of the pump. I'm going back to carrying the frame pump. I'm very curious about your wheels. I haven't ridden any carbon wheels but where/how can I get those aero covers? Can you just add them onto normal aluminum box type rims? What type of tire and tube do you run/prefer? I'm currently on rene herse and silka tubes but wondering about tubeless on the road. Lastly, love the Ritchey style and steel is real. I just did my first cyclocross race and there was a guy with a very nice ritchey fold up bike there. He got lots of compliments on the bike.
Ha ha you’re not a softy! I’m just too stubborn to use bigger cassettes because I don’t like the big gaps between the gears. Everyone rides what they can and like to ride getting to the top is the main goal how you get there isn’t as important. Thanks for watching please consider subscribing
George - I have a Wabi steel single speed bike w/ alloy wheels & Tektro rim brakes. Could you pls recommend one or two options for replacement pads? (I live in the SF Bay Area, so dry conditions.) Thx!
I just use Shimano pads. Some people like Kool Stop but I don’t have a color recommendation try them out and let me know. I just believe in the KISS method. 😂
@@SeeYouUpTheRoad thanks, George - simple is generally the best approach. I actually just decided to upgrade my calipers by going from very generic Tektro calipers to some [OE / "brown box"] Shimano R7000 symmetrical dual pivot calipers. I'm happy to have my LBS install those along w/ several other tune-up-y things as soon as my UPS driver arrives.
No worries on rust. If you ride in the rain often then you should be riding a plastic bike 😉 you should spray frame saver inside your steel frames yearly or more often if you ride in the rain. I have a steel Bianchi from 1986 - no rust
Great video and thank you for it! How do you feel the frame size of the logic compares to a more typical compact frame? (Hopefully my comments don’t end up on your stupid comment video!)
I really don’t know how to answer that Ian. I sell a narrow band of their product line because of my customer base. Everything I’ve sold and used I find excellent!
I bought a road bike last year, my first one ever. I wanted an aluminium frame one, the guy of the shop asked me how much I wanted to spend and I told him. He said for that money I could buy a carbon frame bike that they lowered prices a lot and I listened to him. I still regret it, carbon frames are garbage. My next bike I don't want a single carbon piece, fork included. Fuck plastic
George I suggest you watch your own video on TH-cam. This one skips and repeats every two min.s or so. One of your other video's did that as well. Is it a server problem??? Just a heads up. Good content here

If someone at Ritchey reads this: Please, bring this exact frame with Direct Mount brake mounts and pre-drilled holes for Di2 cables. Everything else is perfect.
The reason people think they need discs is because they're more profitable for bike manufacturers. Anything that's more profitable will be pitched to gullible consumers.
Indeed! Or they are riding carbon clinchers which have terrible braking in the dry and downright dangerous in the wet. Alloy rim brake system is more than adequate and preferred by me.
@@SeeYouUpTheRoad I have disc brakes on my MTB and gravel, and honestly I prefer them for those disciplines, but I'm unsure they're worth the increased maintenance cost. For road bikes they have no value unless you ride exclusively in the rain. Never ridden carbon wheels on rim brakes, but I've heard the horror stories.
It’s important that “stupid” questions are addressed and used as teaching points. I believe you took the wrong angle of why I wanted to address stupid questions in a reaction video. Its a beauty George! Nice Chris King head set is the Ritchey head set les superior ? I have thomson seat tube wich is ok but would like to swap it for a Ritchey. Carbon seatube would it be more comfy?
Thank you Alex!
The Ritchey headset is of excellent quality. It has held up well in 8 years of tarmac, gravel and some foul weather and 11,000 miles.
Regarding the seatpost - is your Thomson seatpost aluminum? The Ritchey Flex Logic is designed to “flex” 15% - so it surely is an upgrade for you.

Hi George,
Nice bike!
As you mentioned in another video about endurance bikes, it was like riding a bus :)
Thanks for your channel, always interesting videos.
It says “not as funny”

Sorry if my english is not so good, this is not my native language 😀
nice bike, what are size are u? cant decide between a 51 or 53cm for my logic, im 5.9!
Thank you!
I’m also 5’9” longer legs than torso proportionally. I ride a 55cm. How would you characterize your body type? What would be your justification for 51 cm or 53 cm?

ah great. I think I want one now for my daily structured workouts that I do both indoors and outdoors 😂 Will keep my Orbea Orca for special and/or race days only.
Wonderful! Are you in the US? I’m putting a list together for backorders
Sadly, not available as rim brake version where I live. I'd love to have an all mechanical, rim brake build of this.
Where do you live? I just ordered 7 Ritchey Road Logic frames. They are due in next month

nice bike. I love steelbikes and their classic look. I ride a veloheld icon. Do you use any particular framepump? Im on a search for one and my frame doesn't have these steel nobs to put the pump in place
Hello crack0n - unfortunately companies have stopped making frame pumps. I need to make a video about this!
Correction: they made titanium breakaway bikes until a few years ago. Apparently it was difficult for them to control the quality at their overseas factory since titanium is harder to work with.
Yes you are correct -
The frames below have been discontinued.
Break-Away Carbon Road
Break-Away Carbon Outback
Break-Away Steel Road
Break-Away Steel Cross
Thanks for watching and thanks for participating in the discussion
Thanks for the clarity on the break away discontinued bikes. Wow…that means Ritchey isn’t making carbon bikes either. The only break-away models left are the outback and tandem? I assume they’ll make an ascent version at some point but who knows.
@@brandonsouba I’m a true blue roadie. I can’t understand why anyone rides dirt BUT… 😂 what is the purpose of the Ascent? I’m getting confused with all their models now and yeah an Ultra too. 😂
@@SeeYouUpTheRoad yeah there is a ton of overlap with the Swiss cross, Outback, and Ascent. I think the idea is to match the bike to the terrain you ride a majority of the time. Then again, I saw a video of Tom riding last weekend on this gnarly gravel on a 1980s road logic he built
@@brandonsouba correct because the Road Logic is all you need!
George, how do you climb with such tall gearing, I’m running 50/34 with 11-30 to 11-34 on my bikes with gradients of 9 to15……am i a softy?
Ha ha you’re not a softy! I’m just too stubborn to use bigger cassettes because I don’t like the big gaps between the gears.
Everyone rides what they can and like to ride getting to the top is the main goal how you get there isn’t as important.

Great review, mate. Selling my Cervelo to get this instead but never has a steel bike and worried about rust. Any advice? Thanks
No worries on rust. If you ride in the rain often then you should be riding a plastic bike 😉 you should spray frame saver inside your steel frames yearly or more often if you ride in the rain. I have a steel Bianchi from 1986 - no rust
@@SeeYouUpTheRoad awesome, thanks!
@@quantumdecoherence1289 You’re Welcome
Very excellent for a 2014
Thank You Ian! I then shot video 2 of 2 when I stepped a few components off another bike.
I’m not sure if you mentioned already but what width are your tyres and what sort of clearance is there?
Thanks
Generally I run 25 tires on 21 internal 25 external rim with plenty of clearance to ride 28 tires when I ride gravel with this bike
Steel is my kind of deal! :D
Well played!

Great video and thank you for it! How do you feel the frame size of the logic compares to a more typical compact frame? (Hopefully my comments don’t end up on your stupid comment video!)
Any HEDs you would not rec.?
I really don’t know how to answer that Ian. I sell a narrow band of their product line because of my customer base. Everything I’ve sold and used I find excellent!
@@SeeYouUpTheRoad Great! Did you remove the white Hed decals/stickers ? (last dumb question, will make it up to you)

Good content here
Hello Steve thanks for your comment but I have no issues watching this video or any other of my videos. Worked on my iPhone or Mac either at work, at home on or off Wifi. I even had my girlfriend watch this video different network with no issues either. Sounds like an issue on your end 🥲

You are not likely to get new viewers by mocking the ones you had.
It’s important that “stupid” questions are addressed and used as teaching points. I believe you took the wrong angle of why I wanted to address stupid questions in a reaction video.
Did anyone say mocking? Did you not listen to the message and teaching point when I spoke about “leveling a saddle”?
Thank you for your opinion and thank you for watching!
I look forward to engaging in a dialogue with you.
What size is the ritchey.
Why do you ask what is the size of this bike? Why does it matter? 55
