Well i've been teased with photo's for the past few days from Tony with updates of my bodywork and the nightmare that these decals have been to fit! What most people won't have seen is how poor these panels were to begin with and the difference is night and day, it really gives you an appreciation of the time and patience that this job has required and words can't describe how happy i am to see these panels being restored to there former glory. The bike was dormant for 13 years and these are the final pieces to my Suzuki GSXR1100WS jigsaw! I tip my hat to you Tony, fantastic work (as always) and to see the process documented this way, well just makes you smile mate :)
Hey Chris and awesome you could join us for the video mate on your bike mate and it’s a pleasure to be able to bring life back into these classics and make them new again for guys like yourself that appreciate it mate
Really top skills and professionalism. You bake after two days? Is it because it's a plastic substrate or is it the clear coat that may boil? Thank you.
Good to watch.. I'm a little surprised at how much you can spray on without it running. Seems like you kept layering more and more clear over and over. It's great to get that deep shine and the extra protection of a good solid coat of clear but I'd have been worried it would run later. So you put a clear coat over the base then applied the graphics bthen another clear coat, so the base coat isn't up against the graphics...ok. I thought you'd put the decals straight onto the base coat then clear. It's a good idea so none ofw the base seeps into the decals..
There is mate we don’t do many as not a lot of people will pay for the amount of hours it takes but when we get one that does it’s always nice to smarten an old classic up like this
I love your work and was wondering where you would go to get custom decals made? Are decals that get clear coat on top of them a lot thinner than normal ones?
Awesome 👏 video Tony those pieces are sparkling ✨ hands down keep it up and keep making more videos and happy Father’s day to you enjoy your day Tony all the best 👍👍👍👍👍👍👍👍👏👏👏👏✨✨✨✨✨✨✨💯💯💯💯💯💯💯💯💯✊✊✊✊👊👊👊👊👊👊💪💪💪💪💪💪🤙🤙🤙🤙🤙🤙🙏🙏🙏🙏🙏👌👌👌👌👌👌👌
Good stuff Tony your attention to detail is top notch the way you explain things to the novice is outstanding. Say hi to Mick and keep the faith brother 😄😄😄
Nice job as usual , i love flow coating did an old Lambretta for a mate he was over the moon with the original finish but i said i could improve on that . He was blown away with the final finish . Its nice sometimes when people let you do a nice job instead off that will do .
Yeah that’s one of the reasons I like running my own shop mate tbh my standard I think are high and there’s no one to hold me back we can always put our best out and never have to rush just to keep a boss happy
Tony - great video thanks for posting. What spray gun pressure regulator. I have an INA one which is good. But doesn't seem to be so easy to adjust as the one that you use
Hi Tony unreal job..question,just bought a old 78 z1000 the body work has been professionaly painted a beautiful blue only few months old but the previous owner never put decals on it..can decals be applied and another coat of clear on top?
So if my bike doesn't have plastic parts and is all metal that i want to put my decals on do i need to put a layer of clear coat on before and after i add the decals ? Or just after the decals? In other words can i lay the decals straight on to the paint and then clear coat over the decals and paint or should i clear coat over all the paint first then put decals over clear coat then a second layer of clear coat over decals ?
Never would of thought of using soapy water under the decal,I can see the logic that if there's a liquid film, you can't have air present and therefore no air bubble, but I'm surprised it evaporates without causing the decal to lose its adhesive properties
Looking awsome, some great tips for us novices 😊. Have you ever tried vinly wrapping? I have done a few small bits with great success, but it's a whole new skill set.
awesome job, congrats! may i ask you, those decals are printed and cutted or only cutted? in case only cutted how are they made, one layer of vinyl for each colour? i doubt cause at the very begining back side of decal is red ..not white like regular printing vinyl....
Hi Tony hope you doing well Just a quick question I was woundering if Roberlo primer could be diluted with 2K thinner due to its high viscosity ? Thanks
I put some stripes on a tank using the same procedure as you've shown.Unfortunately I got a fly in the clear.I masked out the stripes and did a local blow in with basecoat and when I removed the masking before I cleared the whole tank the clear pulled off the stripes, nowhere else just the stripes. Any idea why that would happen ?
Ah man sorry to here that buddy and I’d say mate tbh just abit of bad luck there mate I’ve never once in all my years had an issue with the decals below and we’ve done hundreds may have just been a random issue
Hey fella I usually use a single edge blade to cut off the graphic and clear that covering it in one pass , the trick is once you have an edge started warm them with a heat gun and it should pull away from the clear
You can only see the inside of the top one the rest are all covered mate so the way I do it is do the inside of the top fairing last to make sure it’s nice and clean
Those panels look mint so far Tony can't wait to see how they turn out after the flow coat, I bet your customer Chris is over the moon with the finished product. I like the Ultimate clear from Final Systems but as you say it does tend to suffer with the supplied fast hardener, I tried it a couple of times using the super rapid hardener but even after a couple of hours you could see the drop in gloss, I'm surprised Final Systems haven't sorted this out as it's their premium clear, I think Jordan was involved with the making of this clear so we will have to have words 😂😉 but as you say using the Churchill hardener it's a completely different product. You can buy this as a clear only (no hardener) deal so that's what I will be doing in the future then get the Churchill hardener. Looking forward to the next instalment Tony, stay safe mate 🙏👍
Thanks man glad you enjoyed it and yeah the hardener isn’t the best that done with it but I’m sure the smart repair guys and such like it as it’s so quick which is where I think this has the market I guess
Yeah you are probably right as it is pretty quick with the supplied hardener, haven't tried the final systems standard/slow hardener maybe that is ok, I have used the Churchill premium fast hardener and that seems fine as well so should be handy when it's colder.
Imagine the multiple skills Tony has in the trade and then has to learn editing and filming on top. Massive respect!!! Always take something away from this channel .🤛🏻🤛🏻
Nice job as always mate I used to do a fair amount of bikes sometimes id make my own designs but more often use decals I don't think people realise how much time and effort goes into doing this as you know yourself its not a matter of just sticking them on theres all the lining up and triming and measuring plus all the time I found to do a decent job you need at least a few weeks with the bike I've had people saying can I have my bike back tommorow they turn up at dinner time then want it back next day I didn't take on these jobs theres no point you know they going to be harrasing you all the time for it back mind we both know this as we said before about it, as I said nice job mate can I have the bike ha ha ha hows your health as well resting more I hope buddy

@@TonysRefinishingTV well I've actually used a rattle can of Upol high build primer to sort out all the scraches on the panel . Although I've used high build primer there was still a lot of tiny scraches after laying the clear coat down? You reckon i could get a better result with 1.8 gun. So i could lay down more material? Great video. How long do decals need to dry before you can paint on top
Where do i find the second part to this video please?
Awesome content and so informative !!!
Sir is it okay to wrap bike tank & then put clear coat on it to make it last longer?
Hi Tony unreal job..question,just bought a old 78 z1000 the body work has been professionaly painted a beautiful blue only few months old but the previous owner never put decals on it..can decals be applied and another coat of clear on top?
yes mate youd need to flat it back to key it up with say p1000 then apply the decals and clear it
@@TonysRefinishingTV cheers Tony..I can build motors but painting never seems to work for me,I'll leave it to the pros!
What is that mechanism you have to hold the fairing up while painting?
Do you sand paper the decals or just clean them with sillicone cleaner

around how much does it cost for a full bike fairing respray?

Sure can mate yes
Is the pm800 a sponge or an 800 wet and dry Emery paper
how long do you wait before applying the decals after first clearcoat?
Its best to do the first layers of clear flat then the next day then either bake or leave a few days
Awesomeness Tony boss... Super helpful... Love you man... Lord Almighty bless you and Michael buddy 😍🙏👑👑👑👑
Thanks Bruce
Hi tony have you done a clearcoat then flatted it back and then put the decals on or are the decals on the basecoat
I always clear Then flat then reclear mate
there a grain sand behind the vinyl can i just clear coat and cut the clear coat then polish would the bump still show?
you shouldn't do it that way no the vinyl needs to be laid flat first
