Used this product first time yesterday, I only have to knock it down and polish. Great so far. Easy to apply. Helpful video...thanks. I can say it went over various surfaces on a motorcycle gas tank...old clearcoat, new clearcoat, sanded freshly painted paint, very old paint (all lightly sanded with 2500 grit) ...sticks to all.
Not sure why people think they can just wipe down some old paint and then run a layer of spraymax 2k and then complain it peeled online. I love this stuff and this little q&a video is perfect. If you follow this guys instruction, i seriously doubt your paint is gonna peel in 3 years, let alone 1 year
Great video guys. How long should i wait for recoating after wet sanding? Want to spray 3 coats over base, then wetland any impurities and spray 2 more coats with a fresh can. This will be done on a motorcycle tank and fenders. Thanks!
Thank you so much for watching! I would recommend waiting at least sixteen hours based on 70 degree temperature, after the last coat of clearcoat is applied.
I will be applying spray max 2 k clear coat over acrylic enamel paint, grimspeed gold on my wheels. How long should I wait before applying the clear coat? Thanks!
I've looked at all the info , reviews , and tech sheets for this 2K clearcoat but nobody addressed the recoating of this clearcoat. Is there a recoat window? Can it be sanded to level the finish over striping or layered base colors and then recleared with minimum of 2 additional coats allowing for denibbing and polishing.
Good Morning! It can absolutely be sanded, provided you have applied enough clearcoat to sand. But I would recommend a minimum of two full wet coats, and then allow about 12 hours, or even overnight dry time, and then we suggest sanding with 1000g to level out any imperfections. Once completed you can re-clear with 2-3 coats of clear based on 70 degree temperature. If you have any further questions please don't hesitate to call, or even reply! We're happy to help!
I color matched a bumper to my truck and used this stuff for the clear. Is it going to make much of a difference if I only wait 19-20 hours before I wet sand it rather than 24hrs? When I sprayed the clear it was about 65-70 degrees in my garage with low humidity
Great video, thank you! If you get Orange Peel on 1st coat, do we continue on with 2nd coat, then wet sand 24 hours later, OR do we stop after 1st coat, wait 24 hours, wet sand, then apply 2nd coat (wet sand, etc)

I’m going to use this to repaint a patch on the hood of my car that is rusted. I’m well aware it won’t perfectly match. It’s a small spot, so the clear coat will definitely get on the surrounding area, which still has the factory paint and clear coat. Will this product in any way damage the factory clear coat or cause it to bubble?
Have used before, like the product. Planning a golf cart repaint that is five hours away for me, while they are on their honeymoon, don’t want to bring air equipment. I seem to recall being able to get a base coat from Spraymax, but those seem hard to find these days. Looking at a royal blue type color. Are base coats an option? At this point, I’m leaning toward Fusion paint, since it’s straight up plastic, or should I go the primer route? Trying to sort out all the details so I’m ready to go in a few months. Thanks for the vid.

Hello, I'm finishing a white guitar and I do not want to use a traditional Nitrocellulose Lacquer clear coat because it will yellow over time. Will the Spraymax 2K clear coat yellow over time? Thanks
Question for you i restored my headlights a few year's ago and used 2kmax as a clearcoat (ford fiesta 2019) They need restoration again, Having a close look i noticed mutable cracks all over the lens? Anyway i took my car to a headlight expert who informed me i had spider cracking right through the polycarbonate lenses and would fail my next vehicle inspection test!! The only solution would be to buy a new set!! £600 POUNDS!!🤔😭😱
Your prep work was not done correctly, Those cracks your referring to was probably clear coat that did not bind well with the plastic Happens when surface isn’t properly prepped Happened to me
@@999JosephI think the prep was done to well? As it's been proven that 2k over bonds to polycarbonate not allowing the surface to expand and contract with changing temperatures Winter Summer ect🤔
Even 3M says no respirator with isocyanates. “Isocynates seek moisture and can be ingested through skin, hair, and eyeballs.” You are supposed to wear a supplied air hood in a booth. I am thinking full face mask with p100 cartridges, tyvek suit and nitrile gloves outdoors down wind. Before bug season!!
P100 is just a dust filter, and will do NOTHING to filter isocyanates. Although respirators are not recommended for isocyanates, if you are going to use a respirator, you need to use something that can remove organic vapors, such as the 60920 series filters.
Nice video! 👍 I have a question. Can I use this 2k spray can to paint my whole entire car at one time? Instead of taking the panels or or doing peice by peice?
Even though this stuff sprays excellent it is still an aerosol can, it sprays wide but not quite wide enough in my opinion for the larger areas on your car.
If the previous 1k clear is peeling in a few spots on my hood, could I wet sand around the edge of the peel, and apply the 2k afterwards? The paint is still good in those spots because the peeling just started.
These products as you say are professional grade, you failed to mention that the activator is isocyanate a particularly nasty chemical. These products are only to be used in a spray booth with full body and eye protection worn and an air fed mask. It is wrong to imply that the non professional DIYer is safe to use these products in a home/garage environment. In some countries like the UK it is actually illegal to use these outside of a professional spray booth, although enforcement of that rule is another story.
Good afternoon gents, So much mixed info on painting plastics. Just painted my kids dirt bike frame and plastic covers with diff shades of rustoleum 2x spray. Its cured over a week. Is the spraymax 2k good for the both frame and plastic. Is your 2k not a good option because of the flex in plastic
If it is a lacquer base it is compatible but keep in mind that it is only as flexible as what it is covering. If it is an OIL BASE then do not use this product on it.
I used over my base coat 5 months ago. After a week I wet sanded then polished. It looked beautiful..for a month. Then started losing it's shine. I repolished it and beautiful again. A month later, lost it's shine again. I just repolished..looks beautiful again...why isn't it keeping it's shine

What is considered a fresh base coat? I painted an outboard cowling two days ago and plan to use this to clear it tomorrow. Will that be fine without any further prep?
I cannot answer that for sure because it has been 2 days, which will prob have dust or other containments on the paint. Be sure and clean the paint surface with a tack cloth and this should remove any dirt or dust.
@@repaintsupply I wiped the paint clean and sprayed the clear. The clear coat worked very well, however I wish I applied it just a smidge more heavier on my last two coats. Would use again!
Hi again. Today the guy came to clear coat my car . So far used 9 cans of the 2k spray max after he was done I noticed he did not press the red cap on any of the cans, what will happen now? This is stressful, am I goin to have to rebuy all cans and redo
If the cans were never activated by inserting the red caps on the bottom of the can and pressing to make sure the hardener was activated, then the clear coat will NEVER setup. All clear that has been sprayed will have to be removed and then re-cleared. This may also damage the paint that was applied also.
