- Honda CBR900RR Fireblade Fairing Stickers | Applying & Painting Clear Coat Over Decals | 15
In this episode, I put the decals on the fairing and front cowl of my CBR900RR project bike then sprayed them with a clear coat.
Adhesion promoter spray: ebay.us/qUhZTU
Hot air gun, I got mine from Lidl but this is the same: ebay.us/4YL6WV
Here’s what I use for the Fireblade service in this video:
Ani F160 Spray Gun: ebay.us/82yZm4
150L Compressor: ebay.us/xxiVq8
Kapci 6030 2K HS Anti-Scratch Clearcoat with 6033 hardener 1.5L: ebay.us/giUv5x
1200 Wet & Dry paper: ebay.us/PWRC2N
Adhesion promoter spray: ebay.us/qUhZTU
When I got this bike it had previously been painted all black and in the previous episode I put the decals on the tank and rear panels of my CBR900RR. I was really pleased with how they looked so I was inspired to complete the job and do the rest of the fairings and the front cowl.
I received two sets of stickers when I bought the bike, one was an aftermarket set of the original stickers which were in yellow. I did consider using these to make the bike look standard, but the other set seemed better quality and where the original had yellow these had gold.
The wheels had been powder coated gold by the previous owner who I think was intending to use the gold sticker kit, so I decided that I would also follow that plan. Having already completed the tank and side panels I knew they gave a quality look.
The middle panel between the belly pan and the front cowl, although relatively small, has five different stickers covering most of its surface. This actually worked out much better than I thought it would. I did find one small crack in the panel which I had to repair. As it would be under a sticker, I made sure it was smooth and just covered it with a bit of rattle can satin black.
The clear coat went on very well, although I do still have some areas that are a little thin along with a little orange peel here and there. Overall though I am thrilled it looks wonderful. The imperfections can be fixed with a machine polish once the clear coat has fully hardened.
Look at the finished result in the video, and you will see why I am beaming when I look at this bike!

Really good job. Well done
Thanks a lot!
Absolutely brilliant job you've done there, it looked really time consuming but you've certainly made it look like a head turner, I've been waiting for this video to see how you get on with it, and it's certainly been worthwhile, well done, 👍👍👍
Thank you very much! It was time consuming, the amount of video on the cutting room floor (well maybe in the recycle bin) was enormous! But the end result was so worthwhile.
You did a great job putting on the decals. Bike looks amazing
Glad you like it. I am thrilled with how it came out.
Looks really good, they look just wrong without decals regardless of how good the paint finish is, great job 👍
Yeah I agree, it really needed finishing.
Great job , inspired me to do my Blackbird
Hope you get as good a result as I did. Patience and care and it will come out great.
Looks fantastic Les. You could do with some stabilizers on that stool 😂👍
Absolutely, luckily I had a soft landing.
F--king awesome! You are a true master
Thank you very much! I was pleased with the result. 😃

nice job, I also own one, it looks beautiful, but I'm still adjusting a few more things😅
Cool, thanks! They're great bikes, and nothing like making it your own.
Paint protection pads for the tank
Yes, it sounds like a really good idea. Must put it on the list.
Cracking job!
I was absolutely thrilled with how it came out. Still chuffed.
Splendid job sir. Can I ask what is the heat gun you use please?
Hi Patrick, I got mine from Lidl but this is the same with the nice controls: ebay.us/4YL6WV
@@SPANNERRASHthank you, appreciate the prompt response. Keep up the great work sir!!!…oh and can I compliment you on your lawn edging… very very neat ❤
Nice Honda
Thanks, you can't beat a 'blade!
where did you get the stickers from
I got two sets (the other are the standard yellow) with the bike when I bought it, and I think the guy I bought it off got it with the two sets of stickers too, but never did anything with them. So I am really sorry I can't help with a supplier, wish I could!
What’s the stuff in the spray can you put on prior to the lacquer?
Good question, its adhesion promoter spray, it helps the clear stick to the decals nicely. This stuff: ebay.us/qUhZTU
Check out the previous vid where I give more detail about the process when doing the tank. Hope that helps! 😃
