Turned out fantastic! Years ago when my friend got her first motorcycle she did the lace trick on her helmet using black, pinks and White. We are both artistic and inspire each other. Been best friends for 40 years and met in 2nd grade.

While I won't be re-doing any motercycle helmets, I do like to refinish & restore home decor so I'm going to keep watching for tips & tricks I can use, or adapt your ideas to my own projects. Thanks so much for sharing your obvious talents & skill with spray paint. Right off I can see that the tip of using the paint lid to splatter paint is beneficial & less waste to the average user. I've watched a lot of your videos, and I don't use spray paint, but I absolutely LOVE your videos. You crack me up and are actually pretty talented.
FYI, I was a trauma nurse for 20 years and I'm going to implore you to wear a helmet. I know, I know, but my husband wouldn't ever ride without a helmet. As that nurse, I have seen all kinds of horrors to the head and brain that resulted in broccoli status if not death for seemingly minor accidents. And never, ever, try to wear one of those half-helmets that we call "brain buckets". If you hit hard, all you'll have is a flip-top head like the old commercials from the 1990's for Reach toothbrushes.
Proper armor wouldn't hurt either because without it, you're just a skin donor to the pavement. That can also kill you, by the way. At speed, if you land off of your bike, you can skid for several hundred feet. That will wear through denim in a couple of seconds. A t-shirt will be destroyed almost as soon as you hit. What's beyond your shirt? Skin. You'll be treated like a burn patient, if you survive. You'll spend months in the hospital, have dozens of surgeries, and likely will have to go through extensive rehab just to wipe your arse by yourself.
But the brain is the worst injury.
LITERALLY, a flip top head. You can literally lift the top of the skull completely off of your head.
Don't be a douche. Don't leave your family without you. Wear a helmet. Please, for the love of God, wear a proper helmet.
THANK you for telling folks that not wearing a helmet isn't cool.
I've seen a brain laying on a CT table when the bandage EMS placed happened to slip off. Yes, the whole brain falling out of the skull onto the CAT scan table because the previous nurse didn't remove the bandage to properly assess.
I don't ride, even as a passenger, for a reason. One small miscalculation, if you don't have the proper equipment, can leave you as a skin donor, or with a flip-top head, or worse, an internal decapitation. I can only think of one child that ever survived an internal decapitation to go on to function 70% normally.
I will never, ever, be seen seated on a motorcycle unless it's a DIRE emergency, and I can't image what could be so dire as to get me on a bike. NO way. NO how.
Wear a fully accredited full face helmet. It can have Bluetooth and all kinds of other things. My husband has all of those. And if it's cracked, don't buy it. If you crash and crack your helmet, buy another because it's useless after it's cracked.
In my book, if you don't wear a helmet because you don't think it's cool, then you're a douche and I shouldn't have to waste my time and valuable resources to try to save you. Looking cool is asking for trouble because not being safe and demonstrating that to others isn't cool. You just look like an ass.
I'm glad you started wearing a helmet.

Wow thank you for caring enought to write that thoughful message - but I actually ALWAYS wear a helmet and just did that part for the bit of context reasoning for painting on the helmet and to say that not wearing one is a dumb idea.

My father was a training to be a physician in England in the 1950's. During his stint as senior resident, he owned a motorbike. One rainy night, he had to amputate 3 legs in a 6 hour window. They were all motorcycle accidents. He sold his bike the next week and has never ridden one since.
He turned 91 in April this year.

Thank you for your service as a Trauma Nurse! I know a bit about what it's like because I dated/lived with a trauma nurse for several years way back in the 70s, and we would routinely have the "decompression talk" after she'd had a particularly rough day just so she could get the horrors off her chest - so to speak - and maybe her PTSD wouldn't end up so bad. Instead we shared it... ;)
Much later on I had another girlfriend, a professional ballerina, who had survived a severe bike (bicycle) accident in NYC where the EMTs literally had to pick her precious beautiful brain up off the curb. She actually recovered with remarkably good results, (like she could still dance!), but the poor mad sweetie lived with classic TBI issues (AKA Jekyll and Hyde syndrome) for ever after...
So yeah; helmet = good, no helmet = douche...

This is a little bit off the actual topic - pardon my curiosity - but I am curious what happened to this mentioned patient who had his/her brain sliding out the skull to CAT scan table - I mean in the end brain and spine are rather squishy and flexible piece of meat and brain could potentially be inserted smoothly back to its nest into skull?

The water trick - if you towel it off BEFORE the paint dries completely, the water detail will streak a bit with the overlay making a bit of a double layer in places. Even cooler than just with the straight water droplets. Personally I like doing a base of three or so colors (just spray splotches in random areas) for instance, gold, rose and forest green, then overlay with the water technique in black. Because you wipe it while the paint is still soft/fresh, you'll get some areas that are black and some that are a greyed version of the underlying color and some that are a more vibrant (water as the resist) of the colors beneath. This was one of my favorite techniques we used in our paint jobs.

I'm known in my town as somewhat of a master of backyard spraycan graphics. I did flames on a Nissan 720, scallops on a Buick Regal, all with spraycans. I like all of your techniques, some of which I've done and some I haven't done. One of my favs is the "bowling ball" finish, or marbleized if you prefer. I'll usually do it inside a wide pinstripe or inset in a graphic.
My Suzuki Savage chopper has reverse flames inside a panel on the sides. OEM gloss black, tape line a panel, tape line the flames, but instead of painting the flames, paint the reverse (outside the flames, inside of panel). *using all Wicked Colors airbrush paints:
    1.) sealer/black base
2.) Silver over sealer (if using candy color)
3.) marbleizer * while wet, drape saran wrap over wet paint, then remove when desired effect is acheived. allow flash time
4.) Candy transparent sapphire blue over marbleizer
5.) gloss clear over candy color and you're done

D, I LOVE what you do….I LOVE learning so much from you. You have been an inspiration to so many of my “up cycles” that friends “oooohh” & “awwwwe” over…
    Yes….here comes the “but”……
As a Nurse Practitioner (Specialty in ER and Trauma) and a Baby Brother that was with the NHL….hearing you say you weren’t wearing a helmet made my gut do a flip flop & a 🤢…… In ER, when the “bus” come in…and we hear it was a MVA with a “Bike” and no Helmet…….we call that patient a “Donor”. I can not stress enough the need for Helmets and the laws to change in so many (1 is TOO many) States that do not have Helmet Laws. PLEASE PLEASE PLEASE wear a HELMET and if you or anyone reading this insists on NOT wearing a Helmet……then sign your Donor Card and let your family KNOW you want to be a Donor. Being an Organ & Body Donor can SAVE 8 Lives and over 80 other life changing donations from ONE Body donation. So, if you do not care about your body/life than give it over to someone who DOES care and WANTS to LIVE. Thanks and sorry I sound like a PSA but it is a HUGE deal to me and it hits home far closer than many know as it is just too difficult to speak about.
Now….for painting a HELMET……I am not sure if this is just for “Show” or if you are actually planning on USING this Helmet but let me say that what USED to be and COULD STILL BE a large issue with altering ANY “DOT” Helmet is that once you paint it……it becomes substantially weaker unless painted with specific paints that are approved by some governing body that you would have to reach out to based on the DOT. USED TO BE. I have not have a need to look this information up for a long time but when it was prevalent in my family, that was the rules. It became so much of legal issue that the laws were changed for Goalies in particularly as they were the first to begin “customizing” their masks. Once they started doing that, their masks would shatter upon impact due the deterioration of the mask from the paint being used….hence the safety laws for these Masks and Helmets coming into “play” (pun not intended, but not bad).
So, something to look into and think about.
Also, I know you said you picked that Helmet up for a few bucks at a Thrift shop….Helmets (as you should know because you ride) DO “time out” as well as become useless once they have been “dropped”. So, again I can only hope you were making that “awesome” looking for show and to teach but NOT for ACTUAL SAFETY?
I can only Pray 🙏🏻 that is the reason.
Regardless, I know I am NOT your Mom. I just want to ensure people understand that there are indeed specialized paints and even specialized artists that are authorized by the NHL (and most likely NFL) to paint these Masks CUSTOM for these Athletes. I have indeed seen some amazing customized helmets in my time and to say that they are the most incredible and artistic things that you have ever seen is pretty much on par. Take a look on the Net and look up any Goalie and see their Masks that are customized. WOW! Now, they do pay in the range of 8-15K for each one but you can’t put a price on safety or fashion ……. Or so they say. 🤷🏼‍♀️
Anyway, just needed to share my 2 cents for what it is worth. I love your work and what you do so much and I have all my faves and notifications set for you…..and a few others of course but very few.
So, please stay safe, wear the brain bucket and some leathers because “road rash” hurst like a B*^&!!!! You’ll only set it down ONCE!
Just keep that gorgeous face of yours in ONE PIECE PLEASE.
From my heart to all those that ride….protect that Grey matter.🙏🏻❤❤❤

Wow thank you so much for your kind words and caring, but I have a confession - I actually ALWAYS wear a full-face helmet and this was only a bit for the video to make sense for painting on this $5 thift store helmet I found. But it was two-fold to stress to viewers that ride that NOT wearing a helmet is a dumb idea. The one I wear is a flat black factory helmet. But I didn't know the part about them "timing out", as you say, that is very interesting. But this one I painted here is going to be a shelf-sitter for display and decoration. 😉👍

@@DuncanCustomAirbrush Hey D, 28 Years …. 3 Continents….11 Countries…..ya see some things you can never “unsee”…..I am SOOO glad you got the “tone” in that as it does get so difficult to get though that I am saying this from the heart vs “know-it-all” tude, which no one likes that person LOL! Thank for responding as it would sit on my mind for too long. I’m THAT NP. LOL….it’s in my DNA.
Yes, the “timing out”….next time you go in to a bike shop (preferably HD or Vic or Indian….a bit biased LOL) ask one of the guys or girls about the date of manufacture and their “expiry” POLICY for the BARAND of helmet and even sometimes the model. Some are different as there is a minimum “life” with DOT Regs.
If they say they do not know or they have never head of it. Contact the manufacturer and ask about the “expiry” and even use the “timing out” phrase as it all depends on how you ask and whom you ask. Sometimes Manufacturers will be “vague/tricky” in their comment or they go into “legalese” but you SHOULD get a response of some kind with their “policy” on them timing out or expiring. If you hit a wall…..send a 2nd email saying that you were “confident that they would have a timeline of some kind for the make _____ model_____ but that’s ok, you’re REALLY confident that the DOT will have the information you are looking for.”. THAT lights a fire under their butt as they must by FED Law give you the Manufacturer date of make and a “DOD” (date of death-lol-sorry sick nurse humor but I am not sure what each manufacturer uses for their language and they DO use different language) all of them are so terrified of the litigious society that we live in that they do not want to “say” tooooo much but the “I’m telling the DOT on you” usually works.
Sadly, the reason I know TOO much about this is due to my vocation. I have worked with some of the best Trauma teams in the world in both MB Racing and Formula 1 as well as NHL. You get to learn a LOT about helmets and face masks. A LOOOTTT. Hence the painting them and the deterioration as well as the warranty voiding once you paint them unless they are painted by an “authorized” paint place which you would have to call the Manufacturer for the specific helmet to get that info as it is a nepotistic industry at best, and an expensive one for “Custom” work. So, if anyone ever has the intention to buy one to paint then it is a GOOD idea to ask the manufacturer about the warranty regarding that. Am guessing it is instantly void. I have even been called to testify for a helmet that we had to CUT off a driver that had sponsorship stickers on it and was asked if the “Cut-Saw” felt like it went through the helmet “smoother” where sticker were than were stickers were NOT. SERIOUSLY? I just looked at the Litigation Lawyer and then the Judge and burst out laughing (highly unprofessional to say the least) because WTH kind of question is THAT. Ask me if I felt that the Bone Saw went through SMOOOOTHER on a 25 YO or an 80 YO…THAT I can answer. A helmet with or without stickers…C’mon. Yes, I have many many life stories that would make you laugh, cry and 🤢…. One day i will finish that book. 13 chapters away but time is a precious commodity….one that I do not have a lot of at this point in my life.
Lastly my talented and wonderfully caring friend…..have you or do you know about “setting down” or in normal person terms “dropping” your brain bucket? THAT is another one to ask whomever you purchase a helmet from. What is their policy or warranty on being in an accident or dropping your Helmet? Most will say buy a new one. Period. Which is really the correct answer because what is your brain worth to you….🤷🏼‍♀️…..but some will say that if you have just superficial scratches on it, you are good to go, but if there are ANY that cut or break the “sealant” or the “finish” (matte in your case, shiny in the un-cool peeps LOL…love the matte as well)….and you know the look of a helmet when you drop it from ohhh say off a counter top in the shop to a concrete floor….if it cracks that finish, it is usually void but again, manufacturer warranty.
So…all of this is about protecting yourself (G-d FORBID that you EVER NEED TO KNOW) in the case of any MVA. If your helmet is seized by us or LEO at scene then they are going to look at it with a fine tooth comb (depending on the City/County and LEO Dept…..) and then it may be sent to DOT for full examination. Then it is determined if the damage on the helmet is from THAT MVA or from daily “wear and tear”….if there are a ton of “old dings” on it then it is usually deemed “void/timed out” and if there is a suit for any reason that involves that brilliant grey matter, you COULD be SOL, sadly. Again with the litigious mind set of North America….
Ok kiddo, there is your brain bucket info for the day. As “they” say, you only have to learn one thing a day and you have had a successful day! Go home, your day is done and it is all yours now. LOL! 😂
I hope that opens up some “down the 🐇 🕳️ “ surfing for you but do remember that it is usually Manufacturer based and can even go as deep as the Model and I have heard of policy changes with the YEAR of make. It was to do with the Paint COLOR used on a specific model one year (and yep, it was HD IF I knew ANYTHING…erhem). So, YOU put YOUR 02 Mask on FIRST or you can do nothing for anyone else. The law of survival.
Be well, stay safe and keep on doing what you do……making us a little smarter and being an amazing muse as well as the literal LOL that I do (with the odd “snort” that makes my Hubby double over laughing at me) especially when you do that STARE right into the LENS of he camera thing. I swear that gets me every time. From my ♥️ to yours, I appreciate you and what you do. I truly love to see your viewer numbers RISE as nothing beats watching someone become very successful at what they LOVE to do! NOTHING! 🙏🏻♥️

Was thinking the exact same thing. I've been riding on and off for almost 40 years, and one of the first things I learnt was that you never know the condition of a second hand helmet. They are designed to protect you ONCE from a fall... that's it. The integrity of the helmet is compromised after this, and WON'T PROTECT YOU AT ALL AFTER THIS. It's not worth the risk of permanent brain damage (I've seen this, and it's not pretty. It's also very sad)..... great comment.
