I've been working through the transition from line art to colored art and this has been very informative, you covered a wide range of materials, drew with each, and gave insight the entire way through. great stuff.
When I try to paint textures it never really comes out like... well the texture I wanted to paint, it mostly looks like a flat colour with a few texture brushes over it. I get it where the lighting comes from it's lighter and the other shadow side is darker, reflected light etc. i get that, but when I try to apply all these things it still looks... ununified. You can recognise the thing but it never looks right, my textures just all look like dirt on the surface. I use the standard krita brushes but I should be able to create anything with that.
I enjoy using the Art of Ayan brushset for Procreate, a Ghinbli brushpack, standard round, Mike Mcain and Wootha's packs. I mostly default to a couple workhorses, and pull out specialty texture or shape brushes in specific scenarios.
