2022 Honda Civic Si - What's actually different??

  • The 2022 Honda Civic Si is here and let’s get right to it, it looks absolutely fantastic.
The 2022 Honda Civic Si will only be available as a four-door sedan meaning you can’t have it with the regular Civic hatchback design.
It does take some bits and pieces from the old hatchback Type-R though and one of the more important ones is the fantastic 6-speed manual transmission.
Honda isn’t playing around here and they’re really doing their part in saving the manuals by making it the only option for the new 2022 Si.
Another feature carried over is the Type R's rev-matching feature, which some people like and some don’t. If you’re not a fan of it, no need to worry, it can still be turned off completely.
The 2022 Honda Civic Si is powered by the same turbocharged 1.5-liter I-4 as before, however it now puts out 200 horsepower and 192 lb-ft of torque.
This in combination with a relatively light car and the six-speed manual should make for an engaging driving experience.
The transmission isn’t completely the same as the old one. Honda did a bit of tweaking to shorten the shift throws by 10% and also improve the overall shift feel.
The old transmission was an absolute joy to use and I look forward to seeing how this new one feels.
As we’re used to with Civics the new 2022 Si is front-wheel drive only.
What about the wheels? The plantedness and visual connection to the ground? Well the Si comes standard with all-season 235/40 tires and optional summer tires all around with unique Si matte-black 18-inch rims.
They don’t look too bad and I bet they’re very comfortable. But those are definitely the first to go if I bought one of these. For my personal taste, I want more connection to the ground than these wheels give me visually.
The biggest news on the inside is the 9-inch infotainment screen with wireless Apple CarPlay and Android Auto which are connected to a 12-speaker Bose stereo system.
You could buy the previous generation Si for as little as $26,000 and even though this new model is expected to be more expensive than that, it won’t be by much.

It's pretty crazy seeing the split in the community. I think it can definitely go both ways but I like the "boring" look more. It's like a sporty accord which looks cool to me. I can see how the design is a let down for other people though. I really wanted a 10th gen and now I would be happy with this. Not sure about the red around the honeycomb vent, I'd get that wrapped or maybe it's an easy to pop off part.
Now I can't get either generation cause car prices are dookie.

I liked that Honda went back to a ‘traditional’ yet identifiable design, but with a few details, side view reminds me of last gen Kia and at the back, those taillights are an oversized version of the ones in the 7th gen Jetta, as for the Si version, looks like something you can do with their own parts catalog, nothing with a wow factor apart from the orange color, let’s wait for the type R.

I like the new Honda Civic, but what disappoints me about the Si is the fact that it doesn’t look any different from your standard base model. Of course it has a different exhaust and little deck lid spoiler but that can be easily changed in the aftermarket. I would have incorporated some fog lights, a hood with a little bit of a bulge to make the front end look a little more aggressive and quad tips for the rear. Also, I don’t know if I am missing the point on what this car is trying to be but I drive a car from 2008 with 253 HP and the fact that this is 50 HP less for a sport model is kind of disappointing. I think 275 HP would have been good and the Civic Type R should have had 350.

    • @mohammadkamran5862
      @mohammadkamran5862 2 ปีที่แล้ว

Definitely. Especially since Honda is adding Turbos to their Engines. The SI should’ve been around 250HP. They shouldn’t have gone down to a 1.5L rather just should’ve kept the K20 with a turbo to give it the proper power. 15 years and they’re still at 200hp. 🤦‍♂️

I think people are really disappointed with the lower power figures because we see Hondata easily pushing past those figures a generation ago. No one was delusional enough to expect 300 HP, but I think alot of people wanted 230 HP. So 200 HP, even if it is more usable, is still a huge let down.

I like the standard model wheels more than the blacked out Si wheels. Although I think blacking out everything is past overdone now. OEMs do tend to pick up trends when they are passed due. :) Problem GM has with some of their sport trims black out too much see the Corvette. The black trim around the window is ok. The front grill change I think it's better than the standard model and maybe should be considered for Civics across the board. But the blacked out mirrors....eh leave it body colored. The lip spoiler on the trunk would be better probably body colored too.
Should be a fun car. Wish they did that Acura Metallic Red too.
Oh and I agree with the tail lights comment. When I first saw pictures thought they were too big. Then I saw one on the road and thought it's not so bad. They have grown on me.

That's all well and sound good until you see what's on offer beyond the northern borders 😳
On the outside alone, the Canadian Honda Civic Si comes with fog lights. It also has parking sensors at the front and at the back, while the LED turn signals are already integrated on the side mirrors. Of note, the US version has only one advantage over the Canadian Civic Si, and that's the availability of the $200 High Performance Tires (HPT) upgrade, which isn't available north of the border.
Inside, the baffling changes continue as the Canadian Civic Si comes standard with a 10.2-inch TFT display for the instrument that changes depending on the drive modes. It also has shift lights, while the cabin gets heated seats, front and back, and a heated steering wheel.
Climate control's also dual-zone for the Canadian Civic Si, while the rearview mirror is auto-dimming and integrated with a home link for garage door integration. There's a wireless smartphone charger, finishing the list of specs that the US Civic Si doesn't have.
This is fine since not all of these features are coveted ones for the US market - until you learn that the Canadian Civic Si is actually cheaper than the US counterpart.
Of note, the Civic Si in Canada starts at CAD $33,150😃😃😃

It's easy for a company to justify why horsepower, or an increase in it, is not necessary for a car to be fun and engaging to drive. Fact is, the Si needs more power - not less power. I was hoping the new Si could have at least 20-25 additional horses. It needs it! And Honda can do it AND make it engaging and fun too.
The proof is in the Type R. I can guarantee that Honda will bump up the HP for that vehicle and they can make it more fun and more engaging to drive. If Honda can make a 300+ hp, fwd car that has been hailed as one of the best handling, most fun cars to drive, they can surely put a little more power in the Si and still make it a fantastic car to drive. But instead, Honda reduces the hp by 5 and claim that it will be a better, overall car.
    Give me a break!
