The 2022 Honda Civic Si Is A Type R Lite For Budget Minded Enthusiasts

  • The #HondaCivicSi has had a very long 35 year history in America and for 2022, the new #CivicSi borrows a lot of tuning and suspension parts from its more hardcore brother the #CivicTypeR. While the new #Si doesn't have as much power as the #TypeR, #Honda has finally given it the handling and precision to make it feel more special than a regular #HondaCivic Sport.

Really surprised by the way the new Civic Si drives. The old one felt like a slightly faster Civic Sport trim, while this one feels more like a Type R minus 100 HP. Gets us pumped for the reveal and drive of the next-generation Civic Type R next year!

@@ryanhughes4350 Excellent question. Ignoring dealer markups, do you go for this at $27.5K USD or for the Elantra N (we don't know pricing on that yet, bet let's estimate maybe $32.5K)? Is it worth another ~$5K for 75 more HP, heated seats, bigger brakes, adjustable suspension and a fully digital dash?

Sure it has more performance-oriented upgrades, which is nice, but you're not supposed to take away basic features from a car from generation to generation, especially given how amazing the competition is right now (looking at you Koreans).

30 years ago I had a 1986 Honda Civic Si, starting my love affair for Honda. I've had 7 Honda automobiles over the years. Sadly, for me the cars just don't seem to have "it" anymore. I was very interested in the previous Civic Si and test drove it. I returned to the dealer immediately asking them if the car was broken? The engine would rev hang. The salesman said no, that's "normal" and for emission purposes. OK, here are the keys, I'm not interested. I bought a 2017 Accord Coupe V6 instead and this will be the last Honda I ever buy. I daily a 2012 and 2017 Accord Coupe V6. The 2012 at my Az home and the 2017 for Chicagoland. After the quality issues I've endured with these cars in order to have cars I find attractive, Honda sold me a Lexus for my next car. Love affairs, sadly, tend to come to an end in disappointment.

My first was 85 CRX and then I bought 1998 DX Hatch and 2000 EX-G. Even RSX Type-S couldn't compete with the dynamics of my tuned 98 DX Hatch, so I vacationed from Honda until my current 2017 LX Sedan 6MT. No reviews on this model (and still no reviews) but I was pleasantly surprised. I was hoping that Honda would play on this base model, since it checks all the boxes. 11th Type-R is a potential, but it's not going to be as fun as my current Sedan on the streets (helps when you can be a hooligan, but still burn like an economy car). Like you, this may be my last Honda.

It's not just Honda, it's literally all of the Automakers. GM and Ford won't produce anything but shitbox trucks for us, but will sell nice cars to the Chinese. The German companies charge us an extra 10-11% after accounting for the CAD to USD exchange rates while also screwing us of basic niceties such as the correct steering wheel for the damn car (Audi, looking at you). And then there's Honda, which screws us of entire bodystyles so they can sell an up-market version of the same car for their crappy US-focused pseudo-luxury marque and do shit like this because they think we'll balk at an extra $500 on a car we're all going to finance over 60 months anyway.

@Kay Bee it’s going to be closer to $41k here in Canada vs $34k for the Civic SI. I just think Honda could do so much more with this car- better brakes, more than 10 additional HP over the Touring? Yeah, I get the power band and such, but still? There is allot of car with the N; adaptive dampers, that exhaust pop alone is worth additional $$
