- Welcome to today's video, where you saw the renovation of a French ornate meat rotisserie.
Grilling is one of the very popular ways that has a rich history. Grilling dates back to prehistoric times. The first evidence of barbecuing dates back to the Stone Age, when simple grates made of stones were used.
For a long time, food was prepared only on fire. The design and mechanism of watch spit jacks was introduced around the 19th century. They consisted of various components, many of which played a key role in their proper functioning.
A clock mechanism powered by a winding key drove a system of gears and pulleys that ultimately turned the spit.
The rotation speed was set using different gear ratios, which made it possible to control the baking process.
These devices were commonly found in kitchens and fireplaces where they were used to roast various types of meat.
Automation of the turning process reduced the need for constant manual work.
Their introduction brought a better taste and consistency of the meat.
In addition to their practical function, antique clockwork spit jacks had artistic value.
These small devices often featured intricately carved decorative elements and ornate designs that showcased the craftsmanship of the time. Their ingenious mechanism and artistic workmanship deserve to be preserved and admired.
And that's all for today's video.

Was racking my brain trying to figure out what this device was. With all the decades I've spent cooking meals over an open fire, I should have known better. This was a magical transformation on a very special spit. Very ingenious machine requiring no electrical cord or batteries. Thank you for a fantastic video and thank Veronika for a wonderful description. Have a Blessed week!
I don’t speak or write your language so I always hope my meaning is not lost in translation. I love the way your videos start out: a mystery of devices and parts that as the restoration proceeds the meaning and purpose of the project comes to light. At the end I am always “Oh so thats what it’s for!” That and the historical narrative at the end always makes your restorations enjoyable to watch. Thank you and greetings from America.
Thanks for the comments. I feel exactly as you do with almost every restoration. Am puzzled and out of nowhere, my eyes are opened.
Thank you very much for your kind comment. We love doing it for people like you. Hugs from the Czech Republic.
🤗
Another piece of history saved! Well done and once again thank you for sharing.
Thank you for watching, have a nice day Richard :)
You are both preserving the past by restoration and educating us on how our ancestors used their technology. Thank you!
We are happy, thank you very much for watching our video :)
Superb restoration mate. The replacement of the tooth in the main gear was genius. You are a wizard with your hands mate.
I had absolutely no idea what this device is until the end when your wife described it! The demonstration was helpful also to understand the functions it has. The masterful use of materials to refurbish broken items is exactly what I expected from you. Thank you both for another entertaining and informative video.
Thank you very much Steve for watching and nice comment. Hugs from the Czech Republic.
There is nothing Radek can't restore. I'd love to be a patreon, but you will have to settle for a thumbs up and a comment. Hope that helps your channel. Love your work.
Thank you for sharing this. I've never seen one like this. Great restoration.
I love the work you guys do. The modern world in which we live holds many wonders, but sometimes lacks the style and beauty of common items from decades ago. Thank you for your good work.
Thank you for the beautiful and kind comment 🤗
Not until the very end of the video did I find out what piece of equipment you were rejuvenating. Would like to have one of those when I go camping. Well done, great video. Cheers from 🇨🇦
Yes, it is definitely a great thing for camping. I recommend it. Thanks for watching.
Amazing find, beautiful restoration.
Thank you Nena :)
Radek and Verônica, congratulations on the magnificent restoration.
A hug.
I love this channel! And I love the historical background given at the end of each video 👍🏼👍🏼
As always love your work and especially the gold brushing, it really makes the fine details on the case stand out. Thanks again for sharing this video and I look forward to seeing more of your work. Your friend in Texas Paul. 😊👍👍🙏🤝🫶
Thanks for watching my faithful friend from Texas :)
You two have chosen a most interesting profession showcasing your talents and desire to preserve antiquities. It is commendable work. 👍👍👍
Yes we love antiques, thanks for watching Wiley :)
Radek that was nicely done. Veronica, another beautiful explanation. You are a great team.
Wonderful restoration job you did restoring the spit jack. It looks much better and it works like a charm too. Excellent work as usual. Thank you for sharing.
Beautiful restoration. It's amazing how much of a difference the gold makes.
Nice job. I always like the history you give. Well done.
Wonderful job, noticed the video trickery in cutting out the metal for the handle lever. Great coverage, do like the natural sounds and no background music during the resto. Loved the finish to the wooden handle with perfect aged wear given to the colour. Good piece to camera. Excellent work all round.
Thanks for watching and nice comment :)
Great job!
Bravo maestro Radek.Veliki pozdrav iz Republike Srpske.
Another excellent restoration - your attention to detail is amazing.
Thank you very much :)
Nifty gadget. Well done.👍👏
Beautiful as usual

Thank you so much Mike for watching our video. Hugs from the Czech Republic :)
Oh my day is made! Needed a lunch break while sanding the desk I'm refinishing, and what shows up? A Veradona video!
Such a cool restoration, I had no idea how you would fix that broken tooth in the 'clock work', but you did a brilliant job. As always, your artistic side comes through in making it not only functional, but beautiful. (^.^)
And I just LOVE hearing Veronika explain the device, such a wonderful presence and so clear.
Thank you yet again for posting! You all just make the world better.
Very cool, nice job again!!!
Beautiful restoration!
Thank you so much :)

Relógio de cozimento, eu nunca imaginaria o que era, sempre aprendendo com vocês.
You always have the coolest stuff to restore thanks guys
It's getting harder and harder to find things I haven't done before 😕😉 Thanks Robert :)
Spectacular restoration.
see that this equipment still exists today in an improved form, electrically, etc... however, nothing current was invented, but rather innovated, and you are part of that by restoring pieces like this. hug to you
Thank you very much for watching our video. And an encouraging comment.
I have a feeling I saw this episode a couple of years ago.
Still the same result, look awesome!
It probably wasn't my case, I did this subject for the first time, but I'm glad you took the time to watch my video. Thank you.
Love these videos!
I'm glad, thank you Raymond :)
Once again amazing skills at work!
Thank you very much for watching Gary :)
Well done again Radek, I've joined your channel and thank you Veronica for the tremendous history lesson, can I point out Veronica the clockwork mechanism not only made it easier to spit roast meat, it also gave the man more time to drink beer.🍺
Great Work!! That looks Amazing!!👍
Thank you so much Charity :)
Good afternoon from Southeast South Dakota 😊
You two are amazing. I love your artistic craftmanship as well as your presentation of the history of the items you restore. Thank you!,
Thanks for the positive comment :)
Wow! You find the most interesting things to restore! And I love how you gently persuade the stuck parts to cooperate with you! Never too much force, only as much as is required! Bravo!
Thanks for watching and nice and kind comment 🤗
Как всегда очень интересная , кропотливая реставрация. Интересная техника. Спасибо за ваше видео, лайк однозначно 🙏💕,
Nice work as usual, congrats
I never would have thought it was a rotisserie mechanism. I thought it was a timer, only bigger.
Such a spit, properly adapted, could remove the blanket from the sleeping person early in the morning.
Hello Radek and Veronica beautiful peis of history beautiful restoration beautifully restored good job guys well done see you at the next project

Thank you Annette :)
Fantastic restoration again my friend. I love how you can fix or replace broken parts. They always look like they were always a part of it. Until next time.

Nice job well done
Thanks for watching :)
Until the end I had no idea what it could be. Nice piece and good work as allways.
We are pleased with this, friends, thank you for watching our video.
I was a Navy photographer in the mid 70s. In camera repair school they had a 16mm movie camera with a wind-up spring. If you failed to run the camera until the spring fully unwound you'd fail the course. The spring had the power when wound up to punch a hole in a metal waste basket. Lots of people failed out of that course. Seeing that spring brought back memories.
Wow interesting. Thanks for your comment.
Imagine toasting marshmallows with that.
Granted, some people think half of the fun of eating campfire marshmallows is setting them on fire and nearly taking out your cousin's eye with a flaming hot lump of sugar.
Прекрасная реставрация! И такой необычный предмет.
opět vynikající a nádherná práce. Vaše práce jsou úžasné.
Děkujeme mnohokrát :)
That is amazing. Thank you for the wonderful restoration and the preservation of history. I love your Chanel.
I am very pleased, thank you very much :)
Mais um belo trabalho. Feliz semana a voce Radek e a Veronica , abracos do Brasil. Niels.
Mesmerizing content. I am in awe of your skill and quite envious of all your tools. Thanks SO much for the video. It always makes me anxious to take something apart which is so technical and with so many tiny parts. I suppose the video helps, in case you forget. But, still... Amazing and thanks again.
Yes, exactly as you say, the video will help. Without it, a person would probably take longer to put together an unknown thing. Thanks for watching.
That was a fantastic restoration! Great skill and a lot of work - but up to your usual excellent standards 👍 I particularly liked how you "relic-ed" the casing and the handle. And of course the replacement plaque was perfect - the icing on the cake 👍😁
Thank you very much Jason for the beautiful and encouraging comment. Hugs from the Czech Republic :)
Parabéns! Belíssimo trabalho!
Muito obrigado 🤗

Thank you Debra. As for grilling, yes, it's a great thing, but there's nothing better than turning your own fork with a skewer over the fire, such a weekend early evening relaxing with the family :) Have a nice day :)
I think you are right! Sounds lovely! Have a good evening! :)@@VeradonaRestoration
