Old Enterprise - Restoration

Welcome to today's video, this time we have a beautiful cast iron hand grinder from Enterprise Manufacturing Company that was destroyed in transit.
The owner of this mill wanted to preserve the original condition as much as possible.
The mill is from the end of the 19th century and was manufactured by the American company Enterprise Manufacturing Company in the state of Pennsylvania.
The company was founded in 1864 and operated until 1956 when it was bought by the Silex company.
The company produced a large number of different grinders in different sizes and for grinding different raw materials such as coffee, corn, shells, bones, meat and others.
The grinder is 30 cm high, has two large wheels with a diameter of 22 cm with spokes resembling petals. One wheel is equipped with a wooden handle.
A cast-iron body is placed between the wheels, the upper part of which is a hopper, in the middle part there is a hinge, and when opened, the grinding mechanism is revealed, which is attached to the axis between the wheels.
In the lower part there is a drawer for the ground raw material.

As a small child my mom would send me and my big sister through the woods to this little ole store by an old dirt road to get her coffee and bread. It was run by a old couple who owned it for years, the woman made her own bread for customers, I remember her having one of those machine sitting on the countertop, and the smell of warm bread and the coffee grinding always smelled so good to me. Your beautiful restoration brought back a wonderful memory I had almost forgotten thank you! :)

It's always nice to see someone welding cast iron. People act like welding cast iron is a black magic or impossible. It's not it just requires a little heat treating and cooling time. I'm always glad when I see someone do it. It helps to dispell the myth!

Thank you very much. But on the other hand, I have to defend them a little. I don't always manage to weld everything cast iron this way. It depends on how much carbon the cast iron contains. For example, heated cast iron parts on the stove are quite a problem. On the other hand, I would say that 85% can be welded :)

Thank you Harry, the current owner was at our place after unpacking the package that was sent, he was quite surprised. The carrier distinguished himself. Since a complaint abroad is quite complicated, we chose the repair route.

very beatiful spesimen! i can see the interior mechanisem is perfecct! probably was not used much since it was brocken during transfer! the Restoration is ideal! especially the Welding and the Paint job that totally transformed it from a Bland Soviet Hospital style White metal Grinder into a beatifully perfect Antique! it would break my Heart though too see it used domestically! it is a work of Art belonging to a Museum, thanks alot!
