Sealing for cans - Restoration

- Refurbishing old can openers is a great way to give them a new look and functionality. In this video I will show you how to renovate shutters and bring them new life.
Surface preparation: Start by removing all old paint and dirt from the surface of the shutter. Test for lead in the paint first to avoid contamination of the abrasive in the sandbox. If the paint is contaminated as in our case, first use an old paint remover to remove as much of the contaminated paint as possible. Then you can put the parts in the sandblasting box. Make sure to clean the surface thoroughly and get rid of all dust.
Damage Repair: If the shutters are damaged or have cracks, it is important to repair them.
Coating: Before applying a new coating, it is important to prepare the surface of the shutters. Use a quality primer that will ensure better adhesion of the new coating. Apply the primer to the clean and dry surface of the shutters and let it dry.
Coloring: Choose a color that matches the overall design of the room or window to which the shutters are attached. Use a quality paint designed for metal surfaces and apply it evenly to the shutters. You can use a brush or spray gun. Don't forget the outer and inner sides of the closures.
Finishing: After applying the paint, let the shutters dry well. Then you can put them back together. Make sure all parts of the can opener are properly positioned and fully functional.
Refurbishing old can openers can be a fun and satisfying project. With a little work and care, you can give your shutters a new look and extend their life.

Welcome to today's video where you saw the renovation of an old can opener.
This can sealer is from 1955.
Many of us certainly think that food preservation belongs to the modern age.
However, probably few people know that it was the French Emperor Napoleon Bonaparte who announced that he would pay a reward of 12 thousand francs for the discovery of a way to keep food fresh for a longer period of time.
It was succeeded in 1809 by the French confectioner and chef Nicolas Appert, who developed a preservation method.
The first cans were not made of tin, but of glass, where the food lasted for 4 months.
The classic tin can was invented in 1810 by Pierre Durand, who lived in England and presented it there for consideration by King George.
The can was approved. In 1812, the first production of canned food was started.
Cans thus became an essential part of soldiers and sailors and very quickly reached households where they still have their place today.
And that's all for today's video.

Very cool! In today's world, we don't even consider how we arrived at the "modern" convenience of a can. Your restorations are not only wonderful to watch, but they are also very educational. Thank you.
Thank you very much for the lovely comment. Hugs :)
Canning changed the way saved food for longer shelf life especially on long sea voyages and expeditions. Unfortunately, early tin cans had there seams sealed with lead which, over time, leached into the food as we saw from the Franklin expedition . Modern cans have no such issues and many are coated with a ceramic.
Yes, we know!
Thank you for adding the information.
It’s so satisfying seeing abandoned machines being brought back to life and fulfilling their purpose once again. Thank you!
I am really pleased, thank you very much :)
Before I watched this video I didn't know how home canning was done. To a 50's & 60's child, canning was boiled glass bottles filled with fruit mainly. It was while I was stationed in Germany in the 80's that I came across this type of canning. But with my limited German vocabulary I didn't really know how this was done. Now thanks to you it is clear. Thanks so much for the free education you provide with your videos. And thanks for sharing this video and look forward to seeing your next production. Your Texas friend Paul. 😊
@@paulorth2251 Thank you my friend for your positive comment. Hugs from the Czech Republic.
Always a great surprise. What a beautiful piece of art that can still be used today.Blessings
Showing the canning process was cool in & of itself but showing how you could reuse the can was mindblowing. Thanks, Veronica. Radek, another masterful restoration. Excellent filming as well. Thank you both for a very entertaining video.❤
That part was so cool! I had wondered what those extra bits were for. Cool tool, great resto, and informative demo!
Yes, the machine is amazing, versatile, but much too big for an ordinary household. It won't fit in the drawer. Lol Thanks for watching :)
Hello ! Very interesting and educational restoration! Thank you for your work!
What a nice piece of machinery, glad you saved it from the scrap dumpster.
I'm glad, thank you.
Good seeing your use of lubrications and gentle applied force to remove most parts. The fractured component was unexpected but not your fault. This restoration was masterful as always. Thanks for sharing this insightful video.
Wishing you and your family a blessed week filled with gentle seasonally appropriate weather and restful evenings together. Peace
Thank you so much for your kind and encouraging comment. Hugs from the Czech Republic.

Thank you so much for watching :)
Hello Radek and Veronica beautiful machine beautifully restored a lot of history good job friend
I am glad that you liked the machine. Have a nice day, friend of the victims from the Czech Republic.
What’s fascinating how you dismantle and the reassemble with not one screw left over, great job😅
I can’t, for the life of me, figure out how you can get everything put back together and in working order. I’m fascinated by your videos. Good job!
I shoot everything on video remember? Lol. Thank you very much Linda :)
Excellent work. I love your magic finger weld 👏👏👍
Another stylish renovation of Can Machine.
Thank you very much. Jerka :)
What a clever machine. Great job and demonstration.
Yes, the machine is perfectly solved. Whoever came up with it was a class 👍Thanks for watching Harry :)
Very nicely done. My mother used to preserve food. Almost a lost art, these days.
Yes. It's quite practical and fast. Thanks for watching Stephen :)
My great aunt, Thelma Agnes, worked at a hand crank canning company producing cans for cooking oils. 👍👍👍
Great video. Love your channel Mike from Florida.❤️❤️❤️❤️👍👍👍👍

Hello again, my favorite restorers. Been sick. Just caught up! I've got to learn that finger flick welding technique!
We're sorry, I hope it's all right now?!

Love your work as always also the history lesson.keep them coming please!!!!!
Yes, thank you very much. We will try 😉🤗
Very interesting machine and a wonderful restoration!
Thank you so much :)
Great resto Mrs Veradona
Thank you so much Paul :)
It looks great and you did a wonderful job restoring it as well!!!!
I enjoyed your video so I gave it a Thumbs Up

VR Very nice work and thx for the demonstration.. I had no idea that the cans could be resealed.. That could be handy to have around the house... Thx for bringing us along on another restoration...Hope all is well with you and your family.. God Bless you and your family.. Take care my friends...
Yes, it's amazing. Thanks for the nice comment Gary :)
That is a really neat machine! Beautiful work!
I really do, thank you very much for watching :)

Me encantó ver un sol azteca! Saludos desde México!
Gracias :)
Merci beaucoup d'avoir regardé :)
Wow! What an interesting presentation of a can sealer and how it was designed to cut down a can size and to seal a old/new opening. Thanks you two for an excellent refurabration and educational background presentation of how it came about.
Yes, it's a fantastic machine, but it was probably designed for some small farm or cannery. It is quite large for an ordinary household. Thank you for viewing.
Absolutely incredible restoration. That came out beautiful and useful. I've seen many videos of people from the mountains of Ukraine still using the small ones that screw under a table to can for the winter. I hope you and your family are doing well. I think about you quite often, my friends. ~Kevin
Wow, that's nice of you, thank you. Hugs for you Kevin :)
Perfect AGAIN and AGAIN! Veronica stay always so beautiful!💋❤️💋

👍👏👏👏👏.your skills are so amazing it just blows my mind 🤯.you are so amazing and talented 👍👏🇺🇲
Thank you very much James :)
Beautiful restoration. You have done a great work. 👏👏
What a wonderful machine and an outstanding renovation Radek & Veronika, well done! @Bender13 is right - early English attempts also at canning food for Arctic and Antarctic exploration spoilt the contents of the cans by closing the cans with solder that contained lead. Captain Robert Falcon Scott's expedition was one that killed the participants slowly through lead poisoning.
Thanks for watching Nick. I had heard about that incident with the sailors a long time ago. Hugs to you and your family :)
Good morning from Southeast South Dakota
Good morning from the Czech Republic.
Amazing work. You do come across some really interesting stuff/machines
Jako vždy je práce mimo chválu. Ale zvolená barva byla špatná. Přesto jste nejlepší a nejzajímavější kanál o restaurování. Dívám se na tebe s potěšením. Všechno nejlepší. Pozdravy z Ruska.
Děkuji mnohokrát :)
Up until i saw the date i was thinking that considering the amount of lead on that machine, it could have come from the company that supplied the Franklin expedition...
(Nice restoration by the way 😉)
Thank you very much :)
Amazing Restoration 👍🏻👍🏽👍
Thank you so much :)
That thing is great for recycling used cans, just cut off the old seam and make a new one, never seen that before!
Great job on the renovation!
👍👍👍
Yes, if different diameters of lids are available, it can certainly be done repeatedly on different diameters of cans. Anyway, it is a great helper. Thanks Horst :)
Great restoration to a wonderful piece of history. Thank you I find these videos fantastic and informative. Some items I have seen and used in the past but sure love your channel. 👍🏼👍🏼
We're really happy about that. Thanks for the encouraging comment David :)

Very cool machine, and great restoration!
I'm glad, thank you very much :)

A very interesting video. 👍
Pretty damn cool😁👍. Though I wish you would have shown the repair on the broken car iron part. 😁👍
Yes, this probably would have been the most interesting and original content in this video. You just summarised it with a flick short cut. I would I loved to see the processs. What metal? What process? What tools used? Thanks for your videos.
OK, I'll do better next time :)
@@VeradonaRestoration it's all good, I understand that sometimes you have to cut content to make the video interesting but not 3hrs long lol... you could make the process of repairing stuff like that onto a short too 😁👍. Anyway great resto 😁👍

I sure learn a lot today //Granny USA
Nice to hear that, thanks Joan :)
Another top notch restoration
I'm glad Andy, thank you :)
Wow such a awesome piece of history ! I am at awe on how many parts go into this machine ! I had no idea of the history of the cans or makers and openers, so very interesting, so you could actually cut the can down to size and reuse it? Wow gives you a whole new appreciation for what we use everyday! Thanks so much for sharing! :)
Yes, it is a very sophisticated machine. Anyway, whoever invented it was really clever. It is a bit big for a regular household, but what it loses in consistency it gains in functionality. Thanks for watching Debra, hugs from us :)
Ty (hugs) much needed these days. :)@@VeradonaRestoration

I'm trying to fix things I haven't done yet, but with about 180 videos I've already made, I'm pretty narrowed down. Lol. Thank you for watching.
A very unusual item. But another first class restoration of it. Plus excellent demonstration and commentary from Veronika ! Thank you both
We are very pleased, Willie, thank you :)
Radek, again a fantastic job. I guess you had to use the machine fast if you had to close a lot of cans :) Thanks.
Hello from France
beautiful restoration. Lead paint on a tool intended for the food industry, he was not afraid of anything at the time
Lead is only dangerous in vapour form.
Yes, before, these things were not looked at much here. Or rather, they were not known about.
@@johanjanssens4530lead poisoning is also caused by ingestion I provide the link to the apge wikipedia concerning lead poisoning en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Lead_poisoning
I love your video's !! This was AMAZING !! What a cool machine I wish they still used them today . You did a wonderful job restoring this and I love the color . But like I always say I just really enjoy the history of each item you restore I love learning about the invention and the demonstration of each item was used . Fantastic work !! 👍👍
Thank you very much Robert for your kind and encouraging comment :)
a very interesting and mesterious piece of equipment! this Video is one of your best ever! it is very similar to Detective movies where you must watch everything from beginning to end in order to see truth revealed! thanks!
Wow, that's an amazing machine. I've never seen anything like it before. A beautiful restoration. I might be able to get it apart but I'd never get back together... there would be so many leftover parts..., 🙃.
Lol thanks for the funny comment.

A unique item with the same extraordinary skill. Awesome restoration and great conclusion.
Yes, it really is a fantastic machine and works absolutely beautifully. Thanks my friend :)
What a funky awkward contraption. But, it works well for what it was designed to do. Anyway, good job on what struck me as a complicated restoration and the background history of the device.
Thank you :)
Great video, thank you for showing 🥰. Take care of each other life is short 🥰.
Yes, thank you :)
Another beautiful Radek and Veronica restoration, the can sealing machine, looks great.
One thing I found strange, because this time Radek, was not putty, removed the burrs, and sanded like the other times, so the painting was perfect.
Every customer has different wishes for renovation. And I always respect them. That's why every renovation is different. Thank you for watching Jose Luiz :)
Remarkable restoration job. It looks much better and it works like a charm too. Excellent work. I have never seen anything like that can sealing machine.
