my first lorry only did 28mph flat out but its what they did and there was nothing faster but a few years ago i collected an old erf fire engine for a collector and it bought back memories of 28mph and you crossing tower bridge also brought back memories of my regular trips to the smoke,i can see your a hard working lad and your proud of what you do and so you should be,i enjoy your videos lad as i enjoy anyone saving old classic vehicles,i am looking forward to the work on the swb bedford coach starting.
What a story, in hindsight glad it's over and worked out! RT 1702 at 24:22 on 192 is a route I used to take to go to Brook Hospital, Shooters Hill. RT's struggled to get up Eglington Hill. Interesting story.

That was really nice, Pete. Enjoyed every minute of it, especially the crossing of Tower Bridge. At the risk of sound like a Fogey (i.e. old), it's nice to hear someone using the word "iconic" correctly, rather than the normal tantamount to word-abuse usage in ad-copy: Gucci/Prada/Burberry's iconic new perfume... Another fantastic video Pete, may of said it before but my Dad drove RM's out of Peckham and Plumstead before becoming Blackey from on the buses (yes promoted to inspector) so they hold a very soft in my heart, as do RT's and RF's, he also used to do the speacial weekend coast runs (driving them) down to Margate, Folkstone sometimes Hasting, and that shoot done on Tower bridge brought back alot of happy memory's.

Enjoyable video Pete seeing what happens at these events, when you went to that bus rally did you buy Compo a toy bus to play with, you know how upset he gets if you don't buy him a present
Brilliant stuff, great to see the outdoor events getting back to normal, the fuel stop problems must have been a bit of a nightmare though, especially hoping you can find one that the bus will fit into! Then having to use more of that (very expensive) fuel on a diversion! Brilliant drive over Tower Bridge too! Nice job on the ally protection strips on the second bus too!
Ah the black wall tunnel Is a swear word to me! First month of driving a HGV, never heard of the M25, satnav took my artic through central London, through the black wall tunnel. On the way home, the satnav did the same, but who knew it’s lower coming back the other way?! Well not me, and the hanging concrete bollards peeled the top on my trailer off 😬 what a day! 15 years later, I keep my eyes peeled for height warning signs 😂
It’s really hard being a child in a man’s body sometimes hey Pete I don’t think anyone does it better than you I do feel a bit inadequate now as I only have an air powered rivet gun which is a bit old school these days I did the London bridge toor a few years ago it was incredible Tell that mini moto the sooner he is phased out the better 😂😂😂

Evening Pete , you only prep the pad on the polisher, and you only need about a tenth of the compound you used, plus keep the pad flat, do not use the edge, and work in a cross hatching motion , about a third of the panel size at a time, I’m a full time Valeter and Detailer of 7 years experience, you will find it a lot better finish, and easier going…..when removing the polish👍🇮🇲
@@PeteAndHisBus less is more Pete, the idea is to work the compound , till you get a sheen like almost oily effect as you work it, go to far and it will heat up too much and go dry, also spur the pad with a small soft brush between passes, it cleans the surface off from excess compound, three small pea sized dots of compound per use is plenty, less is more , you want it to work across the paint not clog the pad 👍🇮🇲
22:17 time stamp of this vid on the left i noticed some people posing for a picture, as you went past them. Bet they were well happy with having a classic bus in the pic too not even knowing you coming.
Put all the rivets in the holes loose and un popped to keep alignment as you go, or maybe get hold of some aero engineering type 'klico' or expanding screw thingys to do it ;-)
Expensive, and may not be enough to go round, but for the events industry a lengthened BEA RMA Routemaster with one of the original trailers would be handy. Also for longer distances the Coach/BEA rear axles and poss engine sizes are an advantage.

It might be worth keeping in contact with London Bus Garages (and local ones) for the permission to run the vehicle through their bus wash machines. If going to Tobacco Dock on the return journey swing into Minoires Bus Station for photo ops ( maybe not with Route 38 blinds, people will try to board!)

now if you had converted an RMA or RMC you wouldn't be stuck at 40mph on the motorway but 50. Not holding the trucks up as much. Did you wax/seal the aluminium before affixing to prevent future oxidisation? Have you had people try to board whilst stuck in traffic?
I didn't wax seal, because my buses get a hard life and will probably need re painting before that's an issue haha! Nope not yet. I do have a lock across the bottom deck and a chain lock across the stairs. They get the message!
@@PeteAndHisBus A London coach operator I drove for on occasion had 3 RT's that had been converted to look like 30's buses with open staircases and the front upper deck a couple of feet back from the front. People still tried to board when stopped at lights even with the platform having a strap across it. Public = morons. As my old LT instructor once said " A Fire Engine stopped at a bus stop and people will try to get on it".
You might need a less dusty barn but there must be scope for a conversion of one of the Guy Arab buses (Crosville ex North Wales tourist ones come to mind) in white livery to create downstairs the worlds longest Mr Whippy Ice Cream van serving through all four windows ( actually this is where the more provincial 5 bay window bodies might be better (Cravens RT ?!)
There was a bus company here in Perth Western Australia that had at least two ex London Transport but unfortunately the company was sold I wonder what happened to the two deckers

I'm assuming your bus no longer has it's AEC engine, is the replacement an Iveco or a Cummins unit?

Until I fill up the next time I wont know. Lots no doubt. We do use plastics but they are all recyclable and or bio degradable. Thanks for watching!

@@PeteAndHisBus I might do I drive busses for 11 years here in Perth I always enjoyed driving the articulated busses and I was one of only a hand full of drivers that got to drive the TRIPLE articulated bus ( Scania ) unfortunately the idea never took off

Q. how difficult would installing a fuel gauge? Also, would it run on veg oil?
Not very difficult but to get that tank out is a bit of a mission. Veg oil, not a bad shout! haha
If I remember correctly the tank has a range of about 400 - 450 miles (45 gal.)
@@PeteAndHisBus thinking about it, i'd guess that the depot would refuelled them every night, so a gauge wouldn't have been necessary.
