when trying to clean up a hole after using a hole saw, i use a smaller hole saw and wrap some sand paper around it. you can stick the end of the sandpaper through the slots and it will help to hold it in place.
@@PeteAndHisBus another thought, if you were to make ovals instead of circles, they would fit the curve of the roof better without the need for bending them, this way you wouldn't have the gaps where the lights fit as the should fit flush, you would just need to experiment with a bit of cardboard. just a thought for the next bus you do.
Lovely to see all the hard work of you and papa finally coming to a great ride! Another nice video! loved your talk at the very end! very very well said! YOU are keeping the old Route-Masters on the road! x
That perfect white Citroen GS Estate might not mean anything to you but looked like a perfect clone of the best car I ever owned. I hated that it died of tin worm and had no idea any had survived ukland’s horrendous weather. I almost cried. A 2CV and several BXs later I decided Cit had forgotten about engineering and become content to be French in all the wrong ways so my love affair with the marque died. Thanks for the memories.
Funnily enough the reason I loved it so much is because it actually meant a lot to me too. My dad had the exact car when I was a tiny boy and I remember many holidays in the south of France in it. Ours was orange with brown interior. 😂👍
Pete - Only just started watching your channel and came across it mid-holiday in the Dordogne. Love your style and of course love Routemasters and buses in general ! Glad to be on board with you ! Cheers stew
I used to ride to school on SMK7xxF RMLs when they were new including RML2730 once it moved to UX in 1970. My memory is that the ‘blind box’ in the lower saloon was an illuminated advertisement panel with 2 or 3 fluorescent tubes behind so you could legitimately have put some lights in there behind a translucent screen or message panel and added to the effect.
You’ll have ridden on her no doubt!! Yep the old electric unit was still in there. In practice the downstairs will be working space so there’s no real need for that light up destination box. 👍👍
My dad had a lovely Mini pickup. Why not use the old illuminated ad panel downstairs fora bar menu ? Must say I hated when LT replaced the old interior lights when they modernised the Routemasters. RM 2033 and 2078 escaped this and retained the old interior lights but with new moquete . Much nicer in my opinion.
Another video which is a surprising treat for a friday night. So OCD time, even though you will be able to bend/glue/paint the aluminium disks to the curved ceiling the led light bezel itself won't bend and will always show a gap. So you could use some sealant to cover that bit up, create some foam gaskets for them or even, with the right measurements, 3d print some shims. 3d printers are magic for things like this.
Good to see progress on the Ivecomaster. Those criminals butchering the light arpetures. It was a criminal act deciding to install flouro lighting. These are actually more energy efficient now!
Love your channel Pete, found it about a year ago and finally caught up on all the previous episodes of your amazing fleet of vehicles and rescues. The enthusiasam and symapthetic attention to all these vehicles is infectious and very watchable. The Midget looked amazing at Rustival, top job! Looking forward to the next update on RML 2730... "reload content" 😄
Evening Pete, just got home after visiting friends in North London, looked a better job on those interior lights that what London Transport could ever had done, enjoyed this video update from PETE AND HIS BUS, at the end of each video playing your close theme tune “Hub by Whome”, as think you are one big SUCCESS ⭐️, looking forward to your next film 🍿.
Another great episode… love what you are doing to the lighting! Regarding Gaydon .. I’ve been there in a Routemaster and back .. omittedly only from Amersham & back last Summer to the bus festival in RML2440. Thanks for the mention in your interview at the Rustival event .. yes indeed RML2355 should be “Green” lol! I will try and get to the East Grinsted Running Day Pete … talking of which, as you had your bus at Windsor recently… how about coming to the Amersham & District Motorbus Society’s Windsor Running Day on Sunday 28th July .. to commemorate the 40th Anniversary of the closure of WR garage? Even if you don’t bring your own bus down .. I am sure you will get the chance to drive one of the Green RML’s that will be in service that day.. but of course RML2355 spent from June 1967 until December 1968 based at Windsor Garage .. so she would fit in right at home!
Hello Pete in an earlier vid i suggested you use led downlights because thdy looked similar to original fittings ,they turned out better than expected .
I was 21 in the late seventies when I owned my first car: a Sunbeam Imp! In the late nineties I owned anther Imp and I felt 21 again! Unfortunatly I had to sell a few years later. Hope you can show one sometime!
The Interior "Blind Box" is a "illuminated" advertising panel area - it can have funky lights behind it and say your price list for the day as aide memoire for staff ?
Hi Pete. I've been watching your vids for several years now, and I absolutely love them. So please don't take me for just a critical twat 'cos I have really tried not to be. But here's the thing... Your habit of giving the engine a bootful of revs just before switching off is driving me NUTS! The last thing you are doing before switching off is dumping a good squirt of fuel air mix into the cylinders currently on the inlet stroke, which is not burnt off because you immediately kill the ignition. The piston is by now on the compression stroke and so all valves are closed and so the fuel has nowhere to go but down. So when the engine cools, the fuel condenses out of the air and trickles down the bores. That washes the oil off the piston rings, removing precious lubrication, increasing bore score, wearing out the hone, lessening compression and in general doing a Compo to your lovely classics. And it dilutes the oil in the sump with fuel. In the Mini it's even worse because the gearbox shares the same oil. Please forgive me for being such a snark. Cheers, Mark.
Pete long term that air filter system is rubbish and noisy not practical and exposed to all the weather elements.... if it was any good the manufacturer would of fitted it as standard ........done it all before with the K&N rubbish..... go back to the standard air box system before you cause yourself a large headache and unnecessary outlay of money ....great bus program
Lovely Rustival report in there sir, thank you for coming along.
Don’t you thank me!!! I thank you sir
I had a Mini van in the 1970s, I whizzed around Norwich repairing TVs. Happy days!
Excellent, they’re just great 👍👍
We had one in our mechanics workshop in the 80s. It was used to pick up parts around the city. Everyone volunteered to drive it.
Donald Mackay who went missing in country NSW believed by mafia figures, drove one.
You are the BEST to watch thank you !😊

Another cracking video. Love the light conversions on the bus. Brilliant idea and execution. Fantastic enthusiasm and watchability.
Thanks so much
Blimey mate, your like Houdini getting into plus out of the Mini van and the MG !
😂😂
I know exactly who to ask about wiring on the RM! My father ran the electrical line at Aldenham for the last decade before they shut it down.

Cool, glad toy like it

Next time I’ll bring the bus and Compo will go in the back! Lovely to meet you too 👍👍
The stainless steel defender at Gaydon, wow ❤

nice work on fingering the box, the holes and the rings. pete and his bus, among other things.

As ever, a great episode. Keep up the good work !
Thanks
i'd be inclined to fabricate some sort of spray shield for those filter elements. Tasty bike though.
Thanks
great update.
oddly the silver disks of the lights actually look rather retro.
Yeah I agree. I will paint them though. I think ultimately it’ll look better that way
Love the speedo on the MG Midget.
How fast were you going?
- Oh 50 or 60
You mean 50 and 60
- That'll be the MG time warp
Probably about 40! 😂😂😂

I did, fantastic. Next time bud

loving the new lady garden. Super vajazzle.

The lights where brilliant Pete. Also the wrecked holes where from when they completely refurbished in early 1990s with crap tubes

Why were the holes so hacked up? Love your channel.🥸
When the lights were “updated” in the early nineties the people that did the conversions used very crude tools to remove the old stuff.
