I mean Russia did put up an even greater effort to not chose a song... actually they had a great song and then, voila special operation in South West Russia, in the previously occupied region of East Ukraine by Anti-Russian Notsees. And then the European nations went, no thanks you're not welcome, and then they gave the win to Ukraine, who had the worst entry in Eurovision History since it was founded. Come on Ruslana's entry in 2006 was a lot better. And let's not forget that Ruslana winning meant we got to see Lordi win in 2007. Rock N Roll Angels, we got hard rock hallelujah...

Oh, oh jag ber dig, min älskling ( I beg you darling)

A few more things that will give some more context:
    - Grotesco has a sketch (more like, an entire episode) where they parody an unspecified american drama film and throughout the entire thing they do intentionally incorrect but american-sounding English as dialogue. You can still understand it mostly, its just wrong.
I dont speak russian, but I am pretty sure they are doing some of that in this song too - singing russian-sounding words with some actual russian thrown in.
    - two of the actual russian things thrown in are "goodbye Putin" and "cheers, Lenin"
    - The "national anthem" they burst into briefly at one point is even the old Soviet National Anthem
    - the music that plays when the Prisiadki dancers (the ones that dance almost like Riverdancing(?)) is an old russian melody made famous through its inclusion in the (originally) Russian-made game Tetris.
    - another funny thing about the diplomatic incident this sparked is the interview where one russian spokesperson primarily cites the reason of including a dancing bear into the mix as "perpetuating a stereotype from the 90s" where apparently russian mobsters used to keep pet bears and train them to dance or something? Its funny that they chose that thing to mention in the interview lol

What really made this hilarious was the reaction from Russians😂 I'm old enough to remember visiting the USSR, and right after that era ended in "young new Russia" (think airport security smoking cigarettes and asking "Do you have GOLD in suitcase?!" with stern faces, awkward silence, and breaking down in hilariois laughter "make fanni, fanni, joke!" 😂) and then seeing the transformation. One of my friends literally has the most cohesive extensive collection of recordings of Soviet and Russian pop music post union ever, and that includes footage, and this spoof could not have been more spot on! It went from Alla Pugachova to a twlve yearolds first impression of 80s synthpop with Ziggy Stardust makeup and the kitchest, gayest most fantastical props and costumes and stuff ever imaginable in no time at all, it's actually a section of nerd-cukture unto its own (some of it with pretty cool music in its own way).
This spoof is so benign that Russians being upset by it really demonstrates what a young sissy is. Imagine Americans being crazy upset by all the stereotypical humor about fat American hillbillies and Hollywood airheads and gangsters? No it's not possible bc stereotypes are part of satire, and if you can't take it with a chuckle you're not adult enough for satire period (of course satire is and always was very dangerous in totalitarian regimes, so thanks for very much driving the irony home).
A zillion and one hilarious skits and songs have been broadcasted worldwide on the Orange Mussolini of the west, but a "tingeling" poke at Russia hosting Eurovision makes actual Russian officials go ballistic, hahahaha 😂how's that NOT the funniest thing ever?? 😂

The adding of the national anthem is kinda made funnier because it's one of the first swedish memes that got huge late 90s early 2000s, basically someone just badly translated what the rusdian national anthem sounded as in swedish.
"Tell him heidi looks like a tv-antenna" etc where some of the "translation".

Melodifestivalen is basically a multi week competition with several smaller competions spread across the country culminating in a finale where the swedish contribution to Eurovision is selected (I say that, but there have been a few instances where the swedish winner wasnt the one to go to Eurovision for some reason or another) this was the midway entertainment during the finale. It would easily have won that year if it actually competed.
Some context as to why they wanted to mock Russia and Putin in particular. This was 2009, shortly after the Russian invasion of Georgia in 2008. And russia had recently introduced some legislation to make life tougher for their LGBTQ+ community... and frankly, you cant have Eurovision without the LGBTQ+ crowd.
Russia tried to censor Eurovision when there was gay contributions, but the Eurovision crew put a stop to that. Either you show all of it, or you dont get to show it at all.

Grotesco sketches are mostly more subtle and ambiguous. For this number they had to crank up the stereotypes two notches, so everyone, not only the Grotesco-fans, got it. Had it been Russian, it would have been done (much) more professionally (choreography). I do think that this is one of the best intervals that "melodifestivalen" has had.

The Grotesco song was featured, in february 2009, as a satiric interval act in the Swedish Song Contest, the show that sellects which song we will send to the Eurovision competition. The previous year Russia hade won and was therefore hosting the Eurovision in May 2009. What nobody knew in february was that Russia had planed an interval act at Eurovison on the exact same theme, but with no irony... th-cam.com/video/o9vaL0QfkxE/w-d-xo.html

this wasn't a parody of eurovision, but the national swedish contest to decide the artist to represent sweden in eurovision. it's more important than eurovision itself here in sweden. and sadly this was only an intermission act, that people couldn't vote for, since it was better than all the actual competitors

Yes, and for anyone who is interested, here are a few more bits of trivia about this:
The reason for doing a song about Russia was that Russia, as winners of the ESC (Eurovision song contest) 2008, were arranging the 2009 ESC in Moscow.
And incidently, the song voted to be Swedish entry to ESC 2009 was "La voix" sung by Swedish opera singer Malena Ernman, the mother of Greta Thunberg.

Hello. You liked the video of Sven Melander where he interviewed a little girl and asked her what she wanted most in the whole world. There is a very funny comedy about swedes going to Canary islands to celebrate christmas in the sun, you must se it, it is called Sällskapsresan and has english subtitles or dubbed to english and then it is called the charter trip. It contains all the stereotypes of swedish tourists, Sven Melander and his friend are going to Canary islands just to drink cheap alcohol, because alcohol in Sweden is quite expensive, and very cheap in the Canary islands because it is a free trade area, one couple with a photcrazy husband, his luggage contains of cameras and film, two sisters who are only there to pick up men and get a suntan etc. With a little luck you might find the english version online, Good luck.
