there is no British humour as British is a made-up identity used to diminish the smaller identities in the "union." My country is Scotland, not Britain. Scottish comedy is entirely different to english comedy, our cultures are entirely different and it is at best ignorant and at worst imperialistic to imply otherwise.
@@thevis5465 You do realise that holds true for everywhere, right? Not just Britain? Humour varies wildly from different parts of Sweden as well, yet they’re all part of the Swedish identity. They’re also part of Scandinavian humour. I try to watch shows from every part of Britain, so I know it differs, but there are similarities when you watch it as an outsider. Of course you should be proud of Scotland (you’ve got some absolute brilliant comedians), but to call a foreigner ignorant or an imperialist because I called something from Britain British seems a bit harsh…
@@Blodsten90 The majority of Scots see themselves as solely Scottish and not British, myself included. It's not a term you should use to describe Scottish people in general. I wouldn't call a Kurd an Iraqi for example just because Kurdistan doesn't currently happen to be a sovereign state. Britain is just an island and it has no identity. You can only be English, Scottish or Welsh. Not British.
They grew up on Mothy Python ofc, so its not that hard to feel the brittish/swedish perfect blend throughout. I Highly recommend just watching the serie. I find the music being great but their weakest point of enjoyment according me, the other stuff just surpasses the music stuff greatly.
Compared to monthy python who often dealt with irony sarcasm and the absurd. Grotesco does a semi-good job at following in those footsteps. They're not as great as the Pythons but they're entertaining for sure. I mean I sang a couple of their songs at work last week. Because it was jolly good fun.
Grotesco have made some of the best humoristic sketches we have and since Sweden is so secular and very much against censorship of any kind, no one really cares how far they go and they do go far in some of their work...
Against censorship? What planet are you on? We're against censorship of mockery/satire of christianity. We're all for censorship against all sorts of things, just not that.
Grotesco certainly is a Swedish treasure. I would recommend "Ett kilo mjöl" by them as well. It's freaking hillarious. Also, kind of similar in a way; Nanowar of steel - Valhallelulja. Italian band singing about Sweden and IKEA in a christmassy fashion. :)
You absolutely have to do a video about my favourite sketch with Grotesco, I think it’s called “the trail” or something. In pretty sure you would really laugh on that one😂
You´re a great guy! And Grotesco is great fun. Seen your videos on swedish music as well. You could live in Sweden any time. Greetings from Halmstad /Ulf
Like you said Brittish and Swedish comedy definetely have their similarities. I'm especcialy thinking in the sense of sarcastic humour. Keep it coming, as a Swede i enjoy your content!
You should see if there is any clips from Killinggänget or Galenskaparna with subtitles to react to. They're older, but classics. I'll go search for some, if you don't hear back, it's probably because my adhd made me forget 😅.
th-cam.com/video/r0y9Nm62_JE/w-d-xo.htmlsi=AZ0wh4W_Zjgm59wM Ok, this one might be a bit controversial for some people today, but it's from the nineties, so it was different then. To me it's still a classic :)
No? It certainly is not my friend. That´s just called "Runka". Runka Bulle on the other hand is a very specific way of doing it, a legendary game that every school has it own rumours about. The game of Runka Bulle is when a group of guys stand in a circle, with a cinnamon bun in the middle. Jerking off. And the rules are very simple, the one who finish last lose the game and therefor has to eat the bun. With all the glazing of course. I dont know where it came from and i dont think many people actually has played the game. But it was a story that "Kevins older cousin" told all the younger kids about how Junior High is... A legend/tale/story. I bet there are some people out there who actually has participated in it but i for sure believe that the legend is a lot bigger than the actual "sport". You even hear that in the lyrics of the song. How they describe a game of Runka Bulle. Satan played a game of Runka Bulle with the Lord and Satan tried to cheat by place a clothes peg (en Klädnypa in Swedish) at the Lords knob but the peg flew off and it ended up with Satan having to eat the biscuit/bulle. The soggy biscuit. Then in the second verse Judas was the one who finished last after Petrus and Marcus.
And for the lyrics "never finish last" is literal but the swedish "kommer aldrig sist" could also be translated to "never cums last". So it's a wordplay that get lost in translation. But it's till accurate. :D
Some of the people behind Grotesco made a TV series a few years back called Boy Machine. It's about a 90's boy band that tries to make a comeback in their fourties by competing in the Swedish qualification to the Eurovision Song contest. It is absolutely brilliant but I don't know if it is available with English subtitles though. Anyway, here is a link to one of the music videos featured in the TV show (song sung in English). th-cam.com/video/YbOeqWcXzgA/w-d-xo.html
If you are looking for more comedy gold, but in movie form, there is always Killinggänget. Torsk på Tallin: en liten film om ensamhet (Pimp in Tallin, a small film about loneliness). This one is great, and short. Fyra nyanser av brunt (Four shades of brown). For some reason this is one of my favourite Swedish movies, but it's quite long, but well worth watching.
best sketch with Grotesco is "nicklas och skärpet"...but i do not think its on youtube, but it can be found on other channels...but not sure with subtitles...but by far the best they done, and thats saying alot!
You should check out their fake commercial "Kroatian Invasion". It is a skit based on commersials for Techno Collections on CD that used to air late 90's/early 00's. Absolutely brilliant.
I recommend The Prize by Helt Appropå (completely appropriate) a Swedish comedy group who makes fun of the Nobel Prize. It's a bit longer, 25 minutes to enjoy.
Would be great seeing you react to "Sabaton - En livstid i krig" , especially the live-version in gothenburg, its a swedish metal-band singing about War stories. The live performance is magical and the lyrics are really emotional, which means you need to put on captions. :)
