Everyone in Sweden understands that this is satire showcasing exactly how absurd homophobia actually is. Something similar could definitely have been made today in Sweden, but of course it would have had to touch on contemporary issues, like trans people rather than gays, the war in Ukraine rather than the War on Terror, and Tesla's attempt to crush Swedish unions rather than lamenting that some companies are no longer Swedish. The LGBTQ+ community absolutely loves the song! I've been to three pride parades and I hear it like 4 times every parade and it's always from inside the parade!! This is the swedish LGBTQ+ theme song for sure.
They performed this song on one of the biggest live TV-shows in Sweden (Allsång på Skansen) during pride week and it was fantastic. All I could find now is a 60 sec video on facebook so I guess it's been removed.
We take our humour very serious in Sweden, there's nothing really off limits. And as others have mentioned, British comedy is huge in Sweden(I cite Life of Brian to this day)
Amazingly inaccurate translation though. 5:29: text says "Every crisis", but the song says "every historic schism" It is like he did a reverse abuse of thesaurus and just dumbed down the translation, watering down a lot of the meaning.
I love it how the host is totally like "who are these loonies" at first, but then towards the end it all starts to make sense to even her and she joins in with all of her heart :D
This is not only like British humour, this is a branch of the tree that Monty Python planted. British humour is very much appreciated in Scandinavia. Monty Python, Fawlty Towers, Black Adder, the Young Ones and many other classics are household names in Sweden. We learnt from you. And put a little touch of our own on it of course.
Yes, SVT = Sveriges Television ~ BBC. ( Denmark: DR, Norway: NRK ) We admire British humour very much over here in Scandinavia, so we are often inspired by it. We often laugh at the same things as you do in Britain, watch many of your TV comedies, and we use a lot of irony, sarcasm and dark humour as well - although sometimes you really need to explain it to the poor Swedes more carefully 😂 ( Dane here 😉 ). And Germans typically don't get irony, sarcasm and dark humour at all 😉 - as a certain Basil Fawlty so correctly pointed out. 😂
Yes, SVT is also public media like the BBC. Fun fact, their slogan "godkänd av staten" means "approved by the state" as a mick at it being publically funded , as some people always seems to have a problem with public media outlets posting things other than just news.
The translators def took liberties with the translation though 😆 And yeah, SVT is the equivalent of BBC, lit short for Swedish Television. English and Swedish humour is, or rather was really compatible. Ofc it has all gone to shit for both countries. You mentioned Little Britain, pure genius that show :) Also Mitchell&Webb, Armstrong&Miller (esp check out there ww2 pilot sketches)
Satirical, dark humor with the glimpse of an eye in there obviously. Yes this video is in some senses typical swedish, to some swedes VERY swedish. Grotesco at it's finest from early twothousands I think. Actually they made fun of a few swedish decades with choice of clothes and hair styles, to me quite good visual parody too. 😆
I love this song! I'm from Sweden, and also bi and most queer folks love this song too. It's kind of annoying tho when you see people posting it with a caption like "I miss when we could joke like this" because it's still being played at pride events and stuff like that.
You should see another one they've done which was an interlude in the melody festival (the competition before Eurovision to vote for who will represent Sweden) about 14 years ago. Everyone who saw it was disappointed that they couldn't vote for that song. Know that there was also a lot of political wrangling with Russia after that, they got ridiculously upset. th-cam.com/video/e1ozCWyUlCg/w-d-xo.html&ab_channel=SVT And yes SVT is like your BBC.
In an interview, they told that they got a lot of different opinions over this song. It is ment as satire, but not everyone understood it. Some said "you can't say or think that", others were like "yeah, that will show those gays".
There is a swedish movie made for TV in the late 70;s that I would love to see you react to. It´s called "Vi hade i alla fall tur med vädret" (At least we were lucky with the weather). It´s about a swedish family on vacation with their mobile home. Almost evrything in it has happened in reality but not all of it to the same family. I´ve heard it was broadcasted in the UK back in the days when it was new and british people liked it a lot. I think british and swedish humor is very much alike. We also love Mr Bean, for instance. Hopefully the fiiln is available with english subtitles. I can almost promise that you would laugh yout lips off.
This is still one of the most popular humor songs in Sweden and is generally connected with the LGBTQ movement so yes, you would be able to do it today
I'd say it's 95% correct, there were a few words that were different in the subtitles but they were changed to something that meant the same. only place where the subtitles didn't translate well would be at 2:55 where she sang that her son went hunting with he's gun, in Swedish she said he shot 4 people but in the subtitle it said he killed a dozen. most of the changed words were to make the subtitles flow work with the lyrics
I would say they are pretty horrible. I personally would never translate the word "bög" with "fag" Imo "bög" feels like very very neutral and has a pretty neutral connotation, nowhere near the negative connotation that "fag" has
Grotesco is one of the all time greats, in Sweden especially, but anywhere. I love Monty Python and some of these guys sketches are on par :). Check out their "Ett kilo mjöl" and "Riddarna".

The LGBTQ+ community absolutely loves the song! I've been to three pride parades and I hear it like 4 times every parade and it's always from inside the parade!! This is the swedish LGBTQ+ theme song for sure.
SVT literally shorted translated to Swedish television.
They performed this song on one of the biggest live TV-shows in Sweden (Allsång på Skansen) during pride week and it was fantastic. All I could find now is a 60 sec video on facebook so I guess it's been removed.
Really good humour almost always has a serious undertone
We take our humour very serious in Sweden, there's nothing really off limits.
And as others have mentioned, British comedy is huge in Sweden(I cite Life of Brian to this day)
I saw Grotesco live a couple of years ago and I’ve never laught so hard! This song was one of the highlights
Amazingly inaccurate translation though. 5:29: text says "Every crisis", but the song says "every historic schism" It is like he did a reverse abuse of thesaurus and just dumbed down the translation, watering down a lot of the meaning.
Great fun, just like a lot of British humour. Really loved that show "little Britain" and from older days "not the nine o'clock news". Hilarious fun.
I love it how the host is totally like "who are these loonies" at first, but then towards the end it all starts to make sense to even her and she joins in with all of her heart :D
Yes SVT is like our BBC. Very much based on the BBC model actually. And the tagline below translates as "approved by the state"
This is not only like British humour, this is a branch of the tree that Monty Python planted. British humour is very much appreciated in Scandinavia. Monty Python, Fawlty Towers, Black Adder, the Young Ones and many other classics are household names in Sweden. We learnt from you. And put a little touch of our own on it of course.
It's so over the top that Nobody can possibly get mad at this!😂
It's a Banger!😂👍
Yes, SVT = Sveriges Television ~ BBC.
( Denmark: DR, Norway: NRK )
We admire British humour very much over here in Scandinavia, so we are often inspired by it.
I love how it says aproved by the state at the end
Yes, SVT is essentially our version of the BBC, glad you found our humor funny.
Thanks for a great reaction, Cheers from Sweden ❤
honestly i go back and listen to this atleast 3 times a year and i'm lgbtq+ i dont find it insensetive at all its satirical humour at its best
The translators def took liberties with the translation though 😆
And yeah, SVT is the equivalent of BBC, lit short for Swedish Television.
😆
You mentioned Little Britain. It's been so long since I saw Anne imitate Celine Dion and wish merry Christmas by writing on a wall...
My son sang this song when his teacher ask him why he hadn't done his homework. The teacher hadn't any humour at all. 😂
I love this song! I'm from Sweden, and also bi and most queer folks love this song too. It's kind of annoying tho when you see people posting it with a caption like "I miss when we could joke like this" because it's still being played at pride events and stuff like that.
as a lgbtq swede, i go around singing this all the time
this song is a staple in sweden and it's really funny to see homophobes use it as if the song isn't joing about homophobes
Glad u like it😊 //Sweden
I love that skit, it's how humor should be. I think Louis CK pretty much hit that spot, I like the one where Louis CK learns about the Catholic Church
You should see another one they've done which was an interlude in the melody festival (the competition before Eurovision to vote for who will represent Sweden) about 14 years ago. Everyone who saw it was disappointed that they couldn't vote for that song. Know that there was also a lot of political wrangling with Russia after that, they got ridiculously upset.
th-cam.com/video/e1ozCWyUlCg/w-d-xo.html&ab_channel=SVT
And yes SVT is like your BBC.
I will check it out next, thanks for the suggestion. I need to check out the Melody Festival. When is it next on TV?
"Mello" starts februari 2nd and keeps going week after week after week ad infinitum 😂
🎵BÖGARNAS FEEEEEEEEEEL🎵🎵🎵🎵🎵
In an interview, they told that they got a lot of different opinions over this song. It is ment as satire, but not everyone understood it. Some said "you can't say or think that", others were like "yeah, that will show those gays".
Funny you mention "Little Britain"😂 they showed it on Swedish TV too. It was quite hillarius.
It was not considered risky. Back when this was made, people still practiced humor.
This is still one of the most popular humor songs in Sweden and is generally connected with the LGBTQ movement so yes, you would be able to do it today
SVT humor approved by the state. The last frame of the clip :)
I'm only 19 but I grew up watching Little Britain as a kid, and yeah, it definitely influenced my humor lmao
I bringed a really good speaker to school and played this middle of class
I feel we need a better translation of this, not sure if you can make it to make it make sense, but i feel these subtitles are not 100%
I'd say it's 95% correct, there were a few words that were different in the subtitles but they were changed to something that meant the same. only place where the subtitles didn't translate well would be at 2:55 where she sang that her son went hunting with he's gun, in Swedish she said he shot 4 people but in the subtitle it said he killed a dozen. most of the changed words were to make the subtitles flow work with the lyrics
There is a better one. This translation is new to me, I have seen another one. But it worked, even if it could have been better.
I would say they are pretty horrible. I personally would never translate the word "bög" with "fag"
Imo "bög" feels like very very neutral and has a pretty neutral connotation, nowhere near the negative connotation that "fag" has
Omg I can't believe you're reacting to Grotesco. They do so many good sketches.
In little Britain there was at least only room for one gay in that village!
i would argue that Swedish comedy peeked with grotesco, such a good series to this day
Grotesco is absolutely top class.
yes SVT is definetly like BBC as its swedens main news channel on the tv
SVT stands for Sveriges television (Swedish television)
@Dwayne'sView Yes, SVT (Sveriges television = Swedish Television) is like BBC. :-)
You should take a look at Grotescos ” planning Hitlers bachelor party”.
Grotesco is one of the all time greats, in Sweden especially, but anywhere. I love Monty Python and some of these guys sketches are on par :).
Check out their "Ett kilo mjöl" and "Riddarna".
This is the worst translation I’ve ever seen😂
I think they tried to fit the meter
@@titanuranus3095Still could be done much better. The spelling is awful too.
SVT is your BBC (state owned TV) and is short for Sveriges Television (Sweden Television).
And, of course you could do this song now, in 2024. Nothing controversial about it.
