    Blizzard went out of its way to make sure Blizzcon was marked by two major game announcements and sorrowful contrition. To anybody paying attention, it was really marked by insincerity and cowardice.
    The company is a big pile of toss, and no amount of Diablo 4 or Overwatch 2 will actually change that. These game announcements are wallpaper over the cracks in Blizzard's facade, and we ought not forget it.

      @Posichronic 4 ปีที่แล้ว +5

      To be fair there was kind of a golden era before now, but before home consoles, they had arcades. Those were specifically designed, often using psychological manipulation, to get players to pump just as many quarters into them as they could get their grubby hands on. People seem to have fond memories, and I guess it was a social thing too, you had to leave the house to do it, your friends would be there, but the predatory nature and even the methods employed weren't much different from what they're doing today. That being said, I think most people would maybe spend a couple dollars, if that. Some would dump seemingly endless amounts of money in. But you'd have had to been one dedicated motherfucker to drop over $2,000 worth of quarters into an arcade machine in even a month's time. That's one major difference between now and then. The 'whales' are fatter, and easier to bait.
      Really, the modern game industry hasn't innovated some new way to bleed people dry, it's just that the technology and infrastructure has finally reached the point that it's once again possible to milk every penny out of their victims. Some of the publishers doing it now were around back then, so this isn't really a new business model for them.
