It's that miserable time of the year once again. 2020 has been a hellscape of dread and confusion, but there is one thing you can always rely upon - the annual rundown of the crappiest nonsense games can offer.
From Marvel's Avengers to the horrendous XIII Remake, we look at the ten games embodying this awful year with their awful awfulness. You might be surprised at some of the picks. You might not.

For me it's not even limited to the game. I forget about the existence of The Avengers as a whole until someone brings it up.
Hell, I even forgot the avengers franchise existed a couple times this year. And I've watched nearly all the movies, if not all.
I think even February had an extra day. That's how bad it had to be. A whole extra ass 24 hours of it.

dude i have found myself getting the kinda of nostalgia you get for stuff form a decade ago with games that released, like, 2 years ago max.
This year was AT LEAST the same length as 2010-2015 and nobody can convince me otherwise

The WWE game looks really terrible, but I really love the idea that an alligator is a wrestling fan and that you can chuck a person into his mouth
I maybe alone on this but Battlegrounds is NOT THAT bad of a wrestling game.
I like the over the top signatures/finishers.
I just don't like how some performers have one signature (like The Fiend has Sister Abigail, NOT Mandible Claw).

There are MUCH better games for just mindless action. I expect to play as Bray Wyatt and Mandy Rose and have them feel nothing like each other when I play a WWE game

I think they still make good games, I quite liked LEgion.
I feel bad for the devs at Ubisoft, all of their games clearly have merit but they're all undermined by bizarre, terrible design choices (forced RPG mechanics for example) and monetization schemes.
I used to love the odd Ubisoft game, now I just brace for the worst whenever they announce a new project.

Got to admit, I wasn’t expecting Avengers to be on this list. To be fair, this was only because I had just completely forgotten that it exists. It absolutely deserves it, but my point still stands: I was surprised to see it.

No kidding, I thought Marvel's Avengers came out last year. That's what this year has done to my perception of time.
My thoughts exactly, but for like half the games on the list.
I was just thinking "A comedian summed this year up with a joke real nicely." and then I realized the joke was made 3-4 years ago. Our perception of time unraveled a long time ago, just that so much bullshit keeps happening all the time that we keep forgetting anything that's farther than 3 weeks into the past.
It came out just a few months ago. But 3 months in 2020 feels like 30 months.
It's gotten me mixing up my Sundays and Mondays and all. Good to know I'm not the only one being driven nuts by 2020
It's like Anthem. It came out Jan 2019...but I swear it's been 10 years and I frequently forget it ever existed.

I noticed that most of the reviews didn't appear until the game was out for a few days. What's the usual reason for that again?
Having to put Deadly Premonition 2 on this list hurts but it absolutely had to be here. It's really sad that people seem to think that the game running badly is part of the "charm," when the original 360 version of DP1 ran so well with only a few dips. The horrible ports of it really ruined people's perceptions.
Next time I'm about to top, I'm definitely going to whisper "I'm about to corrupt your save file" into their ear immediately beforehand. Thanks Jim!

Cyberpunk is actually really good now that they have fixed alot of the bugs but there still is alot that needs fixing but I am able to play it on ps4 now without huge problems so I would say since I have already beaten the game that it's a damn good game it just has alot of minor bugs alot that are really funny. I think it deserves a place within the top 10 games of 2020 that had a terrible launch.
@@travisseagroves69 It still needs a lot of work to be actually good imho. Yes the game is great when it works, but oftentimes it just doesn't. No cop AI, no car chases, shitty combat AI that either just bumrushes you or sits behind a wall until you find them, etc. And CDPR will have to work really hard to rebuild their reputation.
@@Nyghtrid3r I do agree those things do need fixing, but it doesn't really bother me at the moment, because I can still play the game and enjoy the story. I also haven't had any problems with the AI that much in my playthrough so I couldn't actually say. In my playthrough everything went fine with the combat. I say that, because I had them throw grenades at me and stay behind cover. I even had them try searching for me when I hid from them. I had some that stayed in cover and faught tactically, while some rushed in. Some even tried hacking me; so I can't say there is a issue with the combat, as it seems perfectly fine to me. Also I had a mission with something to do with some data at a bus depo, and you had to kill some guy, and they were Valentino's. Let's just say I wasn't a high enough level for that mission, and they fucked me up pretty bad. I had to resort to running, but they just kept running after me no matter how far I went. That's not to mention they did alot of fucking damage so much so that I had to literally keep my distance and shoot them with a sniper rifle (one that I had previously found somewhere, that had a fuck ton of damage). I had to shoot them in the head, and keep moving while trying to stay behind cover the best I could; so I could kill them without dying. When I collected their weapons; they were like for level 30 and up, but i was like level 15, or something like that. They were relentless, and wouldn't stop chasing after me so I would say everything combat wise is perfectly fine. With that being said I can confirm that they will chase after you on foot. However, yeah they don't follow you in cars which I'm grateful for, because it would be a major annoyance trying to get away from them. I say this, because you can't shoot, and drive apparently, or at the very least I haven't figured out how to do it yet. I think the main reason they don't have enemies follow you in vehicles is, because they would probably wander off, and cause problems for people who are trying to clear an area of enemies, or it would just be a major annoyance. I also have noticed the cops won't pursue you in vehicles, but I think that's because you need to have a high wanted level. I can't confirm this about the high wanted level though, because I haven't really tried to get a high wanted level; due to me trying to avoid killing civilians and cops. The highest I think I ever got was two stars, because I had mistaken two hazmat wearing "beat cops" as millitech soldiers, and I had killed them with the mantis blades before I realized they were cops. This could also be due to the story, as the cops are said to be understaffed and probably don't want to waste thier time on something small; which I think is why they wont pursue you for long if you have low wanted level. However, If this isn't intentional behavior then yeah I agree they should really fix it.

My guess is it means "games" that are more microtransaction store than game.
To think Perfect Dark is the franchise to get that label first.
It means, "because we just made that shit up, we'll be claiming our games are now in that category, to justify increasing the cost and amount of shady BS gambling."
I think it's similar to the naming of batteries. The more As, the sleeker it is, and they'll be used in ever more technologicaly advanced devices, but they also have less capacity and will be disposed of sooner.

@@darthkai8242 I definitely think the movie is worse, but the book is still bad. Did you honestly enjoy reading a verbatim transcript of the movie WarGames? Cuz I didn't. And no, that's not the only problem with the book, but it's still kinda emblematic of the entire problem with the novel.

Sure it was nothing amazing but as someone who never knew WarGames existed it was an average book for teens to explore 80s nostalgia. Nothing amazing and nothing to get worked up over. Just a decent book to read over a few days and then forget about after a months unless something or someone reminds you of it.

Worlds more expansive and empty than ever, loaded in an instant, but it will take you literal real world days to travel from one end to the other! I look forward to all the Ene my we'll encounter.
On Deadly Premonition I'm reminded of a line from Absolute Power on a terrible novel, something along the lines of "It's a comic masterpiece; a perfect integrity of vision meets a complete absence of ability". Things that are so bad they are good are never made cynically, the joy of them comes from the director's earnest belief that they are creating something special - which they do, just not as they intended.
That Tom Clancy game looks practically IDENTICAL to a Marvel mobile game I played (to qualify for an offer somewhere else), from the art style to the UI to the 'gameplay'. Remember back in the 2000's when smartphone games looked like a promising future for gaming? Inexpensive and fun games you could play anywhere in short bursts that were vetted and compiled in a central app store? It is absolutely heinous that a lot of peoples first introduction to video games are going to be either this game or one of it's many thematically veiled clones.
It really is a shame that mobile has such a bad rap. With advances in phone technology, both with processing power and control capability, there's some genuinely good stuff. Not enough to obsolete the Switch, but plenty of simpler action titles and slower-paced adventures/VNs (even if most are ports of older stuff) good for, as you said, playing in bursts.
Honestly disappointed you didn't go with "Top 20 of 2020", because we got WAY more than just 10 crap ones this year!

@@WesleyABrown This is why Blizzard delayed their game and dumped it in January. They knew most would forget about it by the end of the year. CDPR however dumped their broken game in December, right before yearly lists are made. It won't work for everyone though. While Jim forgot about reforge; it still got listed on Worthabuy. I hope to see it on AJ as well. These are the only folks I really watch lists from.

I surprised fast and furious crossroads didn't make it up there.
Played Hellpoint for 50 hours on GOG. The true final boss is a trippy fight against a cosmic deity that's a bit much, so I didn't bother grinding levels to make it easier.
That being said, it's a souls-like with a jump button, and I quite liked the art direction and the scattered bits of lore.
Putting it on this list feels a bit harsh, imho.
It's a really good game in fact, with well done secrets and enemy placement.
I just take a guess and say, it's on this list because Jim is too dumb for it and needed to vent.
Even the Cornflakes Humunculus has suffered so much from this years plague.

Man, Hellpoint had a *really* rough launch. The bug level was, on a scale of 0 to 1 Cyberpunk's, at least a 0.5. The twitchy corpses I saw... *shudder* But at least the devs seem to have cracked down and fixed most of them pretty quickly after launch. (They definitely did something to the lighting to make it look decent?) It's not The Greatest Game Ever Made, but I was pretty much okay with it. Heck, I actually finished it which is something that I rarely do with Souls-likes. I'd probably give it around a 6.5/10, and would love to see the devs take the lessons learned and make another game.
Yeah it's totally fine. I mean no way is "totally fine" meant to be a glowing review. But it's by far and away worthy of one of the worst games of the year.
Sadly as much as Jim cracks on about being alternative, bandwagoning on the cyberpunk bug memes at this stage seems a bit populist.

No "Ambassador of Everything Foreskinning Wrong With Steam" game this year? Kinda sad to see that steam direct has just been so lame that even the king of covering shitty steam games has just given up. I really truly do miss the Squirty Plays. That said, the quality of The Jimquisition has gone up and Jim has done a lot of other cool stuff. So it's a trade off.
Frankly, I presume that the abuse and harassment Jim receives as a result of covering trash games that nobody has ever heard of to just not really be worth it.
For years now, Steam's algorithms have been robust enough to not show any of this soulless garbage to anyone that doesn't already purchase and interact with the soulless garbage. So, frankly, it doesn't really even matter if there's garbage being put up for sale on the platform if nobody ever sees the garbage in the first place.
In fact, I could argue that in some ways, it's better to do this than to have...say, a system like GoG, where Opus Magnum was rejected despite the fact that

I miss those videos as well but he's given up on Steam and that's his choice. The good news is that this fight is basically over anyway. Steam finally filtered the store so that all the shovelware no longer shows up unless you directly search for the games or have a history of buying that kind of trash. So yes while they are still technically "on" the store... 99% of users will never see them.

Just a correction: CDPR did not fuck up refunds - sony did. Sony has willingly sold a game it knew was broken and then when people were told to exercise their legal right to refund sony threw a hissy fit and pulled the game.

Naughty Dog and CD Projekt Red went from the some of the most beloved development companies to the most despised with abusive crunch and auteur hubris, while an already well-hated company like Ubisoft turned out to be making games for rapists, by rapists and all the profits going to rapists.

I was trying to find this. I took a two year business course in high school that I've never used a day in my life and even then, we learned this in the first bloody week.

I might be biased as one of the backers, but Hellpoint was made by a 7-person studio and Kickstarted for only $64500. I think SOME of the criticism is unwarranted given the limited scope of development. The game is fine if you don't mind a little jank and like the Event Horizon-esque sci-fi horror aesthetic.

The game would have to be bad or be technically broken, which cannot be said about TLOU2.
Neil Druckmann admitted that he screwed up with the crunch in his interview with Troy Baker, which puts it above the faceless corporation crunch pushers.
Hopefully he makes good on that for their next game.

you went a bit hard on Cyberpunk 2077, i agree with all the over hype, bug, lies and ps4/xbox one being crap. But i would'nt call it a piece of shit though. Played it on pc with a gtx 1080 at ultra and spent 150 hours on it, all the content worked and all the bugs were minor things like floating guns on some dead enemies, T poses etc. It was one of the best game of 2020 for me. So yes, cyberpunk deserve to be on the list but the description could have been done better to reflect the truth.
