I'd promise this is the last video I'm doing on Gearbox CEO Randy Pitchford, but I can't guarantee against His Royal Weirdness doing something else screwed up that merits more.
Randy Pitchford's pattern of erratic behavior and continued aggression might have made him a successful TH-camr, but as a CEO of a corporation, as a man who personally goes out of his way to represent the brand, it's beyond untenable.
From Colonial Marines to Borderlands 3, whenever there's a controversy involving Gearbox, Randy is almost always in the middle of it. It's time he just... stopped.

The industry has been flourishing (in its present form) for barely a couple of decades - it's not like the automotive or manufacturing industries. Meanwhile these guys have come from not-a-lot to an absolute shit-ton in very little time and haven't learned anything about humility, maturity or integrity along the way. That's not to say that the DuPonts and Rockerfellers of this world were pillars of decency. But at least they weren't broadcasting their business-damaging brain farts across the internet like entitled tweens.

Jared has had a cameo on the Jimquisition, I forget which episode, but it was after some convention where they hung out. It doesn't matter but maybe that made him feel like he needed to say SOMETHING about it.

Fuck it, DLC period = microtransaction. If the game isn't worth buying on its own standalone merits then it deserves to burn. The promise of future DLC 'completing' games is a lame practice that needs to end. Better to pay $100 for an excellent finished game than $50 for a good idea and halfass promise of more later.
Regarding his tweet that "I was very clear we are going to do cosmetics" plenty of games have cosmetic bonuses included or as free DLC without micro transactions, the two aren't intrinsically linked.

The difference between Sean Murray and Randy Pitchford is experience. I think Sean murray was just naive in his marketing efforts rather than blatantly dishonest. I mean they were a new indie studio after all. On the other hand pitchford has been doing this for years now. He should know better

What I COULD believe is that he convinced himself it 'didn't count' somehow or things snowballed at some point and he got trapped by the fibs. Because... that's pretty much how those sorts of things happen, even if they're inevitably going to blow up on you.
I'd agree that his later actions make comparisons with people who seem to be utter scumbags unfair, though. To the point that i feel warm and fuzzy knowing their product and company have had success. It feels nice to have been able to have an opinion shift to the positive like that ^_^
IMO all of Murray's actions after NMS' release prove he wasn't being intentionally deceitful. I think what happened is that he was not a trained PR man but a passionate indie game programmer who suddenly found his little hobby project suddenly the focus of a massive multi-million dollar hype train with Sony, a global multinational corporation, putting him in the center of it. So he goes on to speak with Stephen Colbert and Colbert asks him if there's multiplayer and suddenly a Morton's Fork lays before him. He can tell Stephen the truth but it would disappoint people and he would then be fielded a bunch of follow-up questions that would result in getting into lots of technical details, or he can say "Yes" because they were probably thinking of putting that in anyway and maybe we can get multiplayer up in time if we're lucky. Go back to the video and look how he both immediately starts to hedge his claim. He says there will be multiplayer but that the game's universe is so massive it's unlikely any two players can occupy the same space at the same time.

Randy Pitchford accusing Sterling as a liar about his lies on promoting his Aliens Colonial Marines, is the same person who said the Best version of this game will be on the Wii U. And there's the rub, and the conundrum.
This statement about the Wii U version alone exposed the true magic of Mr. Pitchford. Because consider how misleading the game came out on other platforms, making it a game you'd rather not buy; I have to sadly admit he ended up being right on what the best version was. The vaporware version nobody spent money on. He actually invented a way to *only* tell lies, but do it in such a manner that compounded lies eventually produced a truth. That never happens. To come to the truth only with lies. Never has such a thing been shown possible before, outside of the Door Puzzle from the movie Labyrinth. And even then, it was a genius of logic to force either only the truth or only the lie to point out the same *wrong* door, either way.
Fun Fact: he's named after a mythical creature that hides in grease pits in Amarillo Texas.
