From Anthem to Contra: Rogue Corps, there's been a lot of trash to sift through, but we've nailed it down. The most deficient, most insulting, most miserable games of the year! Let's look at the worst of the worst.

I've been seeing negative press for Anthem for so long I thought It came out in 2018.

Has anyone actually played raid? Cause I decided to give it a go, and then realized that what all the ads show is literally the first 3 minutes or so of the game, which is unsurprising. Although it’s not bad for a mobile game, just wish people wouldn’t accept ads for things they don’t actually care about

So, does anyone remember early 2019, when you could read posts on forums for several different MMO game communities that were actually legitimately concerned that Anthem was going to kill their player-bases?
I had to endure post after post of how Anthem was going to be the Destiny 2 killer, and one of my friends was so hyped he pre-ordered it. He played it for one day, it nearly bricked his PS4, and then he returned it and used the money to buy Red Dead II.
to be fair if anthem hadn't been published by ea it probably could have been a real threat to several of those game but it was so ‾\_(ツ)_/‾

I still remember some the strange hype generated by Left Alive - apparently just because Yoji Shinkawa did the concept art. I couldn't find gameplay until right up near release and it looked so bad I thought it was some kind of prank.

@@fieryrebirth Seeing as Jim didn't actually finish it, I find him shitting on the game honestly pretty disingenuous here. It would be different story, if he stopped playing it due to the game actually being an unplayable mess or narratively offensive and subpar, but it really is neither of those.
Yes, the trailer in question is really silly and over the top, but that's unlikely on Kojima and while I do agree he went a bit overboard with referencing stuff connecting back to people he got to work with on this project in the in-game infobox files, it doesn't take away from the fact that in terms of themes and vision, he nailed it from where I'm standing. I certainly don't find it to be his best game, but it is a clear improvement on Phantom Pain in almost any regard I can think of.
The best thing about Anthem was Jim's character looking like Mysterio.
The only good thing I can imagine coming out of Anthem is someone's dissapointment in not having a good flying robot game raging to the heavens and making a good indie flying robot game in response.

While I know FO76 is not a 2019 game I still feel like it deserves special mention.
How about making an exception for "Fallout 1st"? You pretty much pay the amount you would pay for the second-most "premium" of "editions" of a video game, with $120 being the highest (I decided to not include the "Collector's Editions" because sometimes, they don't even come with the game (evident with Battlefield 1's "Collector's Edition").
It should just get a lifetime achievement award. Feels about right.

That the all singing, all dancing fecal matter show has been ongoing for over a year straight and has overshadowed just about every other game in terms of being an absolute abomination, taking shelter under its bloated and festering, baseball ball bruised equine body.
I feel like 2019 has been the year where we (More then even) judged the developers and publishers rather then the games they make, getting right to the source of the industry's problems.

Anthem was so outdated and trend-chasing that it feels like it came out and died a lifetime ago. It lived a blissfully short existence compared to games like Fallout 76, even though they keep pretending like they're going to save it.
That contra game looked like a remake of Hellgate: London.
Not gonna lie, the Mr Booze part slaps so hard. Even if the game itself is boring, I could still get a few hours of entertainment out of bopping to the music while merkin enemies.

3:28 I would like to slightly disagree that Anthem being bad after intense crunch is a bad thing. I think it's a win that Anthem is so bad after having the crunch it did as it is a spark towards the argument that we should do away with crunch. In my opinion, games like Red Dead 2 are the problem were the developer/publisher can point to crunch and claim it works and is a good thing.
This is stupid logic. Those devs don't deserve to be made into martyrs. If you really care about them then don't buy their game.
