What a suspension! The VT series II HSV was the first Commodore to get the toe control link on the rear suspension, 5 years after Opel put in the Omega. Mind you, Falcons still had leaf springs on the station wagon.
Funnily enough the series 1 has the provisions for the toe adjuster on the hubs but not on the subframe, and the series 2 has them missing, only to return in the VX2 with the adjustable toe. TBH a live axle would've been nice, like a V8 VS Commodore, purely for a strength and ease of camber point of view. Plus a ton lighter than the IRS
I first learned about this car in Need for Speed when it was featured in the PS1 version of High Stakes as well as in the PC version of NFS III. The reason why it looks like a Opel/Vauxhall Omega & a Cadilliac Catera due to the fact they were built on the same platform with the Commodore at the time being a long big version of the Omega & the WH Statesman/Caprice being a bigger & longer version of the car, while the Monaro which was sold here in America as the GTO too. The V-Platform was an Opel made platform before it was phased out in favor of Holden's Zeta platform which too will go once Holden closes it plant.
We predominately live in and around the costal areas, with much of our country lived on by only cattle station farmers or native indigenous people, so it is a fair call when you break it all down. Besides which, these are the images we have been sending out in tourism ads for years, so that's the image the rest of the world get's from us, beaches, the outback and the opera house.
Towns in Australia are 58,000 km's apart when the circumference of the world is 40,000km at the equator. And we don't drive from one side of the country to the other, that's what planes are for.
The performance version of the Vauxhall omega. The standard gts is a better bet at £40000. 340 bhp. But things have moved on and it was never better than the e39 m5, that car was a legend. The vxr8 is a better car than the e39 m5 in my opinion. Beautiful car.❤️
well the HRT walkinshaw won Bathurst in 1990, although it was because the lead nissan blew up. The nissans were a very strong package (too strong, 600hp they claimed), better than the sierras and everything else.
FPV F6 is fast in a straight line, but not much faster then a N/A HSV. mabey a tenth or so quicker to 100KMH. an F6 vs a HSV GTS around a track is another story. ford chassis are incompetent in terms of handling. great at drag racing but thats about all.
The body design is the same i believe but with slightly different dimensions and running gear, suspension and suspension geometry. look very similar to omega i must say.
The outer skin is about all they have in common. The history dating back to the very first Holden Commodore, the VB shows just how different: In 1975, when Holden started their V-car programme i.e. the first Commodore, they wanted to downsize from the HJ series Kingswood. They took the Opel Rekord shell, and mated it to the Senator nose, as one of their engine options was an inline 6 cylinder. They also changed out the steering for rack and pinion steering so as to be able to fit V8 engines. Initially, they hand built some prototypes and sent them around their test track. These were little more than Opels modified with only the above. Within 1500 km, the grille fell out. Within 5000 km, they had to be scrapped. This is where the REAL change started. Holden engineers looked at all of the weaknesses and got to work in strengthening the body and the chassis. They retuned the suspension, even changed the fabrics to cope with the extreme heat of northern Australia. Just as with later Commodores, at first glance, they look similar in the outer skin. However, beneath that skin, it's far more than just a steroid fed version of its German counterpart. Holden always had to save money, but did it without compromising engineering.

yes but when this car came out ford had the tickford TS50 or whatever it was called lol. todays cars are another matter all together and yes the F6 is the quickest today.
Who told you that? I know from first hand experience that's not true. Maybe certain models and what not but I had a BA xr6 non turbo and I could smash it around a track with alot more comfort than I do with my now VZ SS. I got a shit load more power in the SS but the amount of body roll is fucked.

Fuel and tyres aside, the infamous Godzilla is crawling with things that will die and cost a fortune. I've seen this up close. Thrash a Commodore and they will ask for more. Thrash a Skyline and watch the repair bill build. They were designed to handle tarmac like the Ginza, and they find anything rough very punishing
@Mr MEMé in the 12 years I've had mine, the only parts I've changed more than once were the crank angle sensor, the water pump and the exhaust. The latter because of the short trips, not enough time to get the condensation out of the exhaust enough for it to be completely dry
@Mr MEMé Mine is a series 1 VN Commodore wagon. They should have more trouble than a Series II, as these were the ones that still had carryovers from the engine's front wheel drive GM origins, such as the thermostat housing at the back of the intake manifold. This also has a surge tank instead of a radiator cap and reservoir. At present, I am doing a partial overhaul; all new bushes up front, new disc rotors, timing cover, timing chain, master cylinder, some electrical work, oil seals and other. Considering the engine is the original from the factory, and over 30 years old, this one has stood by me like a Bull Terrier.
@Mr MEMé The VN was right on schedule, and wasn't actually rushed into production. In 1986, Holden were using VL bodies as test beds for the V6. The EA Falcon was a massive lemon because they DID rush it into production. The number of things that went wrong with them was very long. 3360 changes between EA and EB, and they still didn't fix all the problems
