I have had my vt ss for over 7 years now and love it every time I start her up and get that V8 rumble. I get guise bumps when you drive an old v8 these days it makes you feel like your driving a supercar because there isn't many on the road so when you sit at a set of lights all the sound is coming from you. I am so happy I have the last of the Aussie built will love it for many many more years.
@@glenntorrens8988.gyday Glenn,I was shopping around a few years ago when the car prices were rediculos, this video was very helpful, hoping to get an ss one day.vt maybe the way to go mate.love your work too👍
In the early 2000’s my Grandpa was looking at these. He ended up getting a great deal on a brand new WH Caprice which had just got the LS1 upgrade. The cars been in the family longer than I’ve been alive and it’ll never leave. Wonderful machines. Holden was just smashing it back in the day. Wonderful video on a wonderful piece of Aussie history
While I favour the VY and VZ for their better interior and rear suspension geometry, the VT really was the best looking of the 3rd generation of Commodores. The VTII was the complete package, with the LS1 that just completely outstripped the old Iron Lion (well, except for the sound). The only thing that looked and ran slicker was the Monaro, which was based on the VT shape anyway. Very happy to still have an 03 Monaro and an 05 Adventra as my main cars
Brings back memories of when they were new we had a Tiger Mica LS1 Demonstater on the Sales floor Everyone in the joint wanted to drive it, Absolute money pits used broken seat mechanisms, rear main leaks, bent link bushes, rubbish apolstery that sagged, Oil consumption in every second one into the workshop.
All Series 1 VT Commodores, from 1998 onwards, had optional Side Impact Airbags (SIAB), these could be spotted by a decal on the B pillars, which simply reads, "SRS Side Airbag" The VT Acclaim (family and fleet model) received all four airbags as standard from 1998. They were optional on all other Series 1 VT Commodores, including Berlina, Calais, S Pack and SS. I have seen some Series 1 VT SS Commodores with Side Airbags, but they're not common. They were standard on the Series 2 (June 1999 onwards) VT Acclaim, Berlina and Calais, and optional on Executive, S Pack and SS.
I have a VT 5.0I roller cam V8 on a carb. in my HZ Premier and the 700r, love it, Interesting to know what the weight difference of the cars between the two engines?
Yeah, I agree on this, I have a 2000 VT V6 and mine lost the air conditioning, they don't seem to be all that great, maybe something they improved with VX? And/or VY and VZ?
@@glenntorrens8988 you can fix them as many times as you want but soon enough they’ll get another leak elsewhere and lose all the gas, I own an ls1 vt and my parents have an ls1 wk statesman and the amount of times dads fixed the ac then it’s eventually lost all the gas again is ridiculous they’re just not a good design
@@dompirrotta3306 I too have owned - and continue to own - these models/series cars. One had 300+K on it... no issues with the climate control/HVAC. Multiple attempts at regassing - as many people do - is not 'fixing' an a/c system that needs it. Maybe you haven't taken that into consideration. They are now 20+ years old.
@glenntorrens8988 I got a new compressor for my aircon system on my VT but occasionally when you use it, it makes a rubbing sound like a belt or something is rubbing against something inside It works well besides that though

yes there is far more to driving one than just 'driving'!

I chose the HSV VT CLUBSPORT series 1 195kw 5 litre 5 speed manual with sunroof. LOVE THIS CAR!
My friend had one. I had a hk sedan, 307 chev and manual. I couldn't believe I beat it! They were heavy cars for the 304
Or the 4.3l lexus limo had 205kw and near 500nm and a 6 speed auto.

Love the VT, my Dad had one
yes, good things!
I always will take the 5L over the 5.7L
I laughed when he said they have awesome airconditioning systems, They are anything but awesome and constantly lose all their gas 😭

Maybe you should fix the problems in your system that is now 25 - twenty-five - years old. Then it will work awesome again

Get an ls430 instead. Makes the caprice look the box of crap it is. And its quicker than the ss.
