I was sceptical about yoga for a long time and I was telling myself that I'm not flexible enough to do it. Then, life pushed me to give yoga a chance when I was going through a period of anxiety and, within a year, yoga become one of my most cherished habits and changed me as a person - both physically and mentally.
I never thought I would be someone who could talk about yoga all the time but, there you go. So, today, I share with you my journey, the incredible health benefits of yoga as well as how yoga impacted my mental health and attitude.
At the end, I also give you some tips if you want to start, but don't know where.

Yoga rocks. I started practicing 10 years ago when I was 45 years old. Now I am in the best shape of my life. As you mentioned yoga connects the body, the mind and the spirit and my experience is that I become more sensitive to my body, I treat it with greater love and respect. In return it tells me a lot about my state and brings me much more pleasure through all senses. 🙏❤

Hi again Arngrímur! I have to focus a lot when I type your name - where is it from? It sounds intriguing. It's crazy that you mentioned this because I'm just writing a presentation for an event on how exercise (in my case, largely yoga) has helped me connect my body, mind and spirit! For you, which of these exeperiences would you "classify" as related to mind and which ones are more spiritual? Thank you for sharing this x

    •  3 ปีที่แล้ว +1

@@The_Why_Girl The meaning of my name is eagle mask 😊
I find the mental benefits to be better concentration, more tranquelity and joy. The spiritual part has been Feeling the connection of mental and emotional blockages and taumas in the body. Also a greater opening of the intuition. When I have good focus the yoga session becomes a physical meditation. 🙏

@@The_Why_Girl I had been doing yoga, for more than 20 years on and off, but it’s only in the last 636 days, that I have deepened this practice into a lifestyle, that I live on and off the mat. I am also along term vegan, though, through my yoga journey, I have become a raw vegan, who eats 8 hours a day and fasts for 16, and my diet, too, has become part of the journey.

Through regular practice, yoga enhances flexibility, strength, and balance while also reducing stress, promoting relaxation, and fostering mindfulness. This dual focus on the body and mind makes yoga a powerful tool for overall health and wellness. What a fantastic journey you have👏👏

My biggest struggle with yoga is finding true "beginner" positions. Ive gone to classes, and watched so many videos that say simple, beginner yoga, and 5 min in they are twisted up like a pretzel and I feel so defeated. I love your be kind to yourself point :) definitely need to do a little more of that.

Great video :). I was the same with yoga I was interested but I just saw it as something that wouldn't work for me and wouldn't have the same benefit for me as it does others. Two weeks ago getting bored of lockdown I thought I'd finally give it a try and was amazed at how easy it looks but it's so difficult! But I am obsessed and already creating better habits in my life with food sleep and other exercise naturally. I'm pretty sure my posture has improved too, so I am in love.

It’s never too late to start yoga.
I started just after my 50th birthday. Two years later I was in India doing my teacher training and now I’ve been teaching for three years.
Before I started I couldn’t bend forward to touch my toes, I was very inflexible. Yoga is definitely the best thing I’ve ever done for myself.
I wish you well on your journey, one piece of advice I would give anyone regarding yoga is you need to be consistent with your practice.

I plan to make this a part of my life now, finally. How long did it take you to notice less migraines? That's one of the reasons I keep coming back to it.

    • @The_Why_Girl
      @The_Why_Girl  3 ปีที่แล้ว +3

Hi Susan, it's lovely to meet you! What a wonderful story! How's your Feb challenge going? As for migraines, I noticed pretty quickly that yoga brings me relief because I started being more aware of my body. One time, when I felt a migraine attack coming, I tried a migraine-focused yoga class and it stopped the pain. It doesn't always help but, if I do it soon enough, it often does. Have you tried yoga for helping with migraines? If so, did it help?

Hey Tim! It's great to meet you. I've almost exclusively practiced online. My favourite channels and teacher lately are Boho Beautiful Yoga and Nicole Wild. I recommend checking them out :)

Travis Eliot is my go to instructor. He does proper power yoga workouts! Who do you recommend?

Welcome here! For power yoga workouts, I recommend Boho Beautiful and Breathe and Flow. I’ve also just started my own yoga channel - Yoga Habit - and will be putting up some power yoga routines so watch out for that. You can find me here:

      I’ll check out Travis Eliot - I’m curious :)

interesting to note that the word Yoga is not correct to denote to Asana practice. Also Yoga comes from a country which is not given its due respect for the things it has openly and without pattenting shared with the world (unlike americans or the capatalist Americans) that itself should be lauded and hailed the highest quality in a country. Also to understand how deeep and lovely the eastern culture actually is.. I discovered it more and more as i travelled many more countries .. I could see the lack of understanding the basic requirements of life and life skills in them . IT all looks rosy and shiney but the crimes, the racism, the extreme greed and over using things or the whole thing of taking advantage of something ..is intact in these other world cultures compared to the eastern cultures and thats whats killing the world and the cause of so much misery we see around. If some one actually practises yoga they wouldn't do 80 % of things they are doing right now.... to lead their lives and that also includes not eating meat and poor hapless animals who share the earth with us. ( killing for food) is the biggest no no in yoga.
