⁉️ 7 Things You Should Do After Buying Your First Gun
A lot of first-time gun owners have no idea what to do next after buying their gun, so I'm here to tell you the 7 things you should do AFTER buying your first gun.
First things first, Learn The 4 Rules of Gun Safety.
Truth be told, you should learn the rules of gun safety before you ever touch a gun much less buy one. These rules should be permanently etched in your brain. Honestly, I could make an entire video about the 4 rules of gun safety and I just might, but in the meantime here are the four rules.
    1. ALWAYS KEEP YOUR FIREARM POINTED IN A SAFE DIRECTION.
    2. TREAT ALL FIREARMS AS IF THEY WERE LOADED.
    3. KEEP YOUR TRIGGER FINGER OUTSIDE THE GUARD AND OFF OF THE TRIGGER UNTIL YOU ARE READY TO FIRE.
    4. BE CERTAIN OF YOUR TARGET, YOUR LINE OF FIRE, AND WHAT LIES BEYOND YOUR TARGET.
These rules are a full-proof way to keep you and the people around you safe from firearm negligence so commit these 4 rules to memory and Never break them.
    2. Actually Shoot Your Gun / Learn About your Gun
You know who you are. You buy a gun throw it in a drawer and never touch it again. Don’t do this! The first time you shoot your gun should not be when someone is trying to break into your home. This is not only silly it’s dangerous. A gun is a mechanical tool and mechanical tools don’t always work the way you expect them too.
I hate instruction manuals, the microprint on the borderline translucent paper just frustrates me. However, you must learn about your gun, and the best way to do it is on the internet. More specifically, TH-cam. The TH-cam gun community has been around for a long time and trust me, there is a video on TH-cam about your gun.
    3. Get handgun self-defense Training
Shooting a gun is easy, shooting a gun accurately is hard. Shooting a gun accurately under stress is hard as hell. However, finding someone that can teach you in a relatively short period is easy.
    4. Learn The Laws
That being said, Learn the gun laws in your state. This will do two things. It’ll keep you out of jail and it’ll make you absolutely hate gun laws, because you will now realize how useless they are keeping guns out of the hands of criminals and how effective they are at making harder for you to own a gun.
    5. Get a concealed carry license
When i first got into guns and started carrying, the resources that are available now weren’t readily available then. Now, you have organizations like the USCCA which is basically a one-stop shop for everything concealed carry and self-defense with a firearm with the added value of providing you self-defense insurance.
    6. Get Firearm Insurance
Yeah, I literally mean insurance. Put simply, if you are a member of USCCA and you have to use your gun in self-defense, they’ll provide the lawyers, bail you out of jail, and help you throughout the criminal and civil court cases you may likely find yourself in.
I’m a lawyer but I’m still a member of USCCA because the wealth of information, training, and just reassurance that have access to legal minds that focus on self-defense law gives me extra security.
    Last but not least.
    7. Join Second Amendment Rights Organizations
I don’t care who you join even if it’s just a local group, they all need as much help as they can get. They all are important and we need as many well funded 2A organizations as we can get. So try to make an effort to joint at least one 2A organization.

In Poland we have a convenient abbreviation for gun safety: BLOS (I extend it to BLOSZ).
B - from broń (weapon), always treat any of guns as loaded
L - from lufa (barrel), never point it at something you're not willing to destroy (unless you have a will to destroy it, then have fun)
O - otoczenie (surroundings), be wary of the surroundings of your target
S - spust (trigger), keep the finger off it when not willing to fire
Z - zabezpieczenie (safety), put it on, especially when not intending to use it in a short amount of time, when need arises or not having an overwatch over it
I'm still to young to legally own a firearm out here, but no worries, I'll do my best acquiring a gun permit (because of the specifics of our law it'll be simultaneously on sports shooting and collecting, for more read a Wikipedia page about Polish laws).

    Four weapon safety rules:
    1) Treat every weapon as if it were loaded. (Do not assume that your firearm is unloaded, and do a chamber check when receiving or passing off a weapon)
    2) Never point your weapon at anything you do not intend to shoot. (Be aware of the direction of your barrel at all times, this will keep everyone around you safe)
    3) Keep your finger straight and off the trigger until you are ready to fire. (If you rest your finger on the trigger, there's a much higher chance that you'll negligently discharge your weapon)
    4) Keep your weapon on safe until you intend to fire. (When applicable, not all weapons have a safety mechanism)
Sometimes, a fifth safety rule is also referenced:
    5) Know your target and what lies beyond and in-between. (Don't get tunnel vision. If you are shooting a target, is there anything behind it? Pay attention to your surroundings)
The first four are generally the most accepted weapon safety rules, the fifth one is also thrown in sometimes. Generally, if an accident occurs, it's because someone broke at least two of the safety rules, if not more.

My politics have evolved in the last few years, and times are changing. A couple of weeks ago I went to buy my first gun and told them I'm a 65-year-old gun virgin and I felt like I was out looking to buy my first car but I didn't have a drivers license and had never been behind the wheel. They encouraged me to take a gun safety course, the same course that is required for a carry permit in VA, so I'm taking the course in 2 days and then I'll buy a gun. In the meantime, I'm watching as many useful videos as I can find, including this one. I'm already looking forward to lots of range time for practice.

Two days after the class, I went back and rented several guns and fired them, but I came back to the G19. The employee at the rental counter and the salesman I talked with both carry that gun. I'm planning to take another class for guidance and practice, and I submitted the Concealed Carry application to my city courthouse. I won't carry until I'm more proficient and comfortable. Ya that can happen with a AR, keep it pointed in a safe direction, also, the older ones didn't have the strong enough spring on the pin so when it slapped forward it "could go off" on releasing the bolt forward the firing pin could strike the center, happened to me while shooting down range and got a double shot with just one trigger pull! but in my case it was because the ammo didn't have enough gas to reset the sear on the trigger so it followed it back and hit the pinn again.

My husband has been shooting since he was a young kid. Then joined the army. He taught me very well how to handle a gun. But before we shot a real gun he taught me with a water gun. Trigger discipline, no flagging, keeping barrel down range. And everything. Then I upgraded to a airsoft gun. Same lessons.. I then upgraded to his 9mm pistol and then his AR-15.. now I can shoot his kar98k Mauser.. just in a short period with my husband he is surprised and says it's like I am a pro. :). I wanted to learn. And he taught me very well. I am now confident with a firearm and the number one thing he stressed more than anything was safety!

Guns put a smile on your face. That is a fact. I'm so glad I pursued my life long dream of getting a rifle in Finland. Nothing better than extreme long range 22lr shooting, long range hmr hunting and just hunting in general, from magpies or grouse all the way up to moose.
Especially with the 22lr side, I finally found my purpose and something I am good at. Nothing cooler than hitting a 1.5inch plate at 300 meters a few times in a row. The best part about Finnish gun laws, suppressors are readily available for a very affordable price.

There is literally nothing like the feeling of knowing you have the ability to defend yourself and your family. Be very careful bringing your girlfriend to the range.
Backstory: I brought my ex to the range. She told me she had experience shooting before but it had been a while. I went over the rules of gun safety with her. After she fired a shot, she turned around, pointed the gun at me with her finger still on the trigger, and started jumping up and down saying “I hit it!!”

The main one, IMHO, is keep your finger off the trigger until sights are on target and you're ready to shoot. Adhere to that rule, and you'll be more likely to win the mega lotto than to have a ND, as your gun going off without your finger touching the trigger is exceptionally rare.
Ultimately the best safety is the one between your ears. Master that one, and everything else fall into place.

CT also... people seem to forget after Sandy Hook shooting you can't even own a long gun/shotgun or AMMO itself here without going through a lengthy and expensive ($1000+) CARRY permit for handguns is all you can have

If somebody tells you “ i told you, it was unloaded” just tell them “i’m glad, imagine doing two stupid things at once”

This video is so important. It's amazing that newbie gun owners don't know about the topic of reliability.

I have friends in San Diego and Bakersfield; one already has his carry permit, the other is optimistic he'll have his soon. There *are* some locations in California where getting a carry permit isn't a fantasy.

I live in California and everyone carries out here with a CCW permit... even my wife has a ccw permit. I don't understand why Colin puts CA in the can't carry a gun category... ca sells the most guns in the USA second only to Texas. Wish this guy would stop parroting the rhetoric like a sheeple when it comes to California. If you don't live in LA or SF chances are you have a CCW (if you so desire one)

When the shit hits the fan no one will even be thinking about permits, just staying alive and by any means possible.

Robert Henriksen The overwhelming majority of counties in CA issue CCW’s. I’m really not sure why people keep spreading misinformation regarding this subject. Yes, there are a handful of counties that are 100% anti 2A, but they are the minority.

Thank you for being such a great spokesperson for the 2A. I never get tired of watching your videos.
