Born in 67'. We had a loaded rifle behind the front door of our house. None of us kids even considered taking that gun and using it on people who wronged us. We were taught from an early age what guns are and aren't for. What they aren't for is settling disputes. They're for protecting you and your's.
When I was in high school we kept shotguns in our trucks during hunting season so we could go hunting as soon as school let out. Never once did it cross our minds to use them if we had a dispute. That's what fists were for

Actually, that's where you are wrong. In countries with heavy gun laws. If you get caught with an illegal gun. You go to prison for 5 years. So a lot of criminals rather not get caught with them since the penalty is so high. Also, it becomes really hard to find a gun to buy on the black market. Because the underground gun dealers have to be extremely careful. Because the penalty for getting caught selling guns illegally is 25 years. So what happens is if you manage to find a gun for sale. It will be $5000. So most petty criminals can't even afford that. ANd the one criminals who do carry are high rank drug dealers. For protection during deals. No civilians get killed by those type of guys. Trust me. I've been in that world my entire life.

Yes! Most pickup drivers at my high school, all had gun racks in their truck with rifles in them and ammo in the glove compartment. Nobody EVER even thought of using them on people because we were taught respect for life and respect for firearms. Now we have video games that glorify killing. The 4 years I’ve been here I’d say only about 20% of it is actually valuable and good to know in the real world. You think I’d learn more about stocks and smart investments. Instead, I learn formulas and how to plug numbers into those formulas. It really pisses me off because there is literally a calculator that does it for you. Your teacher let’s you have a cheat sheet, therefore, it’s not like you ever remember any of the shit you learn for the test. College is a scheme for the government to take your money and for jobs to “see if you have mental discipline & can complete “tasks.” Shit the first two years of college was just a review of what you learn in high school.

Mtpimenta some people are just more innovative than others. There are thousands of fields of studies that don’t always involve creating things. School isn’t just about learning how to put a rocket on the moon. It can be about learning in general. You can get a general studies degree and learn some math, some science, some history, and be more knowledgeable overall. Or you can choose to specialize in a skill, e.g. people who invent things or research a specific topic in depth. Educations is never a bad thing, and people who say so are either full of themselves or they couldn’t make it.

Terrorist attacks usually take place in gun free zones. Point is not the ability to stop terrorist attacks as much as to protect yourself. But to your point there was a church shooting in middle America (don't remember where) that was stopped/curtailed by a home owner with an AR 15, I think. The impression I get is that allowing people to have relatively easy access to guns is causing way more deaths (accidental deaths and murders) than it saves lives. That's why I think the 'public defense' and self defense argument is bullshit.

Yeah . It’s an important discussion. Just picking on one thing he said that definitely isn’t true. US law enforcement definitely cannot carry guns in the UK. US military personnel based in the UK are allowed to move their weapons through the Uk to their base but not US police. I think Ted can get a bit carried away sometimes and exaggerate.
I’ve worked at a place as unarmed security that bans the presence of any and all firearms. Good news, they have police-sponsored violent intruder training, and every time they showed the same video that tells you that you’re supposed to hide, escape (if possible), and fight (if necessary) using any office tool you may find laying around like chairs, staplers and scissors. The whole time the video goes on, the bald guy with sunglasses indoors is waxing people until the police finally enter the building and by that point, all kinds of people are dead. My job as security regardless would’ve been to abandon those people who are injured or unable/unwilling to escape, and save myself. That’s why you can’t think that you’re safe on the simple principle that someone’s supposed to keep you safe. To which degree? The police aren’t even required to help you when you’re in danger, and aren’t liable if they don’t. Case in point: Parkland HS cop refused to enter the building to end a mass murder. Moral of the story, you’re better off concealing and keeping your own ass safe whether it’s legal to do so or not. Better to be a good citizen and not play by the rules because the bad guy isn’t going to play by the rules either.

Texas is a constitutional carry state and had concealed carry prior to that, because of that, crime has decreased in Texas by over 25%. Including less murders, rape, burglaries and agg assaults. I think the proof is obvious. The only places where Texas has had the mass shootings, was in wal mart (used to be gun free) church (used to be gun free) and schools (used to be gun free) Now Texas has passed a law that churches are an extension of your home so you are allowed to carry, wal mart now allows open carry by legal gun owners, and Texas law now allows teachers to carry on campus when approved by the boards which most do approve except some liberal districts around Austain and Dallas. And because of these changes' shootings have all but disappeared in those previous gun-free zones. Good, trained people with guns make bad people with guns go somewhere else. Its common sense.

The 4 years I’ve been here I’d say only about 20% of it is actually valuable and good to know in the real world. You think I’d learn more about stocks and smart investments. Instead, I learn formulas and how to plug numbers into those formulas. It really pisses me off because there is literally a calculator that does it for you. Your teacher let’s you have a cheat sheet, therefore, it’s not like you ever remember any of the shit you learn for the test. College is a scheme for the government to take your money and for jobs to “see if you have mental discipline & can complete “tasks.” Shit the first two years of college was just a review of what you learn in high school.

School isn’t just about learning how to put a rocket on the moon. It can be about learning in general. You can get a general studies degree and learn some math, some science, some history, and be more knowledgeable overall. Or you can choose to specialize in a skill, e.g. people who invent things or research a specific topic in depth. Educations is never a bad thing, and people who say so are either full of themselves or they couldn’t make it.

Terrorist attacks usually take place in gun free zones. Point is not the ability to stop terrorist attacks as much as to protect yourself. But to your point there was a church shooting in middle America (don't remember where) that was stopped/curtailed by a home owner with an AR 15, I think. The shooter should by law have been stopped from buying firearms but the air Force didn't do it's job so the instant background check didn't work (government failure again)
The impression I get is that allowing people to have relatively easy access to guns is causing way more deaths (accidental deaths and murders) than it saves lives. That's why I think the 'public defense' and self defense argument is bullshit.

I’ve worked at a place as unarmed security that bans the presence of any and all firearms. Good news, they have police-sponsored violent intruder training, and every time they showed the same video that tells you that you’re supposed to hide, escape (if possible), and fight (if necessary) using any office tool you may find laying around like chairs, staplers and scissors. The whole time the video goes on, the bald guy with sunglasses indoors is waxing people until the police finally enter the building and by that point, all kinds of people are dead. My job as security regardless would’ve been to abandon those people who are injured or unable/unwilling to escape, and save myself. That’s why you can’t think that you’re safe on the simple principle that someone’s supposed to keep you safe. To which degree? The police aren’t even required to help you when you’re in danger, and aren’t liable if they don’t. Case in point: Parkland HS cop refused to enter the building to end a mass murder.
Moral of the story, you’re better off concealing and keeping your own ass safe whether it’s legal to do so or not. Better to be a good citizen and not play by the rules because the bad guy isn’t going to play by the rules either.

Texas is a constitutional carry state and had concealed carry prior to that, because of that, crime has decreased in Texas by over 25%. Including less murders, rape, burglaries and agg assaults. I think the proof is obvious. The only places where Texas has had the mass shootings, was in wal mart (used to be gun free) church (used to be gun free) and schools (used to be gun free) Now Texas has passed a law that churches are an extension of your home so you are allowed to carry, wal mart now allows open carry by legal gun owners, and Texas law now allows teachers to carry on campus when approved by the boards which most do approve except some liberal districts around Austain and Dallas. And because of these changes' shootings have all but disappeared in those previous gun-free zones. Good, trained people with guns make bad people with guns go somewhere else. Its common sense.
