I tell you what. I’m 60 years old And I commend you for your hard work and motivation! Follow that dream! One more winter and u might be ready to stay full time! If someone could either loan or get u a bobcat, u could get so much doe and road built up to get u better access! If not you need a 4 wheeler! Regardless,it will fall into place! God bless and stay warm! I’m a veteran with severe anxiety and being around people! I understand what you mean brother! Stay safe!😉💪🏻✊🏼🤟🏼🫡🫡❤️

I'm a hermit, and chronically ill. Im on my bed almost 24/7. You taking me out with you, there, ...It is gorgeous there. It is relaxing to watch, and I feel the exact same social anxiety, around most people. I'm not of the tempo of todays world, and I prefer my solitude. Although I do have a hubby and a cat. He too is ill and a hermit. Together we avoid the world. It's okay, to not quite fit where others would have you. Kudos to you for finding your own spot, your own companion, and your own happy, content, and even also sad feelings. They're all allowed to BE.
The beauty of your spot over there... it is awesome. So much green. It feeds the soul with health. Even for me, just watching.

    Huge respect 🙏
I am 51 now, and have always felt the need to escape into the woods. Grew up with my own childhood story. I hunt, fish, work in the Oilfield in order to spend as much time in the "bush" as much as possible. Away from civilization wherever possible.....
So watching your channel gives me a sense of peace actually. And also gives me the motivation to fulfill my goal for a "cabin in the woods" haha

I look forward to each one. Prayers and hugs from an old grandma who survived the 60's, 70's, 2 divorces, raising 4 children alone and wishing for my getaway in the woods. Thank you for sharing. ❤

It's nice to know that the local people can see your progress with the cabin. You never know someone might offer you a brilliant job too.
I can't believe you actually get to name the road that's not a road 😂.
Dobby definitely needs her name somewhere.
That view is getting more and more of a dream, the more we see it❤.

Actually, now that you mentioned that you don't show yourself much on camera, I realized I like that. It's always a first person view of what is going on. It makes whatever you are doing the focus, not the human doing it but the work itself. Interesting!

I think you should name your place "Apple Jack"...some of the first settlers in America made hard cider because the apple trees were so plentiful..and the harsh winters turned the apple juice into hard cider. Considering where you live withe the harsh winters and all the apple trees, I think that would be the perfect name.

Dobby’s Orchard and Dobby’s Lane sound so cute. I’m quite a solitary person like you, I enjoy my own company and being able to do what I want when I want and I don’t get lonely. I wouldn’t show my face on camera either, I wouldn’t feel comfortable so don’t think you have to and do whatever sits right with you. You’ve done so much already and all on your own too! Well done Tyler, you’re a super hero 💛 sending a hug from England 🏴󠁧󠁢󠁥󠁮󠁧󠁿

When the van finally gives up the ghost, if it is home, I'd use it as a sort of emergency shelter somewhere between the cabin closer to the main road. This way if you find yourself trapped by bad weather you have a shelter.
It's understandable that you might not be prepared to spend your first winter there, just make sure to plywood shut your windows (to deter vandalism, at least the larger more expensive ones) and let your neighbours know you won't be there all the time over the winter.
I don't think it's a bad thing that you don't appear on camera all the time, I totally understand what you mean about preferring to be alone and not wanting to be the center of attention.
And remember, this is your land, this is your bit of earth. It's great to get feedback from viewers but they will always be 1 vote to your 2. The viewers might tell you to paint the walls blue but you like brown, so paint them brown. In the end you're the one who will be living there long after you've moved on from the channel.
Great videos, I look forward to keep watching as long as this adventure continues. ~Kevin

We stumbled on your page when we were looking for homesteading advice. We LOVE following you and look forward to your videos. My BF and I lost our home in the BC Kamloops fires in 21' and were not able to rebuild and got priced out of BC. I had driven across Canada twice, living in my truck, and I went with my blind French (He passed sadly) and I knew there were many amazing places to restart. We found a beautiful fixer upper property in Saskatchewan and are slowing working our way to try to become fully sufficient as well! We talked about making a channel like this, but my bf and I also suffer for anxiety so I give you huge props to being brave at making these amazing and captivating videos.
What made me finally comment is because of you asking about farm names. My bf suggested "Dobbing for Apples" and I thought it was adorable so had to share it. Being a Frenchie lover, I know how much they steal your heart and having a namesake to your journey to your farm is a heartwarming idea. Look forward to your next video and just know, it absolutely makes our day!!!

Drywall has got to be the worse in a building that is not kept heated. The stuff is like a wick or sponge when it comes to dampness. It will suck up the moisture and where it’s not heated,it can’t dry out well enough so mold starts growing. Guess insulation would be the same way. The people that owned the place we live put drywall in the non heated garage and it is the same way.

I would suggest if you really want to be self-reliant that you look into acquiring a couple of ponies for packing and pulling and manure for any future gardens. Looks to me like your place has sufficient pasture. I am 75 and I still use ponies to get around and pull in the winter firewood. Cheers and blessings.

You might want to grab a couple 6' sections of 12" diameter(or bigger) culvert pipe, and lay it IN those streams that are crossing your road, that way you can fill the road to dry, and let the water keep flowing?

I’m thinking so. I’ve kinda delayed the water/power projects because I feel like there’s ALOT I need to learn from that creek! 🙏🫶

I want to listen to your ’rambling’, it’s fun. 😅. Your home is really beautiful. Don’t ever apologise for not being here, especially when you are struggling with mental health issues. I’ve been there!

Dobby's Orchard Farm would be a great name. And name the road Orchard Farm Road. Or Tydobby Road. Is my first name choice, so it represents you both. I have never lived anywhere that gets that cold in the winter, but I do know it requires a lot of firewood to be able to keep warm enough, so if you're planning on staying, I would focus all of your time on harvesting all the down trees that are dried out enough for firewood. But I'm sure you know more about that than I do. The running creek is my favorite, just so beautiful. I could live there without getting lonely as well, but I don't care much for crowds of people. I look forward to your next video

Super happy to hear you're going with the Rockwool, I was one of those comments. Quick tip, get yourself a cheap $15 electric knife to cut it, it cuts like bread and is WELL worth the price difference just for ease of working with it. Keep up the amazing work and I love seeing all the subs pile on, you've gained over 13,500 since I subbed!

I think you are on the right track, the way the world is going you are out of the way . Slow and steady wins the race, you are young and a hard worker you have got it sorted out quite a bit already. Definately Dobby road ,Dobby Farm ,Dobby cider.😂👍🇬🇧it’s unthinkable for a young person like you to be able to buy a home and parcel of land like you have in the UK. So it makes it really watchable for us Brits🇬🇧

You have lots of apple trees. If you learn to make good apple cider, you can sell or trade it for almost anything.

Great progress video, love knowing that you are getting some help from local people, hopefully lifelong friends. Homesteading goes a lot easier with a community network of people working with the same objective. Great start, can't wait for the next update.👍❤

I definitely don't agree with that saying happiness is only real when shared. We can make our own happiness or I would just give up. Glad you're getting some help.

Love the names you are suggesting. Got my vote for Dobby anything lol. Looks like you have make some good progress on the house and the orchard. Really good prep for next year. I have to agree, having lived in Nova Scotia most of my early life I am not sure you will want to push living there throughout this first winter. All the hassles have you too far behind schedule. Go with your plan B.

I am really enjoying the videos. I am from NS so its great to see someone enjoying the nature that Cape Breton has to offer. I was wondering what made you move to CB from the west coast? I would guess that you could have bought a similar property on Vancouver Island (or even one of the surrounding islands or mainland), was it just a really good price?

I’m actually from Rural Ontario. So the winters here are quite similar. I was out in BC for a few years working. Rainy winters are quite gloomy in BC and the cost of living, people, nature, food, views, oceans, trails are endless in NS.

If you wanna get your van up that road take cement bags and put in toll sacks and place in low areas the water will make it hard. This will make a stable hard surface

You need a good dependable four wheel drive vehicle. A small farm tractor or Skid Steer with a 6 ft bush hog is a must. You can control your immediate environment with those. It' just money but money well spent.
