Back to use again. Love the video it worked a treat last time I could get some so as I bought some for my birthday I needed to refresh my memory. Thanks again CJ
I know this video is older, but as long as you dont unplug the temp probe after cooking you can sit the steak on a cutting board rather than in the grill and it will continue to show the rest countdown. When i want to grill meats in my ninjas, this channel is my go to 😎
Thanks for the review on the Ninja Foodi XL Grill! I won this during Christmas and it has been sitting in it's box, will def. bring it out to cook our Tomahawk steak!!
Oh ya Brother your the man, XL Grill in the house! Chop Chop that good stuff. I am mixing the presets with the manual mode, I find that I flip around 90ish when in manual mode. I did preset medium rare 5, the carryover temp went up about 10 degree's, I wish it would keep showing the temperature after holding manual button done for a few seconds. I made chicken breasts and they come out awesome and cooked perfect with Lawry's seasoning or Louisiana Air Fry Coating.
Yeah I agree. I think I’ll stick with number 3 on the preset going forward. The carry over is a lot. I need to mess with the manual. Thanks for watching!
Just got two tomahawks to cook in my new to me maxi grill. Have been following you for several years. Thank you. Shame most of your rubs don’t get to UK. CHEERS CJ
On my Ninja Foodi Grill (with the temperature probe) I always pull mine off around 100 to 105 degrees and they always seem to rise another 25-30 degrees while resting..
Seems like the opposite for me I set mine for the preset but every time I do it seems like I can't get mistakes to be cooked the way I'd like them I mean the steaks are good and the grill works really well however I guess a little bit of operator error is going on I'm still trying to learn and if there's any advice that I could get for putting three Delmonico's on this XL that'd be helpful
Mine is on the way as I type this. I can’t believe how those turned out. I didn’t expect an indoor grill to be able to give a char like that. May I suggest letting them rest on a cutting board rather than on the grates? I bet they kept cooking and that may have played a role in them turning out a little more done than you preferred (I prefer ribeyes medium though! So this video made my heart skip a beat) Thanks for making it 👍🏻
This is so crazy!! I bought some tomahawks yo make for Father's Day tomorrow, the weather is CRAZY WINDY (65mph winds) I can't use the grill tomorrow so I RUSHED to Walmart to find an indoor one and took a chance on the foodie xl! Then I got to googling and found your video! Can we baste while grilling???
Love this video..subscribed for more in the future! Also, was checking if that XL Njnja grill was good..I think I'm convinced now..Not looking to do fancy things but real juicy grilled steaks!
CJ do you agree that the thicker the steak the better color you get outside before coming to temp? Rest period? Maybe cook the steak right after the fridge or is room temperature better? How to achieve good char color before the med rare temp
Usually I let them sit out for 30 min before I cook them. I try to keep them even and always cook to internal temp. I let med rare, so I try to pull them at 125 internal, and let the carryover get it to 130. Not sure if that answered all your questions or not. But thanks for watching!
Day 1 ...my Mother inlaw just bought us the XL Grill cause our apartment doesn't allow Bbqing outside 😒. Now that I see your show on how the foodi performs EXCELLENT! Dude those Tomahawks look Bomb yo !.....
I just found your channel while browsing around trying to decide if I should buy the XL grill. I don't have the original or the xl. Watched some of your videos but I thought you were going to post where to purchase these Wagu steaks?
You can use the same temp in the original foodi grill. Timing would just depend on how you like your steak. I would get a thermometer, so you can check your temps. I usually start with 10 min setting, and check the internal temp after 5 min. You can judge it from there.
New to the channel so you have answered this before but size wise it looks long and shallow vs the old model which is deeper. Have you tried baking and dehydrating in the XL? Overall which one do you recommend, Original or Smart XL.
Here’s what I tell people. If you’re going to use the grill feature a lot, then get the XL. If you plan on using all of the other features more, then the original will work great.
What are the outside dimensions? I can't find that or the weight on the Ninja website. I have the 5 in 1, but I want to know how it compares with the weight and dimensions.
I would say if you’re going to grill more than anything else, get the XL. But if you use all the other features more, then stick with the original. And clean up is the same, more or less.
These look good...I find don't have out door grill but I find that after I get my steaks to room temp...I throw them on George foreman grill just to get lite sear before air frying they have a more tender texture. I'm need to try that seasoning out
Hey there any comments about the XL vs other ninjas. Is it worth it to pay extra dollars for XL? Any comments re other functions? Air fry basket size in XL compared to other Ninjas?
Damn that is delish looking. Think I drooled when you had it to close to the camera. Never had one, but if I get one of these I will look at our butchers. Stay safe & take care of you all. Thanks for sharing eh :))
@@CookingWithCJ the tomhawk ( looked great) should have stopped at the cook to med rare. Even with a phone call, I be interested if you redid with reg ribeye to one less on cook chart to compare. Thanks love your videos
@@CookingWithCJ what size were yours? Also mine was a little over cooked as well. I don’t know exactly how accurate the preset temps are as well as the thermometer. Like when you cooked yours. It said 115 degrees on it at one point as the target temp. But medium rare is 130. And your steak still came out over cooked. I might just have to try out rare one day. Here soon and see what happens.
Damn it bro do you really got to have these stakes this early in the morning. Here I am working now I want to go home and eat some steak. Damn You Man!!!
Awesome video as usual cj. Can’t wait to see more of this grill from you. I’m going to order one off your channel. Do you know how long it took to get to your house from order date? It really doesn’t say on their website
Curious as to why you let it rest on top of the heating element instead of pulling them out and letting them rest on the cutting board. I think that is why they came out medium instead of medium rare.
I get it. I really enjoyed your presentation. Those steaks looked fantastic! Wondering if, you were going to use the resting feature, you had set them to rare or the lighter medium rare setting, and then “rested” on the grill...if that would’ve made a difference. I really like the look and functions of the new XL grill. I’m going to have to get me one. 👍🏻👍🏻
@@CookingWithCJ lol Im not asking you bro, Im telling you. Look in the manual. The probe has two separate sensors, one on the tip one further in. Youre supposed to stick it all the way to the rubber.
I didn’t have the temp probe on the original. So I couldn’t tell ya. But I prefer to use my wireless thermometer when I cooking. Just used it on the video for demonstration. Thanks for watching.
Methinks you should have taken the meat out and let it rest on the cutting board. Resting while on the grill's what caused the over cook. That said, I'd have eaten it too!!!
@@CookingWithCJ I think the resting feature calls for removing the meat before letting it rest. That's why it says 'GET FOOD" before the resting counter starts.

What does the inside lid look like after? Is it hard to clean?
It’s not hard to clean. I’ll be doing a video on cleaning it eventually.
Looks medium well to me. Does it read the temp of steaks or you have set to factory settings?
It was medium. The prob monitors the internal temp and the grill shuts off when the preset setting gets hit.
