  • On this video we use our New Ninja Foodi Smart XL Grill to grill up a couple ribeye steaks! We also tested the smart thermometer probe on these steaks. We set the doneness to med-rare and the probe worked like a charm. They were both perfectly grilled all the way through.

    Tried this tonight with longhorn grill seasoning, brined it in kosher salt for an hour and uses New York strips. We did well done.
    They were perfect! I’d love to try that seasoning you have tho. I also cooked your roasted rosemary potatoes with it...sooooo good! I am loving this xl grill!

    I just watched your videos on the new Ninja Foodi XL.. I love the First one and now this one looks to be just as good as it. The only thing that I noticed is the Depth of the new one. Like you said in the video, I do not think that you will be able to cook anything that is tall inside. I really like that they made it wider so you can cook more food at the same time, which helps. You are the man when it comes to these Videos... Good Cooking to you and keep up the good work... Thanks Bill...

    A few bits I'd like to add: Walmart (haven't seen it elsewhere) has the XL model for quite a bit less, but it is model FG550 instead of FG551. FG551 is a "6 function" grille, while FG550 is a "4 function" grill. It lacks "Dehydrate" and "Broil," if you can live without those. Otherwise, everything is the same. Given that it's just one heating element at the top with a fan above it, I'm not sure what difference the "functions" do, other than provide different temperature ranges. I went for the FG550 and saved $80.
    I have the original, and just bought the XL FG550. The grill plate for the XL is HEAVIER than the one for the original -- by a few ounces. I haven't noticed any differences in the results I've gotten with the two different grills.
    If you don't plug the temperature probe in, the XL won't even display any of the Rare/Medium Rare/etc. stuff -- i.e., it works EXACTLY like the original one without the probe.
    The ONLY reason I spent another $200-ish for the XL was because the "cooking pot" in the original is enormous. All that "depth" meant that I absolutely, positively could not possibly get it to fit into my dishwasher. Not an issue for some folks, but I want to put everything in the dishwasher. The cooking pot in the XL fits in my dishwasher with ease, leaving plenty of room for all of the other parts, and a whole bunch of other stuff. Whenever I tried (and got poor results) to squeeze the original pot in my dishwasher, it took up an entire half of the bottom rack. The XL simply allowed me to have a Foodi Grill and use a dishwasher like I normally would. As far as I'm concerned, unless you need a LOT of height (original is about twice as "tall" as the XL pot), I recommend the XL. If you DON'T have something "tall" in there, it is a royal pain to try and dig something out, turn it around, and so on, with it way down at the bottom of that tall original pot. With the XL, everything is right there in front of you, easy to deal with. I'll never, ever go back to the original one.

Thinking about pulling the trigger on this grill. 2 questions - 1) how many thick cut bacon strips can you cook at once? 2) wife likes her steaks with ZERO red but I’m with you on med rare - easy to switch the thermometer from one steak to the other and keep cooking in this gadget and still get a reliable result? Im coing it tonight. Medium rare, how many minutes did yours take? I’s ar boiled some potatoes and im tossing them in next to the steak. Figured to get some color on the potatoes, onion and if i have room some asparagus. Only one steak, my husband and i share since we are not big eaters. I thought id pull the steak out at 135° and figured the carryover cook would take it to 145°

    I'm so excited to get that!! Please keep making more videos!! How about salmon? Does it do a whole pan of brownies and cake? Can you use a regular 9×13 pan? I wanna see actually how many steaks you can actually hold in that grill. Cause it looked like only 2 could still fit. Can you also do a detailed distance between the heating element and the grill plate. How much room do you think it has? Is the watts higher then the previous model? Sorry so much questions. April

    So do you really only have to use the thermometer on one of the steaks to gauge the rest? May be such a dumb question but I have yet to use my foodie XL and wondered how I’d do multiple steaks- it just occurred to me 😂

  • @krisbedgood6055
    @krisbedgood6055 4 ปีที่แล้ว

    Smaller heating element, thinner grill with less thermal capacity, and larger surface area with more food that requires more heat. Let's not forget the reduced cooking depth of the unit. No thick foods for you. Forget about baking with additional pans. OH NO! What idiot designed this. Does it even get to 500 degrees. The first unit was so successful how could they screw with it like this. I'll buy two of the original units before I buy this heat lacking pancake cooker.

    Hi CJ.. question.... when you opened'er up after the unit said it had reached temp and used your outside thermometer to check.. I couldn't quite tell, did you say that you cooked the steaks a little longer, then rested with that rest feature... or did you let them cook a little longer "in" the rest feature. I know you said they could be a little more done and wanted to let them go a couple seconds longer (4:40). Thank'ya.... great review and the steaks, be still my heart! Yum

    • @CookingWithCJ
      @CookingWithCJ  4 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      I did say I was going to let it go for a little longer, but noticed the rest mode, so I just let it set in the rest mode to come up to temp. Thanks for watching!

      I’m still getting to know the new xl grill, but I’ve been saying, if you plan on grilling a lot, then get the xl. If you just use the grill sparingly and air fry or bake in it, you can probably get away with the original.

  • @timlance4603

    I don't know about it the depth of it seems a little shallow for cooking a good size roast or a whole chicken like the original one, I'll have to watch some more of your video's cooking with it before I'll be getting it. You know there's also the Ninja double air fryer basket cooker, that I'm kind of interested in too.
