my 04 explorer with 4WD has been wonderful. bought with 162k, at 212k. I never use the 4WD, but it's there for winter just incase. Never had any real issues. I've off roaded it a little harder than it's designed for, so a wheel bearing was shot after a trip to Moab. Some greater than normal suspension wear. Nothing wild.

Bought my 2019 Mustang with the 10 speed (2nd year they came out with the 10speed) . No issues with mine
At 50k I had the trans fluid changed.
I wanted to stay ahead in the maintenance on the 10 speed.
Always believed that if you take care of your vehicle, it will take care of you.
And as of typing this, I now have 53k on the odometer, and I’m still getting between 45-49mpg on the highway on pump ‘93.
Gonna change the spark plugs next weekend so I believe I will probably get back to my 50 mpg on the highway.
Moral of this, is that if you take care of your vehicle and don’t beat on them they will last a long time.
I would know, my other car is a ‘12 Honda accord (bought brand new in ‘12) and in the 114,000 I had on it (4years ago) the only thing I had to change (besides tires and brakes) because it started out small and I caught it early was a small coolant leak from the bottom rad hose.
I replaced them both (upper and lower + the thermostat).
Still have the car till this day, and still drives like a dream.✌🏼

BMWs are only very popular because they all look very flashy and stylish no matter which one you get. Ive seen people buy BMWs that have no idea about cars since they buy them even with CEL and not knowing what the CEL is for. But hey they got a BMW and they can tell all their friends that they own one so they are praised for no reason.

The all black, 1991 Mustang GT I had from new, a 5.0L V8, 5sp. manual, got 25.4 mpg on the highway going 70 mph with the A/C on in 90°F weather. I had frost forming on the inside of the windshield. 😂
IIRC, it had 2.73 gears in the limited slip differential.

    • @kennetho5393
      @kennetho5393 11 หลายเดือนก่อน

I believe it. I've had two 4.6 Mustangs 5 speed manuals that could easily get 28 mpg at 75 mph in most conditions and I always run the a/c or heat. My current 5.0 DOHC can only get about 26 but that's cause the 3.73s kill fuel economy above 70, which I rarely do below 75 I have seen 28 at 70 though.

Had an X5 after owning a 740iL and a 528. Can verify that the X5 is a terribly expensive vehicle as it ages. Mine had the big V8, which had a big $750 gasket that had to get replaced at 100k miles... waited as long as I could but it was losing a quart of oil every couple weeks (!!). The 740iL wasn't much better, the serpentine belt blew under the hood and tore apart everything, plus it had a water-cooled alternator, because why not mix water and electricity. Find a manual 3-series without AC and there's your ultimate driving machine.

I had a 02 and 05 one reg the other Eddie Bauer edition and both transmissions went flaky at 120k
The 02 was a manual switch to turn on/off 4\4 but just Flat Stopped
    No warning
    The 05 had buttons/auto
    4/4 and that one kept turning 4/4 on/off on/off
    By itself in any weather!
But still drove it 120k to 170k like that
Before putting in new rear leaf springs and reman trans and sold it.
Was told the shift solenoids are deep inside the trans and if I had just managed to keep on top of my trans fluid drain/fill
I wouldn’t have the slippage as early as I did

We have a 2014 Explorer with all wheel drive. We have 95,000 miles on it and it is running just fine. We live in MN and a 2 wheel drive is just not practical in the winter. Finding a 2 wheel drive around here is quite difficult as few want them. Transmissions require maintenance. Let the fluid get old and you will pay for it.

Nissan Altimas are good cars if you take care of them. My parents have one with over 200k miles and only had to do basic maintenance - oil changes, tires, and brakes. Lexus RX is the biggest money pit. I owned one for only 6 months and I spent more money fixing it than all my other vehicles I ever owned combined. It spent more time in the shop than me driving it, I only put 2k miles on it over 6 months. And it still had nothing but problems, I practically had to give it away just to get rid of it.

Also, for some cars that don't have a heat shield on the inside of the hood, it will prevent the hood paint from going bad.

I owned a 2003 Ford Explorer 4 wheel drive for nearly 13 years. It was the best and most realiable vehicle I ever owned. Never had a single engine problem, only replaced a window regulator and lock acuator. Replaced the shocks around 130k miles. When I sold it a few years ago, it was still running great, but did have some rust underneath and peeling paint at top. Most reliable vehicle out of last 6 vehicles I owned and made me a loyal Ford customer. The new Ford Explorers feel like a soccer mom SUV and didn't care much for them, so I got a F150 truck which I love!

My friend talked me out of it. He said, hey, it's a great deal no doubt, but....Honda/Toyota/Hyundai/Kia cars we rate as Class A reliability. BMW is class F. I actually bought a new Nissan Kicks that has a JATCO transmissions. My dad and I have been saying for years to avoid Nissan due to that, but I really had no choice. I have a coworker that had an early 2010s Altima where the transmission went out after and I advised him to get the transmission serviced when he started having slippage issues and I didn't. My coworker ended up totaling the Altima because it needed too much work and the transmission put him over budget to fix that car. I should have taken my own warnings about Nissan but... It was either that or buy a Kia/Hyundai that is easily stolen (more expensive too), or spend well over my budget, or get a Nissan Sentra or Kicks. I was able to get a good price on the Kicks. The F&I guy got me a free all inclusive oil change/maintenance plan (3 scheduled services at the recommended mileage over 3 years). I feel slightly better with the dealer looking after my car that it has the potential to last me up to 10 years/100k miles.

My grandpa has always been obsessed with BMWs and Mercedes even though they are money pits and a pain in the butt to work on. He's also the type of person that wants to spend a week tearing apart a car and trying to fix it himself before he gives up. I had a older model Mercedes that had some type of sensor issue that we tried fixing to no avail, sent it to our local shop that worked on Mercedes exclusively. They said they couldn't figure it out and had to wait on an electronics guy to come in and look at the car. That car sat in the corner of their shop for OVER A YEAR. I was a teenager at the time and I hadn't seen the car in so long I was convinced my grandpa had sold it. It ended up creating more issues from sitting so long. Worst part is the shop said the electronics dude claimed he probably had done the job correctly, my grandpa just cheaped out and bought some chinese part that didn't work. Had we done the same thing with an actual Mercedes part it wouldn't of sat there that long. He's gotten newer BMWs... either the a3 or a5 can't remember, two separate cars of the same make and model just different years. The first one is completely bricked because the steering column is permanently locked and now he's had the newer ones in the shop 4 times in the last two weeks. All that said, can't give him too much grief as I drive my VW lol.

Scotty Euro cars are much easier to work on now days because parts are easier to get knowledge is all over the internet. I think you'd be surprised of how different it is today compared to the 80s & 90s. Euro cars like all cars have there strengths & weaknesses but I wouldn't say a VW, BMW, AUDI are cars to avoid in America like they used to be. Now I don't own a BMW SUV but if I found one with a naturally aspirated motor thats not direct injection with out a turbo thats been relatively well maintained I would buy it. I do admit that some mechanics just assume since you drive a BMW your rich & they may try to stick it to you but working on these cars isn't much different & if your a good mechanic your a good mechanic. I've seen some mechanics claim they wont touch European Cars but when they are tasked & give in they realize they are that hard to work on. You can get the tools these things require for the same price as American Standard.
