I am the original owner of a 4 Runner, 2004 with a 4.7 V8, sport edition. 184 K Miles. Yes, timing belt change-- on my third. I have never had any issues at all. Tight! Drives as if it were new! Most miles were highways. Total Toyota quality! I have maintained it to the extreme degree, full synthetic oil its whole life, differential the same. Transmission total flush at 65 K-drain and drain and fill after. It has to last because I am old and cannot afford to buy new. It is my baby, I love it. When I die, whoever gets it will have a gem. I use a good shop for maintenance. One of the mechanics offered me 20 K for my baby! He knows what shape it is in. No rust at all as I live in Western Oregon. I also put in after-market leather, and heated front seats.

Big fan myself of the Toyota hybrid system but depending on how much you drive a year it could take 6/8/10 years to pay off the drivetrain premium. That being said the convenience of not having to fill up so often and getting a high mpg feels good and is what I would choose too haha. Enjoy the new ride!

I was a financial analyst for a manufacturing company, and we had 1 of our 6-7 plants in Mexico. We would run reports to determine what the cost per measurement was for each plant each month.
Sure, the labor in our plant in Mexico was 1/3rd of one of our U.S. plants, but there were several issues that ate the savings and made that plant less cost efficient as our 2 best U.S. plants.
Turnover was way too high. This negatively impacted the quality of the product, which increased the number of products that couldn't be sold and warranty claims.
There were several other problems, but the turnover is what caused quality issues, IMO.

Having a Ford with a stop/start function, I can honestly say that is the most insane feature I have ever seen on a vehicle. They literally designed the thing to give you are chore every single time you start the car. -lean down, turn the function off. Literally the action that damages your car the most(starting it) and they want you to do it over and over again as you drive in town. For what? to save 1 penny for every stop sign you get to? Insanity.

I bought a new 2023 Honda Odyssey EX in June. 280 hp 3.5L V6, 10 speed automatic transmission, front wheel drive, 144.9 cubic feet of cargo space, over 30mpg highway (EPA rated 28 mpg, but I have taken several road trips, and with smooth traffic on cruise control I have gotten 33-35 mpg at times), 18 inch alloy wheels with all season tires, several safety alert systems, made in USA, and tons of other features. The switch for most of the start/stop systems I've seen is nothing more than a momentary switch. Usually it's no more complicated than shorting the terminals together permanently and then it's off until you undo that On my dad's F-150 we attached wires and mounted a toggle switch under the dash to control the function, so that when it goes in for service, he can turn that function back on and it acts according to expectations. Much better than always getting annoyed at the first stop light on every drive.

@ironclaw6969 crazy ain’t it? I’m in UK they put that crap on cars too luckily it’s not on our Ford but it’s a dumb feature. If I end up in a proper jam like an accident I’ve got sense to switch car off as long idling no good for any car. But just stopped at lights or waiting at a junction it’s just gonna wear out starter motor etc,,,how it is supposed to save fuel or be greener I can’t believe they added such a naff feature to cars. Mind you world these days. Mind you like Scotty showed us those Tesla with no dash behind wheel it’s all on a screen in the centre, so you got to look away from the road to check speed, fuel etc Elon supposed to be this genius makes cars where people forced to look away from the road rather than be able to just glance down at the wheel. Unbelievable. Fair play whey you did on your dads F-150.

Every vehicle is different. I know with the Civic, you have to take the shifter apart and install a module. Just wish they made the system optional instead of always shoving this crap down people's throats that don't want it.

Have had many fords, mostly Ranger and Mustang. 1 Crown Victoria and never had an engine failure. 2.3, 4.0 and 3.0 on the Rangers and got as many as 250.000 mies. The Ranger trucks are bullet proof with ball joints, clutch, of course battery tires and brakes. The Crown Vic needed a new intake manifold(2000) and was expected. At 125.000 miles ran like new. Every Ford bought never left us on the road. 4.6 liter engine on the Crown, it had the plastic intake that should have been a recall replaced when cracked and started spewing coolant on the coil pack. Once fixed like new. These cars can run 300,000 miles with marginal up keep. They are still transporting people as Taxis in every major city in the U.S. They are also still used by the government because of the longevity and the bullet proof design.

I looked at getting a Ford Maverick for a while, but I decided that the Santa Cruz was a much better choice. The standard engine is a lot stronger than the Maverick’s hybrid and the interior was MUCH more refined. Maverick’s have had issues with the seat fabric separating from the cushions.
Hyundai also has a better warranty and the infotainment system is waaaaay better than what the Maverick has.
Also… you get a smaller cooler in the bed and don’t have to wait for the limited production schedule that the Maverick has.
If I were looking at a fleet truck for my business, then I would definitely go with the Maverick. The Santa Cruz is just a better personal vehicle all around.

When it comes to start/stop: one of the tips I've learned on my Ford Bronco, you CAN get it to automatically have start/stop off, if you leave it in sport mode. Technically when the car starts up next time, it will ask if you want to keep it in sport mode, and you do technically have to press ok on the steering wheel. But then it prompts you every time you start the car so you remember, rather than remembering after it shuts off at the first stop. 😂
