I never played Sm4sh so Ultimate is my first chance trying some of those "new" characters and... just based on what I've seen online in Ultimate, without videos like these, I'd have no idea how certain characters like Rosalina or Bayonetta could ever be decent. Certain "new" characters from Sm4sh like Bowser Jr. and Little Mac feel easy to pick up, although the results are mixed. Trying to learn how to play as the more technical characters like Bayonetta and Shulk both doesn't look easy to learn, and they just don't seem particularly strong, so as someone who never played them in the previous game, there's little incentive to try them. Even with Shulk, though, I still match against some really good Shulks who beat my ass, but I think I've literally beaten every Bayonetta I've ever fought in Ultimate... It's a real shame because she looks like a cool character, but everything I've seen and heard tells me she sucks now.
Kinda wished you talked about sheik and Diddy for a bit. Both were nerfed, sure, but they were still busted after that. (I wanna add something after over a week. Sheik wasn't busted in the same way cloud or Bayo were. She was broken in the way that her neutral was beyond amazing, her combos were 2nd only to Bayo, she had multiple early kill confirms out of her amazing neutral, most of them ending in a bouncing fish, she could edgeguard most characters effectively (fair, nair, bair, needles, bouncing fish) in a game where edgeguarding was very poor compared to other smash games, her own recovery was long and had many mix ups, her ledge trapping was also solid. The disadvantages are she's very light and hard to master.)
@@roderrickgaming9949 > Best projectile in the game, Diddy with a banana on shield could punish everything > one of the dumbest dtilts in the game, safe, spammable and with kill confirms unitl 160 > side b with multiple built in mixup, barely any lag > fair and dair extremely good and safe for walling out, both could combo and kill > hoo hah was still a thing Yea diddy wasn't busted
And could easily be true combo'd out of using up air. I mean it does in Ultimate too, but you actually have to hit a landing down air, which unless you are playing against a heavy or Mewtwo, isn't happening.

Lest we forget, Pac-Man's grab. Takes way too many frames, and the hitbox is practically nonsensical. And it leaves him open. Fortunately, Ultimate fixed that, so he's viable now.
It had three parts and none of them were out at the same time, so you could walk through his grab. It was so dumb. His grab nowadays is actually really good. It's laggy in exchange for great range and a long lasting grab boxm
@@inksaneluke7099 Far from it, actually. At first, the meta was Pikachu + G&W. Thunderbolt filled buckets instantly and lethally. So they patched it out. Then, it was Cloud & Cloud. However, at SSC 2018(?), two Japanese players came out of nowhere with Lucas & Lucario. They worked so well with one another, they could pilot a Gundam together. Watching them play was beautiful. They beat all the Clouds and took 1st place. Nobody's been able to replicate their strategies so well.
Well if you think about it, almost everyone in smash 64 had a bad recovery. Maybe in a vacuum, smash 64 link had the worst recovery, but in comparison to those in the rest of each other's respective games, little Mac has a worse recovery in comparison to the rest of 4's cast.
@@king_alloy I guess that's true. Comparatively, having the worst recovery in a game with 12 characters isn't as bad as having the worst recovery out of 58 characters.
I started with Melee, and it's my least favorite. I'm neutral in regards to the competitive scene, but I hate participating in any sort of competition myself. Brawl was the one that made me really into the series. All the hype whenever a new item, music or character popped up on the site, the trailer, all the cutscenes of Subspace Emissary, those are all precious to me. The only thing I miss about Melee is the Event mode.
@@OPickler Palu had one of the best rushdown tools in super-speed, and the absolute best mobility with lightweight. In the end Sakurai had to make a whole new game just to make her worse, I mean even after nerfs in smash 4, she was still busted (this video is after the nerfs and she’s still amazing) so she really doesn’t have any weakness.
Doge Fishron Bayonetta, Cloud, and Sonic. The unholy trinity of Smash 4 Also the 3 characters that got gutted the most in Ultimate. -Oh yeah, Rosalina was annoying too-
Paper Mario Sonic was extremely infamous for being annoying in Smash 4. It even led to the reputation Sonic mains have afterwards. Even Alpharad refuses to use Sonic. Though, Diddy was also gutted in Ultimate as well, so you're right I should've added him.
@@Cinko420 I see where your coming from. I just added diddy because in the grand scheme of things this character was extremely broken throughout the early sm4sh days and just as unfun later in the competitive scene. Sonic was very annoying and campy, but at least he didn't have early broken kill combos like hoo-hah (his up b up air only kills at high percents), and didn't have a move that could literally be top tier (banana). Sonic's spin dash and campiness were annoying, but he fell apart later on as more people figured out the mu, and even though I main him in ult, he was gutted to hell in ult and half of his moves don't even work, and unlike diddy he never got buffed. Sorry for the rant, I usually do this a lot hehehe!
Playing Kirby: "its not 64" Playing fox: "its not melee" Playing meta Knight: "its not Brawl" Playing bayo: "its not sm4sh" Playing Pichu: "its not ultimate patch 1.0"
This game just kept getting more broken as time went on. Patch balancing was done horribly, DLC characters were clearly overpowered and cheesy, the meta began to revolve around camping and fishing for grabs, and the competitive scene ended with fucking Bayo dittos at Evo. And still, somehow Sm4sh's online was better than Ultimate's.
Somehow Ultimate manage to do 1 thing that makes people prefer Smash 4 more: Making Ultimate's online so fucking broken and shitty that people unironically defend for glory. I can't blame them.
The first week after Bayo's patch literally every Bayo main was saying how they nerfed her too much and I find that week one of the funniest weeks in Smash 4 history.

The 3 big things missed imo, were: 1: Bowser's Turnaround grab had insane range. Clips show it reaching far beyond his hand. 2: Ganon's Flame Choke killed the opponent first, meaning you'd camp ledge as Ganon, and fish for it. 3. Lylat.

The only things I find problematic from Smash 4 are easily spammable air dodges, autolink jank, and specific characters that are too good. I do like that game's speed, pace and damage output much more than Ultimate.
@@Sardine_Sandwich Yeah, Smash Ultimate is basically Smash 4 but better in almost every way(aside from not having Smash Run). At least there is still an incentive to play the other games. Smash 64 because of nostalgia and game modes, Melee because of gameplay and game modes, and Brawl mainly because of Subspace. Each of those games have their own unique gameplay and style. It's like Ultimate is the TRUE sequel to Brawl while Smash 4 was just an appetizer.
Honestly, I hate his voice in every new smash game. 64 was too awkward Melee was the embodiment of rage and suffering Brawl didn’t really match the character Sm4sh was absolutely tacky Smash Ultimate... gets it just about right. Weird.

Lawless times, but Sm4sh on 3DS was what taught me the fundamentals to actually be skilled at the game after going on a whole Smash Hiatus since my childhood Brawl days. I played PM a bit just before getting Smash 4 but it was long after that scene died out and I pretty much only played it alone against CPUs. Smash 4's era was an era I'll never forget
Smash 3DS was the very first smash game I got, because the 3DS was my only nintendo game machine. I put tons of hours into it, because of how freaking fun it is, especially with friends. The online is still not too shabby. There are some players around. While the Ultimate is the Ultimate smash game, I'll always cherish the 3DS version, for giving me such good memories with my fiends.
I honestly hate competitive smash because of that game. Lag, rude players, no way to talk (though in some ways that's a good thing), and just an overall miserable feeling. I like Smash but that game has honestly made me never want to play it competitively ever again. It's just painful compared to other fighting games I know.
Notes: (📌📌📌) 0:42 - Rage still exists in Ultimate, but it only scales by 2/3 as much (and it still only reaches that max at 150%). It also doesn't apply to hits that have fixed knockback (knockback that doesn't scale with percent, like Roy's up-B first hit that was showcased in Melee is Broken) in Ultimate. (Rage still applies to non-fixed-knockback hits in stamina mode for some reason, though.) 1:08 - Lucario also had aura in Brawl. He actually has _less_ damage output until 70% [65% in Ultimate], and the knockback calculation actually multiplies the damage after the hit by 2 plus the damage the hit dealt: if a particular hitbox was charged (or the aura modifier applied) to deal 20% and hits someone at 100% (120 × 22), it's the same as if it was only charged to 10% and hit someone at 210% (220 × 12). Rage is applied after all the other stuff. (The 1v1 multiplier in Ultimate is ... weird.) 2:06 - Limit only lasts 15(?) seconds in Ultimate, which actually means that charging it can sometimes be a bad idea at high percents (Cloud's recovery is better with limit than without). 4:37 - Miis in Ultimate only have different stats based on their class: the Mii brawler is lighter than the Mii swordfighter, and the Mii swordfighter is lighter than the Mii gunner. Not by much, though. 6:15 - G&W's up-air is a multi-hit projectile instead of a 2-hit direct attack in Ultimate, and it also basically _never_ KOs unless you're already at the top. If you know which way your opponent is going to DI, you can get a ridiculously long juggle off of up-air chains too. 6:53 & 11:34 - Both of these things are now techable in Ultimate. Some things aren't, though, such as the (new) Super Launch Star item and using B&K's side-B in the air with no feathers left. 8:51 - Witch Time lasts _much, much_ shorter in Ultimate. ‒:‒‒ - Bayonetta in Sm4sh had the only Final Smash to be able to KO without sending you anywhere (if you reach 100% by a certain part of its animation). A number of other characters (Bowser [at 60%, or 80% with FS meter], Zelda, Ridley, Joker [All-Out Attack ending a match with this kind of KO will actually not cut back to gameplay-it will just say "GAME SET" and cut to the victory screen, which is different in this case too], and Sora) have Final Smashes that share this property in Ultimate. (Hey, I _liked_ those kinds of KOs. There's a reason I like The Great Cave Offensive in 1v1s, 4-player, and 8-player battles alike.) ‒:‒‒ - Witch Time can also counter some moves that other counters and shields can't, with Little Mac's KO punch (you can't shield it for some reason) being a prime example. ‒:‒‒ - Ultimate's knockback physics are totally different for some reason, except for fixed-knockback hits (such as the top [the 18% part, not the OHKO part] of the train stage hazard in Mementos).
Even with the flaws and balancing issues Smash 4 had, without those flaws we probably wouldn’t have the wonderful game that is Smash Ultimate that we have today
Ultimate is very mediocre tbh Single player is poor and boring as hell, the only actually good things are classic mode and stage builder. The rest is ether forgettable or outright bad (WoL is worse than Smash Tour, Spirits are just Events done poorly) Gameplay wise is limiting and much less creative. Is less broken but less interesting at the same time, gimmicks are polarizing and the best way to deal with them is playing passively and not interacting with them The biggest thing Ultimate has is the number of characters. But that doesn't make a good game

This is so sadly true, the fact that she was added by popularity and ended forgotten in Ultimate shows how lame the community can be
@@pearlgalaxy I actually love her design and ahe is one of my favorite characters, but in Ultimate she just isn't fun to play, because nothing works
@@xolotltolox7626 I mean I still play Rosalina and she's ABSURDLY tricky to use now. I don't know much about Bayo, I thought she got buffed.
@@pearlgalaxy She got buffed multiple times, and her Witch Time is much better compared to Ultimate on Day 1, but it is still very difficult for her to do work.

Notes: (📌📌📌)
0:42 - Rage still exists in Ultimate, but it only scales by 2/3 as much (and it still only reaches that max at 150%). It also doesn't apply to hits that have fixed knockback (knockback that doesn't scale with percent, like Roy's up-B first hit that was showcased in Melee is Broken) in Ultimate. (Rage still applies to non-fixed-knockback hits in stamina mode for some reason, though.)
1:08 - Lucario also had aura in Brawl. (The 1v1 multiplier in Ultimate is ... weird.)
2:06 - Limit only lasts 15(?) seconds in Ultimate, which actually means that charging it can sometimes be a bad idea at high percents (Cloud's recovery is better with limit than without).
There's a reason I like The Great Cave Offensive in 1v1s, 4-player, and 8-player battles alike.)
‒:‒‒ - Witch Time can also counter some moves that other counters and shields can't, with Little Mac's KO punch (you can't shield it for some reason) being a prime example.
‒:‒‒ - Ultimate's knockback physics are totally different for some reason, except for fixed-knockback hits (such as the top [the 18% part, not the OHKO part] of the train stage hazard in Mementos).

Ultimate is very mediocre tbh
Single player is poor and boring as hell, the only actually good things are classic mode and stage builder. The rest is ether forgettable or outright bad (WoL is worse than Smash Tour, Spirits are just Events done poorly)
Gameplay wise is limiting and much less creative. Is less broken but less interesting at the same time, gimmicks are polarizing and the best way to deal with them is playing passively and not interacting with them
The biggest thing Ultimate has is the number of characters. But that doesn't make a good game
@@Mattroid99 you say "WoL is wis worse than Smash Run" like that's not to be expected.
Smash Run was my favorite thing to do.
@@CaptainCFalcon I meant Smash Tour lmao, Smash Run was amazing
Ah yes, my favorite character:
Cloud up air
The more I learn about Smash, the more Smash 4 terrifies me.
Dont worry eveyon hates smash 4
“It’s not broken. They’re just... surprise mechanics.”
"Its in the game so its a gameplay mechanic that the devs intended, not an exploit"
@@pizzatime9261 don't tell that to a melee fanboy.
isn't "surprise mechanics" what EA calls lootboxes
