Only because Meta Knight is more broken than the other characters, you still need to have skill to be able to use him but any good player can easily beat a Meta Knight.

The official Nintendo guidebook rated Meta Knight a 6/10 in how good he was. Marth was 9/10 and Link was 7/10. Gives you an idea of how well they understood how far characters could be pushed.
I'm reminded of Nintendo's mindset in the Wii era. Everything was very casual, with an attempt to appeal to non-gamers and non-hardcore gamers. In a Nintendo Power interview, Sakurai was asked, "which character do you feel that you dominate with?" He refused to answer, saying that he didn't view Smash as a competitive game that should be taken seriously, but as a sort of goofy, Mario Party-esque game where you could go from winning to losing in a heartbeat based solely on chance. I think he imagined a group of people sitting around and laughing happily when they trip and die, not spiking their Gamecube controllers into the floor. Even with that kind of mentality, I'm flabbergasted that anyone would program tripping into the game. Balls out insane.
@@marcusmcfall8167 Wrong on both accounts. I don't understand why people think it has to be one or the other. Melee especially was well designed for both casual and competitive. Some of the trophies you unlock give you tips that are clearly aimed at more serious 1v1 play. Hell they even balanced patched the PAL version. It's like the gold standard of entertaining competitive fighters, and it was also an amazing casual experience.

Tabuu is actually pretty easy to defeat on hardest difficulty. You just air dodge all his attacks. When he turns huge, you can stand right next to him and he can’t hit you.

The super gritty, realistic textures are the most early 2000s things ever. They did this allegedly to counter how weak the Wii was graphically and considering how well this game aged, it worked.

Yeah the problem is these pro players who only think about the competition. Smash was never meant to be a competitive game, it was meant to be a party game! A very strategic game, more than a lot of fighting games actually (since the difficulty comes from knowing how each move works rather than the difficult in its input), but not a competitive one. In fact a large chunk of every game is always kept outside of tournaments, namely the items and most stages. Being unbalanced might even be part of the fun, because it's an extra challenge to play as Ganondorf, or to play against Meta Knight. And that should be the ultimate goal: fun. But nope these people just want to compete and feel special, and take this game so seriously that they end up looking like whiny children.

Brawl is definitely unplayable competitively, but brawl always has a special place in my heart since it was my first smash game. Especially subspace emissary
ikagura Melee is unplayable period. Controls are stiffer than a well placed steal beam. Attack range is shorter than a goldfish's memory. The game is too frame perfect on basically everything. Is like playing an old game, and glitching to play. Most characters have it a hard time just trying to connect 2 hits. And the worst part is the f*cking fanbase. You can't say a goddamn thing about Melee without having a Melee f*g skinning you alive just for saying that it's a bad game. It's a broken game that people hold on to nostalgia for instead of moving on.
Brawl was my first smash game, I had so much fun with it and it’s introduced me to so many fun games and series It might be broken af but imo it had some of the best music
I always enjoyed this one to. But I am a more casual person by nature. But you still see competitions involving brawl as well, so it still has a competitive community either way. I remember just being saddened. My boy Roy did not get invited. And neither did Pichu. Sure Pichu sucked. But I wanted to play Pichu in a casual setting again.
I've played both melee and brawl growing up, i love them both. I have some pretty fond memories of online in brawl though, and Emissary was honestly way more fun than it should have been tbh.

It's just that top tiers are easier to use. You see with Ganondorf, he's slow and that's his biggest weakness but you have to know, not learn, KNOW how to use the character. Because I can tell you. You cannot learn to use Ganondorf. You can only know how to use him if he's gonna be effective.
Game may be broken, but I will stand by the fact that this games sound effects are the best out of all of them, there's just so much power behind each hit, all of that bassy goodness is in no other game, and if there were mods to replace the hitsounds in other games with Brawls sounds I would download it in a heartbeat.
Brawl: Personally, i prefer the air, where i beat the crap outta ya (falco) Tr4sh: personally, i prefer the various noxious gases that float above our heads and make us live. They certainly are nice, since i can fly in it. Oxygen, nitrogen, thermosphere, its so amazing.

He refused to answer, saying that he didn't view Smash as a competitive game that should be taken seriously, but as a sort of goofy, Mario Party-esque game where you could go from winning to losing in a heartbeat based solely on chance. I think he imagined a group of people sitting around and laughing happily when they trip and die, not spiking their Gamecube controllers into the floor.
Even with that kind of mentality, I'm flabbergasted that anyone would program tripping into the game. Balls out insane.

@@marcusmcfall8167 Wrong on both accounts. I don't understand why people think it has to be one or the other. Melee especially was well designed for both casual and competitive. Some of the trophies you unlock give you tips that are clearly aimed at more serious 1v1 play. Hell they even balanced patched the PAL version. It's like the gold standard of entertaining competitive fighters, and it was also an amazing casual experience.

Hitstun values are technically the same as they are in Melee and Smash 4, the difference is in Brawl the hitstun can be cancelled with airdodge (after 13 frames) or aerial attacks (after 25 frames), while these numbers are higher in Smash 4.

I thought brawl is pretty ambitious with all the features it had, Maybe not a great competition game but it was a really fun smash bros game.
Yeah the problem is these pro players who only think about the competition. Smash was never meant to be a competitive game, it was meant to be a party game! A very strategic game, more than a lot of fighting games actually (since the difficulty comes from knowing how each move works rather than the difficult in its input), but not a competitive one. In fact a large chunk of every game is always kept outside of tournaments, namely the items and most stages. Being unbalanced might even be part of the fun, because it's an extra challenge to play as Ganondorf, or to play against Meta Knight. And that should be the ultimate goal: fun. But nope these people just want to compete and feel special, and take this game so seriously that they end up looking like whiny children.
Story is the best,an excellent redeeming quality.

And no, imbalances are not fun, have you ever watched a competitive match of Brawl? The meta is so campy and dominated by a small part of the roster, that you don't even see enjoyable gameplay.
Even if most people dislike brawl's gameplay, everyone acknowledges the great things it did for the franchise like Subspace, some of the mechanics, third parties, online etc. But when the core gameplay is bad, it's normal to be disappointed and to voice your concerns so that they don't also plague the next game. And they listened, Smash 4 is much more beloved by the smash community(ies).
I don't have to be fair to people whose livelihood is playing games.
If you say imbalances are not fun because they break competitive play then you're missing my point: competitive play is wrong and shouldn't be there in the first place! It's their fault for playing a party game competitively, they have nothing to complain about, they should just shut up and get a real job.

I always enjoyed this one to. But I am a more casual person by nature.
But you still see competitions involving brawl as well, so it still has a competitive community either way. I remember just being saddened. My boy Roy did not get invited. And neither did Pichu. Sure Pichu sucked. But I wanted to play Pichu in a casual setting again.
I've played both melee and brawl growing up, i love them both.
I have some pretty fond memories of online in brawl though, and Emissary was honestly way more fun than it should have been tbh.

Ganondorf is still terrible, but he's fun to use.
Plus, Ganondorf isn't exactly the fastest character in the game, so his lack of mobility really brings him down.
I'm not defending the way Heeew used Ganondorf, because the way he was going in against Ivysaur wasn't ideal, but Ganondorf is still really bad.

What I'm trying to say is yes, he's bad, and from the surface he sucks. But if you know how to use him and dig a little deeper, he can be pretty good.

It's just that top tiers are easier to use. You see with Ganondorf, he's slow and that's his biggest weakness but you have to know, not learn, KNOW how to use the character. Because I can tell you. You cannot learn to use Ganondorf. You can only know how to use him if he's gonna be effective.
