I know absolutely nothing about this game, yet when I saw Vergil I said "He's busted, isn't he ?" That's what happens when you put a hack and slash (genre that's about combos, specially DMC, where your objective isn't defeat the hordes of enemies, but owning them and making it look easy) character in a fighting game. Give him a style meter for extra _motivation_

Thing is, Dante is pretty strong in UMVC3 but he's not broken. But in every DMC Vergil's been playable he's been broken as hell. Even the joke of the "reboot" DmC. He was strong as hell in DMC3, BUSTED in DMC4, busted in DMC5, and I think he was pretty strong in even Project X Zone/Capcom x Namco. It's not weird at all, he is literally a boss character *you can play* and it fits him to the lore. Dante never lives up to his power because Dante doesn't want to use it, but Vergil does.
The funny thing about Vergil in this game is that he is based on (Arguably) His weakest depiction in the series which is DMC3. Imagine how broken a umvc3 Vergil with a DMC4/5 moveset would be...
You know, the best part about Vergil is that he's debatably WEAKER in boss form than when he's playable. Think about it, he never gets all his tools at once while a boss but when he's playable? All you can eat buffet.

Not really that much Dante and Vergil are based on their DMC3 versions (and DMC4 had already been released for 3 years xD), their weaker versions......and that's not a problem for Vergil No matter what game it's in, no matter what version they're basing the character on, if it's included in a special version, it's got to be the most fucking broken thing ever.
It's been ten years and I'm still salty that Ultimate nerfed Felicia, She-Hulk and several other mid tier at best characters, yet gave Magneto the ability to control the position of his opponent without even touching them. We had to take away Phoenix Wright's godlike assist, but everything about Vergil? Ah yeah, that's all good, keep that in there. It honestly felt like there were multiple balance teams working in different prefectures with no means of communication outside of dixie cups with string.
And this is the exact reason why I didn't give a f*** about this game. If this game was treated like Street Fighter 4 in terms of balance this would be an amazing game. But when one player can't even play you can't even call this game competitive they just play it cuz there's money involved

I forget which year it was but I think it was the year where Filipino champ won. They had an interview with all the top players and most of them basically said "the game is stupid broken to the point where it's unfair but there's prizes and money involved so we're going to be here and play the game"

two of my favorite Vergil facts are actually minor things hes “missing” 1) helm breaker is actually a mid, despite being The Most Overhead 2) Vergil is one of very Very few characters without a TAC infinite, which does severely weaken his abilities as a second character compared to other versatile mids that have one (doom, morrigan, and magneto are the first to come to mind) That being said you can still just slap Vergil on any team you wish at any slot you wish and do perfectly fine EDIT: forgot the word infinite lol

Vergil has 2 safe supers in case you made a mistake and need to safely DHC into. That gives him a lot of usefulness in the 2nd slot because some characters lack that. Edit: Forgot to mention that he can give the 1st character a touch of death even if they have low damage by DHCing into sword loops and killing.
I miss old soul calibur when it had good singleplayer content cutscenes sc v and vi have dumb pictures, more characters and they had faith in the series they didn’t have faith in 6 it sold well still tekken gets to keep all cutscenes get a shitty story and endings in arcade lol it’s way harder than soul calibur idk why they put more into that than soul calibur they advertise it way more to. soul calibur 2,3,4 were awesome then it got lazy and barely gets advertised as much as other games even the customization was better in 4 u can’t even see stuff without selecting it now how stupid is that ? lack of content and dlc characters is what ruined 6 for me it was good but couldn’t keep me around hopefully 7 is good as it will probably be one of the final installments sadly

I love how ridiculous he is, but I also don't like how he's *basically* the unholy love child of Meta Knight and Captain Commando. He's insane both on the field *and* as an assist, and frankly, it makes it annoying to fight him because he's *EVERYWHERE*. I get that him being such a strong anchor for your team makes sense for Vergil, like, as a character, but I'd rather not treat my point and middle characters like punching bags to see what my opponent can deal with before the optimal play is just "lol, shred them with Vergil." I *like* goofier teams. I wanna play my team of Phoenix Wright, Deadpool and Dante (not necessarily in that order), but the meta says that I should replace Deadpool with Vergil and then I just feel bad for using an OP character. (At least if I'm playing against actual humans. I have no qualms with using Vergil against the AI.)
@@DeisFortuna Totally understand and can relate. This game has been played for a long ass time. Some teams aren't meta so dont expect meta results. Play the game you want to play. For your team you could replace Phoenix Wright (i know...) with Frank West. Deadpool and Dante both have multihit assists and 50 hit bang bang bang. Figure out how to get frank in there and squeeze a snapshot. Congrats you now have high level Frank that hits like a train. Bottom line: have fun!

This is an amazing love letter to UMVC3 and I am glad the algorithm brought me here. Amazing transitions and easy to follow even for new people. I didn't even know Vergil's sword can negate projectiles! So busted lol. He is banned for a reason in Ratio tourneys lol (well among other things).

@SNES Nes that's not just inifinites you're basically saying you don't like fighting games at an evo level lol. Every fighting game has a strict hard line of who you're seeing in tournaments for reasons like this they're just... built and designed better so everyone plays these characters for the same reasons outside of your occasional low tier heroes. Any fighting game you can name off the top of your head has a small percentage of tournament played characters these breakdowns pretty much only even matter for the highly serious and skilled players. None of it is just... that easy to walk over the rest of the cast with but no fighting game is balanced where you won't see a small amount of played characters in the highest level.
@SNES Nes I mean tbh... that's what it is every game at high level is broken to some extent. To newcomers they should watch things like ratio tourneys and mid low tier tourneys. Maximilian said it pretty nice at one point that fighting games are typically the most boring to watch at their highest level, because that's refining the game to your highest chances of winning. And it's not about fun anymore.
Vergil is my fav CAPCOM character, so when they announced he would come to MvC3 I was pretty motivated. I'm no pro and didn't expected he would end up being the best character in the game. Well... I should've expected. It's Vergil after all.

As a Melee player who is getting into the FGC for a few years now and loved the "*smash game* Is Broken" series by Hew, this is a fantastic UMVC3 version! I just started getting into all the old-school marvel games and UMVC3 so this was a fun video to watch! I do wish I had more beginner level players that aren't just going to make me hold back to actually practice the game in a PVP setting.
I'd recommend starting with street fighter. It's a great way to know the fundamentals of a fighting game. There's a good variety of beginner friendly characters and combos are kinda short so there's a bit more room for trial and error. Once you master the fundamentals (spacing, framedata, hit confirm, combos, etc) you'll be able to transfer all that knowledge to almost any fighting game (except SSB melee, that shit is insane)
I wouldn't say the best. Zero for one has more versatility than Vergil and it feels so good having to kill Vergil early on and it feels better if you defeat a vergil trying to do a comeback. But honestly I hate both Zero and Vergil mains, they can make a match too intense yet with the same formulaic moves.
Morrigan and Zero are actually better than Vergil. People just hate Vergil more because you have to build your team around Morrigan or Zero whereas Vergil can go on pretty much any team.
The skill ceiling and creativity of this game was incredible and allowed for ridiculous amounts of swag. The game was also very competitive with a constantly evolving meta where the ultimate theory of the game was always tempered what players could actually pull off and what worked. Off the top of my head, the point characters that won EVO were Wesker, Magneto, Zero, Storm, Haggar, Morrigan, Chun Li! Plus the game is absolutely beautiful with gorgeous animation and the characters are full of personality * sigh *

fun fact: dante jam session is so good that if you have x factor you can get an infinite just by spamming it in the corner. also virgil jumping s also causes and ground bounce which you can combo into upper slash. you can do some crap with that
...You forgot Morrigan's unfly! Frame one active, can be done out of any special move, this allows her to safe cancel any special move, do instant over head, fuzzy wuzzy when combined with her standing jab which hits low, and is the corner stone for spamming soul fist. It lets her cancel out of moves and immediately repeat the same move thus nullifying start up and recovery time of soul fist. For some odd reason the game allows you to have as many soul fist on screen as you can launch! I would also argue magnetic blast is broken as it covers most of the space in front of magneto, its super safe, and recovers way too fast. You can also do it way to close to the ground. Great video though, loved it!!!
The explanation about Vergil alone is enough to warrant his ban in Ratio tournaments, cause even if you give him the maximum allowable points for a 3 team group(which is 8), the Vergil player will just sandbag the two Ratio 1's just to give him all the tools he needs to mount a comeback, and in this game, Vergil comebacks are a dime a dozen. Phoenix Wright comebacks are still legendary. But even with all the BS of this game, I find this game more enjoyable than Marvel 2, simply because despite what the meta implies, all the characters are dangerous in the right hands and with some synergy, any team could be viable. I just wish more of the lower tier characters were definitely given some more love. But overall, a good tribute and rundown to one of the greatest games in the past generation alongside SF4 and KoFXIII.

@Omori pero con drip Yeah but that's literally got nothing to do with it. Actually there's even an interview out there of a Capcom dev talking about a DMC fanboy who overtuned both Dante and Vergil in MvC3. It's absolutely possible to balance them.
Thing is, Dante is pretty strong in UMVC3 but he's not broken.
But in every DMC Vergil's been playable he's been broken as hell. Even the joke of the "reboot" DmC. He was strong as hell in DMC3, BUSTED in DMC4, busted in DMC5, and I think he was pretty strong in even Project X Zone/Capcom x Namco. It's not weird at all, he is literally a boss character *you can play* and it fits him to the lore. Dante never lives up to his power because Dante doesn't want to use it, but Vergil does.

Dante and Vergil are based on their DMC3 versions (and DMC4 had already been released for 3 years xD), their weaker versions......and that's not a problem for Vergil
No matter what game it's in, no matter what version they're basing the character on, if it's included in a special version, it's got to be the most fucking broken thing ever.
It's been ten years and I'm still salty that Ultimate nerfed Felicia, She-Hulk and several other mid tier at best characters, yet gave Magneto the ability to control the position of his opponent without even touching them. We had to take away Phoenix Wright's godlike assist, but everything about Vergil? Ah yeah, that's all good, keep that in there.
It honestly felt like there were multiple balance teams working in different prefectures with no means of communication outside of dixie cups with string.
And this is the exact reason why I didn't give a f*** about this game.
If this game was treated like Street Fighter 4 in terms of balance this would be an amazing game.
But when one player can't even play you can't even call this game competitive they just play it cuz there's money involved

two of my favorite Vergil facts are actually minor things hes “missing”
1) helm breaker is actually a mid, despite being The Most Overhead
2) Vergil is one of very Very few characters without a TAC infinite, which does severely weaken his abilities as a second character compared to other versatile mids that have one (doom, morrigan, and magneto are the first to come to mind)
That being said you can still just slap Vergil on any team you wish at any slot you wish and do perfectly fine

@@y4wnd3r3 it can hurt his spot as being the 2nd character but it doesn’t completely negate his usefulness in the 2nd slot. Vergil has 2 safe supers in case you made a mistake and need to safely DHC into. That gives him a lot of usefulness in the 2nd slot because some characters lack that.
Edit: Forgot to mention that he can give the 1st character a touch of death even if they have low damage by DHCing into sword loops and killing.

I've always said, the best fighting games are ones that are at least a bit broken. It's partly why I love Soul Calibur 3 so much.
I miss old soul calibur when it had good singleplayer content cutscenes sc v and vi have dumb pictures, more characters and they had faith in the series they didn’t have faith in 6 it sold well still tekken gets to keep all cutscenes get a shitty story and endings in arcade lol it’s way harder than soul calibur idk why they put more into that than soul calibur they advertise it way more to. soul calibur 2,3,4 were awesome then it got lazy and barely gets advertised as much as other games even the customization was better in 4 u can’t even see stuff without selecting it now how stupid is that ? lack of content and dlc characters is what ruined 6 for me it was good but couldn’t keep me around hopefully 7 is good as it will probably be one of the final installments sadly

I love how ridiculous he is, but I also don't like how he's *basically* the unholy love child of Meta Knight and Captain Commando.
He's insane both on the field *and* as an assist, and frankly, it makes it annoying to fight him because he's *EVERYWHERE*.
I get that him being such a strong anchor for your team makes sense for Vergil, like, as a character, but I'd rather not treat my point and middle characters like punching bags to see what my opponent can deal with before the optimal play is just "lol, shred them with Vergil."
I *like* goofier teams. I wanna play my team of Phoenix Wright, Deadpool and Dante (not necessarily in that order), but the meta says that I should replace Deadpool with Vergil and then I just feel bad for using an OP character. (At least if I'm playing against actual humans. I have no qualms with using Vergil against the AI.)

For your team you could replace Phoenix Wright (i know...) with Frank West. Deadpool and Dante both have multihit assists and 50 hit bang bang bang. Figure out how to get frank in there and squeeze a snapshot. Congrats you now have high level Frank that hits like a train.

If anyone, I might swap like, Deadpool for She-Hulk, just for the funniness of running two lawyers, but I haven’t figured out which assist to use. (Because I haven’t touched mahvel in months because the netcode is ass and none of my friends play it.)

This is an amazing love letter to UMVC3 and I am glad the algorithm brought me here. Amazing transitions and easy to follow even for new people. I didn't even know Vergil's sword can negate projectiles! So busted lol. He is banned for a reason in Ratio tourneys lol (well among other things).

@SNES Nes that's not just inifinites you're basically saying you don't like fighting games at an evo level lol. Every fighting game has a strict hard line of who you're seeing in tournaments for reasons like this they're just... built and designed better so everyone plays these characters for the same reasons outside of your occasional low tier heroes. Any fighting game you can name off the top of your head has a small percentage of tournament played characters these breakdowns pretty much only even matter for the highly serious and skilled players. None of it is just... that easy to walk over the rest of the cast with but no fighting game is balanced where you won't see a small amount of played characters in the highest level.
@SNES Nes I mean tbh... that's what it is every game at high level is broken to some extent. To newcomers they should watch things like ratio tourneys and mid low tier tourneys. Maximilian said it pretty nice at one point that fighting games are typically the most boring to watch at their highest level, because that's refining the game to your highest chances of winning. And it's not about fun anymore.

As a Melee player who is getting into the FGC for a few years now and loved the "*smash game* Is Broken" series by Hew, this is a fantastic UMVC3 version! I just started getting into all the old-school marvel games and UMVC3 so this was a fun video to watch! I do wish I had more beginner level players that aren't just going to make me hold back to actually practice the game in a PVP setting.
I'd recommend starting with street fighter. It's a great way to know the fundamentals of a fighting game. There's a good variety of beginner friendly characters and combos are kinda short so there's a bit more room for trial and error. Once you master the fundamentals (spacing, framedata, hit confirm, combos, etc) you'll be able to transfer all that knowledge to almost any fighting game (except SSB melee, that shit is insane)

Let's be honest here, Vergil being the best character in the game is fitting given his lore.
I wouldn't say the best. Zero for one has more versatility than Vergil and it feels so good having to kill Vergil early on and it feels better if you defeat a vergil trying to do a comeback. But honestly I hate both Zero and Vergil mains, they can make a match too intense yet with the same formulaic moves.
Shuma-Gorath should be the best if we're talking lore. But I guess he just wasn't motivated enough for this game.
Morrigan and Zero are actually better than Vergil. People just hate Vergil more because you have to build your team around Morrigan or Zero whereas Vergil can go on pretty much any team.
The skill ceiling and creativity of this game was incredible and allowed for ridiculous amounts of swag. The game was also very competitive with a constantly evolving meta where the ultimate theory of the game was always tempered what players could actually pull off and what worked. Off the top of my head, the point characters that won EVO were Wesker, Magneto, Zero, Storm, Haggar, Morrigan, Chun Li! Plus the game is absolutely beautiful with gorgeous animation and the characters are full of personality * sigh *

...You forgot Morrigan's unfly! Frame one active, can be done out of any special move, this allows her to safe cancel any special move, do instant over head, fuzzy wuzzy when combined with her standing jab which hits low, and is the corner stone for spamming soul fist. It lets her cancel out of moves and immediately repeat the same move thus nullifying start up and recovery time of soul fist. For some odd reason the game allows you to have as many soul fist on screen as you can launch! I would also argue magnetic blast is broken as it covers most of the space in front of magneto, its super safe, and recovers way too fast. You can also do it way to close to the ground. Great video though, loved it!!!
The explanation about Vergil alone is enough to warrant his ban in Ratio tournaments, cause even if you give him the maximum allowable points for a 3 team group(which is 8), the Vergil player will just sandbag the two Ratio 1's just to give him all the tools he needs to mount a comeback, and in this game, Vergil comebacks are a dime a dozen. Phoenix Wright comebacks are still legendary.
But even with all the BS of this game, I find this game more enjoyable than Marvel 2, simply because despite what the meta implies, all the characters are dangerous in the right hands and with some synergy, any team could be viable. I just wish more of the lower tier characters were definitely given some more love. But overall, a good tribute and rundown to one of the greatest games in the past generation alongside SF4 and KoFXIII.

I love how Vergil is that one unlockable boss character who doesn't get nerfed once he's playable lol I'll also say Rugal from King of Fighters, Shiva from Streets of Rage, and Minion from Twisted Metal.
