I like how controllers for Melee have become what swords were in medieval warfare: Very expensive pieces of equipment made specifically for one job and one job only that are extremely easy to break or otherwise damage and require regular maintenance.
Swords weren't used in medieval warfare. Swords were self defense weapons carried by the wealthy to defend themselves from muggings. Even landsknechts, famous for their use of zweihanders, carried them rarely and would use poleaxes in any sort of military engagement. Inb4 WHAT ABOUT ZWEIHANDERS USED TO COUNTER PIKES long after medieval period and well into the age of pike and shotte.
I don't think you can stop melee controllers from wearing out, it's too hard on em, what makes it so expensive is that they were never meant to be rebuilt in the first place, you can replace most of the arcade sticks buttons yourself

Even Nintendo's official turbo controller doesn't have frame perfect mashing. There are 3 pulse rates that can be set: 5, 10 and 20 pulses per second. So at most you get 1 input every 3 frames, 1.5x slower than frame perfect.

...Although the buttons do squeak if you press them a certain way
I own the black version of it, and its way different than the white one. You can feel when the shoulder buttons hits, the buttons don't squeak, the d pad actually works nicely, there's no bump on the front the plastic doesnt feel that cheep just glossy but the back is textured and matte, But there is a problem with that the z button is definitely not great and the switch should have been placed higher up.

Very informative! Always fascinating to see the usage rate of an older console and its accompanying acccessory hardware.
It's crazy that the 2018 version of the ruleset is still the most current one. The permitted controller section really needs to be revised. By default it doesn't allow boxed style controllers, and technically a lot of controller mods can be deemed illegal, giving TO's a lot of room for own interpretation.
Seems pretty clear that technically a snapback capacitor should be illegal, as it's a hardware mod. Springs? Plugs? Tactile Z? That custom Gloomwave DX motherboard would also be a pretty big violation.
Snapback would be illegal if they didn't have a monetary interest in making sure it wasn't.

honestly rewatching this video, it just struck me how kinda similar the controller vs keyboard input deal works in a game like rocket league. while i havent heard of anything related to custom DualShock or DualSense controllers for the game, i can imagine it with certain movement techs, which just like Fox up smash, require the same precision of not hitting the deadzone and totally flailing your car and leaving the net wide open, but in the same way the BOXX helps to mitigate analog failings, keyboard is 100% consistent if you know what youre doing, but starting a game like rocket league from scratch is so debilitating just like i imagine it being in melee. somehow people can get really good at both, which is all the props to them.

Inb4 WHAT ABOUT ZWEIHANDERS USED TO COUNTER PIKES
long after medieval period and well into the age of pike and shotte.
I don't think you can stop melee controllers from wearing out, it's too hard on em, what makes it so expensive is that they were never meant to be rebuilt in the first place, you can replace most of the arcade sticks buttons yourself
