As a hip hop head I saw these guys live in between pharcyde and cypress hill at San Jose state in 1996. They tore it down. Great show , been a fan ever since.
I saw them 2004 I was 16 still one of the greatest shows in my memory and I've seen them many times since. Nothing beats that 2004 Philly show where the roots opened for them.
I'm 45 and 311 were the original hometown heroes from the Midwest. They did move to LA to make it big (and it worked out) but they have so many references to the roots of the Midwest that they are champions. Love 311. This is great!
Omg we’re all grow’d up 😭. Flashback to a little bar in Lincoln, Nebraska when there was just a handful of people. My memories of 311 concerts will forever be in my heart. Yo P-Nut, beat that thang!
Do you remember the name of the bar in Omaha they were always playing at back in the 90s? It was either Omaha or Council Bluffs, but I was always wasted. I don't remember the name
That's because most of the "current" bands don't have any kind of soul. They're all about technique. Crazy how your gen is responding to the late 99s/early 00's music. I thought for sure we've seen the last of nu and ska,etc in like 2005. Cheers.
I'm 66. Fan since the blue album around '93. Introduced them to my daughter when she was about 7. We've seen them twice together and she's been to a couple more of their shows with friends. She's 35 now and still digs 311.
In late 2009 our first son was born and as my wife lay asleep in the hospital bed after ten hours of labor, they wheeled our new son in and he began to cry. As a new father not knowing what to do, I used my iPhone to play 311 Amber very softly in his crib as I struggled to change his diaper. I am 100% certain that moment set the tone for his life. He's chill, impossibly cool, creative, easy going, and everything you'd expect a kid to be who's first song ever was Amber. Fun update: When he was maybe 8 or 9, we were riding in the car and this song came on. He instantly connected with it and said "Dad, I really like this song" as if he'd heard it before. Thank you 311, it's a part of his DNA~
2009 my first son was born as well…here in present day it’s 3 boys and 1 girl…and I have full custody…and I still listen to 311 since the 90’s…luckily my daughter can groove to their songs.
I love this. My youngest was born in 2018 and the son in the or as I had my c section was hey there Delilah. His first time watching/listening to a song was the strokes you only live once the day we brought him home from the hospital. Little dude is so into music, been singing along since before he could speak. Named after Layne Staley so it’s very fitting.
They're in a bit of a comeback after almost folding the band through covid and they're releasing a new album this year. They just had back to abck nights in Vegas and have been touring and seem to have found a new gear. Love that NPR let them release the episode on 3/11 day.

I appreciate that they didn't drown the mix in FX like normal. Definitely adds to the intimate vibe to be able to hear the vocals. They can both still sing great.
I was there for it starting around 97, and I'm here for it now in 2024. 311 was the background music to my closest group of friends and its forever woven into my best memories. Looking and sounding good, boys!
Pretty much all my friends on my XC team either listened to 311 or discovered them because of the guys that listened to them. Lots of my memories of those days have a 311 soundtrack as well!
I got into this band in the past 2 years…I just love how uplifting and positive a lot of their music is. I saw them at Red rocks and they’re great performers, and also talented musicians.
Frick. I needed this. Thank you NPR. thank you 311. Got me through my best times, and gets me through my worst. My favorite upload ever without a doubt. Ending with down... Perfect.
The thing that I love about this band is how they all actually seem like a group of dudes who have accepted their age and allowed themselves to mature. Nick Hexum, for example, loves to post about all the time he spends with his daughters. It's made me come back to them after so many years.
Back when bands had to work a bit harder and tour relentlessly and people were still buying music CD's. God, I miss those days and wish MP3's and Napster were never invented 🤣
The last period of time where bands that made their name outside of the industry's control got a shot. There's a reason why mainstream music got absolutely terrible afterward
Every dude here is pure love. I saw these dudes shred themselves perfectly so many times. Just rad musicians and committed to the grove/harmony. Beasts.

My parents never paid for any concerts I attended. I worked after school starting in 9th grade, I paid for all my wants, wishes, college & all concerts.
This is great!!
Priceless😂
@@gracebgraygood for you😒
easily top 5 tiny desks of all time. nothing but BANGERS.
This and Freddie Gibbs easily get in the top 5
Seriously so clean 👌
Facts !
What a trip! 311 sounds amazing and they still got it. I'm grateful everyday for being a 90's teen because we had a wealth of awesome music.
It was a better, more free and fun time all around too.
Let me remind you all that these guys are this tight WITHOUT in-ear monitors.
No metronome and just come in perfectly on the one.
Amazing
WITH OVER 2,000 SHOWS AND MEANING WHAT THEY CREATE ITS NOW JUST SECOND NATURE TO GEAR UP AND BECOME ONE. THESE GUYS PUT IN THE TIME AND WORK TO GET HERE. WHATS AMAZING IS YOU NOTICING THAT. IM SURE THAT IS THE CREDIT THEY REALLY CHASE NOWADAYS.
whats wrong with in ears? they're just so you can hear yourself and other istruments. It's not like they're playing at this volume in stadiums. they need proper monitors in bigger rooms.
This is not that impressive lol
Reading comprehension helps here. No one said anything against the use. I said it’s awesome that they are this tight without the use of them.
@@mattsavagedjI’ve played all of these songs in cover bands with and without in ears and as long as the drummer is competent they are not hard. Especially if they have played these songs thousands of times lol.
I’m 36 and I’ve been in a 311 kick for the last two weeks showing my daughter this beautiful music and now I run into this…. The universe is an awesome thing. ❤❤❤❤❤❤❤
When I was around your age, I introduced my daughter to 311. she's 35 now and a big fan. Last night, for her birthday, I took her to their concert.
@@murrayirvin3177 oh man this is awesome love to here this. Man god bless you and your daughter brotha 🙌 ❤️
@@murrayirvin3177 my daughter is 10 btw and growing fast words of advice?
their self-titled album was one of the first CDs I ever purchased. happy 311 day!
Mine was on a Cassette Tape back when I was in High-School.
Yup! Had mine in 1998!
One of my first as well. What great times!
I got it in high school as a gift and it changed my life
Same, maybe my 3rd or 4th cd back in 96 and in 6th grade. I’m 40 now woah 😂
So glad that NPR celebrates 03/11 day.
"Nothing good comes easily/sometimes you've got to fight" still hits hard.
I was just thinking about those lyrics
Amber is sooo lovely. Right in our teenage feels
Ikr, it's not like those simple facts weren't expressed about at least a 100 million times before these morons included them in their song lyrics.
Awesome performance, fantastic sound engineering - Thank you NPR!
As I've gotten older I've developed more and more respect for 311. Their dedication to each other and their music... simply fantastic.
Literally just said this to my youngest kid... who rolled their eyes.
... and they have a decent catalogue to explore. Not all great, but they do have a sound and a great positive vibe. Fun live as well. I would diss them back in the 90's but gave them a 2nd chance. Glad I did as they still rock it.
Same with a lot of artists from that time. As I get older I have more respect for Blind Melon.
311 werent my fav band growing up but I always respected the musicianship. Especially Chad, Tim and p-nut. Criminally underrated rhythm section.
big same homie
As a hip hop head I saw these guys live in between pharcyde and cypress hill at San Jose state in 1996. They tore it down. Great show , been a fan ever since.
Saw them in 1996 (I was 12 or 13) at the local Hartford CT radio rock fest that summer and they were amazing!
I saw them 2004 I was 16 still one of the greatest shows in my memory and I've seen them many times since. Nothing beats that 2004 Philly show where the roots opened for them.
Saw em in Houston 95 with pharcyde and outcast! That's my I Used to Be Cool story.
Was there too! 😊
heck yeah that was my first ever concert!!!
I'm 45 and 311 were the original hometown heroes from the Midwest. They did move to LA to make it big (and it worked out) but they have so many references to the roots of the Midwest that they are champions. Love 311. This is great!
311...your music got me through some of my toughest times in life! 53 years is knocking on my door and I am blessed! Keep on keeping on! ❤
Love to hear it ! 311 rules
Omg we’re all grow’d up 😭. Flashback to a little bar in Lincoln, Nebraska when there was just a handful of people. My memories of 311 concerts will forever be in my heart. Yo P-Nut, beat that thang!
Can tell u are an awesome person
Do you remember the name of the bar in Omaha they were always playing at back in the 90s? It was either Omaha or Council Bluffs, but I was always wasted. I don't remember the name
311 was the sound of the 90's for me. So many great songs.
❤this took me back to my childhood. The 90s we're a great time to be alive
fellas....high school in the 90's is over!
☝🏻This! The 90’s were the best time to be alive! 😎
I’m 18 years old, I’ve seen 311 3 times and every time has been more worth it than any current bands. They always bring the energy
Every Time ❤
That's because most of the "current" bands don't have any kind of soul. They're all about technique. Crazy how your gen is responding to the late 99s/early 00's music. I thought for sure we've seen the last of nu and ska,etc in like 2005. Cheers.
You have the best taste in music
I'm 66. Fan since the blue album around '93. Introduced them to my daughter when she was about 7. We've seen them twice together and she's been to a couple more of their shows with friends. She's 35 now and still digs 311.
Takes me back...Pop open that CD from the case, opening the walkman, starting the lawn mower, let it ride.
That's awesome, man.
I don't appreciate you cutting onions in here without a warning 🥹❤️
Helps to have such a chill dad too!
I like that song that goes "Shama nama nama nama down down"
I get that reference
That's my favorite AxCx song
Aahh I see what you did there 😏😏😏😏
“Shemma Nemma damma damma Dow Dow “… it hits deep ! …… but seriously I love 311 😂
Nobody cares
finally!! no ear monitor on live session. I f---in' love this!! they can feel the vibe
This wins the Internet today. Thanks NPR
They still got it 30 years later. Surprised to see them on Tiny Desk Concert though.
Hells yeah
They're in a bit of a comeback after almost folding the band through covid and they're releasing a new album this year. They just had back to abck nights in Vegas and have been touring and seem to have found a new gear. Love that NPR let them release the episode on 3/11 day.
@@timothyrixnerwhat are you talking about, they havent slowed down at all. Casual…
Well today is 3/11

Chad Sexton, one of the most underrated drummers of our time. You are the man.
I'm better than that guy, so maybe im underrated
i agree, one of the greatest drummers OAT in my book
@@Bevtoneheh, could've fooled me.. Don't recall ever seeing your band playing a Tiny Desk concert. 😜
And on a kit that is a fraction of the size of his normal one!
@@Crackerman311 😅 haha, I figured as much, but I had to rub it in.. 😜
Hard to hate on Chad.. he's always solid and always serves the song - two important qualities, especially as a drummer! 🤘
Garsh!!!!! Love me some 311 vibes!!!!!❤
Omg.. the don’t trip hat for Mac.. my heart melted for the subtle nod to him. Thank you! ❤😢
First comment about this is way too far. Awesome tribute, RIP Mac
Where?!?! Love some mac❤
Same hat is on the shelf behind them
Also the bass player is wearing a don’t trip hat. Came here for the Mac comment
Just noticed that too!! Makes me love 311 even more than I do!! P-Nut showing respect to Mac from his iconic tiny desk performance!
311 is absolutely one of my all time favorite bands, not enough people appreciate how great they are. I love this.
"... 311. The Beatles of rap rock."
- John Oliver
This was awesome. I hope they have at least one more album in them. The world can never have too much 311. Kickin' the funk that smells of skunk since '88.
I like 311 but they’re not the beatles of rap rock and late night hosts today tend to be the last people you should look to for musical advice

They killed it on “All Mixed Up” 🔥
So glad they did
They killed at ALL. But I love that song too.
Voices are INTACT! 🤩🥳 thank you for this tiny desk 🥳🤩
I appreciate that they didn't drown the mix in FX like normal. Definitely adds to the intimate vibe to be able to hear the vocals. They can both still sing great.
Tiny Desk audio techs are the best. Never is anything drowned in FX.
That’s inaccurate.
@@junkandcrapamenJosh Rogosin is the star behind it all. He’s not behind this Tiny and I hate to say it but it kind of shows
I suppose if you’re nuts and have no taste, you’d say this didn’t sound great…
Those vocal harmonies 🥵
They've still got it. I love seeing artists love what they do decades later.
P-nut! One of my childhood bass hero’s. Now at 43 I rock out with my kids.

They are absolutely nailing all of these songs especially the samples and scratching…….still great after all these years!!!!!
I’m seriously so happy hearing this performance.
I honestly have never really been into 311 before this video, but I am albums deep now. so thank you!

These guys are incredible!! 🔥
I was there for it starting around 97, and I'm here for it now in 2024. 311 was the background music to my closest group of friends and its forever woven into my best memories. Looking and sounding good, boys!
Pretty sure we were all there for it. lol Kids today have no idea who they are.
Perfect.
I was listening to Amber yesterday and wondering if 311 were still going then this appeared on my TH-cam feed! Absolutely still got it x
Thirty years worth of memories packed in a 16-minute concert. Truly amazing 😎.
I took my daughter to a 311 concert some years back. She was like 14 or 15. She had never seen her dad jam out so hard, 😂. Love these guys!
Every 311 performance feels like a time machine to great vibes 🎶 Their Tiny Desk Concert? Pure nostalgia! 🤘
Pre social media...pre TH-cam...pure nostalgia

Timeless band, takes me back to my youthful care free days! Where my 80’s peeps at?!
We are here baby
Tim is always so happy. I've seen 311 I think like 14 times and I'm looking forward to their next unity tour this summer.
Can't believe they've been around for 311 years.... here's to 311 more! 🍻👽🤙
Lol Underrated comment
I was stoked when Abraham Lincoln became their new lead singer in 1861
Love these guys! Such great positive energy!
These guys are great after all these years. Never seen a bad show.
Thank you for the music we so love.
The thing that I love about this band is how they all actually seem like a group of dudes who have accepted their age and allowed themselves to mature. Nick Hexum, for example, loves to post about all the time he spends with his daughters. It's made me come back to them after so many years.
I never left. This is my soulmate band.
This band inspired me to take up the bass guitar almost 25? years ago.
Still playing guitar regularly. Thanks, guys
I was listening to 311 when I was 15 (I'm 42 now), and through the years, they still sound exactly like their album, great video....
My boys, one of the bands that marked my adolescence, 311 is like wine. Love you guys and I hope to see you soon.
They're awesome
Crushed it! Super awesome 😎
I love all the positivity in these comments. Rare these days, and it's feeding my 90s-loving heart!❤
I feel like TH-cam started putting the negative ones at the bottom a few years ago, lol
Right? I’m so used to some intruder bringing divisive politics into everything, it’s nice to see all positivity.
Looking back, the number of great bands from the early 90's is bonkers.
🤌🏻 beautiful nice work guys thanks for doing it
Every dude here is pure love. I saw these dudes shred themselves perfectly so many times. Just rad musicians and committed to the grove/harmony. Beasts.
