Tim Mahoney is the reason I've been playing guitar since 1996, I was a member of their fan club, they were my first concert, they personally sent me 2 tickets to their show in Philadelphia, October of 1999 during the "soundsystem" tour.

Back in like 1998 in college me and a couple of friends that were big fans had the bright idea one night to try to get Nick on the phone. We searched for anyone with the last name of Hexum in Omaha and only came up with one result and called. Nick was not there (unsurprisingly) but we talked with his mom for a couple of minutes and she was super nice, way nicer than anyone getting randomly called should be. I finally got to meet the whole band many years later when I was working for a radio station. I mentioned the story to Nick and he said that he remembered his mom telling him about the call. Nick and all of the rest of the guys were some of the most down to earth, chill people I've met in the business.

I heard “Do You Right” on a sampler that my babysitter gave me because she worked at a record shop. At the same time, I was really getting into playing drums. I listened to the album nonstop just religiously, and Chad’s drumming absolutely hypnotized me. I really credit my determination to becoming a skilled drummer to him. The production on that album is just so unbelievably fucking great, the sound of his kit just melted my young little mind haha. Those god damn good times, I’d do anything to get the 90s back!

They stopped mid song at a Van's warped tour once in the mid 2000s because the singer noticed a really big guy picking on a smaller helpless looking dude! The singer said "if you guys running security dont take care of that fuc$#!@ guy right now, then I'm coming off this stage to kick that guys ass myself"!!! Security instantly came at that guy from every direction and the entire crowd went crazy cheering and applauding as they dragged him away! Then they started the song over again. It was epic! In 1995, my parents took all my cds away. I was 14. They found profanity in lyrics. The deal was they would replace 1 cd a week. 311 blue album was my first "replacement" cd. Im 41 now. Theyve been my favorite band ever since

They took away the CDs because of profanity and the first replacement they gave you was 311's blue album? Did they not actually listen to it first? Or even read the track list? It feels like the song "Guns Are For Pussies" would have been a red flag for them.

Excellent content! Not easy staying around for 30+ years with original lineup (I believe the 4th longest-lasting band to do so, only behind U2, Radiohead, and De La Soul before Trugoy's passing). Aside from several bumps along the road, the boys are now stronger than ever. The new album Full Bloom will be a total banger!

So much so that when I was 5 years old my nickname was SA. They were my first concert when I was 8 and it’s an experience I’ll always remember. A few years ago my dad got Nick Hexum to wish me a happy 26th birthday through Cameo. His message was very wholesome and he even sang my favorite song which is Come Original. The Blue album had come out was taking the alternative radio Waves by storm. But that wasn't the album that got me into them. I thought they were alright. "Down" was an okay song I thought. So my friend handed me a tape one day and said "I know you're not really into this band. But go home and put this tape on." So I did. It was 311 's first album "Music". I was literally blown away. I'd never heard anybody sound like that in my entire life. That album and Grassroots are still two of my favorite albums of all time. Both those albums are nearly perfect straight through just incredible musicianship. I learned how to play drums to those albums. They hold a special place in my heart.

311 is a timeless treasure of talent and head-bobbin' grooves, since "All Mixed Up" came out for me in highschool. Their drummer, Chad Sexton, was and still is my ultimate influence on playing the drums. Even after I graduated with a BA in percussion performance in 2005, to this day, at age 45 and not playing in any bands, they are still my #1 band to listen and play along with. Sadly, even though i'll never come to the level of Sexton, I still remember, fondly, of how awestruck I was with his grooves in the band, as a collective.

311 is a very unique band with almost a distinct style all their own. A lot of people say they're alternative rock, but with as much jazz, soft rock, reggae, funk, and rock influences as they have, they really fit the bill for what I would dub as "Hybird-Fusion Rock". Every song they've done has almost a little bit of influence from something, taken, meshed together with something else here and there, and then molded into their own twist on things.
