Back in like 1998 in college me and a couple of friends that were big fans had the bright idea one night to try to get Nick on the phone. We searched for anyone with the last name of Hexum in Omaha and only came up with one result and called. Nick was not there (unsurprisingly) but we talked with his mom for a couple of minutes and she was super nice, way nicer than anyone getting randomly called should be. I finally got to meet the whole band many years later when I was working for a radio station. I mentioned the story to Nick and he said that he remembered his mom telling him about the call. Nick and all of the rest of the guys were some of the most down to earth, chill people I've met in the business.

It's been more than just music for all of these years. There have been a lot of time periods in my life where I really connected with different music at different times but 311 has been one of the few constants throughout the years. 311 found me with their blue album at 16ish. Fan ever since. 💯 their music was always fun and never negative. That wasn't missed by people. I love now so many years later just putting their music on shuffle and just enjoying.

311 changed the music landscape in 95 and helped open the door for bands like No Doubt and Incubus.
Also led for good or bad to the late 90s ska revival.
    Looking forward to part 2!

311 is a timeless treasure of talent and head-bobbin' grooves, since "All Mixed Up" came out for me in highschool. Their drummer, Chad Sexton, was and still is my ultimate influence on playing the drums. Even after I graduated with a BA in percussion performance in 2005, to this day, at age 45 and not playing in any bands, they are still my #1 band to listen and play along with. Sadly, even though i'll never come to the level of Sexton, I still remember, fondly, of how awestruck I was with his grooves in the band, as a collective.

Love 311... One of my favorite bands ever. My introduction to them was the Blue album, when it first came out back in the day, but Transistor really made me a hardcore fan.. That album is a masterpiece! I don't think they've ever put out a bad album, until recently, with Voyager.. It's the first album of theirs that I never really cared for.

In 7th grade art class, back in the 90s, we had to do a project where we made really big folders to put our paintings and drawings inside of. We had to make a stencil and use it in the design on the folder itself. I was a huge fan and used 311. This girl in my class told the teacher that it meant KKK. They wouldn't let me do my project so I noticed she was doing Master P and I went to the principal and teacher and told them that she was wrong about mine but that Master P talked about dealing drugs and murder. I didn't actually care that she was doing it nor did I dislike Master P but I had to retaliate because she was so wrong. They ended up not letting either of us do our projects the way we wanted so my rebellious ass opted out . I'm still a big fan and just saw them in concert last month. Their music has helped me get through so much and formed my identity as a young, confused male growing up in the 90s. I'm still confused but I credit 311 for inspiring me to stay positive and keep going.

I had a friend back in the mid & late 90’s that was obsessed with this band, and I was really into them initially - but he almost exclusively played their only 2 available albums for a couple years.. Kinda put me off of them, but went back after R&RTS covered the story about an altercation they had with Scott Stapp (I think?) and I really enjoy listening to them again!

Been listening since '96. Since then, I've become enthralled with various genres at one point or another: gritty 90s rap, jam bands, metal, then death metal. Now, I truly do listen to almost any genre, and through it all I've listened to everything these guys have put out, and I've seen them live at least 25 times. I'll be taking my grown children for their first show this Fall. There is nothing like 311, and nothing like a 311 show. F the BS it's time to throw down!

Yeah dude I'm a fan of theirs but that's not true. When I saw them in early 2010s in multiple arenas the entire middle section of the amphitheaters plural theatresssss would be empty. Theve bounced back and forth between opener and headliner in recent years, they canceled some overseas shows this year and have never been beyond an amphitheater size band and I've never had a problem getting a ticket to any of the many shows I've attended of theirs going back to 96 I've never been told they were sold out so this is not exactly true

    &
    Kottonmouth Kings.

The Blue album had come out was taking the alternative radio Waves by storm. But that wasn't the album that got me into them. I thought they were alright. "Down" was an okay song I thought. So my friend handed me a tape one day and said "I know you're not really into this band. But go home and put this tape on." So I did. It was 311 's first album "Music". I was literally blown away. I'd never heard anybody sound like that in my entire life. That album and Grassroots are still two of my favorite albums of all time. Both those albums are nearly perfect straight through just incredible musicianship. I learned how to play drums to those albums. They hold a special place in my heart.
I've seen 311 probably 13-44 times over the years. I've met them. They are some of the nicest coolest most down-to-earth guys you'll l ever meet in your life. I was wearing a Phish shirt and Tim Mahoney commented on it and told me how much he loved them and I thought that that was like the coolest thing ever as an 18 year old 😂😂
