  • I have been using my Nikon Z50 for travel photography for several years now. In this video I explain why I still believe the Z50, in combination with Snapbridge is still a great combination for 2024.

My lightweight kit is a Z50 with 12-28 along with a 24-200. Hits all the needs in a small LW kit.

I love the Z50. I wish I never sold it knowing it was going to take this long to get a Z50ii. However 21MP in my opinion is a sweet spot for APS-C. I would rather have the larger pixel size than 24 or more but smaller pixels.

I’m trying to decide between this and om-5…I like Nikon image quality more but lens affordability selection is holding me back.

Good review, tried to love this camera for street but the AF for is poor.

Huh? My experience was quite the opposite. I have taken some street shots, panning shots of cars, dog photos all with the kit lens and they are quite sharp.
The AF works great, in the dog photos there are a lot of stuff in the foreground and it was a bit dark too.

I am not quite sure I understand your comment on moving the Nikon focus point. The focus point can easily be moved around the screen while using the viewfinder by depressing the multi-control dial prior to activating focus. The camera will focus on the selected point. Works in P, S, A or M modes. Not in auto.

Good video, thanks. I'm looking at this or the Z30 for travel, the latter, even though no EVF, because I have the impression it is significantly smaller - due to lack of EVF hump - and jacket pocketable with the 16-50. Any views on that? I watched your gx80 video too and I have a GX7, but I'm looking for apsc quality and preferably Nikon colours. Thanks

I had to make the same decision and went with the Z50. I live in Southern Arizona (think intense sunshine.) The screen is fine for indoor photography but gets washed out in the bright sun. The EVF makes all the difference, at least for me.

Great video! Im currently looking at purchasing a new apsc camera and I'm trying to decide between the Nikon z50 ans Sony A6700. I love Nikon colors (owned a D5600) but I really like the autofocus and ibis of the Sony. Between both, which do you prefer for purely photography? Thank you!

I've had my z50 for about 3 months now and absolutely love it.

I'm in a similar position. In a previous video AVP raved about the A6700 and on paper it's the superior camera, so I'm especially interested why for him, the Z50 is the preferred travel camera?
