  • Yes! It's a brutally amazing camera. It's the mirrorless camera I would recommend to any Nikon photographer that's thinking about going mirrorless without breaking the bank. Especially if you already have a nice collection of Nikon lenses.
If you have a Nikon Z50, comment and let me know what kind of photography or videos you're doing with it.

I bought this camera a couple of years ago and now use it more than my D750. (I'm doing more video than stills lately). I still think it's a great camera, although I agree the battery life is limited, particularly when you use it with video. One frustration with mine is the indicator for the battery life, which is not linear in nature. It shows full charge and then 3/4 charge for quite awhile. Then it shows red, which is an indication the battery is almost spent. If you're shooting video, be advised each battery lasts about 75 - 90 minutes.

Thanks for another nice review. I have a Z50. I like the size it's easy to tuck in the jacket while out walking. I used it with the Z50x250 native kit lens. It makes a small easy to carry package.
A couple things I don't like about it...
The mode dial turns too easy. I would prefer a locking button for it. I've had times where it switches from A to S just taking it out from under my jacket.
It is very slow to wake up. It sleeps easily but wake up is slow. I'm constantly turning it off and on to avoid it.
I mostly use it for stills and battery life has been okay. Kastar batteries work well and are cheap. They recharge in camera with USB also.
I like the number of focus points. The camera gives me nice sharp photos.
Personally I like the D500 with the full frame AF-P 70X 300 lens. It gives quick quiet focus and is relatively inexpensive. I believe the Z50x250 lens is a pulse motor lens also.
Thanks again for the nice reviews.

Purchased my Z50 in 2020 and it still performs! With my FTZ adapter I can mount my existing F-Mount DX glass, and even though I have to manually adjust them the Z50 helps you get your AF Nikkor lenses into sharp focus. It's not leaving my bag for quite some time.

Yeah lack of IBIS is fine for photos. However it's very handy for video. Especially considering so many apsc competitors have it. Especially walking stabilization, the electronic vr is for standing still gets rid of handshake.
If you do have a z50 or zfc though, I recommend using a wide angle, the camera shake is barely noticable and honestly makes the shot look natural with the slight shake. I use the tokina 11-16 with the ftz when shooting video and it's great.

  • @taylorlimbeck6854
    @taylorlimbeck6854 ปีที่แล้ว +9

I chose the Z fc. Not because of the cosmetics of it, but because of the USB-C port and flippy screen. If they launch a z50 II with IBIS, a flippy screen and USB C support, I will be all over it. Just exchanged an FTZ adapter and Tamron 18-270 for the 50-250 Z dx lens at National Camera this week. Auto focus rips compared to the older lenses.

If I had a choice, I would get the Z30 just because of the articulating screen. Both the Z30 and Z50 have the same image sensor, so I wouldn't be too worried. As for the viewfinder, it definitely comes in handy during SUPER bright days.

Thanks for your review! I’m curious about the bottom-flip screen. How does it look in playback? Like…if you’re looking at yourself in the screen while recording, are your eyes in a natural position when viewing the playback? As opposed to looking at an LCD off the side or on the top of the camera? I’ve never experienced a bottom LCD.

Depends what kind of photography you're doing. If you're doing nature photography, and you're showcasing your images on social media, it'd be hard to tell what camera you used.
In terms of overall image quality, there are a few factors that roll in to getting better image quality, but the Z50 would be an improvement. BUT, a good lens goes a long ways. If you feel like the D5000 is limiting your photography skills, the Z50 is an excellent upgrade.

Most z lenses don’t have IBIS, they are for FF cameras that have IBIS in the bodies. Mounting them on the z50 which doesn’t have IBIS will leave you with none at all. How important that is to you is what matters.

No issues at all. If anything, if price is a factor, that's one problem. Hopefully Nikon just releases more Nikon Z DX lenses.

This is stupid. Why would something be good on Dec 31, and mysteriously on Jan 1 is not good.

I have a couple Pentax from the 60's that I love. Not sure the Nikon line of plastic will be loved like this sixty years from now. I think the Pentax and Nikon of that age will still be remembered.
