I had to buy one of these as I am a bit clumsy with laptops pretty impressive machine but can get hot due to it's unusual cooling system the touch pipe is located underneath the keyboard explains the keyboard which I actually kind of like but yeah getting a different mouse as pad is a bit strange sometimes but I am very impressed with the machine
Did you got the WWAN card working on Windows 10? For me it doesn't work. Drivers are installed but I don't see a cellular option on network settings. When i install Windows 7 and install the drivers i have no issues. Although is very slow on download speed (max 10mbps).

Agreed. A trackpoint would be a far more useable pointing device. Also had Linux running on it for a while. Only thing I couldn't get working was the touchscreen. Works fine on the mk1 in Linux though.
Unfortunately my Mk5 does not have a GPS module installed. the Mk1 CF-19 I have has one, but it was not very good the couple times I tried using it. I cannot speak for the newer modules though.
As KiloByte said, the older models probably not so good but I have a MK7 with GPS and paired with Windows 10 Maps it works beautifully. You have to install a driver called GPSDirect to allow the module to “talk” to Windows 10 Map but after that...perfect! I love these machines BTW!
Those two black plastic grips on the sides are for your cell antenna that has to be so many inches from your hands. Check on the back to see if you have an IMEI and MEID numbers. If so you can have it connected to your cell provider.

@@robertbauer6723 I don't know about the distance thingy, but being that it is used by fire departments and emergency agencies maybe the power output of the antenna is more powerful than a consumer one? I had to hunt around a bit for that video because I forgot where I originally read about it. It's always nice to find someone interested in the same stuff, isn't it :)
It depends. This model is absolutely rugged. The keyboard is small however. You will find yourself mistyping a lot until you get used to it. That said, it is nice and compact, but also a little thick and heavy. Newer models (I have a Mk6 and Mk7) have i5 processors. Throw in an SSD and they are snappy, capable machines. They will run linux (I use Mint) but my experience w/Mint is that support for audio and display brightness did not work out of the box. It appears that this can be fixed but I haven't tried. With Win10, almost everything works out of the box. The only thing that doesn't are the little buttons on the front - display brightness does work, but the others don't.
There is a setting in the BIOS for high temperature climates. You may want to enable that if it is to be used in those conditions, but these are designed for use in desert climates, so they should handle it without issue.

I got one for free since 2021, it was an office asset write off, but the intel dynamic power performance management is preventing it to install windows 10. After a year using it with windows 7, I search in forums the intel dppm should be deleted first before installing windowa 10 from inside of windows 7 (not usb boot), and then using driver intel dynamic platform and thermal framework version 8.0.10003.14 A00 20 September 2014 from Dell. Now it is more usable as a spare machine.

The hard drive caddy and battery cost way more than the laptop itself on eBay!

I use a mouse whenever possible. Use in the car 90% of the time.

Yes. They take a standard SATA 2.5 in drive, so most standard sized SSDs will work.
