    Another use for serial would be radio programming like the Motorola XTS3000 that needs a serial port.

    Brilliant review. You covered everything I wanted to know and more. May I ask what laptop has the best keyboard, in your opinion?

    Is there any way for a person to rollback the Hours operated counted? I purchased one of these with only 50 hours on and I was wondering if that was a legitimate number.

    they did make 64 bit core duos, my crappy Dell D520 has one, but the chipset can only take3.25 GB RAM. I like the tough book since it’s fanless while the D520 only uses the fan when I use the FN+shift 15324 override. The Dells back then needed windows to run the fan. they fixed this later on for the E series and mini’s where the BIOS runs them. you only need the ovveride for linux.

    Hi, when you installed Ubuntu MATE on your toughbook, did the sound work ok?
    Can't get the sound to work here and have tried a few different things.
    Would be cool if anyone knows how to get to the bottom of this issue. Cheers!

      If sound is not muted, and You cant hear it (except rear socket) . You need to install Windows (or use live cd) then install "hotkey" - then press function key and mute button. It will show hotkey icon and unmute built in speaker. That setting is saved inside bios. Reboot, remove windows forever, and sound will work perfect on linux. I had same issue and that's way i solved it. I know it's old comment but it's important to know.

    Nice, i got one of these laptops, same model as yours, the MK1, i got windows 10 running on mine, it is a little laggy but surprisingly it plays youtube fine...
    Though i have been thinking of putting Linux on it, get it a little more speedy, i only use it for irc and programming radios
    So.. did you ever get a new keyboard for yours? i got the standard keyboard on mine.

    How’s the trackpad? I bought online and the trackpad was not working properly. I had to press super hard to move the mouse. The seller said that’s how all toughbook cf19 was built. I didn’t believe him and returned it. Is the track pad supposed to work like any other laptop, only a light touch required to move the mouse?

      Unlike most laptops, Toughbooks use a resistive trackpad that can be used with gloves on. These trackpads require pressure to operate and are quite unpleasant to use. This is how all fully rugged models of Toughbook are. You shouldn’t have to push extremely hard on the trackpad to get it to work, but it will require more pressure than a normal one.

    The hard drive caddy cost more than the laptop used!

    • @RobertDeloyd
      @RobertDeloyd 4 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      LOL!!!! I just bought CF19 for $45 and the caddy was $35! Had to laugh when I read your comment. Mine has an IMEI and MEID numbers for cell which I hope to get working. There's a crack on the lid which I'll bend back into place and use some hot glue on the insides. I got lucky when I charged the completely dead battery it held a charge for several hours when I ran Puppy Linux on it. Now I wait for the caddy and an SDD 128 to load an OS on it. :)

      I have a CF-19 H model, mk2 with ssd and 8Gig memory. It runs W10 just fine. It's nice for programming Motorola radios, Victron gear etc. I think the memory should be 8G to win10 run smoothly. This model does not have the wings beside the display.
