The main way to tell an F350 2wd from an F250 2wd is the spare tire location. F250 had a 133" wheelbase with the spare under the bed and the F350 had a 140" wheelbase with the spare in the passenger bedside.
Gotta love how you guys out west have that dry climate rust free and rare birds still setting in yards , most of FL you'll never see either or any of that. I could watch hrs of junk yard trolling, ESP out west. 🤘
In high school my friends & I spent many hours a week in our local & neighboring towns junkyards ! It was great we had maybe 10 junkyards within a 30 mile radius 😆 If we knew back then what we know now we would've taken every 60's- 70's muscle car molding, trim pieces and emblems $$$$$ Back then those places were still loaded with Camaro's SS & Z28'S ,Chevelle SS,GTO'S,you name it....talk about junk yard gold 😉 Part of the junkyard experience is knowing what you are looking at.... and you guys have that covered in spades ! Great video... thank you for the trip back in time.... even though the cars and trucks may have changed the experience of the hunt is still there ! Good luck and have some fun.... my junkyard hunting brothers ✌😎
I've been at the boneyard 6 days this past month, to do 3 things: Get another carrier and pinion setup, get another block, and another rotating assembly for my '92 Ranger. The carrier and pinion is to put 3.55 rear gears back into a Ford 8.8. The block is a 2.3l Lima 4-cylinder that I'm in the process of building, as I'm putting a rotating assembly from a '98-'01 2.5l into the '94 block. Once that is successful, then I'm going to be changing the MAF sensor to be bigger (read more air flow), and both the fuel injectors and fuel pressure regulator, to go from the stock 40 psi, to the '98-'01 60 psi. With these changes, I'm estimating a power increase from the stock 100 horses to 150 horses. It may not seem like much, but my little Serenity (that be her name) needs all the help she can get. After that, then I'm moving on to deal with a metric butt-ton of body rust -- which will probably mean looking for a better cab and box. After that, looking to paint the truck a dark Navy Blue on the bottom, a red stripe on the body line, and either a Gun-Metal Gray, or a Dark Silver on the top of the body. Glad to see I'm not the only one who's been out in the yard this year, lol.
Don’t know why but I grin every time I see a chrome bumper with the tell tale upward bend from a chain hook end where some one tried to pull with the bumper and not the frame.
, classic pull out mistake seems like everyone learns that one the hard way had a ishkabob for about a week finally pulled up to a cedar and pushed it back a h the good old days
I was just there last week and today, saw that engine and wondered why it was there. There is another at the east lot too! Laughed about that weird van too!
The more videos the better , so yeah, get on it lol. Just bought a 73 F-350 Service truck I'm picking up tomorrow... truck has been in garage since the 80's and is near perfect... super stoked about bringing her home.
guys I walk through junkyards and lots of time, something a shame to be crushed is there, there is a guy up around alberta, who saves 40s, 50s, 60s cars from the crusher, he bought 3 kaisers and a frazier, so to have parts, at metal costs, he finished the frazier's interior got all mechanicals fixed and road recertified, he has saved many unknown classics from the crusher and got some of them running after arrival, others sit and wait, and my fave is the 59 biscayne he got as daily driver round the yard, the man is renaissance in body, engine, electrical, Coldwarmotors
Wow, the original Ecology in Chula Vista. The first time I went to that yard was in 1981. Me and my friends have scored a lot of rare parts from that yard but left SD years ago. The hill looks the same but the cars are a lot different! I scored two hood scoops from a 70 340 dart my first trip there. One guy scored a 69 428 CJ for 150 bucks there. Thanks for the memory flashback!
More exciting than a Aussie Junkyard, ours are full of Jap/Euro/Korean cars, dead GMH Commodores with blown V6s and Ford Falcons with the Barra in-line 6 with the body that has falling apart around it. We did get the Ford Explorer in the 90s, I actually used the 3.73 diff from one in a 1967 Mustang (1000s of used 65 to 70 mustangs have been imported here in the last 30 years)
Great find on the Ford. Can't believe it had a good grille & tailgate. Those were hard to find in the mid '80s. The 400 can easily be turned into a torque monster.
I'm glad I found craig909 he just makes my day cause of me and him liking the same things and makes the best reasonable vlogs Edit: thanks for the love bro😁
I dont know if this helps but I have a junk yard kit that goes with me every time I go. A set of screw drivers and a mix of vise grips from big ones all the way down to the needle nose. I can get just about any part I need with just a few tools. If I am going foe bigger parts I have a nice socket set that will also go with me. Awesome video
My dad had a 1977 Fleetwood. That car was the best car for comfort made in the '70's. That car would do a burnout for as long as you wanted. I think it had a 400 or 454. Who cares what was in it, it was a runner!
Ranger Bill you sure it wasn’t the 572 GM A good friend of mine had a 72 2 door was the bomb I used to drive us all around on the weekend because my buddy had a little trouble navigating under the influence . Those were the days !!!
@@davidblack5053 you aren't shitting. All the times my auto pilot went out was pretty brutal. Trying to steer with no power steering belt was insane. I would run Camaro's, Mustang, Roadrunner's. I wouldn't win every time, but over the whole weekend, I always came out ahead. Aahhhh the good old days!! I'm really don't remember what size it was. I can tell you the was no room left under thr hood.
I saw the blinker housing and lens for that grill in the bed. Never leave a great part...might be useful. All the small detail pieces that you left behind that would be a treasure for the person looking for them.
Heads up to all my Ford boys. Early to mid 90s Cougars/Thunderbirds, and V6 Sn95 Mustangs have a 3g alternator that bolts right in place of an earlier, 60s 1g Ford alternator. Internally regulated, like 160A vs 40A, perfect easy upgrade. Edit: specifically 1994-1997 Cougar/Thunderbirds, and 1994-2000 V6 Mustangs.
It wouldn't split your block unless you put it up over 600hp without adding any of the braces they make for a 302. If you ran it turboed at 450 you'd be fine.. but at that point, why not just run a big block or a Cleveland? (or that 351/400M you found.. same thing) You know, the oddest part about everyone saying that that happens is that there's not one video or article about it anywhere showing that it actually happens.
Great VID!! Used to love going too the junk yard.. The ones around here won't let you go in... Sucks... I mean God forbid you see how it comes off or goes together with the other parts around it
Quarantine cruise YES!!!!!! JYD's (junk yard digs) YES!!!!!! I was surprised that you didn't take the bumper when you grabbed the grill, and was REALLY surprised you didn't grab that Garrett turbski. I hope you can get back there to grab it before someone else does.
I actually found a grille shell for my 1976 F-150 Supercab in a junkyard in Wisconsin. It is in incredible condition. I couldn't believe it was still on the truck. Paid $25.00 for it!
3 years ago I found a Ford Econoline van 90s era and it had a built 347 stroker with Edelbrock Holly MSD distributor it had Phoenix PD impound sticker on the windshield not a bad price of 350 bucks
There use to be a whole bunch of F100 trucks at Pick and Pull here in Central California. When steel was really high they were chopping them up and sending it overseas.
That's a cool day out! you cant do that in the UK anymore which is no fun we still got breakers but you tell em what ya need and they remove it for ya no more foraging around which was the fun probably health and safety

You can check Ford boards and find lists of diff ratio codes. It's on the bottom of the door sticker I think Explorer/Ranger 90s are D4 for 3.73 and D5 for 4.10(letter plus number means Trac Loc diff). Sorry, you won't find any 3.08s in Ranger/Explorers. Probably Mustand or Crown Vic to get those gears. Some stripper Ranger or Explorer1s have 3.55 ratio(46 code, no Trac Loc)
Finding used parts here in England is a nightmare because the greedy governments have closed 99% of the scrapyards down (the one I used that was frequented by my family for over 40 years has been closed) over the years so seeing the yards you have across the pond is paradise
Sold my 64 galaxie xl500 fast back a few years ago. Wish I had never sold it. I miss that car got a ton of money for it but not worth it on how I have felt since. Mines was maroon with black interior all original al I pulled it out of a buddy's garage with under 90k miles. Wish I could post pictures of it for you to check out. It even had the hard to find tissue dispenser lol.
You didn't seem impressed by the Ford Courier, I had a new 77 model, burnt valves 5 times during 12,00 mile warranty. when it went out of warrant I changed out the intake and exhaust because Ford adapted the Mazda carbs and tiny exhaust to the 2.3. After that I put over 200,00 miles on it. After that I adapted a 71 351 cleveland into it with a 4-sp. looked stock but was one hell of a sleeper

Had a 1965 Studebaker with a 225 slant six in high school.
Good parts truck. But 2 things. 1: no such thing a s a 400m. It's a 400. The little brother to it was the 351m. 2: it's a heavy 250 probably camper special. The f350 with a pickup bed only came in 2 versions. A 2wd 140" wheelbase and a 4x4 79. Ps the bumper on it was a 78/9. 77 back was more rounded.
I definitely enjoyed ur video. Hav u ck'd these out th-cam.com/video/CZfgYhrPX7g/w-d-xo.html Sallys speed shop. These guys Came HERE to Colorado TOOK cpl old AMC cars from junkyard- drov em home ! & also Uncle Tony's garage. Live strwam 2nite.
I have a gem i found in a junkyard..... a keith black big block..... sits in a engine stand as I build it properly... also.... not an aluminum block, the old cast iron

That first van is caused by crack/meth
The main way to tell an F350 2wd from an F250 2wd is the spare tire location. F250 had a 133" wheelbase with the spare under the bed and the F350 had a 140" wheelbase with the spare in the passenger bedside.
Craig the stock ratio for 87 to 93 5.0 mustangs w/ 5 spd was 3.08.. Should be alot of drag racers w those old take outs on the shelf.

I'm getting a 1967 F100 next weekend. 390 longbed 4 speed...
Nice. I have a 66 f100. Got the 390 rebuilt already and now working on the suspension. Best of luck

Love the way that Pick sounds! I don't know much about cars but I love your videos.

sad thing with junkyards you cant save them all even if you wanted to
Must be blind as hell !!!! Ford truck's in every junkyard I've been in. Must be a yuppie !!!
Depends on where you live, where I am in central Texas you can find 1000 of these trucks in peoples fields and backyards but not a one in the yards
When i lived in clovis, nm a local junk yard had dozens of ford trucks, complete, grills, etc. Prob still do.
Hell yeah man your videos keep me sane during this quarantine
dont be afraid or shamed for going outside for fresh air or a hike. Stay sane brother 👌👍

That's a 78 bumper on that black f350
If only I could find a parts truck for my 73 like this one need a passenger fender and grille and cab corners. With some interior parts.
If you're looking for a short ratio rear differential pull one from a crown vic
Those are too wide.
400s are good motors. Slap on an eddy 4bbl intake and carb, headers, and a straight up timing set up and you’re already good to go.
Green Studebaker at 12:20 had a bran new 5 speed sbf bellhousing and some other sbf parts we snagged the hubcaps grill and emblems.
78-79 run the squared off bumper 77 down have the rounded edge
Dope Sick Dopeity Rims, I caught that Zip Ties And Bias Plies Refrence
Your truck sounds so good dude, its perfect!
That's a cool day out! you cant do that in the UK anymore which is no fun
we still got breakers but you tell em what ya need and they remove it for ya no more foraging around which was the fun

junkyards opened here In MI about 2 wks ago. Glad you found a grille.
That dash surround with the radio delete I need for my 1977 F150.
Awesome Build Dusty!
Interested to see how straight the grill comes out. Have a couple with little dents but I don't do body work so haven't touched them.

Do you know what is special about FORDs 400 ?
First it is a punched out 351 block
Second they all used CLEVELAND heads.

Theres nothing special about a 400m. Gas gobbling, gutless slugs. But they were tough.
