You fulfilled so many OG FF7 player's hopes and dreams. So many people in the 90s and early 2000s came to the internet hoping to find a way to bring her back
Among many things, 1 thing in particular that I appreciate is how you explain the nuances of how to do these glitches. The details of how to make it work from what I assume is much experimentation.
I’ve only ever played the game with a ps1, it’s the first game my mom bought me while others had ps2. I’ll never forget the story and I’ll never speed through it, aeris was the only missing piece to my wholeness of this adventure. My mom died young, so reviving aeris feels like reviving my mom. I’m going to get a pc and finally do what the makers should have made the ultimate quest on ps1. Bring back to life the one you love the most. Grinding for Ap or EXP was easy, I loved it. Knowing that the story would finally be over was the hard part. I’m 37 and would be greatful if anyone could tell me what all I need to do this. Much love to all the poor kids that got to experience one of the greatest adventures of all time.
Ok, it works on the original pc version and the steam one. Prerequisites: a save after Aeris death, without recruiting Yuffie a save outside Shinra Hq before breaking in a save in Shinra Hq right after Cloud sees Jenovah, before watching Hojo going upstairs a save after beating Rufus in Shinra Hq, before motorball
Hey Death, great video! I think I found a simpler way to do that. Here are the different steps: * Play normally without recruiting Yuffie until just before the fight with Jenova∙LIFE. Save your game: that's save A. * Defeat Jenova∙LIFE. GameMoment is equal to 677. You can do the Fort Condor battle. * Sail the Tiny Bronco to a beach near Midgar and save close to the Tiny Bronco: that's save B. * Sail the Tiny Bronco to a beach near Junon. * Save with a dead party of Cloud, Barret, and Tifa near Junon: that's save C. * Start a new game or load a save in the first reactor and die there while the timer is on, on the screen with the save point. * Load save C, and die to the fight with two Nerosuferoth and one Formula. You can try this as many times as needed until you get that specific battle. * Load save B and start a fight on the world map. This will teleport you to the first reactor. Save the game there: that's save D. * Quit and restart the game, and load save D. * In the debug room, go to location #8 (north), talk to the Shinra employee on the bottom left, and click on 67(B1) without holding 🔲 * Kill H0512. Aerith is now available in the PHS! GameMoment is now 284. We need to get it back to 677. * Go down to 66F, and take the elevator. From there, play the game like normally until you exit Midgar. * Once you exit Midgar, sail Tiny Bronco to Rocket Town and save at Yuffie's forest. That's save E. * Load save A, and die to Jenova∙LIFE. * Load save E, and defeat Yuffie. You will be teleported to Jenova∙LIFE. This will set GameMoment back to 677. * Defeat Jenova∙LIFE, and resume playing normally, with Aerith now available in the PHS!
That's some S-Tier detective work right there. The presence of Aerith in the party causing her to appear in some cutscenes and cause others to crash is a well-documented bug. People hacked her back into the game ages ago, and I suppose bugging her back in wouldn't change anything. Also back on the PS1, you could apparently swap disks mid cutscene and continue the game using the wrong disc, causing causing incorrect cut scenes to play out.
True. In a book that you have to buy separately for 70 dollars it explains that there's a parallel universe where stamp is actually an ether chocobo, in that universe you can catch one and win the t rank chocobo race, unlocking the power of the ether portal, which takes you back in time to stop kefka, who is actually wakka, but wielding the power of the ultima sombrero, an accessory that you can use to unlock the backstory of the guy in the pipe in midgar by aeristhshsths' house. You see, the mistranslated dialog of "this guy are sick" is actually an ancient summon spell that calls up a quadriceratops tank, who holds the key to the pentagonal materia, created by the materia sage, a mysterious character with ultimate power who doesn't matter and won't come up again. But watch out! while all this is happening, the knights of the round are having their backstories, but they all have separate books i can't afford yet, they'll probably be dlc chapters or something but one of them probably involves yuffie geting the masamune which, when combined with 1/1 solidier you get from collecting all the 1/35 soldiers, destroys the catastrophe bridge, which is really crucial to whatever sephiroth is doing these days, which no one's really sure about because sephiroth can't afford the errata book that tells what his plan is but you can't make fun of him for that because it's not fair.
I remember a friend of mine telling me about this bug at least a decade ago. He was also telling me how it sucked that she would be pretty much gimped for end-game since there wasn't any further upgrades to her weapon, making her kindof useless. He also noted that her lack of presense in any further cuts-cenes and lack of any voice lines basicly made her feel like a ghost just haunting the party. (edit) Alright, watched the video a bit more and I guess it wasn't 10 years ago, because he described that Yuffie method you talked about 8 years ago. He also said he found this on You-Tube. I guess it was through your video. Talk about a small world! XD
Yeah, the old method of keeping Aerith had some drawbacks, such as skipping out on items and quests, and not being able to PHS her in and out of your party. This method is the first time that we are able to keep her with absolutely no drawbacks - no items missed, no quests skipped over, and we can PHS her in and out at will
Imagine a mod of this game that has points where proceeding requires Yuffie warping to acquire things that you shouldn't be able to have at that moment, but that also takes something from you (either random or scripted for certain points in the game) each time you warp, and that keeps track of the warps you have done and makes Yuffie stronger each time by increasing stats or adding to her moveset to make each warp harder. Off course, after you beat Sephiroth, Yuffie steals all your stuff and disables Yuffie warping, and then retreats to Wutai where--after you grind for what items, equipment, and materia you can--you have to fight a no-turning-back gauntlet in the Pagoda of all the Yuffies you killed in the process of warping throughout the game, with YUFFIE-Synthesis, Bizarro-Yuffie, and Safer-Yuffie being the final bosses.
It's absurd that the game can hold itself together through all these manipulations. It's absurd that the manipulations can lead to desired outcomes instead of collapsing into, I dunno, some Missingno stuff everywhere. It's even more absurd that people have managed to find all the specific steps needed to make these things happen. Incredible stuff!
Very nice find. Glad you spent some talking about the history and people involved in finding this, the stories behind glitches and finds like these are really cool to hear about.

Welcome to Rebirth's story. They introduced multiverse in order to bring those realities Aerith and Zach back to life in one of them. The entire notion that Sephiroth is attempting to merge realities will cause a shakeup where some are left in the story being told. That's why we saw a reality where Aerith still lives after The Forgotten Capital and why Zach is so happy at the end of Rebirth and able to talk to Cloud and interact with him for a short time. Watch
On the ps1 version if you disc swap disk 1 with 2 it'll play the disk 2 cutscenes. Aerith dying is replaced with the midgar cannon blasting crater. Really ramps up her death to another lever
Mind officially blown. Edit after watching: I'm just speechless. Human determination and creativity is boundless, discovering something of this magnitude after 27 goddamn years, just wow.
this is like using the gamegenie to get past the easy mode ending in streets of rage 3 (by skipping to the level after) to see lots of additional story elements and choices we weren't meant to see there's some dialog you're gonna get from back when they had planned to bring her back if you never caught it, they've admitted she was supposed to come back, but one of the dev's mother died, and made him rethink the finality of death

Wow.... almost 30 years after the original release of this game and we FINALLY have a reliable way of bringing her back WITHOUT debugging or using a cheat engine or a gameshark. This is incredible and impressive. Great work bro! 👍 👍 👍 👍 👍
Insane I have followed your content since very early on with your FFVII guides, and you *still* have fresh things to share because of the brokenness of this game and the devotion of the fans for it Love to see it
Cloud right-direction shimming over to the party just outside Midgar was funny. Thank you for breaking this process down, I think it's too tricky for me but it's neat Aerith can return to the party after the player has seen her death-scene.
Thank you & the community for all your hard work! I bet this will be the start of the Community trying to fine tune this even further. In other words, this probably isn't going to be the "Aerith Perma-Life glitch" Final Form.
The timing of figuring this out right while everybody is still reeling from Rebirth’s ending is completely insane. FFVII is the gift that keeps on giving
As mentioned in the video this ONLY works on PC and Steam, but there is only one problem keeping us from doing this on PS1 and it has to do with how the game wipes global memory. You can learn more about why warps don't work on the PS1 version by watching my Wrong Warp video here: th-cam.com/video/a4Qsdd7a45A/w-d-xo.html
I’m very curious. Besides after the snowboarding minigame, which scenes does her sprite still appear in? Thank you and amazing work from you and the community 👏🏼
It's crazy to me that they coded the cutscene scripts in such a way that an NPC has to actually use key items like keycards in the player's inventory to open and lock doors, instead of just having the game engine do it. Its so charming.
The craziest thing is that there was actually probably (maybe) a valid reason to do it that way. We are spoiled with the tools we have at our disposal today.
Im just guessing here but... the reason is likely because they had already done it for the player (giving or removing access through key items), and this was a way to avoid writing new code. So rather than make an npc inventory for one cutscene, they probably just added Hojo to your party temporarily. 😂 Why update the game engine or write complicated code when you can just use simple tricks or workarounds in the existing engine?
So, Hojo doesn't actually "use" your keycard. Once you cross a certain coordinate on floor 67, a script starts that basically reads: set GameMoment, move Hojo, open door, set party keycard access to 66. The whole point of the game changing your keycard access is to force you to move up the elevator to the next floor rather than going back down and getting lost on what to do next lol.
@andersonmccall895 I think you nailed it. Triggering events based entering, exiting, or while being within certain invisible collision volume(s) is a tried and true game programming practice. They probably did it very differently in the 90s (like you said, passing over certain map coordinates)
Man, how powerful of a story moment this was for a generation that all these years later dedicated folks have figured out do this. Kind of beautiful in a weird kind of way.
I'm surprised that people didn't know about the Hojo cutscene, me and my older sis always found that in every playthrough. But that Hojo cutscene never really leads to anything...until now that is. Thanks for giving us how to do it in video form!
It's almost midnight by the time I find this and you're telling me I can't flush the toilet ten thousand times!?!!??!?!! My boss will hate me tomorrow 🫠
I consider it a great sign of maturity that I have finally accepted that her name is Aerith and not Aeris. Ignore the fact that it took over 20 years after the fact to do so.
I feel like this is how time manipulation would work. Guys, just imagine a spec ops squad of angels going on a mission from heaven. They arrive and start talking exactly like these speed runners... "Alright, guys, remember we need to time this just right in order to trigger the correct causal flags, or else we'll get softlocked in a time paradox. Raphael, please avoid the probability cloud on that guard or else we'll trigger a causal cascade. He's going through a ton of moral dilemmas right now due to his divorce, and the cloud is extra wide. Gabriel, is the other squad in position to trigger the Oprah warp? Good. Let's bring this Lazarus guy back from the dead."
TLDR: flushing the toilet in Shinra HQ revives Aerith Lol jk. There were so many funny moments. Leaving Shinra HQ before the Sample:H0512 fight. Cloud climbing through the Sector 5 wall. Sapphire attacking Midgar. Very cool find. Color me impressed!

Wow. After all these years.
You found the holy grail.

This is purely awesome.
You are a legend. Thank you for showing me this. I must try this now.
"The History of FF7 Journalism"
That is the gayest phrase I have ever heard in my life. Its a video game, you dork.
You fulfilled so many OG FF7 player's hopes and dreams. So many people in the 90s and early 2000s came to the internet hoping to find a way to bring her back
I was like 'oh, right sure' and then I saw it was 4-8 and we were about to plunge into the lifestream itself for Aerith
Final Fantasy 14 ahh moment
Same. I read the title and was like pfffft look at this click-ba--
'Sees 4-8'
"The time has come."
Prerequisites:
a save after Aeris death, without recruiting Yuffie
a save outside Shinra Hq before breaking in
a save in Shinra Hq right after Cloud sees Jenovah, before watching Hojo going upstairs
a save after beating Rufus in Shinra Hq, before motorball
Hey Death, great video! I think I found a simpler way to do that. Here are the different steps:
* Play normally without recruiting Yuffie until just before the fight with Jenova∙LIFE.
* In the debug room, go to location #8 (north), talk to the Shinra employee on the bottom left, and click on 67(B1) without holding 🔲
* Kill H0512.
Time to update the "Days Without a Newly Discovered FF7 Glitch or Exploit" chart.
Bought a gameshark back in the day, because her death shocked me that badly
clearly money wasted! this bois showing you "frugal ways to break aeris back into the game"! XD

With a lot of trial and error I was able to use the debug menu to get her back in my party in 1997.
It's kind of amazing that Yuffie is the character that enables all of this since she was the glue that held the party together in Advent Children.
she was? shes in 1 scene... the final battle

When the boundaries of fate are breached, new worlds are born. The Planet encompasses a multitude of worlds, ever unfolding.
hey come on man we're talking about final fantasy 7 around here
@@bingbongwahoo-ov1ip Yes, it's what sephiroth says in rebirth.
@@Omnimon152 neat but we're talking about final fantasy 7 here.
Sephiroth always thought Aerith was the greatest threat to his plans. He didn't expect it would actually be Yuffie.
This method is the first time that we are able to keep her with absolutely no drawbacks - no items missed, no quests skipped over, and we can PHS her in and out at will
Honestly I think she would be broken if you got her last limit break which pretty much makes your party invincible.
What in the Multiverse is that!?
Did you not recall her in action in FF7-AC during bahmut battle?
It's absurd that the game can hold itself together through all these manipulations. It's absurd that the manipulations can lead to desired outcomes instead of collapsing into, I dunno, some Missingno stuff everywhere. It's even more absurd that people have managed to find all the specific steps needed to make these things happen. Incredible stuff!
Very nice find. Glad you spent some talking about the history and people involved in finding this, the stories behind glitches and finds like these are really cool to hear about.
Cloud dragging Aries' corpse along, moving her arms, trying to speak in her voice as he casts cure, and everyone else is uncomfortable af, but doesn't have the heart to say "just let her go, man" to him.
I cannot believe that this game keeps giving out these surprises!
Thank you so much for this!!! Just did this on a new playthrough it worked like a charm(steam). Finally able to mess around with 9 party members and enjoy more strats I couldn't before with the strongest caster/healer/support and best girl!
Imagine square making this canon by making you kill your party on different timelines just to revive aerith
Watch
I'm waiting for Cloud to reverse all the changes he made so he can go to a timeline where Aerith lives and prevent World War 3...oh wait wrong series.
I've seen enough Dr Strange to know this isn't the way.
ooh, like a bad ending?
@@masonasaro2118 Not for Cloud lol
On the ps1 version if you disc swap disk 1 with 2 it'll play the disk 2 cutscenes.
Aerith dying is replaced with the midgar cannon blasting crater.
Really ramps up her death to another lever
Iirc that's because all discs have the game on it, only differences between discs are the cutscenes and music.
Mind officially blown.
Edit after watching: I'm just speechless. Human determination and creativity is boundless, discovering something of this magnitude after 27 goddamn years, just wow.
this is like using the gamegenie to get past the easy mode ending in streets of rage 3 (by skipping to the level after) to see lots of additional story elements and choices we weren't meant to see
there's some dialog you're gonna get from back when they had planned to bring her back
if you never caught it, they've admitted she was supposed to come back, but one of the dev's mother died, and made him rethink the finality of death
all those playground rumors about how to revive aerith 27 years ago and now we finally have an answer... jesus christ what a whirlwind it must be for veteran fans

Cloud right-direction shimming over to the party just outside Midgar was funny.
Thank you for breaking this process down, I think it's too tricky for me but it's neat Aerith can return to the party after the player has seen her death-scene.

Anyone know of this works on the FF7 port for iPhone?
Death, I've waited my whole life for this.
Kinda same
We all have
It's crazy to me that they coded the cutscene scripts in such a way that an NPC has to actually use key items like keycards in the player's inventory to open and lock doors, instead of just having the game engine do it.
Hmmmm
@andersonmccall895 I think you nailed it. Triggering events based entering, exiting, or while being within certain invisible collision volume(s) is a tried and true game programming practice. They probably did it very differently in the 90s (like you said, passing over certain map coordinates)
Man, how powerful of a story moment this was for a generation that all these years later dedicated folks have figured out do this. Kind of beautiful in a weird kind of way.
when you are high and not looking at the screen and hear ahhh omg sapphire weapon is attacking midgair....is genuinely terrifying

I'm surprised that people didn't know about the Hojo cutscene, me and my older sis always found that in every playthrough.
But that Hojo cutscene never really leads to anything...until now that is. Thanks for giving us how to do it in video form!

I consider it a great sign of maturity that I have finally accepted that her name is Aerith and not Aeris.
Ignore the fact that it took over 20 years after the fact to do so.
the case was kinda settled , when it turned out that glitching her into party with skips gives her default name Aerith.
Nothing like seeing a new video about FFVII where the game is broken/destroyed.
This glitch is easier to understand than the ending of FF7 Rebirth.
