Yuffie truly is the Chrono Trigger
Appropriate that a ninja is an assassin of time.
Yuffie: Hehe! Hey, Cloud! Watch what I can do!
*rips the fabric of reality apart*
Lolol this made me laugh hard
Tru
I love that, at this point, Yuffie isn't a party member.
She's a Tardis.
She suuuure is TARDIS 😏😂
I have never been interested in speed running but seeing this has blown my mind. So cool! Yuffie be a magician!
😂😊
She is the guardian of the death gates
She's certainly more useful as a TARDIS than as a party member. TARDISes don't steal your Materia.
Hi, Death! I'm mccalas89. Thanks so much for giving this some exposure. Aeriths for everyone!!
For anyone looking to try this out, death's setup is perfect and you can do this with zero problems. Cheers!
27 years later and this game is still not done…
Just getting started!
I love it😂😂😂
Buggiest game ever made and still on people's short list of greatest games ever made. Makes you realize that devs are just doing it wrong nowadays. Look at skyrim, people dgaf about bugs if your game is amazing.
@@alanlee67 skyrim is such a good example
@@alanlee67 There is a difference between bugs that makes you impossible to complete the game or make your first playthrough a mess and bugs that need specific triggers almost impossible to encounter in a normal playthrough.
"Save me Cloud"
"I'm so sorry Aerith, but I didn't understand the explanation"
LOL
So that kid in the playground in '97 WASN'T lying after all!!!
😂😂😂
I mean he was lying, as in 97 we only had the playstation version and this glitch wont work with it so...
His dad really DID work for Sony.
@@usuariofuturistayou’re over-literal
Just being smarter than all of us together. You got my respects, old chap.
Like 25 years ago I was a dumb kid trying internet rumors on how to revive her and here we are with a real revive glitch. What a time to be alive.
Aerith getting to ride the highwind. Dreams do come true.
I remember my very first playthrough and being so upset that Aerith never got to even fly on the Highwind despite the game booklet having a picture of her on the platform looking at it
:')
@@silentflaw And now we can fix that.
Imagine if she also gets to visit Wutai
Is that what she calls it?
HUGE huge props for showcasing this Death, extremely well put together, and a massive shout out to mccalas89 for finishing a project that I started 7 years ago and gave up on. The fact that stuff like this is still being discovered is mind boggling.
I was like 'oh, right sure' and then I saw it was 4-8 and we were about to plunge into the lifestream itself for Aerith
So my memory card is a multiverse.
Potentially yes
Proof we live in a simulation.
Your memory card is basically the remake.
Yup rebirth wasn't a retcon after all. Just tech limitations of the ps1.
And just like that Remake trilogy and its multiverses make perfect sense. You just needed to kill your party on 3 different timelines and play through some past events multiple times to get Aerith back to life.
Everything is still canon, boys!
Some things:
-Both the leaving Midgar cutscene and the Turks cutscenes are GameMoment-based. They aren't flags.
-During normal gameplay, card clearance gets set to 67 when Hojo unlocks the door. When he locks the door again, it gets set back down to 66. Then, after Sample, when the Turks capture you, they take all your keycards and set card clearance back to 0. By tricking the game into making Hojo lock the door again, it pushes it back up to 66, allowing us to freely roam through Shinra HQ again (up to floor 66).
-For anyone trying this at home, when re-leaving Midgar at 26:36 (and 38:26), I'm like 90% sure you can't put Cid in your party, or it'll softlock.
-There's an NPC who gives you keycard 68 if Hojo locks the door on you, so you can probably avoid the softlock mentioned at 35:21 by just talking to that NPC.
-36:44 Based
-Technically GameMoment isn't fixed until you get all the way through Whirlwind Maze (everything between end of disc 1 and there is just flags), but who's keeping track. :P
All in all, very cool discovery!
It just so happens that once you start that Elena scene you are forced into going all the way to whirlwind maze so funnily enough it works out either way lol.
@@4-8Productions well now I wanna see what shenanigans happen if you trick the game further by planting a gold chocobo on the snowboard path and leaving the area. Like maybe have Cloud during huge materia or something.
I tried to find someone cooler than petfriendamy and failed.
Hi Amy!! I'm mccalas89 aka stinkyBen from the speedrunning discord. Thanks for some of the clarifications.
As far as the guy on floor 68 goes, you're correct that he can fix the soft lock. But if you already got 68 from him on the first playthrough, he won't appear (talking to him sets a flag that the game checks to see whether or not too place his field model). So I just noted not to trigger the scene on 67 again just in case.
Also, your videos about warping were huge in helping me figure things out, so I wouldn't have found this without you. Thanks!!
@@andersonmccall895 Good point, yeah you'd have to have not talked to him previously. And I'm glad I could help!
FF7 in 2030 "Guys..we've gotten Zach and Sephiroth into the party, can control both and found dialog hinting they were originally controllable"
FFVII in 2069: “Guys! We managed to make all party members playable at the same time, plus you can play as enemies, bosses, and NPCs! We also discovered you can modify the story, so you don’t have to watch Aerith die!”
thought you gonna say they were Gay ☠
FFVII IN 2100: Guys... We found a fully playable FVIl-2 game within the original FFVII PC version, no hacks. Sephiroth has twins with his mom.
@@poppukonfilm FFVII IN 2200: "Guys, we now live in FF7 via a combination of glitches and holes in reality".
Y'all are joking, but it wouldn't surprise me if there is a bug in the game's code that lets you program and execute arbitrary code to make the game do whatever you want.
I fkn love this game so much.
Remember the PlayStation Magazine many years ago? That came with the demo discs for PlayStation? There was a section in there where fans would mail tips and tricks but they would also mail silly rumours and fake information and that's when the whole "reviving Aerith" rumour became famous....and now it became true 27 years later.
Add this myth to the 27 club because it's dead
Except you can't do it on the psx version.
I like this format where you just play through the entirety of the glitch and fast-forward through the grindy parts, stopping when needed - good stuff
all those playground rumors about how to revive aerith 27 years ago and now we finally have an answer... jesus christ what a whirlwind it must be for veteran fans
Yeah man. Been here since the beginning. This is crazy.
Yup
You have someone who used a code and the only thing that was resurrected were those rumors.
This is a dream come true.
I still remember buying the PC version back in June 1998
No fucking way. This is the holy grail meme glitch. I remember being a kid and this was the rumored, fabled thing you could do. You mean it's real? Watching now.........
Impressive there are people devoted to bending this game's jank code more and more every year. I love it. Well done and thank you for the vid
did you know you can actually get mew as well? Not the truck, there's another glitch that's actually real and works.
only real on ports which is not that great tbh
@@bingbongwahoo-ov1ipThere's at least two.
@@bingbongwahoo-ov1ip what?
It's crazy to me that they coded the cutscene scripts in such a way that an NPC has to actually use key items like keycards in the player's inventory to open and lock doors, instead of just having the game engine do it. Its so charming.
The craziest thing is that there was actually probably (maybe) a valid reason to do it that way. We are spoiled with the tools we have at our disposal today.
Im just guessing here but... the reason is likely because they had already done it for the player (giving or removing access through key items), and this was a way to avoid writing new code. So rather than make an npc inventory for one cutscene, they probably just added Hojo to your party temporarily. 😂 Why update the game engine or write complicated code when you can just use simple tricks or workarounds in the existing engine?
So, Hojo doesn't actually "use" your keycard. Once you cross a certain coordinate on floor 67, a script starts that basically reads: set GameMoment, move Hojo, open door, set party keycard access to 66.
The whole point of the game changing your keycard access is to force you to move up the elevator to the next floor rather than going back down and getting lost on what to do next lol.
Hmmmm
Time to update the "Days Without a Newly Discovered FF7 Glitch or Exploit" chart.
When the boundaries of fate are breached, new worlds are born. The Planet encompasses a multitude of worlds, ever unfolding.
hey come on man we're talking about final fantasy 7 around here
@@bingbongwahoo-ov1ip Yes, it's what sephiroth says in rebirth.
@@Omnimon152 neat but we're talking about final fantasy 7 here.
Sephiroth always thought Aerith was the greatest threat to his plans. He didn't expect it would actually be Yuffie.
True. In a book that you have to buy separately for 70 dollars it explains that there's a parallel universe where stamp is actually an ether chocobo, in that universe you can catch one and win the t rank chocobo race, unlocking the power of the ether portal, which takes you back in time to stop kefka, who is actually wakka, but wielding the power of the ultima sombrero, an accessory that you can use to unlock the backstory of the guy in the pipe in midgar by aeristhshsths' house. You see, the mistranslated dialog of "this guy are sick" is actually an ancient summon spell that calls up a quadriceratops tank, who holds the key to the pentagonal materia, created by the materia sage, a mysterious character with ultimate power who doesn't matter and won't come up again. But watch out! while all this is happening, the knights of the round are having their backstories, but they all have separate books i can't afford yet, they'll probably be dlc chapters or something but one of them probably involves yuffie geting the masamune which, when combined with 1/1 solidier you get from collecting all the 1/35 soldiers, destroys the catastrophe bridge, which is really crucial to whatever sephiroth is doing these days, which no one's really sure about because sephiroth can't afford the errata book that tells what his plan is but you can't make fun of him for that because it's not fair.
Ok, it works on the original pc version and the steam one.
Prerequisites:
a save after Aeris death, without recruiting Yuffie
a save outside Shinra Hq before breaking in
a save in Shinra Hq right after Cloud sees Jenovah, before watching Hojo going upstairs
a save after beating Rufus in Shinra Hq, before motorball
Among many things, 1 thing in particular that I appreciate is how you explain the nuances of how to do these glitches. The details of how to make it work from what I assume is much experimentation.
Man... just the idea of this hits hard. Losing Aeris was legit my first true experience of loss of someone you're attached to. I played FF7 when I was about 8 or 9. I dreamed for years of bringing her back to life.
Now in 2024 I have recently lost my younger brother who ended his life. And my subconscious is still engaging in the same pleading with fate that I engaged in with regard to Aeris.
Obviously, I can't glitch my brother back to life. But this revelation has kind of healed at least my first 'heartbreaking loss'...and all I can say is that I'm really happy your video showed up in my feed.
Thanks for still playing this wonderful game, creating content about it, and thanks to the entire community for bringing this into existence and keeping the game going. I still replay FF7 every few years. Definitely going to do this next time ❤
Imagine square making this canon by making you kill your party on different timelines just to revive aerith
Welcome to Rebirth's story.
They introduced multiverse in order to bring those realities Aerith and Zach back to life in one of them. The entire notion that Sephiroth is attempting to merge realities will cause a shakeup where some are left in the story being told.
That's why we saw a reality where Aerith still lives after The Forgotten Capital and why Zach is so happy at the end of Rebirth and able to talk to Cloud and interact with him for a short time.
Watch
I'm waiting for Cloud to reverse all the changes he made so he can go to a timeline where Aerith lives and prevent World War 3...oh wait wrong series.
I've seen enough Dr Strange to know this isn't the way.
ooh, like a bad ending?
@@masonasaro2118 Not for Cloud lol
I'm surprised that people didn't know about the Hojo cutscene, me and my older sis always found that in every playthrough.
But that Hojo cutscene never really leads to anything...until now that is. Thanks for giving us how to do it in video form!
Best community, best game
FF7 is eternal... My favourite game of all time
Bought a gameshark back in the day, because her death shocked me that badly

This glitch is probably what inspired rebirth.
😂
I cannot believe that this game keeps giving out these surprises!
Very nice find. Glad you spent some talking about the history and people involved in finding this, the stories behind glitches and finds like these are really cool to hear about.
Yuffie the legendary mystical ninja with space-time powers...
You fulfilled so many OG FF7 player's hopes and dreams. So many people in the 90s and early 2000s came to the internet hoping to find a way to bring her back
Quantum physics studies got nothing on this tutorial
It's kind of amazing that Yuffie is the character that enables all of this since she was the glue that held the party together in Advent Children.
On the ps1 version if you disc swap disk 1 with 2 it'll play the disk 2 cutscenes.
Aerith dying is replaced with the midgar cannon blasting crater.
Really ramps up her death to another lever
Bro I can imagine the devs receiving a call in the middle of the night "they found another one"
Praise be to Yevon fam ❤
Imagine a mod of this game that has points where proceeding requires Yuffie warping to acquire things that you shouldn't be able to have at that moment, but that also takes something from you (either random or scripted for certain points in the game) each time you warp, and that keeps track of the warps you have done and makes Yuffie stronger each time by increasing stats or adding to her moveset to make each warp harder.
Off course, after you beat Sephiroth, Yuffie steals all your stuff and disables Yuffie warping, and then retreats to Wutai where--after you grind for what items, equipment, and materia you can--you have to fight a no-turning-back gauntlet in the Pagoda of all the Yuffies you killed in the process of warping throughout the game, with YUFFIE-Synthesis, Bizarro-Yuffie, and Safer-Yuffie being the final bosses.
Death, I've waited my whole life for this.
Kinda same
Casting Revive is quite a hassle
Mind officially blown.
Edit after watching: I'm just speechless. Human determination and creativity is boundless, discovering something of this magnitude after 27 goddamn years, just wow.
when you are high and not looking at the screen and hear ahhh omg sapphire weapon is attacking midgair....is genuinely terrifying
Really answering the question of "What if FFVII but it was Primer."
very kind of your future self to stop by and help us understand things!
Good work, June 2024 and these things are STILL being found. Crazy
Now, in order to get Ramza into your party we're going to be utilizing various Yuffie glitches
It's absurd that the game can hold itself together through all these manipulations. It's absurd that the manipulations can lead to desired outcomes instead of collapsing into, I dunno, some Missingno stuff everywhere. It's even more absurd that people have managed to find all the specific steps needed to make these things happen. Incredible stuff!
Cloud right-direction shimming over to the party just outside Midgar was funny.
Thank you for breaking this process down, I think it's too tricky for me but it's neat Aerith can return to the party after the player has seen her death-scene.
Nojima: WRITE IT DOWN
Yuffie: Wanna see a neat trick? *pulls Aeris out of Barret's ass*
Cloud: HOW?!
Yuffie: *shrug*
Wow. After all these years.
You found the holy grail.
Dude, you will go down in history as the most important person in the history of FF7 journalism.
This is purely awesome.
You are a legend. Thank you for showing me this. I must try this now.
My favorite thing about FF7 is how stable and well programmed it is.
Back when Square actually gave a shit.
It always amazes me that there are people out there with the brainpower to work this stuff out in the first place. 😂
Death truly unites us
Little did I know in June 1998 when I bought the PC version that I would be watching a video 26 years later explaining a crazy ass trick to actually have Aerith alive and kicking after her death...
What a time to be alive. It's finally been done
literally saw the video. made a bowl of stove popcorn and grabbed my fizzy water.
TLDR: flushing the toilet in Shinra HQ revives Aerith
Lol jk. There were so many funny moments. Leaving Shinra HQ before the Sample:H0512 fight. Cloud climbing through the Sector 5 wall. Sapphire attacking Midgar.
Very cool find. Color me impressed!
It's almost midnight by the time I find this and you're telling me I can't flush the toilet ten thousand times!?!!??!?!!
My boss will hate me tomorrow 🫠
My friends' cousins' friends' uncle could do this in 1997 lol
Am curious so I’ll ask…really?
@@StneCldKilla oh yeah man my uncle's boss's brother knew a guy whose plumber did this on fresh new Compaq 486 back in '99

Death brought her back from the Fugue Plane. Thanks Withers!
amazing work bro, this breakdown is incredible!
Props to mccalas89, showing its never too late to start contributing to the community, and making an impact.
Sephiroth: But I stabbed you!
Aerith: Just a flesh wound
This glitch is easier to understand than the ending of FF7 Rebirth.
Nothing like seeing a new video about FFVII where the game is broken/destroyed.
I once got banned from a Final Fantasy forum because one of their rules was "YOU CANNOT REVIVE AERIS FULLSTOP" and I had the audacity to ask how they could be absolutely sure
Lolol, I'm curious to know which forum?
@@dynagamerproductions8249 FFAddicts. Think it was just a temporary ban but still, they didn't take kindly lol
You actually can revive Aerith on the PS1 version using a crazy disc swap glitch with Saga Frontier, I remember reading about it, there is only one post about it on GameFAQs
After 27 years, Aerith is finally alive.
Always was.
@22:25 "Yuffie grind" does not sound appropriate 🤣🤣
😂😂
Cloud dragging Aries' corpse along, moving her arms, trying to speak in her voice as he casts cure, and everyone else is uncomfortable af, but doesn't have the heart to say "just let her go, man" to him.
I lived long enough to see Aerith officially "revived" after all these years.
Breaking the game! Breaking the game!
Priest reference, nice.
Dang man, that's just nuts. Every teenager un the 90s can now breathe a sigh of relief.
You were not kidding when you said setup required lol. This was insane to watch and so cool.
Yeah, I think I'll just use a gameshark lol.
@@Bloodstar6078 That's exactly what I did... in 1997. Still have a working Playstation, Gameshark, AND original FF7 CDs in case. Scratch free! 😅 However, I guess that is considered more of a hack since gameshark is basically editing game code on the fly, whereas this method doesn't require any "external" source.
absolutely insane work
Thank you so much for this!!! Just did this on a new playthrough it worked like a charm(steam). Finally able to mess around with 9 party members and enjoy more strats I couldn't before with the strongest caster/healer/support and best girl!
Incredible work from all who played a part in this. As a kid I always dreamed that something like this would be found, but never in my wildest dreams did I think it would be. This is unreal! 🤯😊
There was a rumor i heard, when i was growing up. Apparently if you beat the game, 100% seven times. It would bring aerith back to life.
Insane I have followed your content since very early on with your FFVII guides, and you *still* have fresh things to share because of the brokenness of this game and the devotion of the fans for it
Love to see it
Thank you so much for these videos. They make my day every time.
This is the greatest victory in recorded history
We did it!
I like how the FF7 speedrun community takes that "I need to figure out why she doesn't love me anymore" energy and focuses it into "how do I break FF7 more?"
amazing. never thought it would be possible. so many years later! great work.
Anybody else double checking that it's not April 1st?
I consider it a great sign of maturity that I have finally accepted that her name is Aerith and not Aeris.
Ignore the fact that it took over 20 years after the fact to do so.
the case was kinda settled , when it turned out that glitching her into party with skips gives her default name Aerith.
The fact that this has become possible suggests we are living in the matrix
We are potentially living in a simulation made by some living beings from space. Planets are made by something, not just natural things. I don't believe in god or anything, but some discoveries proves it scientifically.
Death: "SAY IT!"
Aeris: "I sacrifice!"
The timing of figuring this out right while everybody is still reeling from Rebirth’s ending is completely insane. FFVII is the gift that keeps on giving
yuffie was so powerful that she backported Dirge of Cerberus characters into the main game. reviving Aerith is trivial
Awesome video! I’ve been loving the New Threat series and was really excited to see this pop up after I heard you mention it. Now that we can get Aerith back in the party you should do a video about how to get Cloud back in the party after he dies in the lifestream, I heard there was a new method involving a secret cutscene in Mideel or something like that.
Daaaaamn, this was amazing and a great explanation! FF7 be crazy o.O
So in ff7 remake basically sephiroth is exploiting the yuffie warp glitch to mess with the timeline, just like this.
I didn't expect to see this so early in the morning.
Maximilian Dood, you need to get in here and watch this.
This is not regular FF7, this will blow your mind like Super Mario 64 half A press 😆.
my cousin broke down and cried when aeris died. its a shame hes no longer with us to witness this.. thanks for sharing
If I learned something from this is that Yuffie is a pretty good time machine.
Just started watching, but this means that one kid at school that swore their older brother did something that brought Aerith back to life may have been telling the truth.
