Record keeper is still active in Japanese. If you can handle translating with screenshots or other similar program, you can still play record keeper! I play it still
I am still firm in the belief that Mobius came out too soon. Most people at the time of its release didn't have a good enough phone to run it. But its battle system, story, visual style and cutscenes were all things of quality. In todays climate of things like Genshin Impact being somewhat standard now in mobile, Mobius would have been so much healthier if it had come out around 4 years later. For one, the average person would have been able to play it. Most people I knew downloaded it, saw the opening install patch size, and said no. Those who let the install finish often found it ran terribly on their device.
Never installed it, so I can't tell whether technical limitations were a reason, but I played FFBE and it seemed like the community was interested in that game more. There were also a lot of competitors in the market like COC, FE, probably even hearthstone and the like. So the game did not stand out and the market was quite saturated. Why play Mobius when all the other demand you to play 24/7? I never understood the decision to release two FF games that close to each other. I think the game just got cannibalised by its more succesful brothers.
@Rotschwinge It's possible, but their gameplay styles are inherently different enough to attract different people. One element FFBE definitely had more of that Mobius did not was crossover appeal. Mobius had crossovers, but for the most part you played as characters from Mobius. The gacha was for new moves and jobs to play as rather than new characters. (It had like, 8 crossover characters, but like 80 crossover jobs) Though to the point, almost every smartphone, including trash ones of the time could run FFBE because of its simple engine. Mobius was essentially a ps3 game, and had a steam port of to make it's graphics even higher fidelity. At that time most people's devices weren't up to snuff for running console quality graphics on mobile.
As someone who played 1.0 of FFXIV, I really never understood the hate for it. My PC was decked out for the time though and handled the game very well. Now that I think about it, I stopped playing shortly before ARR. I kinda want to get into it again, no PC now though :/
@@tiamodA lot of the hate I've noticed comes from the fact that it's an online game in the vast majority of Final Fantasy players want to solo. The game forced them to group up and when they relaunched now you can solo the whole game and then just group up for certain bosses. Totally defeats the purpose and why I don't play it anymore.
I want a new game with Duodecim's gameplay and OO's roster (along with updates to include XVI and some more spinoffs like Mystic Quest, Tactics Advance/A2, and Mobius)
@@Chernobog2 Good luck having a fighting game with OO's roster - that thing was huge. I agree that Dissidia could have had a more interesting and diverse roster (FF9 Beatrix's Holy Sword style or Celes Chere's cross-up with ice magic/status effects/runic blade)
@@Chernobog2 I still think that a Dissidia 4 could have a wider variety of character-based mechanics if they expanded the roster as there are a lot of characters with unique skills that would work well in an arena fighter.
@PoIarization101 i really hope they eventually releases those. I dont have the funds to get a ps3 and pay for those three games at current prices even through goodwill lol
Square's biggest lesson that they still haven't learned: STOP MAKING MOBILE GAMES. It's not that mobile games can't be good. They specifically can't make good ones. When they actually manage to make decent to good ones, those are the ones that get scrapped like Mobius or Opera Omnia. Every worst choice that can be made for the mobile sector in Square is implemented.
@Jrdotan Success doesn't always equate to quality and while I made a blanket statement saying that their mobile games tank, there have been good ones. They just tend to flame out quickly.
@@hexginnkgo You are right, however since you said Mobius was good, i can't see how the SaGa one would be bad since it is better than mobius on most things, specially progression-wise and character roaster I think square is just bad at FF mobile games specifically
@@Jrdotan It's not so much about SaGa being better or worse, I was just using Mobius as an example because I knew it was decently popular albeit short-lived. If SaGa is better that's great. SaGa is unfortunately the significantly less popular franchise so Mobius was more likely to get into the phones and collective conscience of Square fans and mobile game players. Which kind of speaks to my other point of just letting the good ones die which is frustrating when that happens. I would be interested to see what the numbers are with SaGa both in terms of total downloads and revenue earned compared to the massive FF mobile catalogue.
@@hexginnkgo Spins back to my first point since the gatcha was actually sucessfull to the point of being the most popular SaGa game by quite a long shot.
First Soldier was *insanely* fun to play when it worked. Customizing your character, helicoptor, jeep/motorcycle, AND guns was really fun. The ranked play was great and the maps were *gigantic*. Diving into abandoned houses and buildings for loot and flying through Midgar on your bike felt amazing even on the phone, and in those quiet moments where you were just hunting down players was so slick. Like, clearly the devs knew what they wanted to implement and there were SO many cool things you could do with character classes and spells, like using a Gravity to slow down your enemy or using Aero to make a wind boost and get up super high for a sniper perch someone hadn't yet thought of. One of the best phone games I've played. Leveling up each class and having them come with different abilities and melee weapons made it like you were inventing your own Apex character. If felt cool as hell, for example, being a Dragoon with the 'High Jump' ability, finding a sniper rifle, then leaping to a high vantage point. And then came the cash shop, which was the most... flabbergasting thing I've ever seen. You had to pull for each piece of armor and they were separated by gender so if you played a M avatar and you really wanted Cloud's outfit, you had better hope you got Clouds Male outfit and not the female one or vice versa. The gatcha was really difficult and it didn't help that the mobile-only game didn't expand it at all. What sucks is the -fashion- in the game, your weapons and armor, were really cool futuristic neo-tokyo like designs, colorful cyberpunk looks, as well as recognizable FF series armor and weapons. I got so fed up with bots and really, REALLY terrible gatcha systems that I quit before EOS. But -seriously- there was a game there. I know they wont, but if Square Enix ported the game to PC / Consoles and touched it up a bit or reflected it with a different IP (for whatever reason), that game would be hot as hell. I think about it all the time and wish there was something else like it, even if it wasn't an FF game. Honestly, with the amount of mobiles that SE closed over the course of a year, IDK what their plans are. Even if a game makes little profit, SE seems to throw out the entire IP and not learn from the bits that didn't work, or even the ones that really did work. It's a shame. First Soldier could have been wild on Steam.
I think the main issue was that it only released on mobile, If they had started with the game as a Pc/Console release first, and then ported to mobile later once it cemented itself as something a little more unique from the other Battle royale games that were already flooding the market.
I know I'm a minority but I actually really liked FFII. I was shocked how dark it was as many characters died. The progression system didn’t come out as well but coming from a lot of OG MMORPGs like Everquest and FFXI, I could really appreciate the attempt for others to utilize and get it right in the future.
i personally think FF2 is over hated. Sure it has its problems and flaws but never forget how old it is and how much unique ideas it brought to the franchise
I think on a historical level it's very appreciable. There is indeed a lot of ambition in the game, and a lot it did for the franchise. But the act of actually playing it? No thanks. I've beaten it twice across very different releases and at this point if I never have to play it again, good.
@@GarlyleWilds yeah i think the game aged poorly but i don’t think for its time it was a bad game. Some games age well and some don’t but that does not mean they were bad games at their peak so to say. Hope it makes sense what i am trying to say lol
Yeah, the problem was that it was a straight arcade port. If they had put more time into the console version they could have included a 1v1 mode and more content.
all they needed to do was make dissidia 012 but for pc console and then add new characters with new game releases and it could have been the next big fighting game
It turned the series into an excellent single-player arena-brawler experience with customisable characters that you *could* play with friends into a half-arsed fighter that was intended to be played online but had a half-hearted attempt at a 1-player mode. You know, like every other fighting game on the market....
That and the lazy story really made me not go through with this game. Consider the improvements from Dissidia to Duodecim and you know what I mean. The evolution just isn’t there with NT, slapping a third player just breaks the intimacy we felt with the previous series.
Mobius is pretty underrated, deserves atleast a 3/5. I enjoyed it personally and only stopped due to a difficulty/skill wall. Tried to pick it up later again and was actually sad to see it hit EoS
Mobius FF mentioned! While glad the staff were able to continue in other projects, sad that Mobius did and still does have a chance to improve as a standalone product. I prefer the music over the story. People, the wiki editors, did wish the story was slightly revised, especially with certain elements in season 2. That meant pacing and character arcs. IMO, Vox is perfect. Anyways: "None shall remember those who do not fight..." May we meet and enjoy the world of Palamecia in whatever role we desire.
Mobius FF gameplay was honestly pretty top notch. I judge mobile games based on pretty simple but strict qualities and that game was ahead of it's time in terms of mobile game design. Mobile games should be designed around being vertical and being held in one hand.
Now I'm really curious how Dissidia Opera Omnia (DFFOO) scored after seeing so many mobile games at the bottom. The game was really fun and extremely generous compared to any of their other mobile games, so it'd be fun to see where it landed.
For all Opera Omnia had its flaws, namely switching from something tactical to something high energy and swapping, it did flesh out interactions impossible to flesh out, like Reks and Vaan or more of Jecht/Braska’s group, or even the effects of how a Remnant of Sephiroth would feel if they were not just controlled by Sephiroth, or even versions of Jihl Nabaat or Xande that are less bent of being on the villain’s side or ending the world.
@@sonofashoopuf8681 It was, lol. That's one main reason it didn't get much profit at all. No other game gives hundreds of draw tickets every month like OO did. It was easy to save up and have multiple pities' worth of diamonds
@@thestraydog I'm sure Dirge, like Crisis Core, will get a remake. FF7 is their cash cow (understandably. I love the franchise). Likewise, I bet all main title FF games will get the same remake treatment. Too much money to be had, lol.
I would genuinely love to see a remake of FF2 so people can see the beauty of the story of that game. I get why people say it but I finally had the opportunity to play it for myself because of the Pixel Remaster (didn't get to play it for years) and I do think if it had the "Remake" treatment, people would value it more.
@genesisSOC Yeah, local games I still have fun with. I hate that it didn't find the audience it could've for what it wanted to do. And honestly, I liked the character art and designs as well.
Hearing revenue was an issue is so sad because I would buy it. It's gotta be one of my favorite mobile games and I never got a chance to play the PC ver.
Poor Firion. But yeah the lesson here is stop wasting our time with scammy gatcha system games. It's sad to see good story ideas and characters go to waste on mobile games that become lost media.
Yeah that's basically what killed it. First Soldier was great and even had controller support on the mobile device. Personally I think it could be way bigger if Square actually decided to listen to the fans this time and release it to console and PC like everyone wanted. It was great, but their adamant idea to keep it mobile-only is why it failed
Look at Square's "reaction" to all their recent releases: make console-exclusive/mobile-only game, then have a public meltdown that it didn't sell. Their marketing department just never learns.
@@ofnir123At least now they seem to be taking notes from their sales data. But I wouldn't be surprised if FF7R-3 ends up as a Playstation exclusive, seeing as they had a deal with Playstation. Hopefully it'll be their last.
The due works his ass off and does a pretty good job with stuff he's ACTUALLY involved in. Shut the hell up about him just because you think he "ruined" Final Fantasy in God damned 2024.
@@magitekarms60 and nobody brought up KH story, lmao (not that it is hard to understand or anything like that). KH games are fun to play, have good combat and a fair amount of content. That's the only thing that matters.
I liked War of the Visions very much, but I hated that it was a mobile gatcha game. Should’ve just been a normal console game. Not easy to absorb such a big story when commuting. The story deserved your attention, especially with all the factions. I loved all the character designs too. But yeah the gatcha stuff made it really bad. You could never fully max out any character unless you got like 8 of them. Then there was how to perfect the weapons and the summons, and the job boards, and getting all the jewels to level up the job that made you use up the limited stamina etc. The game being a free to play mobile game made it less fun cuz it was those weird predatory practices that actively made too much of the game a drag. Way too grindy.
Agree with you. I also like the story & would love that Square Enix make an offline version of it as well as FFBE. I only focus on 5 character and it takes quite a long time & several resources to max them out in F2P way.
WotV was so hard to quit. I kept seeing the potential, but they just kept adding more layers of bs and I eventually had to admit it was never going to realize what it could be because it was, in the end, a money printer first. I'd love a standalone WotV game.
@ Yup. It was true added layers of bs that pushed me away too. The ONLY character I had that I was able to get to a high level was Engelbert and it was so exhausting getting him to that point. Couldn’t imagine doing that to at least 4 other characters
Would be nice if they patched it like all the bravest. Shame vid didn't mention that but then ff2 is just rote even with PR Boost, So I have low expectations.
I think FF2 deserves a remake. There are a lot of good ideas in there and a decent story, but it's bogged down by problems that were at least partially due to the time it was made in.
Final Fantasy II is broken on a fundamental level. No remaster will ever fix that. Actually, I'd argue that a lot of Square's FF2 remasters have made the game WORSE, as they keep fixing bugs in the engine... Ignoring that some of those bugs keep the game from becoming a disastrous slog.
All The Bravest being dead last is unsurprising. When it first dropped, absolutely nobody wanted it since overmonetization was already a hot button topic in the west, and it price-gated out any f2p fans that would go to bat for it.
It seems ATB (yuck, even for as not veteran as I am, it feels _wrong_ to dignify it with _that_ acronym) is the only time the entire FF fanbase ever agreed on something (Including myself of course). Even if this list was just a reverse popularity contest I will take that place as Gospel, and please Square, for the love of FUCK, never again...
My money is on Dirge of Cerberus for number one. Interesting concept, crappy execution, and it's probably the most well known amongst the fandom Edit: Well, egg, meet my face.
I’m gutted Final Fantasy Explorers is on here! ;-; it was so dense with content and I had so much fun coming up with builds, and creating crazy skills/spells. It was impressively challenging too, something I can’t say for a lot of Final Fantasy games. I didn’t realise people didn’t like it!
Same, it sucks being in the minority who enjoyed the ideas that it brought to life. I enjoyed fighting summons and being able to transform into characters from the series.
Same, the only thing i hate about it is because it stuck on the 3ds and 3ds isn't bad but it isn't ideal to play action/actionrpg games, rip my old 3ds xl buttons for me being a mh4u fan 😅
One more chirp from me. I honestly enjoyed the progression system in FFII. It effectively let the player decide how they wanted to build their team prior to the birth of the Job Change system in FFIII and it was the first game to actually have spells get stronger the more you used them. FFII ends up middle of the pack in my tier list, far higher than games like FFVII and FFIV After Years
Yeah I would argue final fantasy 2 is definitely underrated I have the game boy advance and PSP remasters I do love this game I would argue they were better games than final fantasy 1 and 3.
My guess is most people who "hate" FF2 haven't actually played it. The implementation is clunky, but replacing XP with getting stronger at what you actually do is a great idea. The fact that hitting yourself is the best way to get HP…okay…they botched that part. But instead of just making another generic heroes of the light game, they took some risks and tried to do something new. And it even has an actual story. I think people should at least play the Pixel Remaster, which smooths out some of the problems and lets you enjoy the good parts of the game.
10:23 "only if NT can break new ground" So they copied Gundam Versus but worse, and now there's no Dissidia for *anyone.* hope you're happy, Nomura. A new Dissidia on Vita would have put a Vita in my hands. No wonder the system died so fast.
I played hundreds of hours of First Soldier. I can honestly say I loved that game. I actually only gave Ever Crisis any attention at all because of First Soldier content. Really the only thing I can say they did wrong was stubbornly refusing to port it in any way. Many fans said "please, you don't even have to up the resolution, just let me play on any other device!" but they made it so the game couldn't even be emulated. The other stuff was honestly nothing I blame the devs for. I remember at launch they made it available for download early so that you could play minute one when servers went live and made that clear in social media posts, but many people saw the download available and thought the game was just out so they launched it and thought it was a technical issue when they could not connect to the server and the app store rating took a big hit as a result. Things like that made it hard to grow the playerbase so when people felt "done" as they tend to do with any game they were never replaced with new players, only bots, which bored other players into leaving. I would be thrilled for another chance to play it, especially the 3v3 mode.
I enjoyed FF Mobius and was thinking of eventually going back to play it. But they ended up ending service on it. I wish they would've kept the servers going even if they had stopped adding more content.
I mean, FF fans tend to be rather bipolar at times, sometimes overpissy and others too forgiving (cough cough dbz quest especially 11 cough). Also something about a Blank Project?
Urgh, Dissidia NT is a steaming piece of ... It ruined a fantastic spin-off series :{ The only good thing it did was including Y'shtola... dont judge me.
FIrst Soldier should have been on consoles, i think it would've done better. Hoping they return back to Final Fantasy Explorers and Dissida in the future. Especially when Final Fantasy Explorers has so much potential to be better.
Personally I think FFII is over hated, maybe it's because I've only played the PSP version, but it's relaxing to play, a bit mindless, one of those "I like went numbers go up" kind of game but enjoyable nonetheless
@speedrunz5life sounds like a skill issue to me... Ok, I'm just joking, it's definitely far from being the best I just don't think is as bad as some people think
in my opinion final fantasy became final fantasy with the second game and that's not nostalgia they are not even my first final fantasy games that would be 7,8 and 9 I didn't get to play the first two games until I got the remasters for the game boy advance and PSP years later in my teens.
Wotv had everything to be a hit. Its playstyle resembles a lot tactics. The story already had a solid background from ffbe and there was already a player base ready on day 1. The biggest problems however outclassed the qualities. First, it was published by a disgusting predatory company, gumi. Then, what it did mostly was split the successful team of ffbe into 2 games, meaning, instead of keeping one great game such as ffbe, they tried to keep up with 2 games at the same time. What could go wrong? Well ffbe global shut down last month and I hope I'm not too pessimistic but I feel that Wotv won't be here much longer, it's a bit unfair but the ffbe player base, which is easily one of the best player bases I have ever seen, holds a bit of a grudge to Wotv because it was basically the beginning of the decline of ffbe quality content. Other than that, ff2 really? That's one of my favourites...
At first Wotv was amazing, with some bad points sure but it was getting better. But after a year they made an already complicated gameplay even more complicated and I really disliked the focus on mono elemental team composition. At some point, playing that game became exhausting so I left. I tried it again not long ago and I could not understand anything. And it is sad because as you said that game had everything to be the best but it suffered from a series of bad decisions and at this point, I don't think it can recover.
@maximetauran3415 I never played wotv so I can't really tell but I played ffbe for many years and I heard about wotv a lot. The problems you said about wotv also happened with ffbe, when they started making units to focus on a single element when at the same time keeping an unhealthy pace with their power creep is when most people started slowly quitting the game. It's sad because the story was really good and the gameplay was nothing like I've seen on a mobile game. But that's what happens when the main focus from the developers is greed instead of maintaining success
I think the decline was way earlier ( started in the first month), remember how many Gungnirs were raised before. I got excited to see that such a game was announced, unfortunately never made it back, nor do I have the time or will to play another gacha. I am still of course sad about the EoS - the FFBE community is easily the best gaming commuity I ever was part of.
Yea it had a lot of dope ideas and was super fun, I just didn't really care about playing games on my phone all that much. If it was put on Switch or PC though I'd have been all over it.
That's how you know how the community is made of people that really want different things. Don't get me wrong, games like all the bravest, Dissidia NT and all those online with microtransactions games deserve to be there but games like Explorer, Crystal bearer or in particular FFII do not deserve to be as low as they are perceive to be. I guess Explorer and CB are more so a question of taste in Gameplay where they are not top dogs either by any mean but FFII is actually quite good and has been made better with the newer iterations of it through time. It really feels like it's just the effect of an echo chamber where it is okay to just bash FFII because it is somewhat an underlying truth within the community.
I think Nomura is a bad director or even lead designer. All his characters look samey, all his stories are mediocre at best, and convoluted at worst (Kingdom Hearts, for example). I also dislike how they keep pushing final fantasy into an action rpg rather than a classic jrpg, something Nomura has been pushing for a lot.
I’ve said it for over 20 years now. Nomura is a vastly overrated hack that can’t hit a deadline to save his life. FFVII is all he ever had and that’s why he’s milked it for what, 27 years now? LET IT DIE!
Nomura should be praised for what he is good at, *which is design.* The problem is that they gave him too much responsibility related to what he wasn't actually experienced in, as well as not considering how creatives often need to lean on a strong organiser to flourish when working on projects. Nomura could contribute with whacky ideas here and there, but he should never be put in charge as a director for anything but design. Even then, he still needs someone who ropes him back in, and makes realistic calls. This isn't an uncommon problem in the industry, with many high profile creatives having the same problem (Kojima comes to mind). In the end, this just comes back to poor leadership. Someone should've been there to see what their experienced people were actually good at, and promote them according to that, instead of areas they're not suited for.
@@theologamer he was head character designer, replacing Hideo Minaba. FFVII was his stepping off point to his undeserved success. After Sakaguchi was fired Nomura took over and ever since it’s nothing but failure and excuses. Kingdom Hearts sucks, FFVII remakes suck, FFXIII: all 3 of them suck, FFXII: two years delayed and still sucks, FF VS XIII: became FFXV, released half finished and oh yeah… SUCKS!!!
It wasn't really good though. It was a massive disappointment. But it's one of the few experiments SE has tried I wish they would give another shot with more budget. The premise was so cool but implementation was painful.
Anyone who buys into the Mobile FF games at this point deserve the loss of money. I swear they've shutdown as many games as they've made at this point. And yes, what NT did after dissidia duo decim managed was absolutely galling. Duodecim is legitmately good enough to be the only reason to own a PSP, NT could have just been duodecim, with more characters and a 3v3 mode, but they made all the characters shadows of what they where and it didn't have any of the fun elements.
Me after having not put any money on neither of Record Keeper, Mobius nor Opera Omnia: LOL, can't really say you're wrong tho. Sad that whatever remains of Dissidia is basically a discord server.
I actually really enjoyed first soldier. My reasoning is probably unique to others though. The reason being is it molded my childhood of playing final fantasy 7 and being in midgar and then my son's playing with me as the very obvious Battle Royale like fortnite that they love so much. It's too bad they didn't release it on multiple platforms.
Mobius is disappointing to see on this list because it was genuinely a refreshing take on the mobile ff game genre. I and many others loved and miss this game deeply and will never forgive them for not leaving us with a replay server 😢
I'm honestly surprised FF Explorers is on this list. I got this game and enjoyed the heck out of it as a nice mix of FF and Monster Hunter. It was a nice feel of how small you are when you fought someone like Alexander.
The Battle Royal was amazing. Best one I've played. Main problem is that the market was already saturated and pulling new players was impossible. FFXV a new empire was OK, not the best. Main problem found was that I couldn't find an alliance without kiddies with a power ego trip. Even the members would fall in line like toxic little bullies do. Never seen a player base so toxic.
I really loved Mobius, the story and gameplay were so good, apart from the drop rate on the gacha. Part 2 was even better with better job cards. I had all ultimate heroes and farmed most summon ability cards. I spent days and hours doing challenges and farming cards for long times. I would say it's not a bad game, at least according to my experience. The collab events were awesome too. I even had like 1k stamina potions left because you don't really need to use them unless you're playing for the whole day everyday. Very fond memories until it shut down. :( I'd say the horrible marketing was part of its downfall cuz I only found the game by chance. For Dissidia NT, I think the arcade thing along with simplifying movesets made the game very bad. Most of the game time was spent chasing enemies because the stages were way too wide and too chaotic with too many players. I'd love to see the psp version but remade.
Hadn't played FFII until this year, and my biggest problem with it is that the world and dungeon designs are obsessed with random encounters. Most dungeons have a guess-the-door mechanic where there will be 2-5 doors and only one of them will let you progress, and if you guess wrong you end up in the middle of an empty room and usually face an encounter trying to leave. As far as I know there's no way to know which door is the right one without trial and error, so it wastes time and feels bad. The world is gigantic and mostly empty, so it takes a long time to get anywhere, thus leading to even more encounters. It's just not as much of a crafted experience as the rest of the series, but it's still not nearly as bad as its reputation.
Whats makes Dimensions 2 even worse is the fact that the first one was actually a pretty competent FF game, pretty much FFV on mobile but with a original story and a largue cast of characters, honestly a very fun game
@St4rTr3v1Ut10n D2 was originally a gacha game that went out of service and then repackaged as a paid offline game Not only it plays nothing like a FF game but it also is missing TONS of contents that did not got carried over from when it was a online gacha
War of the Visions would have been such a great game if the crazy monetization didn’t kill it for so many of us. The characters, story, and gameplay were all really solid. But man… our poor wallets…
Mobius wasn’t bad. Right up until they started releasing premium jobs for insane amounts of money. Basically turning the game in to pay to win for more money than a brand new AAA game would cost.
FF7 The First Soldier...the game nobody wanted and nobody played. FF15 New Empire...the game nobody wanted and everybody played. Most confusing video game franchise ever.
@@KieranHamilton-y7s Er, people had been begging Square for a FF7 remake since like 2003 lol. Whatever your thoughts on the game are, I always like going back to youtube reaction videos to that E3 announcement with people losing their shit.
Dissidia NT disappointed me greatly as they took what we enjoyed from Dissidia/Duodecim and threw it away. They left us with a flat storyline, no customization, and a combat system that no active player of the PSP games asked for. All we wanted was PSP Dissidia, but on console with an expanded roster and online play, that's it, and they screwed that up. It took me playing Stranger of Paradise to actively forgive Team Ninja for the damage they did to Dissidia.
I liked the IDEA of DFFNT's story: characters retain their memories of previousl conflicts and absolutely DON'T want to go through that again and work together, even with the villains, to go back home? Sign me up! The fact that the characters were actually written IN CHARACTER compared to the previous games (Terra and Cloud especially) was a plus. The problem is that Dissidia NT was not supposed to be a story-focused game, and it shows. The original idea was clearly for it to be a mindless arcade game, and they had to add some semblance of a story for a console release that was probably not taken into account.
I won’t argue that the original NES version of FF2 is pretty bad (easily the worst main numbered game, bar none), but honestly, the many re-releases since have made it a completely fine experience. The leveling system will never not be weird, but everything else has been smoothed out to the point that it’s really not an issue.
Dissidia NT is surprisingly balanced. It is noticiable how they built the system for future balancing updates. It is sad that it came with severe problems to the West. Also, I feel sad for FF II. I really enjoyed farming and attacking to upgrade my characters status.
I didn't realize people disliked Mobius FF that much. I didn't play it for long before servers shut down, but i had fun for what little time I spent with it.
I unironically love Crystal Bearers. I have done a playthrough every single year around Christmas time since it came out in 2009. The gameplay is awful, but the character design and environments are gorgeous. It’s a bad game, but it’s MY bad game. In fact, it’s about time to dig out the old Wii and make sure everything is still in working order.
He put Crystal Bearers on here? Whaaaaat? It's so good. Great character designs, amazing soundtrack, really pretty visuals (especially for the Wii), and the gameplay is fun for a motion controlled game. Sounds like they scored it bad simply because "ALL MOTION CONTROL GAMES SUCK" which is such lazy thinking.
I have tried a bit of Crystal Bearers, and at first glance I kinda dig it! it's just a really, really goofy-ass physics playground, that also is ironically a visual stunner for the Wii.
@@scaryhobbit211 it is certainly goofy. But it’s also pretty heartfelt, and I feel a lot of love went into the character creation, if not the gameplay.
I imagine Square Enix classed their golden age according to sales and series popularity, which was definitely at a peak between VII and XII. In defense of that, it's a more objective scale than the inevitably subjectively biased 'my favorite' rankings that everyone else comes up with. Personally I don't waste time picking a favorite, I'm overly fond of too many of the titles to worry about that. But I was curious enough what you all thought was the worst to click this vid.
French suscriber here. I was talking with some friends before watch your videos and for us the answer was unanimous; it was a shady mobile game, this thing was so strange, i'd believe it was a malware or something, we're not sure but it may be Final fantasy Brigade Airbone, or Something. The best for me, my girlfriend and my two Friends: Final Fantasy 6 But if we want someone to discover the series?.Final Fantasy V. WE love your videos, now our bodies are ready, lets watch it😂
I'm still hurting from Dissidia NT and the atrocious gameplay. They really took something absolutely incredible, with a ton of replay value and fun, and got rid of all of it. Even the gameplay is worse, with the Bravery Attacks being locked to only like two directions with no ability to learn or change them. Such a missed opportunity
Final Fantasy II...sigh. OK I have a different opinion than most I think. It was around 2012 and I was just getting back into gaming, and more specifically FF games. I had a ps3 and I was considering purchasing the FF Origins combo pack from the ps1 days to be able to play FFI and FFII for the first time. I started to read reviews on Amazon and other places first. The reviews of FFI were great. However, the reviews for FFII made the game sound like it was total dogshit! That turned me off of it. Then in like 2014 or 2015, I decided to pull the trigger on the psp versions of I-IV. When it came time to finally play II, I was dreading it and my expectations could not have been lower. To my surprise, I didn't find it anywhere near those extreme lower expectations. I was thrilled that it turned out better than I expected! Now I still have II ranked in my bottom 3 or so mainline games, but I do still get enjoyment from playing it, because I initially shattered my expectations from playing it the first time.
Same, for long I avoided the game due to its reputation that I played most of the main entries until the only nes games remained were 1 and 2. Being in the mood for old school ff I wanted to start with 1 but my curiosity about 'the worst final fantasy' and having no other nes ff won over. To my surprise it wasn't as horrid as people claim, the psp version at least. I was surprised to see that it is not a bright-themed entry. U start the game with a losing battle, then cities get raided, and when we get to the outside world the music is just as gloomy. I was also surprised to see stuff like the main character being seduced by a female. That was wild to see considering how intimacy gestures are so rare in ff games and how characters seem immune to attraction no matter how skimpy female characters' clothes are. All in all it wasn't too bad an experience. It could've been better yes, some work on the dungeons, random encounters, story, characters, at least giving them more time and appeal to be able to feel sad when they die 'cuz I certainly couldn't feel anything for all the departed party memebers since the game hardly gave me time to know them, except for maybe Minwu. What I liked most tho was the vast open world we were allowed to wander, it didn't have many cities, but it wasn't limited like all next ff where 'the open world' isn't really open until the last third of the game. In 2 we can almost go everywhere early game and even have encounters with high-level enemies, it is like a ff with the liberty of zelda botw; a game I wish to see Square make one day. The music was great, battle/leveling system also wasn't that bad, I really liked being able to equip whatever I want to all party memebers. If Square intended to one day remake ff2, even in ff3 and 4 ds fashion, I'd be the first to pre-order it
Agreed, although it definitely is the 'black sheep' of the main line. FFI is easily the weakest out of the early games, but everyone gives it a pass because "it was first". It took me over a year to finish it without a guide, simply because I didn't know where to find the bottle. FFII is significantly more linear and grindy by comparison, but it has a better story and is a lot closer to FFIV than you'd think at first glance. The staff who did FFIV obviously took some inspiration from it.
@@LabCat _Final Fantasy_ was a product of its time. It was about as helpful as _Dragon Quest_ was; that is, obscure at best. Also worth noting is that the original came with a manual with a walkthrough, complete with a map and bestiary. My memory of these things has faded over 35 years, however.
Ff2 on here is insane to me. It is one of my favorite ff games. It allows for so much freedom and replayability like ffv does. It tried mechanics games to this day copy that people love. I replay it every year or two with restrictions and role-playing with characters. It is so much fun playing with restrictions and the leveling system is a lot of fun for anyone that enjoys grinding even a little. I see the flaws but it was the second game in the series and tried so much new which people don't seem to look at and embrace.
Absolute best, even if Opera Omnia and Mobius were not thay far behind, it was clear that RK was something especial, despite the gacha. Couldn't jump to JP when Global died, suffering that heartbreak twice? I'm not that masochistic...
The first soldier could have been a good game, they could have easily released it on console and pc, the weird thing is that I have a samsung s22 and it still lagged, also the game was horribly balanced, chocobos were so op, people played the whole game being on them and 1 shotting people
Oh, Final Fantasy 2. My feeling to this game is "so much unrealised potential". You just feel they wanted way more than they were able to deliver with this one. It is a deeply flawed game, no question. But they really have my respect for what they tried to do. Telling a grand epic story with the limitations of the NES console
It really does bug me that A New Empire is still around while Opera Omnia and Record Keeper were shut down.
Understandable. I've played the heck out of those two. Meanwhile, I've not heard of A New Empire.
It's all about the money. If the game isn't profitable, there's no longer a reason to keep it running.
Record keeper is still active in Japanese. If you can handle translating with screenshots or other similar program, you can still play record keeper! I play it still

Mobileslop.
I really enjoyed mobius. I wish it was still online or they could some how make an offline version to it
Never installed it, so I can't tell whether technical limitations were a reason, but I played FFBE and it seemed like the community was interested in that game more.
(It had like, 8 crossover characters, but like 80 crossover jobs)
Though to the point, almost every smartphone, including trash ones of the time could run FFBE because of its simple engine. Mobius was essentially a ps3 game, and had a steam port of to make it's graphics even higher fidelity. At that time most people's devices weren't up to snuff for running console quality graphics on mobile.
Morbius raaaaaa ☝😈😈😈😈
I played that on iPad back in the day. It really wasn’t all that tbh
I'm shocked that 14's 2010 release isn't on there, considering it was so bad it almost ended the franchise and they had to nuke it.
I am too, but I'll bet most people that follow FFU are vastly more familiar with 14's re-launch than what it originally was.
They didn't nuke it though, they dropped a small moon with an apocalytpic dragon god inside on it

I hate that Dissidia is effectively dead now because of NT. I pray that someday they can port Duodecim to modern platforms.
I want a new game with Duodecim's gameplay and OO's roster (along with updates to include XVI and some more spinoffs like Mystic Quest, Tactics Advance/A2, and Mobius)
@@Chernobog2 That would be fantastic and I would buy it day one, but I'm just gonna hold out hope for the Duodecim port for now!
@TheBlackSeraph at the end of the day, Dissidia is basically an anime arena fighter, and we have games like Sparking Zero with enormous rosters
@@Chernobog2 I still think that a Dissidia 4 could have a wider variety of character-based mechanics if they expanded the roster as there are a lot of characters with unique skills that would work well in an arena fighter.

Wasnt SaGa gatcha actually sucessfull?
@Jrdotan Success doesn't always equate to quality and while I made a blanket statement saying that their mobile games tank, there have been good ones. They just tend to flame out quickly.
@@hexginnkgo You are right, however since you said Mobius was good, i can't see how the SaGa one would be bad since it is better than mobius on most things, specially progression-wise and character roaster
I think square is just bad at FF mobile games specifically
Well they are bringing back old games like Dissidia.. so it is possible..
I think the main issue was that it only released on mobile, If they had started with the game as a Pc/Console release first, and then ported to mobile later once it cemented itself as something a little more unique from the other Battle royale games that were already flooding the market.
i agree, if they ported to PC it definitely be popular
@@EricSanAltarez What do you mean they bringing back Dissidia?
It should’ve been a console release!
Dawn of Souls hasn't left my GBA in damn near a couple decades. Both great games for different reasons.
2 is one of the best
i personally think FF2 is over hated.
FF2 is neither over-hated nor under-hated. It gets the exact amount of hate that it deserves, which is a lot.
@@GarlyleWilds yeah i think the game aged poorly but i don’t think for its time it was a bad game. Some games age well and some don’t but that does not mean they were bad games at their peak so to say. Hope it makes sense what i am trying to say lol
the international version makes X-2 way better so much variety and endings lol
If FF2 was branded as a SaGa game instead of a FF game people would hate it a lot less.
I think forcing the 3v3 in Dissidia NT was a terrible choice. Made it harder ro find games, and the AI teammates are atrocious.
3vs3 should have been an option not the standard
I wish there was finalk fantasy mobius offline, so we could play it when servers are down.
Same for Final Fantasy Record Keeper. I was hoping the success of Mega Man X Dive Offline would prove offline versions could be viable.

Seems I dropped something...
Or Dissidia Opera Omnia.
Anyways:
"None shall remember those who do not fight..." May we meet and enjoy the world of Palamecia in whatever role we desire.
Mobius FF gameplay was honestly pretty top notch. I judge mobile games based on pretty simple but strict qualities and that game was ahead of it's time in terms of mobile game design. Mobile games should be designed around being vertical and being held in one hand.
Justice for Final Fantasy II honestly
Now I'm really curious how Dissidia Opera Omnia (DFFOO) scored after seeing so many mobile games at the bottom. The game was really fun and extremely generous compared to any of their other mobile games, so it'd be fun to see where it landed.
I pity DFFOO...
@@iantaakalla8180Yeah, I didn’t play for long, but Opera Omnia was amazing. Damn, I wish I could play that again.

CHAOS!!
@ Yup playing the game F2P is such an arduous task. I also liked BE as well. Shame the cool characters and stories are relegated to dead mobile games.
Final Fantasy II is not that bad. It did have some good ideas, and the Pixel Remaster has basically fixed the issues with it.
@ Have you actually played it? It’s fine.
@@st0rmchild I went all the way to Pandemonium in three different versions, and no, it's not.

All The Bravest being dead last is unsurprising. When it first dropped, absolutely nobody wanted it since overmonetization was already a hot button topic in the west, and it price-gated out any f2p fans that would go to bat for it.

Same here. Surprising lack of the usual punching bags like Mystic Quest, X-2, FF4AY and the FFXIII series.

I actually loved Mobius with all my heart... I wish it was higher up...

The only good thing it did was including Y'shtola... dont judge me.
FIrst Soldier should have been on consoles, i think it would've done better.
Hoping they return back to Final Fantasy Explorers and Dissida in the future. Especially when Final Fantasy Explorers has so much potential to be better.
God, Explorers truly doesn't deserve to be listed as one of the worst. Game is so fun.
Wack, I didnt think Mobius was THAT bad
Excuse me, Dimensions 2 is amazing, and Mobius Final Fantasy kept me alive when times was bad, how dare Mobius be on this list
Personally I think FFII is over hated, maybe it's because I've only played the PSP version, but it's relaxing to play, a bit mindless, one of those "I like went numbers go up" kind of game but enjoyable nonetheless
I especially like when 6 unbeatable enemies randomly pop up and kill me instantly so I have to save the game after every step I take
@speedrunz5life sounds like a skill issue to me... Ok, I'm just joking, it's definitely far from being the best I just don't think is as bad as some people think
@@speedrunz5lifeyou probably didn't prepare enough before getting into the fight cause that never happened to me
in my opinion final fantasy became final fantasy with the second game and that's not nostalgia they are not even my first final fantasy games that would be 7,8 and 9 I didn't get to play the first two games until I got the remasters for the game boy advance and PSP years later in my teens.
Didnt expect mobius will be here. Really liked the game tbh
Always remember the names of those who fought
They made a huge mistake in not letting people play The First Soldier on the PC, personally. I enjoyed the hell out of it
Yea it had a lot of dope ideas and was super fun, I just didn't really care about playing games on my phone all that much. If it was put on Switch or PC though I'd have been all over it.
Mobius 😢
"None shall remember the names of those who do not fight."
"Give us a hug, kupo..."
S Yellow, the name of one who fought
It's mobin time
The fact that so many of these were from Tetsuya Nomura's desk is telling...
mobius, i will forever miss you :c
A person acting sane in a discussion about Final Fantasy!?
WHAT NEW SPORE OF MADNESS OS THIS!?
How dare you say Mobius is bad :(
He didn't... This is based on consensus.
Mobius is ass 🗑️😂🤣😅😂
What version of Freya's Theme is playing in the background?
Nomura is present in all the bad decisions. Something to ponder about.
LET IT DIE!
@mikemccann978 and he wasnt responsible for VII. He was a character designer, that's it.
Nomura should be praised for what he is good at, *which is design.*
The problem is that they gave him too much responsibility related to what he wasn't actually experienced in, as well as not considering how creatives often need to lean on a strong organiser to flourish when working on projects.
Golden Age is 7 to 12? Impossible. They don't even have the Opera Floozy!
Yeah, I would say the Golden Age is 3 - 7 and 9.
Final Fantasy Explorers wasn't that bad
My friends and I got it because we are all fans of Monster Hunter.
I liked it because I got to be a Blue Mage, the best class.
@@speedrunz5lifeI really liked it honestly
The Eidolon Sealing method was junk... but the rest was fun
It wasn't really good though. It was a massive disappointment. But it's one of the few experiments SE has tried I wish they would give another shot with more budget. The premise was so cool but implementation was painful.
Chocobo GP (2022) is quite literally unplayable. It's #1 for sure
ah yes
Chocobo Racing remake with baffled microtransaction
Sike decision indeed
It's better now they've removed all the microtransactions.
I don't know how they fucked it up so badly. Like, how hard is it to make good track design in a racing game?
I loved ff2(psp version)
Anyone who buys into the Mobile FF games at this point deserve the loss of money. I swear they've shutdown as many games as they've made at this point. And yes, what NT did after dissidia duo decim managed was absolutely galling. Duodecim is legitmately good enough to be the only reason to own a PSP, NT could have just been duodecim, with more characters and a 3v3 mode, but they made all the characters shadows of what they where and it didn't have any of the fun elements.
Me after having not put any money on neither of Record Keeper, Mobius nor Opera Omnia:
LOL, can't really say you're wrong tho.
Sad that whatever remains of Dissidia is basically a discord server.
Ty the mobile games are ass 🗑️😂🤣😅
Mobius was an Amazing game in my opinion.
I will never, ever give Mog a hug he can keep all to himself, ever again...
I cry. I cry for Mobius.
I thoroughly enjoyed Mobius. I miss it 😢
I actually really enjoyed first soldier. My reasoning is probably unique to others though. The reason being is it molded my childhood of playing final fantasy 7 and being in midgar and then my son's playing with me as the very obvious Battle Royale like fortnite that they love so much. It's too bad they didn't release it on multiple platforms.
Mobius FF was fun and has epic music.
The music was amazing. I can't get the battle theme off my head at times.
Always remember the names of those who fought
Hard disagree with Mobius and Dimensions 2. Had a lot of funs with those. Still sad Mobius died.
Final Fantasy 2 was the only one on this list I played. And I thought it wasn’t that bad
Yeah, people like II. Some people just like to hate on it because of the prototype SaGa mechanics.
The best thing about Dissidia NT was the birth of DFFOO - Which outlived it.
Best Gacha I've ever played and I miss it
more reasons to show that Tetsuya Nomura is a hack
Such a hack he had next to no involvement in these.
Stop using him as a scapegoat you weirdo.
Wrong
Dimensions 2 sucked?? Aww man I completely forgot about it literally till your comment! I really liked the first one, in fact I might re-download it!
@St4rTr3v1Ut10n D2 was originally a gacha game that went out of service and then repackaged as a paid offline game
Not only it plays nothing like a FF game but it also is missing TONS of contents that did not got carried over from when it was a online gacha
@@akiradkcn Ah shit aight then I get you
War of the Visions would have been such a great game if the crazy monetization didn’t kill it for so many of us. The characters, story, and gameplay were all really solid. But man… our poor wallets…
What!? Mobius was such a fun game, I wish it would come back :(
Mobius wasn’t bad. Right up until they started releasing premium jobs for insane amounts of money. Basically turning the game in to pay to win for more money than a brand new AAA game would cost.
Darryl woke up and chose violence today.
FF7 The First Soldier...the game nobody wanted and nobody played. FF15 New Empire...the game nobody wanted and everybody played. Most confusing video game franchise ever.
FF7R, the game nobody asked for and nobody bought.
@@KieranHamilton-y7s Er, people had been begging Square for a FF7 remake since like 2003 lol. Whatever your thoughts on the game are, I always like going back to youtube reaction videos to that E3 announcement with people losing their shit.
People did play first soldier, f*ck outta here
Dissidia NT disappointed me greatly as they took what we enjoyed from Dissidia/Duodecim and threw it away.
Ur wrong
@
Oh shit, I didn’t realize. Thanks for letting me know. I’ll go walk into the ocean.
I may be biased, but Mobius was a phenomenal game. I do not agree at all!
Indeed.
I second that.
Definitely don't deserve to be this low
i was sad. i spent a lot on it and quite liked how casual it was. i agree it was a decent title.
Mobius is ass 🗑️😂🤣😅
I forgot about ATB, I remember that even when I had the game hacked, and was able to “purchase” stuff for free. The game is so unbelievably bad.
The best for me, my girlfriend and my two Friends:
Final Fantasy 6
But if we want someone to discover the series?.Final Fantasy V.
WE love your videos, now our bodies are ready, lets watch it😂
Still hurts that first soldier is gone. I absolutely loved playing it.
I completely forgot about All The Bravest, that horrible insult of a game
i dont think final fantasy explorers was a bad game
If Square intended to one day remake ff2, even in ff3 and 4 ds fashion, I'd be the first to pre-order it
@rayoflight1920 same here, brother!
Only one i disagree with is Final Fantasy II. I actually really like it.
@LabCat I do like FFI but FFII I find more interesting being the first that had a set cast of characters.
You can like it but objectively as an FF game it really isn't one at all. It's a SaGa game in FF clothing.
Honestly it was pretty bad
The dumb part is that War of the Visions is still fully supported on global while the game it spun off from (Brave Exvius) shut down just last month.
They should've let FF record keeper renew their license. Best FF mobile game ever
Absolute best, even if Opera Omnia and Mobius were not thay far behind, it was clear that RK was something especial, despite the gacha.
Couldn't jump to JP when Global died, suffering that heartbreak twice? I'm not that masochistic...
Dude, Final Fantasy II? Really? Have you played it? It's one of the best imo, lot of references to Star Wars also.
that is most of them
Editor: I liked 2 and gave it a high score. I was sad to see it place so low, too
FF2 has exactly zero Star Wars references.
As someone who likes FFII, I do not consider it one of the best.
Maybe they are thinking of IV
Rest in Peace Brave Exvius IMO
The first soldier could have been a good game, they could have easily released it on console and pc, the weird thing is that I have a samsung s22 and it still lagged, also the game was horribly balanced, chocobos were so op, people played the whole game being on them and 1 shotting people
Oh, Final Fantasy 2. My feeling to this game is "so much unrealised potential". You just feel they wanted way more than they were able to deliver with this one. It is a deeply flawed game, no question. But they really have my respect for what they tried to do. Telling a grand epic story with the limitations of the NES console
