      Thanks Jinxx. The great thing about this blend file is that all the cutter shapes, armatures and animations can be applied to future meshes.

    Absolutely fantastic video.
    I am also starting modding for DCS but literally crawling at the moment.
    This video is such a guideline for me and for sure another ones.
    Thanks for sharing your achievements and wishing you very success on your development.

      HA ha thanks. That was just a fun bit of practice to be honest, and the result was not worthy to enter DCS, so it went in the recycle bin with other some crappy mods :) It is no threat to your work ;) I wish you success building yours; it is an aircraft worthy for DCS and had everything.. looks, power, speed, British, and was carrier capable.

    Nice video, do you know if it's possible to make a entire flyable aircraft with the newer blender edm exporter now? I thought some critical things used to be missing in the past. I want to model a MiG-25PD but I already know blender but not 3ds max. I'm just wondering if it would be better to learn 3ds Max 2020.

    • @fireblaze7994
      @fireblaze7994  4 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      To recommend what to learn is a difficult question. 3DS Max is what Eagle Dynamics use, but there is a cost for using it legitimately. The version I used for this is model is the newer version of the export tool. While it is not supported by Eagle Dynamics in any way, for the hobbiest modeller I would recommend it as it is free. There are still functions I am tinkering with in this tool, such as bump mapping. I also made this aircraft on this video th-cam.com/video/jlq0V3DmXf4/w-d-xo.html&ab_channel=KIRBY in Blender, on which you can see some bump mapping.

    This is a very good mod. I'm working on a DCS mod. There are difficulties in producing lights such as gun firing animations and navigation lights of ships. Can you tell me how to do that? Or is there any reference for that?

      Hi, at the moment it is not a good time for me to do much on the modelling side of things, as I have other commitments. I would consider working with someone when I come back to projects, but it would be someone who could do more on the code side of things, especially help with the EFM. C++ code is the an area I have barely touched and I am not getting much time to look into it, nor am I getting much research time.

    You do realize there will be enough people thinking you actually brought a Sea Fury into DCS? Also, that making an aircraft for it is as easy as putting in a 3D model...
    You should have put a notice somewhere that this is an FC3 mod and it does not fly anywhere like an actual prop-driven plane. Also, there is no EFM example available for those one could build the FM code upon.

    • @fireblaze7994
      @fireblaze7994  4 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      Hi, thank you for your comments. I did bring a Sea Fury into DCS. The title of the video states "quick build" and the description of this video clearly states this is a practice build using non destructive modelling techniques in Blender, and is not a serious model development. Incidentally the C++ template solution for EFM flight models can already be found in your very own copy of DCS --> "Eagle Dynamics\DCS World\API\ExternalFMTemplate\ED_FM_Template.sln". There is a historical EFM demo which contains a solution for a semi functional EFM. I do now an EFM template which can compile to a dll based on this work... forums.eagle.ru/showthread.php?t=95985. I would recommend if you read all 100 odd pages and not just download the first link, as this was a dev in progress, and issues were discussed, people made their own releases. I have not yet learned this aspect of mod development, but I will cover this on my Bede BD-5J series. To develop an EFM will take months of research for all the FM circumstances inside and outside of the given aircraft's flight envelope.

      @getsideways7257 4 ปีที่แล้ว

      @@fireblaze7994 Hello and you are welcome. So, you mean the FM you are using for the plane is based on Cpt. Smiley's F-16 code? That's commendable, but I don't think it exactly fits a piston-engined aircraft. Also, what did you do about the aerodynamic coefficients for the tables? It usually takes at least using CFD software to populate the tables. I hope you didn't just use the F-16's coefficients as is? Either way, it's great that more people are joining the EFM bandwagon. DCS definitely deserves only elaborately created mods. An learning proper FM building is the very first step to that.

      @@getsideways7257 it is disheartening because I feel you are either misreading or misinterpreting my replies, and it is coming across as scrutiny. All the scrutiny you have passed is covered in my original description, or in my replies. I do not try to mislead anyone, and it is clear from the bulk of this video that it is about practising modelling techniques. I have a video series for the BD-5J, that covers LUA, and will cover binaries when I understand them, I am a C# dev not a C++. C++ is much closer to the architecture than C# so will take me time get to grips with it. Up to now I have an EFM template which can compile, I state nothing more and nothing less. The EFM will be for a different project, my Bede BD-5J. I do disagree with your point about DCS only deserving EFM, anyone attempting to model an aircraft in DCS must start to learn somewhere. If they are proud of their advancement of knowledge then they should show their work, as I have done. Anyone releasing their work as a fully accurate representation, or someone wanting to sell their work should indeed have all the scrutiny thrown at them. Surely the first step is to have a model in game? A model does not always need an FM, but an FM MUST have a model. I believe most dev teams have multiple people doing tasks they specialise in, such as people to code cockpit, FM, skinners, modellers; I have just me and a friend who sometimes tinkers with the LUA at FC level. We both fit this in with our families, and real life jobs. FC level describes the fidelity of the cockpit, not the FM, which in Flaming CLiff's case is mostly PFM (professional Flight Model). As the Fury has no dll it is indeed SFM.

      @@fireblaze7994 Well, it's certainly fine to learn in many ways. The problem is, lately too many people started cluttering DCS with mods utilizing either a created from scratch, ripped or bought elsewhere 3D-model with the flight dynamics "borrowed" from the FC3 pack. And that is basically IP infringement (especially if the model was ripped). Also, using Cpt. Smiley's or nibbylot's code without mentioning the original authors (and the NASA papers the FMs are based on) is not a nice thing to do, regardless if it goes into a commercial or a free of charge product. As a creative person you most likely wouldn't be ok if your creations were used elsewhere without even as much as crediting you for being the original content creator. So, it makes sense to be perfectly clear about what the mod is and what it isn't.
      If your Sea Fury is using SFM, that's absolutely fine, but it would be better if you mentioned that somewhere. It's always a good idea to explicitly point out what kind of a flight model a mod is using.
      FC doesn't really have much to do with the cockpit. If we're getting all out pedantic about this, the cockpit is more about being either ASM or SSM. But those are mostly buzzwords, just like the PFM, SFM and EFM abbreviations. I would personally call this approach to flight modeling Multi-LUT Multi-Aspect Flight Dynamics Modeling.

    • @getsideways7257
      @getsideways7257 4 ปีที่แล้ว

      @@fireblaze7994 By the way, I wholeheartedly disagree that an FM must have a model. First of all, in a sim like this it's the FM that is the most important thing, not the model. It's absolutely possible to fly with no model at all and still get an idea of how the aircraft handles in general. Of course it's better to have at least some placeholder visuals, but that's not really all that important.
      The 3D model stage should only be done after ensuring you have a fully fleshed-out flight dynamics model on your hands, otherwise it's just a waste of time (not counting the experience gained in the process). Unless, of course, you can definitely find an expert willing to code a proper FM for your 3D model.
      Too many people these days tend to think that as long as they create a great-looking shape and textures, the plane is guaranteed to fly well. And that's why the FSX/P3D platform is choke full of useless aircraft that don't fly anywhere close to as they should. I certainly hope DCS is not going to turn into that. And it looks like ED are supporting my point of view, which is a relief.
      Now, all this is not necessarily directed at you, since you seem to be serious about your other project and are willing to learn C++ and the NASA process. That is very much commendable. Just needed to share my thoughts on this.
