Fast bike for what it is. Faster than most stock cars that’s for sure. Good video 👊

Took one of these to Germany in 1984. Autobahn driving was great. Sold it off when I returned to the USA in '88. Roads here are a mess and most Mericans can't drive worth a squat.

Great video. What kind of mirrors and bar do you have on the bike?

I know launching is where seconds are cut... I'll bet if you practiced your launch techniques, I'll bet you could get a hi-12 pass! Alot of stress on the drivetrain though... I certainly wouldn't want to try a hi-rev launch, and shred something costly, and time-consuming to repair.... Like the video though, makes me want to jump on my 83 650 whenever I watch this! Aloha from Oahu, Hawaii... By the way, I'm always impressed by how the 650SC can tool comfortably along in 6th gear at 40mph, but you can wind the hell out of the gears when need be, as evidenced by you just barely got into 5th gear before crossing the line... loved it!

The key to a good launch on something with a manual is letting the clutch slip.
You need to engage the rear brake in order to do that. Most people put Hydra hand brakes on their manual cars to do this. It forces the clutch to slip and prevents wheel spin/drive train shock.

All mistakes during a run add up, and the launch is the hardest part to do right. The line between wheelspin, wheelie, or bogging the engine is tough to walk consistently, but leaving the line abruptly is the goal. Best times require a good swift kick in the pants leaving the line. It's murder on the driveline, can be scary on some bikes to do, but it looks like that's where your 12 second run is hiding from you.

only 3/4 throttle through first gear, and a soft launch. Your bike will break into the 12's. I get that your bike is probably your daily driver and you didn't want to beat on it too bad

Allan Drake didn't really wanna beat on it too hard cause I had to ride it 7hrs to get to the strip, but I've got a truck now so I won't be as nervous about pushing it harder.
