I used to do loads of trackdays. Club raced for 13 years. Spent a fortune on tuning and practice. If I had my time again I'd spend my money on training. No point going around in circles hoping to get faster on your own. Get some proper training and reap the rewards.
Awesome video and very timely for me. I am 45 and I have been riding my old Ducati 998 on the road for years. Then I realized I had no idea what I was doing, so I recently picked up a YCF 125. Ive been training in parking lots once or twice a week on the little bike and going to the local karting track. At first, my ego was reluctant to try such a small bike, but I cant put into words how much Ive learned. But of course, I still have a long way to go as I am far from mastering the 125.
Nice video, and learning to ride a small bike fast isnt the easiest after the power of a big powerful bike, small track lots of different turns and to be able to check the data so you can see the results would be awesome, then to have one of the fastest riders to explain it all to you, what a great day cheers to you both been a big fan of Ant West for many years
100% this. I’ve been on a similar journey. I’ve talked about it a lot on my channel. I’m 53 and 6ft. Started on a liter bike on the track and found my happy place on my 660. At our age we are mature enough to actually leave. our ego at the door, and listen and learn. Good on you! Sweet as..
I just had to comment one more time. The idea that you get to have personal feedback, 1-on-1, with one of the greatest motorcycle racers of our time, is nothing short of astounding. What an experience. Wow.
as a 47 year old guy who has 29 years of riding experience on the road and as good as zero on the track I can relate. I have done riding courses for the road and each of them has been humbling, no matter how good you think you are, you always learn and improve. going on a track must be such a different animal. great video.
Some good stuff to be learned right there eh! Ive always two finger braked from my MX days. Love the small tight circuit for the lessons too. Awesome👍🏻
I mainly use my middle finger only in the twisties on my Z900. It’s the longest and strongest finger. Couldn’t imagine how people use 4 fingers. Completely ham fisted riding … 😂
@@ma3stro681 ... try that on a 1970's z900 and you wouldn;t even slow down ! never mind stop !!! It was a grab as BIG a handfull as you can ! ... even with a twin disc conversion on all 70's "superbikes"
A small track with a 300cc bike is probably about as equivalent to karting is for road racing, and all pro drivers start in a kart… big engines and sick parts are great, but learning to push something smaller to its limit has more impact while learning the techniques required to use all that big power and grip
I’ve been riding track for two years now and just made it to advanced group best advice I give is get with a control rider and learn and ask questions. nothing better than seat time
I've been back braking (it stabilises the bike) and trail braking for years. Maybe because on the bikes I started on in the 70s the front brake was weak.
most of my mates agree that the best fun we ever had was riding smaller bikes, getting the most out of a 250cc bike, rather than having to constantly rein in the power on a big 1200cc machine, always watching out for the speedo and your driving licence I went to a bike rally a couple of years, and two guys turned up on Honda 90cc cubs with huge grins on their faces - full throttle all the way apparently !! They decided to leave the Triumph Speed Triple and the GSXR at home for that weekend - no regrets
What an incredible video. These are the type of videos that I thoroughly enjoy watching. Absolutely incredible. Thanks a millie for sharing this experience with us.
Bro!! I thought the guy in green leather riding is you. And i was like "daaammnn looking good man smooth riding..." bruh it was the pro rider lol good video 😂
Awesome - I think you did a great job there of showing how useful and safer it is to get expert tuition to go on a track. I would be keen even if I don’t race it is good to get proper updates to your riding technique. I was initially trained on my first bike a VFR400R by a UK road (short) track racer and a lot of stuffAnt was going through I remember all that. Even now go into a corner trailing the rear brake
Would have been good to see some lap times with Ant setting a base run so you can compare improvement through out your session.Awesome little training facility.
Does this mean we will get a 250-450cc build soon?! I miss my little Honda CB300R sometimes just because it was fun, light, cheap, and got great mpg. I traded it up for a HD Nightster Special.
We've all been there "I need a bigger bike to go any faster" Then someone passes you and leaves you for dead on a bike that's half the displacement you're riding. "Well, I guess I'll just shut up about the bike now".
Hi Kent, your breathing on the first few laps sounded like you'd just ran a marathon.🤣 It's true how much we don't know, having ridden for over 40 years I would be in the same position as you when you started. I bet you got a lot out of that one on one. Thanks for sharing. Always great to watch Ant racing too.
Through my channel and love of motorbikes I recently met an ex-racer myself and one of these days I will check out their "Track Days" they go to quite often. Some of the bikes they ride are around 600cc and track builds so it's fun to learn about all that. I never been on a track, but maybe one day. The problem is I'd have to get in shape and well, I like food too much. lol We'll see! Fun video thanks.
There is a motovlogger out of SoCal (1M+ subscribers sadly) that could greatly use some training like this. But he would insist on using a 220 hp superbike and be more worried about the color of his sprocket bolts, as well as using the excuse for his poor form that he needed a bike with "GP shift" (even though you don't shift on this little track)
just an advise when you add a text or an arrow or anything add a sound effect like swosh or click that way the text or ant addiision just pops and it makes it a bit more engaging
