On our way through, I took the skull fossil. I knew if I didn’t say what I took, you’d all ask. Actually, now that I think about it, everyone asks anyway. Comments are good for the TH-cam algorithm.
Thank you so much for commenting. I was really concerned about this. I was asking about it all video
But which fossil did you take?
Based on TID/SID right
Oooofff it should be dome fossil
lol
Shuckle-only is basically the experience of doing a Pokemon run with a pet rock
It OK you can go when your ready
@@jakk2631Beat me to the punch.
Geodude:
Throw a rock hard enough at some pokemon and you'll win
@@DefinitelyNotAFerret might need to bring a potato cannon along for the late game, though. Snorlax is not going to care about any weak human throwing arm
I like how a lot of this run went: "I am super worried about the next part." followed by "That wasn't nearly as bad as I expected."
And thats why you don't Fuckle with Shuckle.
If you want to make the most use of Shuckle, don't bother getting speed evs. Instead, fight Bidoofs for HP, to add even more tankiness and help win the chip war
At level 100 having max hp ev's is about 1/4th of your total max hp.
Definitely worth it over an insignificant speed bandage on base 5 speed.
@@TyroRNG exactly. Shuckle will never outspeed anything anyway, so might as well invest in a better stat
correct 252HP/252Atk/4Spe Adamant is most common
For Shuckle, and other pokemon with really lopsided defenses (very low hp, very high def/spdef), putting your EV points into HP actually is super useful. The math can be a little complicated, but think of it like this. If you're taking 1 damage per hit, gaining 5 hp means you can take 5 more hits. So Shuckle actually gets a LOT bulkier with HP EVs.
It also makes bide viable for a lot longer
"Spam rest and hope for the best"
What a line
dont fuckle with the shuckle!
"only shuckle Pokemon in combat" lol I love it
17:13 Ah yes, my favorite pokemon, Obamasnow
14:55 When fighting Floatzel you should have opened with Bug Bite. You would eat his berry and heal up while also denying him the free heal.
Let's explain the rules: Don't fuckle with shuckle.
I don’t have any problem with sped up ep and health bars
I actually think it’s a great quality of life improvement
And it can only mean we get more mdb content ❤
Hehe yeahh.... Shhhhuckle....
I’m surprised Power Trick was never utilized or even brought up
Power Trick is useless on Shuckle without Trick Room. The only circumstances where it would be useful on its own is if you manage to Encore the opponent's last Pokémon on a status move.
I'd bet he either doesn't know what it does or thought it did something else. I thought Guard Swap was the move that switched atk/def lol
Shuckle is so slow that it would be immediately outsped and OHKOd if it tried Power Trick
Maybe it could work if the opponent only has special moves in their whole team, but that's very unlikely and not worth the move slot in general
I wasn't expecting it to be a winning strategy, at the very least i figured MDB would mention it in passing like "Power Trick turning Shuckle's 230 Def into its attack sounds broken on paper, but its too slow to really take advantage of that because then we'd be too frail" or something along those lines
@@thatpachirisuguy5861 Substitute -> Trick Room -> Power Trick might work, but would probably make battles feel really repetitive.
21:44, that guy is adorable and needs a run. Week 1 of requesting a Mantyke only run, dealer's choice of game.
I LOVE MANTYKE! YES!
Although, doesn’t Mantyke have like base 110 special defense? It might be too good for a solo run, although if I could, I’d 100% try it one day.
@@russellsefton3368 I wouldn't know, despite having seen every run so far I haven't learned much about what constitutes above-average stats.
@@russellsefton3368lmfao so I went to check Bulbapedia because I was curious. The base spdef is actually 120. But the reason it's hilarious is because Bulbapedia is currently all monochrome black and white, on April Fools Day
@@DullUsername all I know is that I also want a Mantyke solo run.
Absolutely no issues with you using rare candies, no matter the run imo. All it does is save time (and sanity) for you, and we get more content and quicker to watch so it’s a win-win! Use whatever means necessary to do these runs MDB, your already going through enough just doing the challenges! Great video as always, keep up the great work sir ❤
Yeah we are here to enjoy the run with you, saving you an hour of grinding by just using rare candies doesn't change the run at all, and will change 1 sentence of your explanation. "I grinded for 10 levels" to "i used rare candies for 10 levels".
Also, if pro nuzlockers can use rare candies, you can use rare candies for something FAR less competitive.
1:40 Ah yes, only Shuckle Pokemon
"Shuckle has zero attack, you will lose"
Nah dry bread: "Nah I'd win"
11:09 Juvi got the juice, rival got the pulp.
Algorithm! Engagement!
too bad you couldn't breed for Accupressure, as Accupressure shuckle is absolutely bonkers.
The easy way to cheese a Shuckle run feels like it should involve Toxic stalling. Curious to see where this goes.
I do miss my gen 2 defense curl/rollout shuckle strat, but gen 4 makes me curious to see a gyroball/power trick stat, maybe on a trickroom team, just to see if this madness is possible xD
8:58 yeah tthe rocket hide out of platinum , clasical XDD
9:00 Rocket hideout 😂
If only Shuckle could get an evolution that boosted its HP.
Give Shuckle an evo that doubles it's base HP, attack and special attack, and quadruples it's speed, but leaves it's defenses untouched, or just adds 5 points each
Then eviolite shuckle would be WAY too overpowered
@ajgeorge8151 like Terrakion in Gen 9 PU, it'll be a menace for the 3 hours it's allowed
Eviolite:
I think Eviolite Shuckle wouldn't be that crazy, it's still weak to Stealth Rock and can't hold an item in a super offensive hazard-centered meta, it would probably still just be a suicide Sticky Web lead that can't do much else
Rare candies are the standard for pokemon challenge runs of any kind now. Never hesitate to use them!
I was expecting rest, wrap, toxic, and sandstorm
I feel like Bide could have worked against the first gym
"water onix" meme kills me everytime lmao
Power Trick was a high risk/high reward type move that actually can come in handy but ya gotta know the meta to get around with it. Found out in Heart Gold and it was fun. Best Bug Pokémon I have with 600 defense and special defense.
'this is really meant to be a support Pokémon, not your party lead"
Funny you say that, since Shuckle's main role in competitive IS as a lead! Its main niche is setting up sticky web + stealth rocks before either fainting or using final gambit!
I dont know how many different ways I can beg but PLEASE do the surskit run PLEASE
Surskit run on top
So glad the algorithm brought me back to your channel, great run and I'll be watching the new ones!!
I'm so glad u are using rare candies now!!! I remember when the poison challenge was released and it was basically hell on you. Besides the award if saying "i did it without rare candies" is cool and all, but I'd much rather u be able to play cooler more exotic challenges! Its not like we see any of the backend anyway besides some slightly spedup footage
Keep up the great work man!!!
I want to give a HUGE thanks to you MDB! Your content is amazing and helps me throughout the day. I listen to you while searching around the internet. Thanks for helping keeping my mind at peace :)
Funny to hear you talk about playing Bannerlord in the outro as I actively am playing Bannerlord watching your video. Great work as always :)
Ah yes my favourite place in Shinoh, the Rocket hideout
Funny enough, it'd likely be even easier in Gen 4 since Shuckle can use Power Trick which swaps the Defenses with the Attacks.
That makes it faint in one hit from a Pokémon breathing in its general direction though. If you want lots of damage, Grip Claw Wrap is the most solid option.
EDIT: Turns out I remembered wrong, and Grip Claw only extends Wrap to always bind for 5 turns. The item that incresaes its damage i the Binding Band, but that one only appeared in Gen 5...
O rly? You just gave me an idea :3@@Zorothegallade-gg7zg
Over shell bell, I believe gluttony can be used to get attack boosts by Leichi Berry in situations.
Honch doesn't even have Night Shade in that final fight. Just fyi.
mdb upload right when i need something to watch while i do chores!
Having used Shuckle in competitive fairly successfully in the past, it's super satisfying when it works, you just have to rethink how you play pokemon to play it effectively
Rule suggestion, turn on set mode for full team runs.
So glad you did this, Fire Red with only Shuckle was the first video of yours I ever saw!
I REALLY think that those attack EVs you farmed early on helped out here. Awesome run. I may have to try this one out!
Always looking forward to your awesome chalelnges!
Rim world! Finally! I've missed that series so much you have no idea
Ah yes, "The Rocket Hideout" where Team Galactic works.
Love your stuff MDB!
My team for Platinum was Turtwig as starter, a Zubat in the cave on the way to the rock gem, a female Combee, a Gible, and 2 HM Slaves.
Now there's a problem with this lineup, it gets destroyed by Ice. Thankfully Garchomp learns fire moves. But the highlight was soloing the steel gym with Vespiquen, which crit every single attack; only 2 shot was the Bastiodon.
Keep the great work mdb ❤ u should get 500k soon ❤❤❤❤
Fun fact: the pokemon with the record for highest amount of damage done in a single attack is (or was last I checked) a shuckle. Max def swapped to attack on a fifth turn rollout boosted by defense curl. Pretty sweet
I feel like Power Trick (swap your defense stat with your attack stat) would've made a fun if risky strategy in the late game. Shuckle learns it at level 48, dunno why you passed it up.
Man I love breaking through the Unlisted section and chilling a couple days earlier
Too bad you didn’t go for power trick. It would have been fun to see, even though it wouldn’t have worked well against physical attackers.
Good news about gen 5 though! You’ll finally have Shell Smash! An over leveled shuckle with shell smash actually has a decent shot at out-speeding, and can even one shot things on occasion
im surprised you didnt use power trick, wouldve made some of those fights very trivial, it switches ur atk with ur def
Always love a shuckle run. Certainly hope you can figure out the auto-fire at some point.
im so happy that you finally use rare candies. Especially in challenges like this
Dang. I don't think I commented on the last video... which is odd for me. I watched/enjoyed it as always. Ah well; I'm sure you know I do. That said, definitely looking forward to next week's run.
Actually laughed. I'm doing other stuff with this playing in the background and it's "Okay so I got to the ice gym and she sent out Obama snow early"
I was like da faq?......OHHH LOL xD
I’m honestly surprised you didn’t use toxic or power swap strats (I think it’s power swap). Although seeing a shuckle brute force it’s way through Platinum is pretty funny.
Shuckle always makes for interesting moments
I love how you said rocket hideout. Too many gen 1 and 2 challenges lately 😂
MDB: but she didn't use it! [...] her
Male rival's male Roserade: I beg your pardon, sir?
I’m surprised there weren’t any toxic stall strategies in this run.
Anything that makes your grind faster is a good thing
Here early just to say I love your videos! I might different pokemon content than you, but you're still a big inspiration for me!
9:00 ah yes my favorite gen 4 evil team team rocket
Pokemon Platinum, with only priority or multi-shots moves, nothing else, with 3 pokemon of your choice, but less than 450 base stats each.
Super happy you started using rare candies ! That's got to be waaaay easier on you.
It would be cool to see a Zorua only run one day. You could even try adding other party members just to activate Illusion and fool the enemy AI, so that you can beat those fights at a super low level.
the rimworld dlc comes out next month too, on the 11th so it might be a great time to get into it again
I'm super excited for this. I tried it ages ago but hacked in leftovers and there was a trainer just after the first gym that was shockingly difficult (I had to level up to get rest and still only won due to either me or them using stuggle). I can't wait to see whether MDB also struggles or whether I had missed something obvious.
Edit: So I think me using leftovers is what made that fight difficult. I beat the first gym at a lower level, so then had to level for that fight while MDB had to be a high enough level for the gym and so didn't have difficulties with the trainer.
Shuckle is awesome if you have the right moves (like Rest, Rollout, Acupressure[egg move only] and another attacking move).
It's in this generation that Shuckle really gained momentum since the egg move Acupressure allowed it to stall the enemy till it maxed out all of its stats (sharply boosting one of its stats every turn without the ability to fail a boost cause once a stat is maxed it's not rolled for again) or at least the stats you need turn it into a complete beast, combined with the insane power that Rollout provides after hitting a bunch (luckily, accuracy is also boosted by Acupressure so it will never miss once you get an accuracy boost once).
That said, you could've made your life easier by teaching Shuckle Sandstorm, which provides a special defence boost to rock types while it's up, since it removes rain/sun/hail and also chips away at the enemy (unless it's a ground/rock/steel type).
Dorkly should animate this 😂😂
surprised he didnt see rollout and power trick and think that would be a great combo that will make the make the run a breeze
9:00 the Rocket hideout? :p
Suggestion: Cute pokemon only as dictated by amity square. So, has to be DPP. Also, you can't use pokemon that aren't cute, like Chansey, just the cute Happiny. Should be easy since you get a starter and en eeveelution, but it might be fun. Especially if you ban the starters.
I might have to do this myself 😂 I love that idea
That's dum but genius, so it isn't dumb. Just exactly the Pokémon, nothing else. But in that case, MDB should show off his team in the run there 👍
For future referenced
Bug is good against dark
We could've bug bit weavile
Just started watching, but looking at the moveset. I would end up running a stall set with rest, sub, toxic, and dig. That is for everything not immune.
I definitely appreciate the sped up level gain. I definitely feel like that's gotta be nice for you too lmao.
Suggestions for challenge runs: Pokemon Black with Snivy (Grass has bit of a tough matchup in the Gen5 games, so it should provide some rock blocks, but it does get some useful status moves like Leech Seed, Growth & Coil) & Pokemon Blue with Scyther (it learns no STAB move in Gen1 outside of the weak Wing Attack at lvl 50 only in Yellow).
1:36 "only shuckle pokemon in combat" my favorite pokemon type, shuckle!
I thought of a fun run that you might like. There’s two trainers in Pokémon Ruby and Sapphire called Ty and Gabby you should go through the entire game playing with their two Pokémon
He may be Shuckle, but he doesn't chuckle.
Use the speed up feature for exp/dmg from the emulator.
I appreciate the runs you do and would rather you save time on a game that takes forever for the bars to go up/down for no reason. It adds up.
15 sec per 3 min fight doesn’t seem like much but for runs like this you probably had to do a lot of 3+ min fights.
I would like to see a dual typing, no STAB moves run in gen 3. An added diffucilty could be only allowing yourself to use only level up moves so you would have very limited options, and choosing the right party members would be essential.
Yknow, MDB, I’ve only ever done one of these solo Pokémon challenges and I did it with a combo I’m sure was never done. Bunnelby only, alpha sapphire. It is possible! The biggest hurdle is definitely phoebe but it’s 100% doable and I did it myself. Would love to see you touch the later gens with solo runs, especially one so dear to me
I wish I could get the 3ds games working on my pc, I wanna steamroll through USUM with bruxish
Slaking only challenge please! I think that would be super entertaining
Because he has the juice!! That’s awesome!!!
Interesting as ever.
So three possible runs, you might have fun wirh:
Vulpix only in gen 4 platinum or heartgold/soulsilver (in that case a team of vulpix, otherwise it will most likely be impossible).
An Eeveelution run - gen 4 platinum. Use randomizer for first, second is in the city of the ghost gym i think (?) numbers three through seven by breeding. This will be some kind of holiday for you compared to the other hard runs you had!
Thir run idea: can you beat pokemon crystal as elite 4 bruno? I suppose he will be able to brute force his way up to the elite 4. I am not sure about kanto and Red.
On top, could you imagine a kind of sub type challenge run? Rather than as Elite 4 Whoever or Champ Who-cares you try going the route until hit a brick wall and then reworking your moves (as good as possible!). Some of the teams are great, but literally crippled by bad move choices.
I could imagine rechoosing 1 or 2 moves, but keeping the team as it is? (No Pokemon changes, rest of moves need to be the same!)
Maybe you can only rework one move per gym? So eight moves in total?
@MDB still looking for that Yamask run 🎉
You know what would be really cool a surskit run
Autofire fix Desmume 0 9 13 (latest). Config > Hotkey Config, in the bottom left drop down select "Turbo" then map "Turbo A" to whatever you want, eg Trigger.
If you're using an 8bitdo Pro 2 controller, which iirc you may be? There's also hardware options on the controller. Happy to assist further.
You never gave him his best move organ harvest 😂😂😂
There was no in game audio this time. Made it lees enjoyable
Hail plus double team is a disgusting combo😂
I'm genuinely surprised that you won
im shocked you did not use power trick to switch defense with attack in this run, i feel like that by itself could have carried a few of the fights
Ngl it bugged me that you didn’t think to use bide against the rock gym probably would have increased your dmg output and finished the fight before rest possibly
i love your video´s week 2
Thank you for entertaining me again MDB
