True. The elemental punches have a power of 75 (effective 150 when super effective), while strength has a power of 80, 120 with stab. But Ursarings attack is 55 points higher, than its special attack. So the punches are only worth it, if they are quad effective, prior to gen 4.
@@BluePhoenix_exactly! like with quad effective moves it does scale better, like gyardos vs electric moves. but sometimes just doing neutral damage with your better stat can do more than doing super effective with your worse offense stat
While generally true, it is important to remember that the elemental punches against quad weak opponents(like Gyarados and Dragonite) will have 300 base power over Strength's 120, which still probably works better when you consider stats.
Just FYI there does tend to be overlap between generations because the games seem to do version exclusives based on offense and defence. Just so you know, the elemental stones you can find them on route 24/25 on kanto from bills grandpa on Gold/Silver/ and on crystal you even have extra ones with some trainers that calls you
Though you also have to show him certain Pokemon in order to get those stones, and like in his other runs Mah Dry Bread usually avoids having to catch more Pokemon than necessary. Also I think for the Fire Stone you have to show the old man a Vulpix, which you can't get in Gold...
I love these version exclusive run videos so much! I actually started my own in FireRed, which is going quite well and a bit easier than I was expecting with the distribution of decent TM and Move Tutor moves early on.
If you do this run for hoenn, do it in emerald, the version exclusive from Ruby and Sapphire are available in emerald excluding Zangoose and Lunatone. Start the game with one of them, and you can catch the rest.
Here's one that's interesting: a challenge run with only birds. Basically, any Pokemon that's based on a bird is usable. The majority will obviously be flying type, but there's also stuff like the fire/fighting Blaziken or the water/steel Empoleon. Obviously, what you CAN get is based on the game you do.
I look forward to more version exclusive runs! These are fun and chaotic! I would totally love to see you work your way up the generations with these, and then maybe in a few months slam out the other versions
Ursaring at the start of the e4 had the highest attack AND sp. attack. All the more reason to love Teddiursa. True, it had a level lead, but let's just forget that and bask in the greatness of my favorite pokemon's evolution.
Great video. I'm loving the team runs, especially when you keep them roughly the same level. Another interesting idea I've had that could be cool is a "No STAB moves" run. Every Pokemon would be totally different from normal, and you'd have to think a lot about creative move sets that don't rely on their main lineup of attacks. Using Gligar in this run is a perfect example of a Pokemon that has some decent non-STAB options. Though I imagine you'd go for stronger Pokemon.
Honestly, the team runs are an excellent thing to intersperse between the single pokemon challenges as a different balance of constraints, difficulty, variety, and so on
I'm really glad Mah Dry Bread had so much fun with this one. This is a decent balance: keeping things limited and challenging, but still allows for a lot of variety and strategy. Keeps things from being boring. And yeah, too bad about the Fire Stone, but Growlithe still had a decent run. Though don't be in too much of a hurry to do another one. There aren't enough exclusives to make a full team anymore in Ruby/Sapphire, Diamond/Pearl, or Black/White. Those ones will probably be rough going. Anyway, looking forward to Mah Dry Bread joining Team Sky soon!

I, for one, approve of the substitutions for the missing footage. Also, as much as I like Rimworld (especially modded) and as much as I love Pokemon, given some of the things you're allowed to do in Rimworld, I don't think I would like a mod that combines the two.
I knew about the overlap between Red and Gold exclusive, b/c I had Blue and Silver growing up(and LG and SS later on), meaning I was locked out of ever really using Mankey/Primeape in a game till, uhhhh, Sun and Moon (not in Hoenn, Fire Red exclusive, post game DPP, HG exclusive, post game gen 5, safari only in XY and Dex nav for ORAS). ANd Im not even sure I used one in Sun simply cause there was so much new stuff I wanted to use.
For the fire stone issue, if you go on Route 36 and saves Schoolboy Alan's number, he can sometimes gift you a Frie Stone. If you only keep his number registered you increase your chances of getting a Fire Stone. Another method which is easier, is go to Bill's grandpa on the Sea Cottage where Bill used to be in Gen 1 and show him your Growlithe, he'll give you the Fire Stone.
Gligar SLANDER That thing can set up hazards super well and has a great type, basically only fearing ice moves. Not to mention it's super useful with toxic

Let's go! New MDB video! Now this is going to make my evening. Out of curiosity, do you think you could beat black or or black 2 with Pikachu? You have used him in the other regions before and he was left out of the gen 5 games so it would be interesting to see how he fairs.
I have a lot of run ideas. 1- do the inverse or opposite of your poison moves only run. Poison is your favorite type. Instead, use Pokemon and moves of your LEAST favorite type! 2- do a Zangoose and Seviper run. The pokedex says they are Mortal Enemies, coded in their DNA. It would be funny/cool to see bith of them out in a double battle but working together. 3- do a run with the HEAVIEST OR LIGHTEST TEAM POSSIBLE! That sounds fun! 4- Abra in Gen 2. It would be an easy run in case you can't work much that week because it can learn the 3 elemental punches. 5- do a Champions Team but 1st form. Cynthia would be Spiritomb, Feebas, Gible, Togepi, Riolu, and Budew. 6- Feebas run? A newer version of your Magikarp run.
I am a little surprise you used the elemental punches with Ursaring. They are special in this gen so it seems like a bit of drawback not to use Ursaring's super attack.
I'd love to see more version exclusive runs. They tend to give you a good, diverse and quirky team to use and they can work in all generations. As much as Gen 2 is my favourite I think I'd like to see Ruby first to give a better range of Pokemon, though.
Ruby might actually end up being a pretty rough run. Ruby's exclusives are: Seedot (to Lotad), Mawile (to Sableye), Zangoose (to Seviper), and Solrock (to Lunatone). Four 'mons, not especially great (though Shiftry and Zangoose are good), and not a whole lot of options for dealing with Drake or Steven... MDB's got his work cut out for him there. ... Oh, and Groudon, but I don't think MDB would be satisfied with the Wallace and E4 fights being "Groudon spanked them like kids caught stealing cookies", so we can count it out here.
All that trash talk towards Gligar and it goes and beats Lance's Aerodactyl and Dragonite, Blue's Gyarados, and Red's Pikachu.

Pausing to confirm at least one Blue/Silver exclusive, my baby Vulpix~
YES!!!!! I really love this games runs this game was one of my favorites when i was a kid this one and platinum just were my childhood so i get hype everytime you do runs in either game!!!
Hey MDB, I can't speak for your whole audience, but watching you do a Let's Play of the Rimworld Pokemon mod would be really cool!
I, for one, approve of the substitutions for the missing footage.
Also, as much as I like Rimworld (especially modded) and as much as I love Pokemon, given some of the things you're allowed to do in Rimworld, I don't think I would like a mod that combines the two.
I'm so down for more of these team runs, and the rimworld streams sound great.
1:36 - Considering it doesn't exist? Yeah, can't get much worse than not existing in the first place...
I’m a new subscriber but I love watching your videos. I just have to say that ur voice is so smooth and good to fall asleep too. ❤😂
I've played several randomizer nuzlockes and in 2 of them one of my Pokémon ended up evolving into Mantine, glad to see my boy putting in work
Kind of odd in Gen 2 having Ursaring without Return
Yeah, MDB has his own way of playing. A sort-of super imposed challenge mode.
@@mc11213Or he's just bad at remembering things. I'm leaning more towards that.
Just clocked out from work and got this notification. Big W
Hoping this serise continues can’t wait to see the other generations exclusive run throughs 😊
26:47 Tbf he uses pikachu which is absolute trash. Not even evolving to Raichu. If hes the number 1 trainer the rest must be trained monkeys.
Keep up the good content I can only imagine how much of a grind this must be
I knew about the overlap between Red and Gold exclusive, b/c I had Blue and Silver growing up(and LG and SS later on), meaning I was locked out of ever really using Mankey/Primeape in a game till, uhhhh, Sun and Moon (not in Hoenn, Fire Red exclusive, post game DPP, HG exclusive, post game gen 5, safari only in XY and Dex nav for ORAS).
01:27 You replaced Quilava with Growlithe? That Cyndaquil sure did evolve quick, but it’s gone now.
Gligar SLANDER
That thing can set up hazards super well and has a great type, basically only fearing ice moves. Not to mention it's super useful with toxic
@1:53 Did anyone else hear this as, "I'd be crazy Natu"? I feel like there's a bad joke or a weird T-shirt that could be made out of that, but I'm posting too late at night to think it through. Please let me know if any of you think of something using this.
Let's go! New MDB video! Now this is going to make my evening. Out of curiosity, do you think you could beat black or or black 2 with Pikachu? You have used him in the other regions before and he was left out of the gen 5 games so it would be interesting to see how he fairs.
Bear with you (1:17)? I sure hope so, Teddiursa and Ursaring are great!
"Mankey got potential, he just need some experience"
Me who played Scarlet Violet: I'm afraid he needs to die to unleash his whole potential.
Something i find funny is when a youtuber says i may sound weird and say I'm sick and 95% of the time they sound the same lol
That Gligar had some real underdog energy going
MDB have you considered using lucky eggs for when you grind levels?
And it seems like you have joined team sky. (Random eagle cry)
....and I have a team with a gligar on it. I never laughed so hard. I love gligar but that was funny.
Flash MVP of the run what the hell lol
For your next GSC run, evolutionary stones are at the Sea Cottage House, Route 25, Kanto.
