Around 6:30: "I don't know if you can re-roll fossil Pokemon . . ." Indeed you can. The individual values of the Pokemon get determined the moment you receive the Pokemon, in this case, after the revival. So if you save right before reviving it, you can soft reset for a good nature/ability combo you want.
Actually MDB, it's possible to reroll Natures for Fossil Pokemon. Once they tell you to leave after giving the fossil, come back in, save near the reception desk, and then check it each time before resetting for a different nature. Just in case you ever think about doing a Gen 4 Fossil run in the future.
I think the calcs you were doing for Weather Ball come up to 225, rather than 200. It's 100 multiplied by 1.5 for STAB and then again for weather. Those 50% bonuses aren't additive.
@@nyaaguy354 If it's PWR x1.5 x 1.5, you're right. But if it's PWR + 0.5PWR + 0.5PWR, the result won't be the same. In first case, you have 100*1.5*1.5 => 225. In second case, 100+50+50. This is why MDB says the power is 200.
In the case of Beldum in this run, remember that vitamins like Protien and Zinc can get you a sizable head start on EVs without needing battles. Chuck a handful of vitamins on that boy, then pop rare candies. It won't max his EVs but it's a hell of a lot better than just rare candies alone.
Also, it's not really that hard to max out EVs and he also has the choice of Pokémon to grind against to give him the best possible EVs for a Metagross. Even without max EVs Metagross would have been stronger than most, if not all his team
For future reference, Sandstorm is a rock move that has no effect on rock, ground or Steel Pokémon. really, weather ball has effectively 225 base power on a water type in rain, since weather ball doubles in power to 100, and then you get 2 consecutive 1.5× boosts, which, to my knowledge, are multiplicative, meaning it actually works out to a 2.25× boost combined.

Love the videos :) Always a fun time to watch. I also have an idea, what about a 6 team pokemon challenge but each pokemon only knows 1 move. To chose the move, you it can be one of the moves only from their secons typing. Could be fun :)
I'm always a huge fan of the gift pokemon only runs. Having a limited team of Pokémon that don't really synergise is super fun because you have to think outside the box a bit more but it's also slightly easier and in my opinion more fun than solo runs because there's less grinding and brute forcing
MDB you actually can re-roll fossil (and all gift pokemon). If you save just before you talk the npc you either get the gift from or just before you receive the egg. When the pokemon is given (or when the egg is handed to your character) is when the pokemon is set. This means if you get say a modest eevee (but you intend to evolve it into say Leafeon in Gen 4), you can reset to before you received the egg/pokemon. Only downside is wirh eggs because you have to re hatch the egg.
I'm gonna make a suggestion, just for more variety would you consider modding the ROM to give you more "caught" Pokemon to get the stuff behind catch walls? It's more a river save for what could be done with just infinite time and patience
Was just about to come comment this. Especially in FRLG when items are locked behind them too. I don’t see any issue having a complete dex, long as it doesn’t break the run (which I can’t think of any instances where it would)
I feel like a themed run you could try which might be a bit different is a 1% Rarity Challenge ... where you can only use Pokemon whose spawn rate is 1% in the entire game. I would exclude Pokemon who have a pre-evolution which is more common, or any that have a different Rarity elsewhere in the game. Of course, Legendaries are off the table. Shinies would be allowed though due to this being a rarity challenge ... if you are lucky enough to run into one .... minus the Red Gyarados of course. If you were to do this challenge in Gold, this would give you Dunsparce (in Dark Cave prior to the first Gym), Yanma (North of Goldenrod Prior to Gym 3), Subbull (West of Ecruteak prior to Gym 4), and Marill (in Mt. Mortar between Ecruteak and Mahogany Town prior to Gym 4) all before the Elite Four. Chansey is the only one as part of the Post game with a 1% Rarity.
“Can I beat Pokémon Emerald with Steven’s team?” Switch Treecko for Beldum and you’ll only get 1 fossil until the post game at the Desert Underpass. Might be super hard since Beldum only has takedown until it evolves.
Was actually kinda expecting you to pick Torchic instead of Mudkip, but apparently you chose wisely on that front. Also MDBAMA: you mentioned going to make a sandwich at the end, so what's your favorite kind of sandwich?
I bet you could have won that fight @lvl65, definitely possible. But glad you prioritized your time and did the rare candies!!!! Yay!!!! Seriously glad to hear
id love to see a fossil only run where you get to choose a fossil only after defeating 2 gym leaders in fire red. meaning you can have a full team of fossils by the end.
No matter how underleveled it is, there's always a chance for Wobbuffet to get a kill with Destiny Bond when you give it a Quick Claw. In fact, for Juan's Double Team and Rest spamming Kingdra it wouldn't even need the Quick Claw luck, just switch it in while it's asleep and watch the AI take itself out.
15:00 I genuinely understand fundamentally when and why you gave Swampert the earthquake TM in this particular challenge run, but I'm sad that he was almost high enough to learn it naturally (Lv. 52) when you did. In a game where TM's break after one use, I think you wasted your chance to give earthquake somewhere else (like to Beldum > Metang > Metagross, for example)!
You can get both fossils in Emerald by going to the Fossil Maniac house in post game and going through the ditto cave to get the fossil that you didn't choose, it's West of Fallarbor town in the northern part of the route. You can get a full team with starter, Wynaut, fossil 1, Castform, Beldum post, and Fossil 2 post is what I am saying. So if you had any issues, go through the ditto cave to get fossil you didn't choose.
Sandstorm does give a special defense boost to Rock Types that I don't think Ground or Steel get. Ground or Steel just tend to have Abilities that go well with Sandstorm and are immune to the damage.
Wobbuffet was my suprise MVP in a pokemon wonderlock of Pokemon Shield. Love how he can tank a hit and does double the damage back great against Dyanamax Pokemon.
Now it would be interesting to see: "Emerald with only Gift Pokemon in their BASE FORM". I think, that this run would be a little bit more challenging. 😄
Harrington Run. Protagonist trying to get it done but having to cart around a couple of kids. Play pokemon Gold/Silver with your starter and the 2 egg pokemon you get from Elm and Daycare Man.
I have an idea for a potential MBD take on a Nuzlocke challenge. Permadeath isn't very MBD, but instead, the catch could be that once you remove a Pokémon from your team, you can't use it anymore. This way, you still have one random chance of catching a new Pokémon per route, and you must be mindful of team-building resources. Also, this would include any HM usage. It might need another tweak to fit your schedule, but it could be a nifty idea.
I think I suggested this before but it’s been a couple… years… so here it is again! Do a run with only the Pokémon used to COMPLETE trades (not the trade Pokémon themselves.)
I know it's a bit late, but you could've gotten the second fossil for Armaldo, after you beat the champion, if you go to the house where you got the dig TM, a new cave appears, and if go all the way to the bottom of it you can find the second fossil.
depending on how things stack or whatever? weather ball 50 base+ 50 for being in a weather(100) + 50% stab(150) +50% weather boost (sun/rain) (225?) which is insane even with its mid stats
I think that for runs like this you should use rare candies to get new pokemon up to a reasonable level for the point you're at so you have more opportunities to use them making the run more fun since you can use the whole team more
I watched a video about the super strong Machop in Dewford Town. It turns out that was due to an error since things like EVS are supposed to be randomized.

I also have an idea, what about a 6 team pokemon challenge but each pokemon only knows 1 move. To chose the move, you it can be one of the moves only from their secons typing. Could be fun :)
Mudkip starter is just not a challenge 🤣
No matter! Great job!
I'm so glad to see emerald runs, tons of pokemon channels say this is the hardest game for pokemon challenge runs. It's my fav GBA pokemon game!!!!!
Huh you have intrigued the king of the mudkips with that thumbnail also what fossil did you take
Swampert showcasing why he is a top tier pokemon 😂 love to see it
10:00 when mdb is talking about wynaut, he keeps saying "him" when it has a ♀
I'm gonna make a suggestion, just for more variety would you consider modding the ROM to give you more "caught" Pokemon to get the stuff behind catch walls? It's more a river save for what could be done with just infinite time and patience
Was just about to come comment this. Especially in FRLG when items are locked behind them too. I don’t see any issue having a complete dex, long as it doesn’t break the run (which I can’t think of any instances where it would)
I always love when Wobbuffet gets some recognition.
The absolute meltdown at not knowing what type sandstorm is was priceless 😂😂😂😂😂😂
You pronounced lileep perfectly 👍
“Can I beat Pokémon Emerald with Steven’s team?”
Switch Treecko for Beldum and you’ll only get 1 fossil until the post game at the Desert Underpass.
Might be super hard since Beldum only has takedown until it evolves.
This is the perfect video to end the holiday season.
8:19 it’s a rock type move but it doesn’t hurt ground or steel type Pokémon
Was actually kinda expecting you to pick Torchic instead of Mudkip, but apparently you chose wisely on that front.
Also MDBAMA: you mentioned going to make a sandwich at the end, so what's your favorite kind of sandwich?
0:27 Even if you tried, Chimeco is actually unobtainable in Emerald so you literally can't complete the Hoenn Dex.
I bet you could have won that fight @lvl65, definitely possible. But glad you prioritized your time and did the rare candies!!!! Yay!!!! Seriously glad to hear
I think it would be fun to use a team of pokemon using only their signature moves (or signature to their evolution lines)
If I did the math right weather ball in sun and rain it's actually 225 and not 200 so a bit better than you thought
id love to see a fossil only run where you get to choose a fossil only after defeating 2 gym leaders in fire red. meaning you can have a full team of fossils by the end.
I'm glad Wobbuffet did something useful in the run!
Finally!!! You’re back!!
Platinum but you can only use your starter or pokemon you have beaten during a gym trainer fight
"Goes up well after Christmas", wellllll, depends on if you're on the old calendar or not 👀
15:00
I genuinely understand fundamentally when and why you gave Swampert the earthquake TM in this particular challenge run, but I'm sad that he was almost high enough to learn it naturally (Lv. 52) when you did. In a game where TM's break after one use, I think you wasted your chance to give earthquake somewhere else (like to Beldum > Metang > Metagross, for example)!
Sandstorm is weird, the move itself is Ground, but it buffs the Defense of Rock. It is also the only weather that does nothing to Castform.
Ah, Lileep. A fossil Pokemon in the shape of a spider in a goblet.
Love that it took such a turn. Go gift team!
Was there a reason this wasn’t premiered live?
You can get both fossils in Emerald by going to the Fossil Maniac house in post game and going through the ditto cave to get the fossil that you didn't choose, it's West of Fallarbor town in the northern part of the route. You can get a full team with starter, Wynaut, fossil 1, Castform, Beldum post, and Fossil 2 post is what I am saying. So if you had any issues, go through the ditto cave to get fossil you didn't choose.
Don't feel bad. Sandstorm is the only thing in the series with sand in its name that isn't ground.
Thank you for your service once again a great one.
I paused cooking when the sandstorm question came up because i forgot all my knowledge at that moment
6:54
I'm glad that we all share a father
Spoilers for the video:
Damn I can’t believe he picked the Old Amber! What A Twist!
But how will the early release of this video affect Authors of Pain’s return to SmackDown?
They're going to have to postpone so that I don't steal their thunder
Harrington Run.
Protagonist trying to get it done but having to cart around a couple of kids.
Play pokemon Gold/Silver with your starter and the 2 egg pokemon you get from Elm and Daycare Man.
What fossil did you take?
With all the money you gather, you could buy a bunch of proteins and feed them to Beldum for EVs
In Gen IX, Hail was changed to Snowscape and increases Defense for Ice-types. 😀
I’d like to see you try an Emerald Kaizo run. Maybe all the same rules, but you can build your own team. Would be fun to see you try
Love seeing team runs!
4:45 the "why not" egg
I have an idea for a potential MBD take on a Nuzlocke challenge. Permadeath isn't very MBD, but instead, the catch could be that once you remove a Pokémon from your team, you can't use it anymore. This way, you still have one random chance of catching a new Pokémon per route, and you must be mindful of team-building resources. Also, this would include any HM usage. It might need another tweak to fit your schedule, but it could be a nifty idea.
I don't know what MBD thinks, but MDB isn't into nuzlockes
I like permadeath, just not in Pokemon
I think I suggested this before but it’s been a couple… years… so here it is again! Do a run with only the Pokémon used to COMPLETE trades (not the trade Pokémon themselves.)
I realize this doesn’t make for a very catchy video title so maybe call them “pre-trade” Pokémon 😅
Have you tried gen 3 with non evolving pkmn?
I think that for runs like this you should use rare candies to get new pokemon up to a reasonable level for the point you're at so you have more opportunities to use them making the run more fun since you can use the whole team more
To be fair, sandstorm doesn't do chip damage to Ground, Rock, or Steel @8:48
Sadly no special defense boost in Gen 3
I watched a video about the super strong Machop in Dewford Town. It turns out that was due to an error since things like EVS are supposed to be randomized.
You looking up stuff mid script had me dying 😂
Bro, Mahdry, you really do make these night shifts a tad easier. I'll be binging KQ5 and 6 with you again. Lol. Love your content, brother.
